NYCD President proposes agriculture enterprise project

An acre of land, which could be used for a youth agricultural project, is one suggestion that the newly installed President of the National Youth Council of Dominica (NYCD) Jahisiah Benoit is hoping would receive support from the Government of Dominica.

Jahisiah Benoit made the suggestion recently during his maiden speech as president of the NYC.

“We are saying that if the NYC were to be apportioned an acre of land we can discuss the details as to what terms would be made available”, but for now he said “ I just want you to picture and share the vision that we had access to that land”.

“We could work an acre of land and get into agriculture in a big way,” he said.

Benoit is confident that the new executive team of which he is at the helm is poised to making this project successful.

“I think that from the meetings we have been having so far, the council members are very motivated and willing to do some work,” he noted.

“If we get access to such an acreage, we could do some farming to generate much needed revenue,” he envisioned.

“It’s a start” he said, “I think it’s actually one of the most feasible enterprise that we can enter into at this time”.

The new executive of the National Youth Council of Dominica comprises thirteen persons and was officially sworn into office two weeks ago to lead the council until 2015.

Benoit is of the view that given the composition of the new executive board, it holds a unique opportunity to take this idea for an agricultural enterprise forward.

Benoit also disclosed plans by his executive to organize an Enterprise Development forum later this year. He said important partners will be invited to make a contribution at that forum.

“We hope to facilitate during the fourth quarter of this year an Enterprise Development Forum, where we can invite partners from Dominica Employment and Small business support agency, also the Dominica Youth business Trust to dialogue”.

“With that said, we really looking forward to working with all partners in shaping this enterprise forum so that before our tenure is done, we would have an established entity, generating revenue towards facilitation of more youth activities”, he concluded.

Are we serious? A young man is asking for an acre of land to promote development, the comments are reckless and unbiased.I am surprise that a magnitude of comments are not coming in favor of this young man plea.We spend so much time pushing each other down and fail to support a worthy cause.I support the effort of the young man and hope that he will be successful in his endeavor.

I just cannot understand those so called youth leaders.

The UWP ask for the boycotting of the National Youth Parade and you are saying absolutely nothing on this matter. Yet you all were quick to speak out about sex videos. What kind of double standard is that. Its only when news is sensational and you all need attention that that NYC speaks out.
What has happened to national pride, civics and such important values. I hope that the NYC issues a call requesting of all youths and youth organizations to attend the youth rally… and stop using us the youths as a political football.
I hope DNO publishes that comment>>>>>

    Jahisiah:
You have the entrepreneurship spirit and the strategy to call on other youth to envision that plan is excellent. This is how one gets buy-in from ones peers. I thank your mother for the sacrifices she has made and the path that she has encouraged you walk. May God bless your work for and among your youthful peers in the nature island.

I thought you were smarter than that, but you have disappointed in two ways, prominently sitted in your red shirt at the Labour Party convention and now not realizing that an acre of land is 43560 square feet, what can that do for the army of unemployed youth?
As youth leader you would serve better not openly identifying with any of the political tribes. Playing smart but not being Clever – Bob Marley
