Pastor Jack Leatham calls on religious leaders to ‘get practical’

Pastor Jack Leatham

Local Pastor, Jack Leatham, has sounded a call to other religious leaders in Dominica to “get practical’ in the new year ahead.

Leatham, along with his church members who recently celebrated 40 years of giving back to the community and those in need, said in an interview with Dominica News Online (DNO) that many of the religious figures are not honoring biblical principle when it comes to assisting.

“They don’t really like to hear me saying that but I am on the radio every Monday night 6- 8 and I say things which make them mad and I don’t see this one as an issue because it is very true. We need our leaders to get practical. Do something in every community,” he stated.

The religious leader admits that it is impossible to brighten the whole world but states that every church leader can brighten the corner where they are and start by helping their neighbors.

“At my church, every church member is an ambassador. If you can stay outside your window and you can see houses that are your constituency, therefore, we say to every church member to get involved. What happens in Pichlein can happen across the island. Just get practical. Look at the child, look at the neighbor. If there is an elderly living next to you, that’s your responsibility, especially if you’re calling the name of Jesus,” Leatham insisted.

He is of the view that there are a lot of church leaders in Dominica who only “talk the talk but they never walk the walk and do what’s needed.”

The pastor noted that anytime a religious leader accepts the calling, one of their primary roles is to lend support.

He says, he is therefore, in the new year, strongly appealing to all leaders, irrespective of their denomination, to do something in their communities to assist those in need.

Leatham spoke to DNO during an activity which was organized recently by a number of charitable organizations in Dominica, include his church, to bring Christmas cheer to the less fortunate in Roseau.

It is so sad to see us having nothing nice to say to each other even online. We only criticise each other as if one is better than the other where as since we’re on earth we are equal. Equal in sins, in struggles. Because a sin, sin a sin. A struggle, is a struggle….no matter the level. Let’s encourage one an other to hold on strong and do our best to stay attached to the Most Hight (what ever the name). It’s not easy, it’s challenging but through Him we can do all things. I pray that what ever colonialism did to us to devide us, that we seek deep in our innerself to find the strengh to love one and other and to do unto others what we would like others to do unto us. May the Lord our Father bless us as one body. Yours faithfully, Grace.

It is unbelievable in this day going into the year 2021 you are still fighting over the white European’s religion. By now, the spiritual being that you are you should leave the people thing for them, look into the one they banned and abolished and at the same time enslaved your great grandfather and great grandmother and took their land, not so long ago; instead of being here fighting among yourselves while they laff at you. Seriously.

  8. Ahab & Jezebel
    December 29, 2020

Though I strongly agree with the pastor I still believe he didn’t go far enough. He needed to expose the hypocrisy of the religious body here for causing our country to be in the mess that it is now. It’s the greed the hypocrisy of some of our religious leaders that caused the ungodly spirit of Ahab and Jezebel, to be so prevalent in our churches and country today. It’s a spirit that calls wrong right and sin righteous. So to them Ahab can do nothing wrong. So now sin is not a problem in the church. We now have more adultery, more divorce, more hungry people but that’s not a problem because it’s the spirit of Ahab. It’s a spirit where each labor voter can get a ham or turkey but those that voted the opposition doest get a bone, even if they go to the same church or family members. It’s a spirit that not only supports wrong and evil but one that partakes in the evil of Ahab and Jezebel though Ephesians 5:7 warns us not to be partakers of their evil. So they lie about villas and…
