Martin heads new anti-government group

Martin

A new group has been formed with the aim of combating what it say are the corrupt practices of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and his administration

Headed by Artherton Martin the group is presently in process of devising various actions to remove what they claim are “threats to their democracy.”

They gathered Harlem Plaza yesterday evening to begin strategizing how they will fulfill their task.

Many persons in the group shared the view that Dominica is heading into dictatorship under the Roosevelt Skerrit regime and something needs to be done to stop it.

“I have been asked by the citizen’s forum, which is a small group of us, to invite whoever was willing to accept the invitation and address three points,” he said.

According to Martin the ‘three points’ are, 1. Could you say what you see as the main threat? 2. Could you say at the same time what you see can be done and what needs to be done about it and 3. Could you say what you are prepared to be a part of or to do something about it.

“It is an affair that will continue until we get sufficient people who are willing to stand up and do something about what they think needs to be done,” he stressed.  “If we sit and wait for multitudes we will do nothing,”

Among the many suggestions made were opposition parties and groups need to come together to lodge protests and demonstrations against the government and to seek legal counsel so that demonstrations are held within the law.

It was also noted that finance had to be sought to fund oppositions’ initiatives in order for them to be successful and that there was a lack of motivation and political awareness among the public particularly the youth.

A public manifestation and community outreach task force were formed to perform certain duties within the next seven days until the next weekly meeting.

Same old story different version. Much ado about nothing on the political stage. Many think that politics is about which political donkey brays the longest and the loudest, but in the political arena a jackass will always remain a jackass whereas an astute political will always remain an astute politician, because a jackass place is in the stable on the animal farm and not in government.

It appears to be one person changing names writing a bunch of stupidness here……whatever you getting from Skerrit enjoy it while it last, but you ignorant, low life characters are not going to drive this country to be another Lybia or Egypt.

You think there are no elections in these dictatorships, yes they are, but the elections are conducted the exact same way ours are…..with many corrupt practices.

Now when all you done using different aliases here to slander Athie, go and register in all 21 constituencies the number of times all you think it necessary to ensure Labour wins again.

While you people continue to bury Dominica deeper and deeper into this bottomless pit, I am organizing to remove myself and my family from Dominica…..if it good all you will enjoy….if it bad all you will endure….enough is enough!

Fellas and ladies, give Affie a small break Affie hasn’t got the wherewithall to do nada by himself. He cannot even make hem in his pants. Affie is fronting for those few professionals and businessmen who have not got the cohones to come out publicly and say how much they hate the Labour Party and are jealous of Skerritt, lest the majority of Dominicans, well pleased with the progress of Dominica under the present regime, stop patronising their businesses. But they will be known soon enough; because their children are echoing that same hatefilled dialogue to their school and college friends.

Thanks Athie for taking a stand for the future of Dominica. The young people will be worst off than their grand parents. Throughout history, Dominicans have been able to earn their livelihood. Today in his effort to control the lives of the people, Skerit have destroy the ability of the people to work for a living. He has introduced a culture of begging to the people in order to control their lives. Please help the people to wake up.

How do we ever take these guys seriously? Athie has been around the block so many times, he is like a re-tread tire. He is educated, has a hotel/guest house, but what else is doing for this country? They want to remove Skerro, and “replace” him with what/whom may I ask? The Dcan electorate is more than capable of doing the right thing….
These guys must stop the fear-mongering and be more positive. Up to now I waiting to see who should take a jail for all the irreponsible information or mis-information that was on the other radio station before the election. :Venezuelan warships on the horizon, Venezuelan soldiers in the bush around Melville Hall, trailer load of arms from Venezuela sent to Castle Bruce…this was very worrisome for many Dcans and created an atmosphere of anguish and anxiety…no populace should be subjected to this kind of verbal assault, just because you want power. This should be seen as sedition and the persons responsible be held accountable.

Mr Martin, I do not think you have been listening to the Dominican people. The people are fed up with statements such as ‘their democracy is under threat.’

I ask myself, why is it that these ‘experienced,’ educated, grown men have absolutely no insight into the people’s needs? There are too many disgruntled people taking up ‘opposition roles.’

Our people need fresh perspectives to tackle concrete problems in the society, so that as an opposition leader or participant when you open your mouth, the people feel that their plight is understood.

Politics is a social science, thus, it must be approached with logic, professionalism and spiritual insight.

    1. What I see as a main threat is you Artherton Martin and other ignorant Dominicans giving unfounded negative press to Dominica all in an effort for personal gain.
    2. What I see can be done? You Artherton Martin and opposition can diligently do your homework and learn and understand the role of being in opposition. It is ridiculous to challenge DLP on their accomplishments and future projects! What needs to be done? You Artherton Martin and DLP opposition need to put an immediate halt to all this negativity. Be more creative in offering a more viable alternative to Dominica development. In other words go back to the drawing board!
    3. What I am willing to be a part of or to do something about it? I am hoping that you Artherton Martin and DLP opposition read this positing and understand clearly that we do not need person with their own agendas to give Dominica bad press rather we need persons who are creative and can make valuable contributions to its Development. The challenge is on for all Dominicans to move the country forward in all respects.

Not only the pompous who only wants things in their way… If we had to listen to some of you, Dominica would really be stuck with houses on stllts .. no enlarged roads .. and I can go on and on but this forum is not for this!

Mr Martin with all due respect to you. I think you need to head some other organisation at this crucial ttime of our development. You can lecture the young people in some of your field .. to educate them and guide them in your field area of study. Give your voluntary service for good report and good for the country and your works will be seen although I know that now many persons call good – evil and evil good. I would like to see you in a more loving role to your people whom you profess to love so much. We need to demonstrate our love of them in the manner that is pleasing to “Almighty Father” . His good books guides us on how to be humble and to go out there to snatch the lost ones ( Our youths are dying spirtually, emotionally, mentally) We need to do those things without recompense… It will come from above … Sometimes we do want to be always seen and heard… but do it according to our Father’s plan. The 60 ers and 70 ers should step aside and act as mentors and advisers …. Let go of our laurels and encourage the young coming up ones! LOL

u people want to complain about everything.
i have no preference cause almost all politician are the same… they all look after number 1 (THEMSELVES).
however, the labour party may not be fabulous but they are really trying to help the dominican economy using the little resources that is available. they are slowing reducing the gross domestic debt of dominica as well as trying to improve the dominica’s infrastructure.
can more be done… hell yes
the question that should be asked is ‘ are the needed resources available to do more? and are the funds being correctly allocated?’

I THINK THAT THE YOUNG EDUCATED PEOPLE OF DOMINICA SHOULD FORM A POLITICAL PARTY. THESE OLD FOLKS ARE STUCK IN THEIR WAY AND CAN’T IMPROVE DOMINICA AND MOVE IT INTO THE 21ST CENTURY – ALL THEY PROMISE ARE LIES.. THEY’VE BEEN THERE AND DONE NOTHING.

Guys like Athie haven’t got a shred of democracy in their bones. what ever happened to the Alliance of Communist thinkers? I am not a fan of the DLP because as a Govt. I believe that there are things that they can do differently. However, one may not agree with what a leader does but has all the right to question and disagree with that leader in a democracy. The action of Atherton Marti and his associates demonstrates that democracy in alive in Dominica.

These people are now under the disguise of democracy, threatening the existence of democracy in Dominica by their selfish and reckless behaviors. The majority of Dominicans voted the Govt. into power but according to Marti we cannot wait for the majority to speak. Isn’t that dictatorship? They must take to the street and remove the Govt. by whatever means necessary. A serious threat to the existence of democracy in Dominica that according to them they seek to protect.

I would take it to mean that this Anti Govt. movement also has no regard for the Judicial System, as they seek to have the PM removed from office by what ever means necessary. They can’t wait for the court decission. What if the court rules in favor of the PM? This is clear-cut dictatorship!

People, crime have become a major problem in DA as well as the many developing countries around the world. The melt down of the world’s economic powers have left us fighting to stay afloat and a lot of our young people out of jobs. If this movement was interested in DA as they professed, why aren’t they organizing forums as to the way forward in tackling crime, antisocial behavior and various ways to assist our people in getting jobs or creating jobs for ourselves. I am hearing nothing from them positively as to the way forward for DA. All I am hearing is; “This isn’t the correct way.”

These people are a serious threat to democracy in DA as they seek to create chaos, panic and fear among our people. They want us to take the street, behave in an uncivil manner and create civil unrest. This they hope will destabilize the country and ultimately the Govt.. Let us all say NO to all who threatens the existence of our democracy and our peaceful country as we say no to drugs.

The Government cannot do all the things so choose a project and start not with your mouth but with action.. I am watching to join you… I am already doing mine .. Apart from being the best steel band player in Dominica,(that is the truth), and one of the best orators Dominica has, what can we identify that have the standard, the ensigna of Athie on it? Of all the campaigns he has led, what has become of them? of all the organizations he has led, what has becoem of them after the intital project funding has been exhausted? How many things have Athie promised, the results of which has been left to the imagination? How many projects have he undertaken only to die a natural death? How is his personal investment doing? . What has he done to fight the pain? When he had the opportunity to serve in government (two occasions) what is his record of achievement? The first time, he resigned. It is arguable whetherhe was fired by O.J. Seraphine or he resigned. In the second instance in government, there is no second guessing the outcome when he chose the welfare of whales over people and walked out of the government at the time when he headed the Ministry of Agriculture and Economic Planning. What is his record since leaving government? That is what the Dominican people must ask of Athie before he can be heard this time with a retrofit assemblage of whos who in opposition to Skerrit. Even Spaggs has doen better than him. Spaggs was elected twice in a year. Athie tried the polls once and has since chickened out on every occasion preferring to hide behind different party machineries to push his ideas.

Will the UWP and what exists of a once mighty DFP simply fold up and go with Athie? Time will tell. I suspect Eddy will have a lot to say about Athie’s new grouping.

Say what you want about Athie, but don’t call him an opportunist.
He was with the UWP in opposition, after it became the government he quickly turn against them and joint the DLP
He was campaign manager for the 2000 election. Labor made him senator and was responsible for agriculture. Again within a year Mr Martin tendered his resignation.
So give Jack his jacket, he is not a P.I.P. fan (party in power)

So set me straight here. Exactly what is his goal then, since he obviously cannot or chooses not to work with any of the ruling governments? Maybe he Is an over-zealous, power hungry individual who never achieved as much as he had hoped for in any of the previous parties which he was associated with and subsequently is now trying to set up his own party in an attempt to achieve his dream.

Recycled gabbage in gabbage out some of those guys are only being heard when they feel that there`s an opportunity to help their cause at other people`s expense therefor they lack credibility and people are not stupid in our present day where every body is a reporter or making news very easy to obtain all over the world. It`s one thing to oppose the Goverment and dislike certain actions implemented by the Government in power but if those guys are serious about changing things for the benifit of all Dominican they should come out with concreate alternatives and ways and means to execute their plans and be clear of their vision going forward, sadly, all we are seeing and hearing from some of these guys is critizing the Government at all cost when it is clear that some of the tangible improvements and developments are there for all to see and enjoy. We are having too much talk and while some times it is warranted but talk without actions makes them appear silly to say the least. That`s why the present Government laugh at them. Advise to all concern there`s always room for improvement but give credit where credit is due i am sick and tired of the same old thing day after day. PS. I am not for blue, red, green yellow or whatever party colour is out there. I am for the development of Dominica for all Dominicans. What is so difficult to understand?? Now bring it on I will just read and enjoy do not expect me to respond Good or bad ,For or against. Thank you!!

  51. PRAY FOR DOMINICA
    March 18, 2011

Country first, forget about party politics cause that is Nonesense. Infact I don’t care about DLP, UWP, DFP. I am a Dominican, I hold Dominican Citizenship though I reside abroad for almost a decade. I refuse to accept foreign citizenship however, my last visit to Dominia in March 2011 has left me disturbed. 13.00 for a gallon of gas, food prices are incredible, duties ridiculous and impractical but last but not least a bunch of clueless individuals who are just brainwashed. No one cares about PM being young or old, rich or poor…black or white I don’t care and shouldn’t care but when you have a country 290 sq miles, 69000 people and in the state it is in its a bloody shame. I left Dominica in 2001 and came back 2011 to find it worst than I left it is just insane.. unbelievable.
    Banana industry is DEAD
    Cruise ship based tourism …………UNSUSTAINABLE
    Infrastructure…………….beyond repair
    Employment…..disgrace.

To the person saying give up citizenship to come back Dominica? Are you out your mind? I don’t have foreign citizenship but couldn’t imagine making a living working for crap pay and dealing with the kind of Dictatorship rule where police serve as security detail and doing dirty work for politicians.. Hundreds of Political appointments.

The list goes on, it will never change too many uneducated misinformed and misled individuals in Dominica. Just damn sad and its the story all over the world. Every dictator has supporters.

    Castro
    Chavez
    Ghadaffi
    etc

They have loyalist and these people spread propaganda just to further their agendas. UWP has failed Dominica because they’re not providing the caliber of oppositional respresentation the people of Dominica need. DFP has failed DOminica as well so too has DLP because it consist of other members who sit by and allow things to happen knowingly. Rule by example people….put country first… Leaders bring people together not tear them apart!!! A bunch of UNEDUCATED political leaders robbing the country

It is sad to see that you quantify your country’s development only in finacial terms. There’s a say that money is the root of all evil, not so, but the love of money is the root of evil.
If a people’s moral attitude is not developed no amount of infrastructure development will make it better.
You should learn from the many examples around the world where the concerns of dictatorship was ignored.
Ofcourse I agree that the youth need work and the country needs development, but the dangers that the country faces cannot be ignored and I commend these brave people who are willing to put themselves up against the ridicule and dirty mouth of those who serve themselves.
Take the new state Malice, what forsight of the person who first coined the fraze, for that is exactly what it will be, the clue is in the institutions to be house in that building, all of the necesssary institutions that protect our domocracy under one roof, easy to control.

      • The Concerned One

Now, Democracy is live and well in Dominica and dictatorship has no place here. I do not believe that we are under threat of any dictatorship. These are just political nonsense, aimed at creating chaos and putting people in fear.

I do not and will not refer to these men as being brave but cowards. There are a whole lot of problems in DA and they are doing nothing to address them. I mean anti social behaviors, crime, unemployment etc. I believe these men are a threat to the very democracy that they profess to protect.

As for the State House issue, it’s a matter of opinion. You either agree with it or don’t. I don’t agree we should build a State House at this time. However, this is democracy and the majority of Dominicans agree to have it build. The people have spoken so let it be. Dictatorship has no place in DA.

A new state of the art hospital to be built soon. A 50 room hotel in portsmouth plus the chinese going to invest in a hotel to market a new type of tourist. Don’t that create short term employment to jump start the economy.Rome was not built in a day. What happen to you all guys? Are you all after something?

“Among the many suggestions made were opposition parties and groups need to come together to lodge protests and demonstrations against the government.”

Questions continue to trouble me about the behavior of the Government, who, rather than be humbled by the overwhelming trust (18-3) given to them by the voting public, act as if it is accountable to no one.

And yet, opposition groups and parties fail to educate and energize their base well enough in giving sensible counter to government’s tilting towards one-party rule.

Quite alarming, though, is collective opposition’s pursuit of “finance [by any means necessary?] … to fund opposition’s initiatives.” If this does work – that is, finance – will the opposition resort to inviting in foreign mercenaries to do the job?

We worry about government’s high-handed tactics to date. But we believe so much in the peoples’ right to choose who will govern their affairs that we again call on the opposition to develop a clear, holistic and comprehensive economic action plan. Take the message around the country and convince the voters why they should choose theirs over the Dominica Labor Party’s.

Riotous demonstrations will not improve the opposition’s cause, no matter under what guise they are proposed.

If these ‘intellectuals’ care so much about D/a, why not come together and form a group to use their education, experience and intellect to brainstorm ways to tackle Dominica’s economic and social problems? And then publicly present these ideas to gov’t?

Try that again, hmph. Convince us that tourists see the running of the country as shameful. And pray tell us how that amounts to a declaration by the UWP et al to topple a duly elected government by any means.

They’ve declare their hands in this statement. There is nothing speculative about their declaration declaration. As the Mighty Sparrow would say, “Even a blind man could see.”

      Here! Here! to hmph!
If they are so bright, these intellectuals should not even need Government to think up of good projects, find the funds to execute them, and to make them work. Lord, they are the ones who make it look as if Government is the be all and end all of everything in the world. When they give Government that station, then Government must play big and make mistakes, because they are not God.
The citizens have to but their backs to the wheel to. When Government see them doing something worthwhile for Dominica, see if Government would not have to listen to them and pay them their deserved respect. But if they act like boys embroiled in playing the latest game, then they are treated accordingly.

I am not saying that Skerrit has to stay forever, but he should only have to go when the people vote in accordance with our Constitution, not because there are some bad minded people who find it is their life’s ambition to shoukonay kaka and create a stink.

You accuse the opposition of singing the same tune, but what are you doing? would’nt it be better of you to debate their argument rather than just repeating the same old propaganda about development, all it does is betray your lack of understanding about development.

Is this then an open admittance by Mr. Martin and Co. that the current opposition is null and void and woefully ineffective?

One advise to you guys: try to gain public support and confidence through well thought of alternative plans and be HONEST. Give credence to the government when they deserve it and mabye then people will begin to take you guys seriously.

You must stop all the useless rhetoric and stop believing that yopu can get in by creating trouble and trough demonstrations. IN TODAY’S DOMINICA, THIS JUST WON’T WORK!!! Speak of bread and butter issues and creating employment. Talking about employment, Mr. Martin can begin to prove his seriousness by bringing to fruition the bulk water contract that he has been walking around with in his pocket for some time now!! NOW THAT WOULD CERTAINLY PROVE THAT ATHIE IS MORE THAN JUST TALK!!!!!!!!

Your message betrays your true ambition, you don’t care where the money comes from, as long as you get it.

If athie loved his country he would have stayed to develop the agri sector when he was given a chance. He could not do it he ran away and started to make noise about a wall (see the results today). If athie REALLY love his country he would seek the funds to create jobs instead. If athie REALLY REALLY love his country he would have begun to employ hundreds with the water export program he was given long ago. Now if Athie REALLY< REALLY>>>>UP. BUT AGAIN that is Athie for you A MIGHTY ORATOR WITH NO TESTICULAR FORTITUDE>

Hugo get a life …. do something for your country.. Remember my advice to you just yesterday! Get into some positive movement and do something for this “lovely nature isle” Does he and you really love your country??? Then show it by some “action” not ‘mouth talk (hatred at that)”. Do some ‘Love of Country’ talk show.

Disgrunted when one does not get something for their personal use not benefit the ‘masses’ .
