Opposition leader, Lennox Linton, has accused Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of lying when the prime minister said at a press conference last week, that Linton refused to do anything about a government offer of petrocasas (houses provided to Dominica by Venezuela) for the people of Marigot.
Skerrit was at the time responding to a question about a motion of no confidence against him to be tabled by Linton in Parliament on October 19, on allegations that he has mismanaged the economy.
The Prime Minister laughed at the motion saying it is a joke and he cannot be distracted by what he called “lazy men.”
“This is a gentleman who I offer last year, 15 petrocasas – 15, three-bedroom petrocasa with two washrooms, for the citizens of Marigot – and he has not moved one finger to take advantage of this 15 petrocasas in the initial instance,” he said.
However, in an interview on Monday morning with the host of Q5’s Hot Seat, Matt Peltier, Linton fiercely denied receiving any houses from the prime minister and accused Skerrit of lying “over and over and over again.”
“The prime minister of Dominica must present to the people of Dominica, the evidence of him offering Lennox Linton 15 petrocasas. I would assume that would include some sort of disclosure as to the arrangement under which these houses were being offered, when would they be offered, when would they be available, when were they going to be in Dominica etc, etc” the opposition leader stated.
Linton said there is nothing standing in the way of the prime minister putting “petrocasa” houses in Marigot if he wants and pointed out that the only input that he believes would be required from him are suggestions as to where there is need for such houses in the constituency which would be verified by the Welfare Department or the Ministry of Social Services and Gender Services.
“But the notion that the prime minister offered me, almost like it’s from Roosevelt Skerrit to Lennox Linton…How did he do it – did he make a phone call, did he send me a WhatsApp message? What happened – was it an email, was it mail that he sent to me through the post office, or was it delivered to my house, to my office? What exactly transpired, how was this offer made? I do not know anything about it,” Linton stated. “So here you have a man concocting a story, concocting a story to score political points,” he said.
Regarding a cheque of $30,000.00 which the prime minister claims to have given to the Marigot Village Council, Linton explained that sometime ago, it was disclosed at a meeting of the Marigot Village Council at which he was present that the money which Mr. Skerrit is talking about came to the Council by way of two of Mr. Skerrit’s “operatives” in the form of a cheque from a business company in Dominica.
“The cheque was not from the government; the cheque came from the business company in Dominica with no covering letter as to what the business company was sending the money to the Credit Union for,” he said. “I’m advised that the Credit Union subsequently wrote to the company, asking them about the money that was sent to them on a cheque from the company and to this day, there has been no response.”
A member of the Marigot Village Council, Brian Linton, subsequently called the Hot Seat to corroborate the information given by Mr. Linton.
I dont believe Skerrit because the Skerrit operation does not work thst way. if there were real houses for Marigot Labor Party operatives would be given task to distribute the Petroicasas to Labor Party supporters in Marigot.

This Skeritt guy, never ceases to amaze me. When ever Skeritt makes a fool of himself, I always remember Mr. Brisbane’s diagnosis of him. According to Mr. Brisbane, he suffers from a malady called Hubris. Check Brisbane or Blessings, they will tell you what it is to be suffering from Hubris. Is he trying to convince us that it had to take a motion of no convenience for the people of Marigot to know about the gifts of houses and money. He complained, Mr. Linton does no work, he is lazy, but he passes through Marigot several times a month or a years why has he never gone to the Marigot Village Council office in order to make some kind of enquire. His Government has a care taker in Marigot, why did he not contact the representative, before he went on facebook with his lies, but again, according to Mr. Linton, he doesn’t like Marigot people. Tie your waist people, as long as Mr. Linton is your parliamentary representative you will always suck salt.
Even if the PM is not lying, his alleged offer to Linton was unauthorized and unprofessional as it cannot be right for him to offer government resources to Linton in his personal capacity. These “I” statements that he makes are unusual for a government official unless he wants people to think that they are about under-the-table matters.
Any official offer he made to Linton for public resources should have been well documented and copied to other appropriate officials. Without that transparency, its leaves the door wide open for people to speculate and question whether the offer was indeed made. The PM should avoid putting himself in a position where people have to question his honesty.
Why would he offer Linton houses when it is roads Linton has been making a priority? while it is the people from Petite Savanne and Coulibistrie who are in dire need of houses at this time? The whole situation is very embarrassing for Dominica. Some clarification from the PM would be nice.
The accounts from Skerrit and Linton are diametrically opposed so clearly one is untrue.. To avoid this back and forth why can the media not fact check to ascertain what is true in the public interest?? I am inclined to believe Lennox Linton because Skerrit has developed this propensity to avoid the truth and accepted ethical and moral principles
Why is the company that allegedly sent check to the Credit Union not named.??. Proper reporting requires names to be identified..Referring to a company without stating name is not enough..We seem to withhold names of persons as well as organisations.. Why is that??

I cannot help but recall when the Government was going to renovate the Marigot Health Centre; there was a candlelight demonstration and roads block with fig all over the place.
Just imagine Government were to build the houses without as the MP says his knowledge as some have suggested; we would hear something else and maybe see no work starting instead we could see blockage saying no new houses built here.

It seems strange and unusual that the PM would withhold the houses from Marigot citizens because, as he claims, Linton has not responded to or accepted his offer of the houses.
