More Chinese medical doctors to assist in Dominica’s health sector

Members of the Chinese medical team

Another group of Chinese medical doctors is currently on island to assist in the country’s health sector.

The group which consist of four doctors, Urologist Dr. Youqiang Fang, Ophthalmologist, Dr. Bin Liu, Oncologist, Dr. Zijun Zhen and Cardiologist Dr. Dexi Wu, arrived in Dominica on July 15th.

They were introduced by Chief Economic and Commercial Officer of the Chinese Embassy, Wang Quanhuo during a ceremony held at the Panda Restaurant in Roseau on Wednesday.

The members of the group, who are said to be volunteers, are attached to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH).

They will provide assistance in the medical sector in Dominica for one year.

Commercial Officer of the Chinese Embassy, Wang Quanhuo

Quanhuo said the Doctors will help to provide guidance to local Doctors and nurses during their stay.

“We require them to do some work there…some surgical treatments, (operations),” he said.

In a statement by Dr. Fang the Chinese medical team from Guangdong Province successfully performed an urethral stenosis dilation and bladder lithotripsy under urethroscopy for the treatment of a patient suffering from prostatic hyperplasia and anterior urethral stricture.

“The operation was a complete success,” he said. “And the problem of long-term bladder fistula was solved in one time, which significantly improved the patient’s quality of life in the future.”

He continued, “As we know, it was the first case in using urethroscopy for the treatment of urethral stricture in Dominica.”

To improve the health of the Dominican public, the Chinese medical team is planning to donate 24-hour holter monitoring and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring equipment which will be very helpful to diagnose arrhythmia, hypertension, hypotension and treat them.

They are volunteers. They get no pay from Dominica. We thank their dedication here.

Under Skerrit Dominican Engineers are no longer competent so you find only Chinese working on the west coast road.
Our drivers, heavy equipment operators, or concrete truck operators are no longer able to drive on our narrow roads, so Skerrit has Chinese driving dump trucks, concrete trucks, backhoes, excavators, water trucks, masons you name it. The sad thing is not one Dominican is there understudying them so at least one day a Dominican might step in.
Then you go to one mile Porsmouth and it is clear that Dominicans are no longer able to do agricultural produce as is Chinese alone doing it and not one Dominican to learn from them.
It seems as if our doctors are no longer good enough for Skerrit as little by little Skerrit is getting rid of our doctors and quickly bringing in his Chinese doctors. Does that not say that Skerrit is getting Dominicans out of Dominica and bringing in Chinese to take over? Can you all ha e eyes to see but still blind?

YAH have mercy ‘pon we!!! Though the concept of medical ambassadorship may sound like a good idea, I remain highly concerned and skeptical about this initiative to allow Chinese doctors to practice in DA.

Practice is exactly what I believe they will be doing, as in experimental healthcare provision to an unsuspecting and vulnerable populace.

The Chinese have been all too willing to provide assistance to developing countries. Their concerted efforts in infrastructure assistance across the globe is now being exposed as they are now extending a heavy hand to collect on unpaid debts, even threatening to seize control of ports and gateways.

I am advising the current administration to proceed with extreme caution in this matter. I fully agree that our country is in dire straits when it comes to health care; however, all that glitters is not gold!!!

Some Dominicans are so ungrateful. That is part of the problem , here these Doctors have left their comfortable lives in China ,to serve you uneducated fools and instead of being grateful ,you all complain. we should all welcome all the health workers , make them feel at home . It would be good exposure as well to work with our local doctors. IF we as a people need to develop and grow. we need to think bigger than our ghetto attitude , Dominicans are very negative people and it shows on the country . WE WILL ALWAYS BE STRUGGLING ,WE NEVER KNOW HOW TO APPRECIATE WHAT WE HAVE.

We have been independent for 41 years. We have sent countless doctors to cuba to study. Today we are still depending on imperialism to take care of our own not because we have a shortage of Dominican doctors but because we cannot pay them enough to leave a comfy life and we do not trust people who look and sound like us. Loom at tbe advisers of the PM. Foriegners. You go kiss thier rings and give the praise for all i care. Our inferiority complex and dependency syndrome is what keeps us poor and stagnant. That place gets me sick. A people empowered will stand on thier own. A people belittled and demeaned will forever be beggars and dependent.

No wonder you have no name!

You are babbling about something you don’t now anything about.  First of all China and Cuba are the only two remaining communists nation on the face of the planet.

People don’t leave out of China to go any place unless the China government say they can go!

Leaving their good home as you contend is a myth. Their  living, and way of life in China may equal that of the average person in Dominica, they do not have any special prerogative in China; they are just like day laborers; their pay is simply survival money.

A typical doctor at a large tertiary level hospital in Beijing will officially earn about 46,000 yuan (US$7500) a year.

In reality, doctors earn more than three times that – about 180,000 yuan ($29,000) a year.

Some welfare recipients earns more than that in America!

A blanket statement saying all Dominicans are unappreciative is not accurate. A minority group have nothing good to say about Dominica. Just a few belong to the unappreciative wicked people group. So do not condemn all of us for the bad behavior of those in the uwp persuasion. The good Dominicans are in the majority, the silent majority . So no worries .
Good is never loud and trouble making. Good goes about in a civilize progressive way making positive contribution. Good will always overcome evil. Amen.

Make sure those there learn english because we the nursedhave to.learn chinese i a day to be able to communicate cause most time the patients understand nothng neither the nurse and we have to try to explain to the patients

    ADMIN: They can speak english.

    • Joseph John
      August 10, 2019

I do not believe this posting of Jane Doe comes from a nurse who is educated beyond the 5th grade. The Chinese people can write better English than this. They are even more literate in English than some British people. DNO quite rightly indicated that these doctors speak English. May I add that English is an international language and is written, spoken and understood fluently globally.
The western world is afraid that China will have the most influence in the world, but it is inevitable. Tthat accounts for their antagonism towards China.

i know doctors that have recently specialized and are back here to work. they are working but for months have not received a job letter from the Chief Medical Officer or the PS of Health stating they are employed. as a result they have been working at the hospital everyday for months and are yet to receive a pay check. Now you want to appoint Chinese Dr’s

More false diagnosis; false prognosis: More bad treatment; more malpractice; more will go in walking; more will come out carried foot first!

Quack, quack, quack, quacks in service!

What happen to all the Dominican doctors working here in the United States,  specialists who could serve our people better?

There must be a reason why they prefer to stay where the pastures are greener, where their services are appreciated, and pay are more lucrative; where they serve without government intervention, where little boy’s playing politician dumb like dogs; don’t know anything look down at them as nothing!

Dominicans continue to be Nestled between Objective and Subjective perspectives, the unlearned and Mis-Educated are the ones with the loudest voice. Internationalism + Bi-Lateralism is still a well Traveled Road irregardless of what many are ready to scream about. A vast number of Dominica’ Medical fraternity have left the Island seeking better lifestyles and conditions in the USA and other Climes, as a matter of fact, use to be Docters in Dominica, those trained in Cuba, have refused to channel their energies into passing the USA Medical exams, remain small time medical workers. Nurses, likewise who left in drones for a better life taking care of OLD White Folks, their working conditions in some cases are worse than Dominica’ . The Chinnese and Cubans are God sent in most cases, the nations have realized that “ONLY A LIFE LIVED FOR THE BENEFIT OF OTHERS, IS A LIFE WORTH LIVING”,HUMANE is the word, we limit ourselves to what one knows or where one is from, that is living in…

Skerro said some time ago that he changed Melville Hall to Douglas/Charles because it was a colonizer name, so why did he keep PMH? this guy has no idea how to run a country. I also think we are giving Skerro to much credit for thing that are going on in the country.

The Chinese are here to stay. They have already made deep inroads into business and infrastructure now they are slowly taking over the health sector. What sector is next?
We have to seek outside assistance at times but our people should never be sidelined. Build up our human resources so we will never become MOSTLY self reliant.
Skerrit seems to have a magnetic attraction to foreigners and foreign places.
*His children are born US citizens, Dominica not good enough for them.
*His senior advisors are mostly Bajans.
*Many of his diplomats were international crooks and fugitives.
    * The company presently building the housing apartments are Canadian.
*Soon the nurses and doctors are going to be exclusively Chinese and Cubans. Dominicans should start learning Mandarin and Spanish in order to communicate with their doctors and nurses, also patios for the Haitians.
Man, things are becoming convoluted in Dominica. Soon at the hospital your native tongue will become obsolete.

CORRECTION: Build up our human resources so we will never become MOSTLY self reliant.
The word ‘never’ should be omitted. The sentence should read-
Build up our human resources so we will be MOSTLY become self reliant.

Very limited English as I was recently at the hospital with my mom and even the head of the vascular section who is Spanish could not even utter one word in English. Thank God I could understand Spanish and the nurse also had to translate to people. Very shameful.

    that headline photo says alot
this is a big picture really
I heard the PM announce the name for the new hospital to be Dominica China Friendship hospital.

Note: The VOLUNTEERS are here on island for a period of 1 year (12 months)

by this time next year will they be replaced with Cuban medical TEAM?

    Question

Did the Ministry of Health through the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica request the services of these doctors?
