PM Skerrit wants people mobilized nationally to help eliminate hazards

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said he hopes to have a national mobilization of people in communities by the end of this week to help in the elimination of hazards in times of disaster.

Skerrit made this announcement at a meeting of the National Emergency Planning Organization (NEPO) last week.

“The initiative we were seeking to implement in quick order, and I hope that it can be done before the end of next week, is to have a national mobilization of people at the community level to help eliminate the presence of hazards in those villages and those communities,” the prime minister stated.

He continued, “For example, we have the national empowerment programme. I would like for us to use that national empowerment programme allowing village councils, disaster communities, community-based groups to engage ourselves as a nation, in the elimination of hazards in the communities. The clearing of drains, small ravines all of these things. If we don’t pay attention to them, can pose serious threats to lives and properties.”

Skerrit reminded that a simple drain can be turned into a major water flow and said it is therefore essential, to take this course of action.

The prime minister said that he is hoping to get support from various individuals and organizations in the communities to help implement this effort and reminded the public that if action is not taken against these hazards and threats, families and lives will be impacted.

Interesting call for national mobilization of people to eliminate hazards in communities… but Prime Minister Skerrit are you aware that this is done annually prior to the start of the hurricane season.

Why don’t you mobilize the NEP to take the lead within the communities and what about Dominica Strong since they have been paid millions but the hazards of most waterways still lurking in the dark.

A good idea to restart Public Works to do what Dominica Strong is doing

People are demoralized and disillusioned just ask Swallow, I hope he on the meritorious service awards list for Independence 2019.

   Yet the biggest hazard is still among us, who is willing to move it? Anyone?

so Joseph John wants me arrested just like they arrest and harass opposition members and claim that opposition planned coup? joseph john don’t you think this government could eliminate all hazards if they use the country’s money wisely rather than giving out at red clinics?
ohh and DNO is not kairi fm, mapin , dbs or vibes radio. If it were not for DNO and q95 you and your aspiring dictator together with senior council devil would have total control of the media would not you?

Well said Brother, Whooooaaaa damn well said. Tell it to him again. “Joseph john don’t you think this government could eliminate all hazards if they use the country’s money wisely rather than giving out at red clinics?
The added hazards are as follows:
      1. Obvious Hazards inflicting poverty and disturbance in our Dominica,
      2. Get rid of Skerrit and his failed incompetent corrupt Labour Government: Too much Bobol and abuse f states funds.
      3. Our villages are still isolated, in deep poverty, no jobs, no bananas etc and all Skerrit does is offer handouts to appease people towards him and dirty labour government.
      4. Skerrit knows nothing of Socio-Economic development. Skerrit is therefore idle and unable to guide us in developing our villages and Dominica. This man Skerrit is a damn big failure and he must Go. Just Go, take your so called dirty Labour government and Get lost. Tony Astaphans and Blind loyalists have failed our Dominica. The galvanized fences all over the island should be banned. They are missiles and unsightly. As the Nature Isle, hedges should be encouraged.

Only BS that man talking and trying to look important. Everything in DA they’ve allowed to deteriorate beyond recognition and now they ask the citizens to put it right. What are we paying you for, Skerrit. To spend 40 weeks a year on holiday abroad at our expense? Go away, you have overstayed your welcome!

so NEP workers preparing us against natural disasters?
what about trees hanging over roadways
dead tree trunks lying dangerously along embankment and slopes
NEP going to do dredging in ravines?

NEP is not a sub-department of NEPO

    square pegs in round holes.

this sounds like words flying …..no clear thought process
election and changing candidates taking more space in skerrit head for him to think properly……i waiting to see de budget allocation for NEP
NEP doh have equipment for dat work so vote buying season is now on for small equipment
so this is PM Skerrit plan of Dominica being the first climate resilient nation in the world eh

I observed Dominica strong dredging rivers without any engineering sense…little to no supervision when compared to regular roadworks
just equipment moving material and scoring dollars
    nobody going to supervise
an open window to throw money?

Laziness at its finest. Now you want people in the various communities to do your job for you. where is public works? CREAD? Montreal MMC, Dominica Strong? to do the work they should be doing? Same thing for the electoral reform, you have gerald burton telling people we have to come and review a list for him to tell the committee who is dead and who isnt. NONSENSE!!! Do your damn work. the people are not engineers and technicians, they dont have the requisite machinery to “eliminate” hazards. The roads alone is a huge hazard in many areas. You want us to handle that for you? What about the Canefield Cliff that is waiting to come down on people ? handle that for you too?

I hope that the blocked slipper drain at Antrim will be high on the agenda. The drain, barely adequate at the best of times, was totally blocked a month ago by the relocated DOWASCO supply line. It is yet another civil engineering blunder at that beggars belief.

In times of heavy this drain carries a huge amount of water, including run-off from the road that leads to Cochrane. All land slippage at Antrim is water related and unless this drain is restated you can say goodbye to the recently surfaced road.

I have repeatedly brought my concern to the attention of DOWASCO.

      July 2, 2019

They want you to handle that problem yourself Mr. Burnett. Then they will take the credit for the job if you do it better than they could have. I can hear him now, “MY brothers and sisters, under the dlp, we have been able to fix the road issue at Antrim that has been plaguing us for almost ten years now. Lennox Linton and the UWP blablablablabla..” (you know he cannot open his mouth without calling the opposition in his talk). Like when you are trying to tackle a nice girl that has a boyfriend, but the only way you think you can stand a chance is if you discredit the boyfriend to her face while boasting about yourself. (only certain kinds of men/people do that by the way – weak insecure ones)

The hazards that should be eliminated are you , mello mills, joseph john, facially challenged capitolin, marvillin breedy, dunce roselia magloire, kid on the block Tony, someone and mammy.
All the money you have wasting to have clappers in antigua use it to eliminate hazards.

DNO, how can you allow them to advocate “termination” of people on your site. can this be incitement for violence like Norman Shillingford shouting “take them out” on Q 95.

ADMIN: Don’t twist the facts, the term used was “eliminate” not “terminate” it can also be used in the sense of “eliminate them at the polls”. This is a common expression used in politics in general and by both major political parties in Dominica.

      • Joseph John
        July 1, 2019

DNO, why the semantics ? Eliminate/terminate same thing. The elimination of poverty or the termination of poverty …… When you delete postings you do not like is that eliminate or terminate….yes, fatal violent disappearance. .

ADMIN: You are, in fact, the one playing semantics here.

The word that was used was eliminate as in “remove” as in the Calypso elimination round. No reference was made to violent removal in the OP (original post), only you spoke about removing people violently as you have done in some of your previous comments that were not published.

We won’t allow you to twist the facts to suit your point.

The verb terminate is generally used, at least in the U.S.A. to fire, sack, or let go of personnel/employees that are surplus to requirement, are deficient in their performance or in some way have lost the confidence of their employer. To terminate someone in this context may well be very appropriate and applicable.

Thanks Dominican. Thanks for educating this blind, disloyal, failed Skerrit supporter. Our ailing and poverty Dominica is not this clowns first priority, it is all about one man, a failed man called Skerrit.
Skerrit just talks, talks, and is all over the place, because they have worked out that Skerrit and his failed corrupt Labour government are falling away quickly. We need this political clown Skerrit to go, get lost and take your failed incompetent 19 ministers with you. We had enough of this corrupt Circus despicable Labour Government and failed Prime Minister. All you blind Loyalty, stay away from this political posin created by Skerrit and his bind loyalists people like Astaphan and many others behind closed doors. Skerrit must Go, Failed labour must Go. Get Out, Get Lost.
We welcome Hon. Lennox Linton and his highly committed professional team in the UWP.

@ Dominican…..DNO insist that the word in play is “eliminate” not terminate like in terminator. When an employee is being fired their employment is being terminated not eliminated. If their position is eliminated it cease to exist. If I am eliminated it mean I cease to exist. That what mobsters do to erase (eliminate) their enemy. When Shillingford, Martin and James we eliminated by fire in the early 60’s that was elimination from life. When Hitler murdered million of Jews in gas chambers during WW2, they were eliminated from life. VIOLENTLY. When the allies lost thousands of soldiers on D-Day 1945 on the beaches of Normandy France they were eliminated VIOLENTLY.
I have not check any sources for the meaning of both words , but depended on common usage.
some are using “cool out” now as rewards or favours. It use to mean be quite or go away as “chill or chill out.
          As I said, common usage.

So PM Skerrit, don’t you see those huge canals in the roads to be repaired? Huge pot holes all over. A nuisance to the communities and a hazard to the road users. Then we can talk about unblocking drains etc..

The idea is a good one but does the PM have to interject himself to hog the credit and make it all about him. Simple, let NEPO make the announcements. Why does this man want to micromanage and dominate everything in Dominica? Every single thing Roosevelt Skerrit does, no matter how apolitical it may appear, is meticulously planned for political expedience. As the time for general election draws closer expect more enticements, giveaways, heated rhetoric against the opposition, more chicanery, shenanigans, subterfuge and skullduggery from this relentlessly corrupt regime and its egomaniacal leader.
