Dedicated to the world of pageantry and a passionate connoisseur of culture, Mrs. Veronica Nicholas, popularly known as ‘Ma Boyd,’ has proudly clinched the prestigious title of Madam of Madams for the year 2023.
A native of Roseau, Ma Boyd’s exceptional performance captured the hearts of the judges, as she outshone three other talented competitors during the event held last evening at the Old Mill Cultural Centre.
This unique event showcased the talents of four distinguished past Madam Wob Dwiyet titleholders from Dominica. Theresa Anthony, the Madam Wob Dwiyet of 2016 from Trafalgar, was honored with the Best Talent award. Veronica Nicholas, the Madam Wob Dwiyet in 2013, received the Best Creole Contemporary Wear award, while Gweneth Lazare, the 2014 titleholder from Grand Fond, was acclaimed as the Best in Wob Dwiyet.
The Alliance Française People’s Choice Award was bestowed upon Dorothy Laurent, the 2019 Madam Wob Dwiyet representing the Petite Soufriere community.
After a closely contested competition, the final results were revealed, with Laurent placing 3rd runner-up, Lazare, 2nd runner-up, Anthony 1st runner-up, and Nicholas emerging as the winner.
In a post-show interview with the media, the newly crowned Madam of Madams spoke of her passion for pageantry and her unwavering dedication to cultural pursuits. She also left the door open to the possibility of participating in future competitions, further contributing to the vibrant world of pageantry and cultural heritage.
