A house fire in the Citronnier area which occurred some time this morning, has left one occupant of the dwelling house  nursing minor injuries at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH).

Chief Fire Officer of the Dominica  Fire and Ambulance Services, Josiah Dupuis revealed to Dominica News Online (DNO) that about 6:30 a.m today August 19, 2021, his department responded to a call in Critronnier.

The dwelling house in question was that of the late Phillip Alleyne, renowned cricket umpire and founder of the Dominica Cricket Umpires Association and Football Referees Association.

Dupuis said the home is now owned by the wife of Alleyne, Kathlyn Alleyne, who resides there with two other family members.

He said one of the occupants of the home received minor injuries during the time of the fire and was transported to the DCFH by the Fire and Ambulance Services.

The Fire Chief further disclosed that most of the damage to the two storey structure occurred in the interior of the ground floor with minimal destruction to the top floor.

Dupuis said the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

I’m sorry for Ms Katherine and Vernon and hope they pull through without too much trauma. Stay strong and focussed on the Lord who is the giver of all things.
