Dominica’s newest political party, The Alternative People’s Party (APP), will launch its website next week.
A release from the party states that “after months of hard work and dedication,” the party is pleased to announce the official launch of its website on May 11, 2020.
Formed in December 2019, APP describes itself as a centrist, law-abiding political organization and movement founded on the principle of coexistence, democracy and justice, seeking greater involvement of youth and women in electoral politics on the island and among Dominicans in the diaspora.
According to the release the party’s plans and objectives will be discussed at the website launch which be will be carried live from 10:30 am on Monday.
“Our user-friendly website will give full details on Who We Are, How We Work, What We Stand for, Our History, Party Colour and the leadership behind our team, among others,” the release states. “Amongst the features, the site contains integrated social media buttons for Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to foster improved communication with you, the Grassroot voters.”
It further states that constant updates of helpful information, “cutting edge, thought-provoking leadership approaches” and new plans, will be uploaded to the site.
“Our primary goal during the design process was to create a more valuable, user-centric and engaging web-based forum. Specifically, we wanted to focus on making it easier for our users to learn and locate valuable information about the Party. We have established this portal as a source of information for those who visit our site,” the release explained.
APP invites the public to visit their website after its launch and invites persons to contact them at [email protected] or Facebook @ Alternative Peoples’ Party, to get more information.
APP aims to unite Dominicans under one common goal – “prosperity for all irrespective of party affiliations, spiritual beliefs and financial circumstances.”
I saw the interim executive of that party. There were 4 women and no men. They said they were women and youth focused. Obviously they are listening to each other. That party is going nowhere. This is a joke party.
I also noticed that the party has only female representation and makes no assertions on their plans to help the unemployed young MEN in Dominica.
With all the women’s issues we keep focusing on these days (despite women doing just fine, politically, financially and in tertiary education for the past 10+ years if not longer) ….I hope you all will be prepared for the severe shortage of eligible bachelors we will have in Dominica very soon.
We seem to forget the Dominica was one of the first Caribbean islands to have a female leader…and she was Prime Minister for 15 yrs. I don’t know why we keep pretending that women are this powerless underprivileged class in Dominica. That just isn’t true.
How many of our university graduates each year are males ? How many of our newest Doctors and Lawyers are males ?
We cannot just let our boys fall by the wayside.

There are five independent countries in the OECS namely Antigua & Barbuda; St. Kitts & Nevis; St. Vincent & the Grenadier; St. Lucia; Dominica. Can you reasonably justify why Dominica lags light years behind these islands in infrastructural development, tourist arrivals, economic prowess, etcetera? Personally I think some people demand too much of Mr. Linton. The man’s back is against the wall. Mr. Skerrit has free access to most of the electronic media in Dominica. Access also to many millions of dollars. He presides over the most corrupt electoral system. He offers ‘cool out’ money , promise jobs and promotions, keep concerts with the most popular artistes and gives away food and drinks all free of cost. He deliberately places malleable , spineless personalities in critical positions throughout the civil service to do his bidding. With such unfair advantages, not even the likes of Barack Obama (if he were a Dominican) would have beaten Skerrit in an election under these corrupt conditions. The twenty years of suffering can be attributed to the lazy, cowardly media, the weak labour unions, the lackluster business sector, the money grabbing churches and the gullible, bribable citizens. Whats the real rational for a new political party? what is this new party going to champion among voters that hasn’t been championed by the UWP, DFP and the SAPPHIRE online party? what is the rational for forming a new political party in Dominica? A new political party will work in favor of the Skerrits remaining in power till 2050 hereby fulfilling his dream. What are the issues the APP intends to address, that the Freedom party, the UWP, and the Sapphire online party is not addressing? I think what is required is a consolidation of the opposition parties into one force that will once and for all defeat the deep rooted corrupted regime of the Skerrits. We are all aware that the DLP is just a name -the DLP is non-functional, there hasn’t been a party convention in years if I recall seen 2013; therefore by virtue of that fact the DLP as an organization does not really exist. There is no executive, there are no officers forming the party which is so sad, surely not what the founders would want, yet still labourites are accepting that as being normal. APP is not going to very relevant in the existing political landscape.

Stop with the labels as they are just meaningless. As a political party be transparent; be inclusive; be fair; govern for everybody irrespective of their political affiliation among other things. Again, the centrist, leftist and rightwing labels only serve divide us politically. The word ‘ALTERNATIVE’, in my estimation, connotes second choice. Wish you well though and hope your party will bring cohesion and less division; healing and not hurt; prosperity and not hardship and finally transparency and no more opacity.

What a negative move! On Skerrit can benefit from that new move. All this new online party will succeed in doing is cause more decision in Dominica which will only make Skerrit stronger. We already have DLP, UWp and DFP and a forth party? Did they realize that despite the 18/3 result, it was just a little over 2000 votes that caused Skerrit to steal the election, for which he has no peace in his heart as the country continues to vanish away? So they going to fight for the 2000 votes? That move is like one of the villages with 800 people but 20 churches preaching the same bible but one saying others wrong except their church. At the end we will have a decided village with 20 different doctrines and 20 different cemeteries. If their objective was to deliver Dominica from Skerrit, then why not join forces either with Uwp or Dfp to defeat Skerrit? Why not everybody coming together? You are right. I harbour similar sentiments. Who is financing this new party? Who are the people involved? Nothing would suit Skerrit better than have another party based in N. America to divide the people but in reality form a pact of mutual support at election time, without arousing undue suspicion or critique. They will simply claim that in the interest of our nation they must be united. There is nothing new about this strategy of divide and rule. Julius Caesar was a tactician who deployed it successfully over 2,000 years ago. Likewise, mr. Skerrit must prevent any opposition from presenting a common front to his rule at all costs. Our little country has more potential voters outside its own borders than within and ironically this would give some credence to having Dominica controlled from outside under the semblance of national unity. I am very suspicious of this fishy organisation and do not think we should spend too much of our energy combatting ghosts.
I don’t share some of your views. If you are forming a new competing entity would you partner or include others associated with the undesirable competition? I sure would not.
Do some real analysis. Many voted one of the two because there was no preferred 3rd option. Many did not vote for the same reason. I contend that a 3rd and more desirable option could more likely win the majority.
That is where the DFP made a collosal error missed their biggest opportunity for this century. They shud have been that 3rd alternative, capitalising on its history of honesty and integrity, instead of backing down and showing support to others.
