‘My vehicle was firebombed and I am not hearing anything’ – Carlisle Jno Baptiste

Carlisle Jno Baptiste

Well-known Dominican journalist, Carlisle Jno Baptiste is still searching for answers from the police after his vehicle was firebombed at his home in Pointe Michel on July 9, 2023.

At the time of the incident Jno. Baptiste was out of state.

Jno. Baptiste who was present at a police press briefing on Thursday said since his return, he visited the police station and gave a formal report. However, according to the reporter, he has since heard nothing  from the police.

“My vehicle was firebombed and I am not hearing anything,” he stressed. “That too is a crime.”

He continued, “I went to the police station, I gave a formal report. I was out of state and since I came back, I did that. I was told that the report…I will sign it.”

Jno Baptiste explained that the people who were present at his home at the time of the incident also gave a report on his behalf.

“We have not seen or heard anything from anybody ever since. Absolutely nothing,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Police Chief, Daniel Carbon who responded to the concerns raised by Jno. Baptiste advised him that if he knows anyone with information involving the matter to make it available to the police.

“Based on what you said I would want to understand that the police would want to have more information in relation to anybody you believe who would have done that,” Carbon said. “If you know somebody who has that information, you can encourage them to make the information available to the police.”

The reason behind the incident is unknown but Jno Baptiste believes it is the result of his work. He has been part of the media landscape in Dominica for over 25 years.

He has worked or contributed to various media houses including The Chronicle, state-owned DBS Radio, Q95, and Dominica News Online, among others. He presently owns his own news site Nature Isle News. Jno Baptiste is thankful that his family was not hurt in the incident.

You know somehow I feel sorry for him; they keep stressing that he is some big time journalists; but I suggest he is a very poor one!

That car is nothing someone should be crying over; as I said that is spill milk:
Even if the police found whoever destroyed his treasure, that does constitute payment; the criminal will be sent to jail, for all we know the perpetrator might be poorer than the victim without a dime to his/her name.

He is crying to see if someone will give him a car; I probably can, but only if he was living on the in the continental United States, have more than one that I do not drive; but getting it Dominica; from California, the cost don’t worth it.
    Shipping cost is very high.

“My vehicle was firebombed and I am not hearing anything,” he stressed. “That too is a crime.”

Lol! What crime is this? What law has been broken? Perpetrated by who against whom? What is the motive? All these questions must be answered in order for one to conclude that a crime has taken place. Stop peltering words willy nilly.

Well, the offense, or crime is called vandalism: that is a felony, which can land the perpetrator in jail for a long time!

People are not suppose to vandalize peoples property, it the same as an arsonist setting some house on fire; or breaking out all the doors and windows in ones house.

So the police commissioner wants Mr. Jno-Baptiste to do their work for them?

The response of the incompetent police chief, Carbon, sounds hostile and that of someone who doesn’t take the matter seriously enough. Even in the Antigua parliament the matter was addressed but here in Dominica the puppet wannabe police chief is so haughty that he challenges the victim instead of being humble and appeasing the concerns of Mr Jno Baptiste. What a state of affairs for the country when it sounds like the police stooge chief chooses to put the victim of a crime in double jeopardy, first his life and safety and that of his family is upended and un-top of that not having heard anything from the police he has the police goofball challenging him to present information. It’s time for a real police chief and get this puddle out of there. The country deserves better. So much incompetence that the minister of national security and the “I’m-the-people” leader have to take to the airwaves in the face of runaway crime yet the puddle won’t bark. Shame on Carbon.

Mr. Carlisle Jno Baptiste on learning of the damage to his vehicle did not alert the police but his first reaction was to contact the man who controls everything in Dominica (I run things – control freak of a dictator).

Protocol dictates that the police are the ones that should be first contacted when a crime is committed. He should not be irate with law enforcement but with the guy who he initially ran to for assistance.

This incident clearly reveals the unhealthy and unholy closeness and collusion between many local reporters and the overly corrupt maladministration.

In state or away what difference it makes?
Man stop crying over silt milk!
I agree perhaps that is only what you could afford, but I don’t think that is so valuable that you cannot survive without it, and go on with your life!
Time you exert in crying over that match box, you should be trying to to buy something better!
People have cars value hundreds of thousands of Dollars parked in their drive way, and on the side of the street, they wake up in the morning never to see that more than a hundred thousand dollar car again, if they have comprehensive INS, all they do is report the theft to the police, and call their insurance carrier!
The way you are mourning over that match box, tells me you probably did no have any insurance!
