Parliamentary Representative of the Roseau South Constituency, Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite has called on the youth in that constituency to join the Newtown Bwabwa Academy (NBbA).
Her call came while delivering remarks at a handing over ceremony of a storage facility for the Newtown Stilt Walkers by the Caribbean Digital Transformation Project.
The storage facility is being housed at the Newtown Innovation Hub.
The NBbA Inc is a non-profit organization deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of Dominica. Established in August 2017, NBbA has been committed to nurturing the youth of Dominica by providing them with valuable lessons in leadership and cultural entrepreneurship through the vibrant art of stilt walking.
She also appealed to the corporate community, sponsors, business persons, and individuals to come on board to assist these young persons in developing themselves.
Lockhart-Hypolite said she will do all in her power to assist her constituents.
“But I cannot do it alone,” she noted. “I am always here for my constituents to help you in any way that I can, to make you realize you set goals.”
“I am calling upon you, my people, particularly the youth to join the Newtown Bwabwa Academy,” she said.
“It is ours, we must take ownership of it,” Lockhart-Hypolite indicated.
Furthermore, she said a community cannot exist without people; the talent and resources must be harnessed to bear fruit.
She added, “They have been making us really proud and have been great cultural ambassadors. “They are deserving of all the assistance necessary to fulfil their mandate.”
Lockhart-Hypolite believes that endless doors can be opened for the advancement of culture in the Harlem community.
As someone born and raised in Newtown, I welcome this opportunity to take Mrs. Lockhart-Hypolite to task. Ma’am you purport to care about the residents of your constituency, I think that you believe it when you say that, now it’s time you prove your words with your actions. Let’s first help the addicts you’re enabling with your stipend, get them help instead of financing their addictions in exchange for votes. Secondly, take care of your elderly, stop holding them hostage for votes, by denying the the $300 stipend your government promised them. Let’s cleaning up the cancers plaguing and killing our young people, take care of the elderly regardless of colour, clean up the community, and then we can focus on the thrills.
The Cliff at the foot of Fortune is falling, you need to continue the retaining wall. There’s a nice project for you. The drain has been blocked for over a month now under that same cliff and it has yet to be unblocked.
All the Boss man good at is sending his stooges to sweep those dirty streets. NewTown looks like the Gaza Strip. These people must be Blue?
Red. Majority of them went and voted for Skerrit through that woman Chekira. What is crazy is that we does act like the parl rep will make a difference these days. Gone are the days when a parl rep used to fight for their people’s betterment regardless of what the part says. Now, everybody know is roosevelt skerrit name that on every ballot and he only sending those other people to stand as a rep. because nothing happens unless he says to do it.
Send and ask Ross University In Barbados for a donation. They may tell you where to go.
“Lockhart-Hypolite said she will do all in her power to assist her constituents…” ?? My dear, best you just say constituents from Newtown to Castle Comfort cos there ALONE you be…… Kingshill, Morne Bruce, Bath Estate, Elmshall, Silver Lake not in your plan in NOTHING…!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Much should be expected of persons in such prominent and influential positions in the civil service. Minister, you have damaged your reputation beyond repair. That vulgar video with you frolicking on the boat will be on the Internet for eternity. What a role model for the young, impressionable minds to emulate!
Anyone who closely aligns himself/herself with Roosevelt is of ill-repute. Her grandiose vision for the youth of her constituency is nothing more than beguilement.
Parlrep my boom boom, they are all Skerrit poompoom flies and nothing more. All of these greedy and avierge people turn me off
invite Skerrit and Melissa to make financial donation nuh
is not dem dat have money
Skerrit knows all people with money in Dominica he shouldn’t have to send you out here to beg businesses to make a donation.
create youth friendly venues where children can safely gather to be children and not leave it open for the characters on bikes and scooters to spend their time there.
Establish school competitions in the constituency to encourage youth, with the backing of their schools to participate in.
During holiday periods establish cultural workshops for youth (costume making, song writing, arts and crafts, digital design, drum making, etc) followed by a show of their work. Talent contests are no longer a thing it seems.
These are just 3 doable ideas that i seems i have to tell them they can do. smh.
When that Parl. rep. was on the boat singing along to that vulgar music and even allowing a video of it to go viral did she not realize that her behavior could have a negative impact on our youth? Then again she is the one who said that Dominicans should travel backdoor to come vote for her party.
