Opposition leader, Lennox Linton has accepted an invitation to debate prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit.
Linton announced on Wednesday that he is ready and willing to respond to the challenge thrown out by Skerrit during the launch of his party’s candidate for Morne Jaune/Riviere Cyrique recently.
Skerrit told his supporters, “Challenge them [the United Workers Party] to tackle Labour on the issues. Challenge them to come debate their vision for this country with us.”
The opposition leader has proposed June 2nd as the date for the debate.
“We have invited the prime minister to debate for a long time and he has never responded,” Linton told Q95’s Matt Peltier,” This time as I understand it, it was at Grand Fond he indicated a willingness or a readiness for debate. What I’m doing is facilitating the process by indicating our willingness and our readiness…You can’t just let this thing be stuck in the statement that was made in Grand fond on Sunday.”
Linton went on to say, “If he’s serious, we would like to move forward and we’re suggesting 2nd of June 5:00 0’clock in the afternoon at the national stadium, for the grand national debate of all the issues. He says he wants the opposition to take him on and take his party on on the issues and we’re ready to do that.”
