Lime launches phone evolution photo contest to mark World Telecoms Day

LIME, the company that has driven telecoms innovation in the Caribbean for 140 years is marking World Telecommunications Day with the launch of a unique photo competition linking the past with the presenting and offering citizens a chance to win a new state-of- the-art BlackBerry Bold Smartphone.

To commemorate the day, which is being observed today, May 17, 2011, the Caribbean’s leading full-service telecoms provider is challenging individuals to submit a colour photograph of the oldest telephone that they own or have legitimate access to.  The aim of the contest is to highlight the evolution of the telecoms industry and telephone equipment over the years.

The competition, which will run from Tuesday May 17 to Friday June 10, 2011, is open to citizens in any of the 14 countries where LIME operates.  Participants can submit one or several photos.  Photos should be e-mailed to [email protected].

One winning photo will be chosen in each territory and the person who made the submission will win a coveted BlackBerry Smartphone to enjoy all the conveniences of modern telecommunication devices including instant messaging, video streaming, voice and video recording and web browsing.

Winners will be announced during the week of Monday June 13, 2011.

LIME’s Regional Vice President, Marketing & Corporate Communications, Grace Silvera said: “The history of telecommunications in the Caribbean is intricately linked with the history of Cable & Wireless/LIME because we are the company that has brought every telecoms innovation to the region from the telex, to the internet to mobile broadband technology.”

“This contest celebrates the old and the new by allowing us to take a look back to see how telecoms equipment and the overall industry have evolved and also to give citizens across the Caribbean a chance to win one of the latest, must-have communication devices,” she added.

Additional information on the contest is available at www.lime.com or through LIME’s local Corporate Communications Office at 255-3150
