Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that over 200 Dominicans are currently employed on the international airport project. He made the announcement during a press conference held recently.
“On the construction of the international airport project works are progressing very well and on schedule,” he said. “I want to also say that there are 207 Dominicans on the international airport project.”
As the project intensifies, he expects more Dominicans to be employed.
“We can certainly engage in excess of 1000 Dominicans if we can get that number employed on the airport in doing various things,” he indicated.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Skerrit stated that there will also be engagement with local truck operators.
“There are many things happening at the same time at the airport, but certainly we thank God for where we are,” he noted.
A one-billion-dollar contract between the Government of Dominica and Montreal Management Consultant Establishment (MMCE) was signed, signaling the official commencement of the construction of the highly anticipated international airport. The contract signing which took place at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium on June 9, 2021, is a long-awaited dream held in the hearts of citizens for over 50 years.
Meanwhile, he said extension works on the runway at the Douglas Charles Airport have commenced.
“The runway will extend westwards to give aircrafts an overall available takeoff run of 1,936 meters for runway 09, that is from the mountain end and up from the current 1,756 meters,” he explained.
Mr. Skerrit continued, “The extension will have the added benefit of increasing the declared landing distance available on runway 27, that is from the sea end by 67 meters to a length of 1,808 meters.”
He explained further that the runway will also be grooved to increase safety when wet, thereby increasing pilots’ confidence in landing. He assured the public that these improvements are in keeping with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and meet the approval of the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority.
“As we have said, the upgrades are critical to secure increased direct flights from the United States of America and other tourism source markets and for the realization of Dominica’s visitors’ arrival goal of $500,000 stayover visitors by 2030,” he stated.
Mr. Skerrit revealed that works are expected to be completed within three months of the start date.
Is this another project failure on the horizon, driven by stupid politicians fighting over “who gets what” instead of enabling Master Airport builders to use experienced teams to design and deliver on time, on budget and to the desired quality.

On another note: I am very surprised the Seventh Day Adventist which makes the Ten Commandments their doctrine, yet over 85% of them are supporting a leader that keeps breaking everyone of the Ten Commandments in broad day light and some of them are literally applauding and condoning the man. Reminds of my friend who was asked to bid on a contract by a government official. He had no experience in that field, but he was asked to bid. He bid and (miraculously🤣) won the contract. He subcontracted the work to a company that actually knew what they were doing. He took his cut, gave the government official his cut and the country was poorer for it.
At least they are more experienced than you are. Can you build an International Airport? No. Then shut your a.. up.
You know my friend in this instance it has less to do with experience building an airport but rather laundering money or claiming the contract is double the actual stated value. In other words, it’s a desperate attempt to account for missing CBI dollars.

For the the most i have seem mostly haitians working on the plot when it was your farm after Maria. Now that you are building your 3rd mansion all i have seen are Chinese working there, especially as of late. Chinese only! Now what about the good public roads that you have destroyed outside of the walls of this new mansion?
