Health Minister Cassanni Laville has announced that the new Marigot Hospital will be commissioned in July of this year.
He made the disclosure during a recently held tour of the facility.
The facility which will serve the people of the northeast of Dominica will offer an expansive list of health services, including outpatient, emergency, and inpatient services such as dialysis treatment.
Residents of Wesley, Woodford Hill, Palm Tree, Marigot, Atkinson, and Calibishie will no longer have to go to Roseau to get dialysis treatment.
“We will be commissioning this hospital next month, either the second or third week of next month,” Laville said.
According to him, the facility is a multimillion-dollar investment.
“You have a wonderful facility, not only outside, but on the inside,” he said. “We have a facility that is over 52,000 square feet.”
He continued, “We have many services that we will provide. For example, we have a dwelling for our staff that will be on call. We have a chapel, we have a water storage tank, a backup generator downstairs as well, and an industrial kitchen.”
Laville added, “We also have a State-of-the-Art auditorium.”
“A place where we can host meetings and trainings for the various staff of the hospital and that is certainly a big improvement,” Laville stated.
Furthermore, he mentioned that on the ground floor level, there will be laboratory and dental services, radiology, a delivery room, and a morgue.
Laville pointed out that there will also be mental health rooms and out-patient services on the ground floor.
“It’s really a full-scale hospital,” he stated.
Laville continued, “Upstairs we have our Intensive Care Unit (ICU), operation theatre, sterilization area and we also have maternity and inpatient wards. That includes male, female areas and pediatrics.”
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Representative of the Marigot Constituency Anthony Charles said he is pleased that the constituents now have a better understanding of the project.
“All the guessing is over, we are actually seeing and the engagement between the health team is of great importance,” he stated. “So once we know what is going on there will be no negativity.”
He added, “I am quite impressed with the equipment and everything that’s in place, so we are just waiting on the long overdue commissioning of the facility.”
Why is it not open and functioning? Where can Dominicans apply for jobs at the hospital?
I would seriously love to ask that we stop using the phrase “state of the art” here in Dominica. It seriously URKS me when we try to act like we have the best technology and best this and we have state of the art. But when you check the real state of our art it is ALWAYS mediocre, near to being outdated, poorly executed and overall lacking a waw factor. I remember when they spoke about the state of the art center for ict excellence at the state college. Turned out to be an untidy room with a few desktop computers. Or the new hospital. i could go on and on. But we need to stop acting like we have the best stuff going on here. We travel and we see better. Lets stop lying to ourselves with the state of the art. I could more accept state of our art. Because everywhere else we know is chalk and cheese.
Where’s Ibo, or may I say Mr. Allcork and brown, Where the hell is Francisco, ugly Lenny, and his scavengers they gone Quiet it is as if they left their tongues in side their mothers, nobody is talking about the; Marigot state of the art Hospital; give me a sound you bloody hells angels and imposters.
DNO admin, please correct the caption under 2nd Photo. I am not aware that Gregory Riviere was ever a parliamentary representative.
ADMIN: Thank you for pointing that out. We have since corrected the caption.
Sir the only question I want to ask do you know whats the meaning of state of art cause I dont think you know the meaning
A similar hospital can be built in Grandbay with 100 rooms to serve the South and one built in La Plaine with another 100 rooms to serve the East.
If the minister’s reference to “a wonderful facility (on the ) outside” refers to the building’s architectural identity, I beg to differ.
The design appears to be lifted straight from the MMC stock pattern book and bears no relation to Dominica or the Caribbean in general.
Amen Mr. Burnett. i hope they at least install solar panels to cut down on electricity costs. Or are we sti;l waiting on geothermal to supplement that cost?
The hospital looks fantastic but are there going to be enough qualified doctors and nurses to staff the hospital or are they all going to be in Roseau? Does the main Hospital in Roseau have a helicopter, if not why not. The Prime Minister should buy at least two helicopters for the Dominican hospitals so Dominica does not have to rely on helicopters from the neighboring French islands. In an emergency helicopters work better getting patients from remote ares to treatment faster. Most major hospitals in other countries have their own helicopters.
Here we go, yet another state-of-the-art facility. Our corrupt little country is full of state-of-the-art but only in the head of our state-of-the-art politicians. However in reality, if one was to search for all these state-of-the-art facilities, one wouldn’t find a single one.
Yeah we definitely need to get a court order to stop this government from over use and abuse of this phrase.
It’s pathetic!
DNO, the second photograph says “opposition members and former Parl Rep of Marigot Gregory Riviere and Minister Laville” . Where did you get this information from???! Is it a genuine error or an attempt to wilfully mislead the public?? I hope it’s the former. Gregory Riviere nor any Labour Party candidate can NEVER win the Marigot constituency, at least not under THIS LABOUR PARTY OR ANY OTHER INVOLVED IN CORRUPTION!!
Respectfully submitted
ADMIN: We had the caption corrected.
It was difficult, sad, and discouraging to read this news article – a Program Engineer has now been reduced to a Hospital Tour Guide? Only in Dominica!
Woman, find something better to do with your life. You are just a bedbug nuisance.
@ds
What about your own life? You are only half a man, because you are divorced from reality! Sure you cant even pay your own passage to return home. You only come once in five years because your master wants you too. Shame on you. This tells you that laziness does not pay!
me, Is that a case pot calling kettle black? That is what your
comments sounds like to me.
Is there anything wrong in learning other Ministries? That makes you versatile and indispensable knowing them all and not stuck in a rut. Have you ever thought of that. It’s good to push them around. Let them learn other Ministries. It goes to show how uneducated and simple you are.
Ds, she does not need your hybrid comment.. flush it where the sun never shines…
Too bad flushing it on your already damaged brain where the sun never shines won’t work. Have you ever consulted with a surgeon about your damaged-brain? Yo better do or else it might metastasize to your entire body.
He definitely got demoted this cabinet. And not only that. He has a Minister of state in his ministry who is a medical Doctor. That says all.
What’s wrong about pushing them around? Let them learn other Ministries and how they all function. It has nothing to do with you are a medical doctor and from the Health Ministry you are now in the Finance Ministry. Got it?
It makes your resume look good. Knowing a myriad of other things or ministries and expanding your horizon. Have you ever thought about that?
First of all effusive Kudos to honourable Linton for compelling liar Skerrit to get this hospital up and running. It’s better late than never…Good job honourable Linton!
Secondly, can this grinning guy (a clown really), explain what he means by state of the art? I heard the same garbage about the new PMH. But it still functions as the most backward health facility in the region!! Stop using jargon in a loose manner to fool unsuspecting people. State of the art is not a beautiful building, your empty headed, doltish, deceitful and incompetent health minister. How many specialists? How many modern machines? Specialists in which fields? Name the new machines, specialised technicians, etc, etc.
By the way were there cost overruns! Why? and what was the quantum?
Happy i can think for myself, so you guys dont fool me! You are out of you depths in this field Assani, but i don’t feel sorry for you. Before joining this DLP, you knew it was a corruption infested organisation!
Keep…
By all means you had to bring in Ugly Willy Lenny into the picture. For your information Lennox Linton has done nothing for the advancement of Dominica. All he is popularly known for is set tires on fire, blocking main roads, inciting the UWP gangs to pelt stones and what have you at buildings and law abiding citizens. MAN, GO REST YOURSELF EN MEME TOUA.
@ds
If you have been here on DNO for some time, you should have known that your little talk as a door mat and sycophant of Skerrit, only serves to embolden me in delivering the truth. To think otherwise, you must be very much devoid of reality. I must have exposed your nefarious God, but don’t burst any more blood vessel. I shall continue doing so, (exposing him).
Oops you always seem to be talking about a hole as in “TOUA”. Are you a half man, a paedophile, a nasty creature involved in nasty business, why are you so fixated to a hole? Leave your sodomic lifestyle away from DNO. Children could be reading those comments. Your NASTY character! I am married,, fearless, speak my mind and can’t be flustered by anyone. You IQ seem to be extremely low, so if you do not understand anything that i’ve written feel free to contact me again.
Toujou!!?? I thought this thing was up and running long time ago. Man things move slow in Dominica.
For example that Anachi hotel in Picard. That thing probably started like 5 years ago. Every time I see a construction update on YouTube I see the same buildings in the same condition. There are sky scrapers around the world that started after this thing and are already completed.
Look Boy, if you got nothing interesting to say keep your dam mouth shut and get out of here! Your A-i is very low indeed.
