RIM CEOs quit as BlackBerry maker struggles

Following the downturn in fortune for BlackBerry maker Research In Motion, Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis have stepped down from their roles as co-chief executives of the Canadian firm.

“In every successful company that is developed by founders, there comes a time when it enters a new phase of growth and it’s time for the founders to pass the baton to new management,” said Lazaridis in a statement to the New York Times.

Though its BlackBerry range of handsets were once considered trendy, the Canadian telecommunications company has failed to compete against Apple and Google’s operating systems and have reportedly lost over $70bn from its value since 2008.

If they FIX some things, like their damn App World, and help design their phones so they don’t FREEZE so damn freaking much, then maybe this wouldn’t be so much of a damn dang problem! 8-O

You’re not buying the stocks…you’re buying a phone. The product still holds its manufacturing value. The company still exist and in production so why should the price drop? I am still convinced that BlackBerry phones are better than Apple’s iPhone. Convergence is major factor in the development of mobiles, but let’s face it, do we really need all these unnecessary apps that one never gets to use on a daily? My Mrs had an iPhone with over a 100 apps and she only paid attention to the weather, internet, ipod and making calls. Guess what? she now uses the BB 9860 which I will upgrade to. I want a phone not a toy – BlackBerry.

Well you probably are the only person convinced that the blackberry is better than the Iphone, and just because your Mrs. has over 100 apps doesn’t mean that there aren’t hundreds more that iphone users utilize on a daily basis. I have owned both phones and quite frankly the only thing bb has is BBMgoing for it, but then again who cares there is whatsapp and tons of other communication apps for the iphone and as long as you have a good network and internet connection (3g,4g, egde) then you are in good safe hands. Have you even used the latest iphone?

For a company that is slowly going under their phones are still WAY too expensive. Competing with Apple and Android phones in expense is all they’re doing. Everything else? FAIL.

The former CEOs were too arrogant. Despite all the warning signs that the company was floundering they refused to step aside.

My best investment was not buying RIM stocks last summer when my financial adviser suggested I buy it at almost $70/share.

Well stated, I dunno why you got thumbs down. The cost of RIM’s shares have gone down significantly, yet their phones are still hugely overpriced.
