At just 16 years old, Sherkhia Andrew, hailing from the picturesque community of Marigot, has already made waves as she clinched the coveted title of Miss Teen Dominica 2024. Her journey to the crown was not only marked by glamour and poise but also by a deep-seated commitment to a cause close to her heart: road safety.
Andrew secured the crown of Miss Teen for the Dominica Grammar School, marking a significant milestone as it has been 20 years since the institution last claimed victory in the Miss Teen show. During her participation in the pageant, which took place on February 4, 2024, Andrew shone brightly, showcasing her talents and intellect. Notably, she won the award for Best Performing Talent, showcasing a poignant dance performance centered on her theme of road safety and its effects on families, captivating the audience with her skills.
In a world where road accidents claim countless lives each year, Andrew emphasizes the pressing need for awareness and action. Her passion for this cause stems from a desire to effect meaningful change. As she transitions from her former role as Carnival Princess 2019 to the esteemed title of Miss Teen Dominica 2024, Andrew says she is poised to use her platform to amplify this message. With aspirations of becoming an astronomer, the fifth-form student possesses a keen intellect and a forward-thinking mindset. She recognizes that road safety is not just a local issue but a global concern that demands attention and proactive measures. Through her advocacy efforts, she aims to raise awareness, promote responsible behavior on the roads, and ultimately save lives.
The teenager says her vision extends beyond the confines of her pageant success as she envisions a future where communities prioritize road safety education, infrastructure improvements, and stringent enforcement of traffic regulations. Her advocacy is not limited to rhetoric; she is determined to collaborate with local authorities, educational institutions, and grassroots organizations to implement tangible solutions.
