BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Freundel Stuart is the new Prime Minister of Barbados. Stuart was appointed this morning to succeed David Thompson who died of cancer related complications some time after 2:00 am today at his private residence.
The new PM, who was the attorney general and deputy prime minister, was appointed by the country’s Governor-General. He was sworn in today, hours after Thompson’s passing.
According to a Caribbean360 news publication, the decision was made at a meeting of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) at party headquarters, shortly after Thompson’s death.
While Thompson traveled for medical purposes, Stuart had acted in the capacity of Prime Minister. He was also serving in that position at the time of Thompson’s death.
mmm when is your brith day i nedddd to know 4 a project
@RC: most comments were in response to the one called true. they were simply educating him /her.. showing her how to look at and anaklyze a situation intellectually.
and you ….i tink you are doing the same thing that you are accusing people of
Hello All,
See how foolish we have become thinking only along arguments strictly along party lines and making a mole hill out of every opportunity just to lay blame on Skerrit for every wrong in Dominica. The Bajans discuss issues and national development and are able to act decisively that is when it matters, whilst we keep up a daily charade of blaming Skerrit for everything. Our stuation and the Bajans cannot be compared, although credit must eb given to the Labour Party for maintaining our democracy in tact when we were confronted with two deaths within five years.
Dominicans let us rise above party. We are Dominicans before we are party. We allwant to see our coutry prosper. It cannot prosper if our every action is driven by partisan expediency.
@Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque</ REALIZE what you mean now, feel stupid right now. u are indicating that it was too quick right?
@Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque: wa go franscico ….long time
please dont talk about jfk death because it does not even compare. the events THAT YOU described just futher shows how JFK’s death was a conpiracy. jthe guy who killed JFK”s assasin was dying of cancer…..he loved the president so much or was he part of the conpiracy.
There is a big difference, so-called true. If you read carefully, you would have known that Mr. Freundel Stuart was made the Deputy Prime Minister when the DLP came into office in 2008 and was Acting Prime Minister at time of the the death of Mr. Thompson. So, it is not surprising he was appointed the new PM. Skerrit was not even a senior Minister when he lobbied for the postion of Prime Minister.
@true: And?????Let’s see if the new P.M of B/dos will do all the “sort” transfer land without paying legal fees simultanously withthe transaction. He is a lawyer and will certainly nor need anAttidore to do cochonie for him.Let’s see how slow he will move to go into corruption. mange’ ceour ou.
De man body do even get cold yet, bajans calling for elections ! Bondie look tweet! But on a serious note, he shoudl have stepped down a long time ago. It was clear he was dying when he called in the GIS to do his Bio. I guess dyin in office has merits for his family.
Hon Pierre Charles death was sudden while Hon David Thompson’s death was not. There was time to discuss and plan. They had to think of the ” what if factor” Come on! The man was suffering from cancer. Discussions had to have been held. It is possible he himself was even involved in the decision making!
@true: stop being foolish,,,,they already knew he was gonna die,,,besides if u read they said that mr. stuart was already acting in that position,,,so that was something planned b4 the death,,,whereas when pierro died which regardless of his known condition took us by surprised,,,,skerrit,,,senior counsel n other cronies basically hijacked the party
@The man was already acting Prime Minister. That was not the case when Pierro died. there was no sucession plan in place and so all the confusion with Brother O, Ambrose and the rest. Dont try to say that they are both of the same .The Bajans did it well.
………….. WE NEED A DEPUTY !!!!!!!
“The new PM, who was the attorney general and deputy prime minister, was appointed by the country’s Governor-General.” ……..
One must admire the way real government operates and functions. Top of the line administrative excellence ; effective organizational structure ….. and CONTINUITY…………….
We on the other hand are cursed with a parade of clowns each time our Prime Disaster disappears overseas to party or receive gifts,
At a time when that guy is facing more court appearances WE NEED A DEPUTY
IN THESE TIMES A DEPUTY ESSENTIAL ………. there’s Timothy; Darroux; McIntyre; Douglas who are all trained professionals
A DEPUTY ESSENTIAL
@true:
YOU SHOW VERY POOR TASTE …….. OR AT BEST INABILITY TO RECOGNIZE THE SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHALK AND CHEESE ..
PLEASE ………… at that level of SERIOUS PROFESSIONAL GOVERNANCE where things are done DECENTLY AND IN ORDER; where the air is fresh and clean; and we bask in the sunlight of CONSTITUTIONAL PROTOCOL.
PLEASE DON’T SPOIL SUNDAY BREAKFAST ; DO LEAVE THE STENCH OF LABASS WHERE IT BELONGS far from this sombre occasion.
I know you can’t help it … BUT .. DON’T FART AT THE BANQUET TABLE .. ITS NOT GOOD MANNERS
@true:
When President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas Texas; I believe on November 22nd in 1962, or there about, correct me if I am wrong, While he was in the car soaking in his blood, Linden Johnson, vice President at that time boarded an aircraft in Texas, heading to the Capital Washington DC., along with the Chief Justice of the United States who swear him in as President of the United States.
Kennedy’s body was still in the Streets of Dallas Texas, when Linden Johnson became President!
Which event shall history consider quicker?
Just an observation.
Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
that was fast and they accuse our prime minister for acting too fast when our beloved pierro died. That is the way things must go
I know the island cannot stay without a P.M however I hope the new P.M will allow Dominicans to have their VISAS so they can come up and see us here in England which is our biggest problem at this moment when it comes to travellings. I sent our sincere blessings to the Entire Barbados from all of us Dominicans here in England.
Condolences to the people of Barbados. Wishing them a speedy recovery from the lost of their Prime Minister. We the people of Dominica know what is it to to lose a Prime Minister, for we have been there before. Please keep the faith and hold strong.I pray for god’s guidance and blessings for new Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.
On a lighter side when I was young my grandmother always reminded me that a person white patches was a person of wisdom and experiences. So based on my granny’s theory I am left to believe that the Hon. PM will take Barbados through.
I must also say that Bim is my favorite country after Dominica my land of my birth.
God bless the people of Barbados in their time of grief.
