Mas Domnik 2024: a resounding success Dominica’s carnival ends on a high note

Hon Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite

Dominica’s Carnival, Mas Domnik 2024, concluded with overwhelming success and vibrant celebrations that encapsulated the spirit of the island’s unique culture. The event saw approximately four thousand six hundred thirty-five (4635) visitors, marking a 12% increase from the previous year and generating substantial economic benefits for the island.

“Mas Domnik 2024 has exceeded our expectations in terms of participation, organization, and overall impact. This year, we witnessed a significant surge in visitor numbers, with the total attendance reaching four thousand six hundred thirty-five (4635)—a 12% increase compared to 2023. The majority of these visitors, amounting to 58% or 2679, arrived by ferry, while the remaining 42% or 1956 traveled by air,” stated Honourable Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite, Acting Minister of Tourism. Additionally, we introduced two new elements to our celebration – the stadium field crossing as part of the opening parade, and the online voting for the People’s Choice Top Contemporary Costume Band Award. Both additions were proven successful, and we look forward to enhancing them further next year.

“The Government of Dominica has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to Mas Domnik 2024, the Real Mas, having invested 1 million dollars towards the event. Our government’s involvement in Mas Domnik 2024 showcases our dedication to preserving and promoting Dominica’s cultural heritage and boosting the local economy,” said Honourable Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite, Acting Minister of Tourism.

Mas Domnik 2024 was a colorful spectacle of tradition and creativity. This year, the carnival experience kicked off with the opening parade, which had a new feature: the stadium field crossing. This addition brought an extra layer of excitement to the festivities. The opening parade was followed by numerous village carnivals, captivating competitions, and exciting events and culminated in grand street parades and jump-ups filled with revelers adorned in radiant costumes and color. The pulsating rhythms of bouyon music and calypso, the heart of Dominica’s carnival, reverberated throughout the festivities, setting the tone for a truly Dominican experience.

Another new addition to this year’s Carnival was the People’s Choice Award for Top Contemporary Costume Band. This innovative category allowed the voice of the people to be heard, adding a democratic dimension to the celebrations. It celebrated the innovative spirit and creative flair of modern costume design with enthusiasts.

Discover Dominica Authority extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of Mas Domnik 2024 – the tireless organizers, the talented performers, the generous sponsors, and, most importantly, the enthusiastic carnival-goers and event enthusiasts who brought all the events to life with their energy and passion.

Looking ahead, preparations are underway for Mas Domnik 2025, slated for March 3rd and 4th, 2025. Discover Dominica Authority aims to build on the success of this year’s carnival experience and continue to showcase Dominica’s rich cultural heritage on a global stage.

worst carnival ever will not come back for carnival in a hurry. Dominica just needs an overhaul. everything is wrong with this place. after the hustle and expense to get here this nonsense is not carnival. people are undermining the carnival events to make money and they are being encouraged by a government with absolutely no vision.
where there is no vision the people will perish and its only the blind that can’t see the destruction in Dominica. the prime Minister is right to say Dominica is not a real country and the people living outside of Dominica in a better more stable life comes down in election time paid by skerrit and the labor party install this incompetent, impotent thing they call a government. leave the poor stupid laborites on their begging economy and go back to the USA, Canada etc. till the next poverty breeding election calls. SHAME ON YOU GUYS DESTROYING YOUR OWN COUNTRY. HOPE YOU ALL REMEMBER THE DOMINICA YOU CREATE ONE DAY YOU WILL LIVE IN

To me it was a real “success.” Because I had set aside $2000.00 to have a good time on Monday and Tuesday with friends; but then I decided to just stay home and sit in my veranda and watch. My $2,000.00 is still in my draw. So yes, what a carnival suckcess.

I was one of the visitors and I found it very disappointing. Also the national trail is in a terrible state with no reliable signage. I will not be back.

RESOUNDING SUCCESS. Then pay the 10th time calypso king $500 000.00 or a little more from your so-called Resounding success. I hope you will be sharing the financial figures with the general public and not just crowd and arrival figures. We want to see profit figures in $$$$. OK

You’re obviously living in cloud cuckoo land
to think that Mas Domnik 2024 was a resounding success, with Dominica’s carnival ending on a high note.

As a visiting Dominican, I hold a completely different view from my naked eyes, acting as a prism.

When the organisers of Dominica’s annual Carnival fails to make the necessary investment to grow Carnival, thus making contentious decisions revellers (like me) are going to be upset, and anyone who thinks otherwise is living in cloud cuckoo land.

Clearly apparent at Dominica’s Carnival 24 festival were three things:
      • Lack of concrete goals set for the festival.
      • Lack of marketing plan built for the festival.
      • Lack of budgeting considered for the moving
      parts in organiser’s festival planning.

Not just that Anger, they need to pay the prize winners of 2023 as well.

At least this year they did not take a whole month to announce the winners

On the issue of resounding success, these people are just full of crap! They never, ever state their expectations, but always quick to claim “a resounding success”. Lmao

The ruling regime and their operatives, if we use Melissa’s method of measurement, is how many patrons patronize the VIP sections of the events and purchase expensive drinks from the bar is spectacular success.

The public will never get a thorough accounting as to expenditure and profit. Just sweet lies of success and the local ‘journalists’ accept this as factual.

Trust nothing coming from this administration without the proper data for it has an adversarial relationship with the truth.
