Danny Lugay apologizes for Soufriere statements

Lugay said he is sorry for statements said at the UWP meeting

Senator Danny Lugay has apologized for statements made at a United Workers Party public meeting in Soufriere last week saying they were “unbecoming” of him.

At the meeting, which was held on July 3, Lugay said that that there are some people who “deserve to die” for keeping Dominica back.

“If I wasn’t a believer, I would take out some people in Dominica, you know,” he stated. “My heart is different and that is why I wouldn’t do it, but it have some people that deserve to die in Dominica. Honestly, when you see the sort of things that they do to keep back Dominica.”

Lugay has been under fire from the government with prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, describing the statements as “extraordinary”.

Skerrit said he believes the police should question Lugay “on what are his plans because those statements are very serious statements.”

But on Tuesday morning Lugay said at the meeting he had made “certain statements targeted at questionable behaviors which I considered to be harmful to the public interest” and they were “unbecoming of me and inconsistent with my personal beliefs, conviction and the policy of UWP Team Dominica.”

He apologized without reservation for the statements.

“I sincerely regret the statements and without reservation apologize to the people of the Soufriere Constituency in particular, and the people of Dominica in general,” the UWP senator said.

He further stated that he is deeply sorry for the inconvenience the statements may have caused his family, his constituents of Roseau North, colleagues in the UWP and the Parliament of Dominica.

“I ask for the forgiveness of all. I pledge my continued commitment to serve the people of Roseau North and the people of Dominica,” Lugay said.

We only use this forum to attempt to give biased view when it is convenient for us. How often have we heard persons in the current administration blurting outrageous and outlandish remarks? We are being hypocrites. I am not condoning what Mr. Lugay’s remark, however I will commend him for being man enough to apologise. He said what others have said in curtained words. Wrong is wrong, regardless of the source.

This latest faux pas from Lugay just goes to show that all of us are human and are capable of error and poor judgement. All of us.

When we look back over the last ten years and recall the various foibles, faulty allegations, and malicious aspersions that have been spoken in public by politicians or aspiring politicians, none of the politicians is in a position to judge the other. None of them.

Vote wisely at the next general elections.

Dominicans should be relentless in calling for a proper apology and then resignation. In the US no congressman nor senator would survive this vile utterances. It is time for him to make his exit, he demonstrates that he can’ t change. But what a quagmire this will create, will the leader place himself up in Mr. Luguay constituency if he resigns?

People are saying well done Mr. Lugay for his late apologise, and that came only after the prime minister brought it out to the Dominican public. Am still waiting on the UWP team to say something, guess Linton cannot find the right words to say. If some of us call ourselves Christians, words like that should never come from our mouths. Still not going to judge the man, his fruits will sell him out………………….

Mr. Linton was on Q95 with Matt to give his side of the story. He even offered an apology on behalf the UWP Team Dominica. Remember the words, No law, no Constitution”and the words , “go to hell,” we have not yet received an apology. Better late then never.

@Amazing Linton is one of Dominicas most articulate MAN, so if you DOTISH go find a doctor. Whenever he speaks he used the right words.
I would also like to commend DANNY for being a man, and being able to apologise to the people. I hope Skerrit learns a lesson from those who are willing to serve us like Danny. You must go search for Skerrit and tell him why Danny is seen in such a good light by acknowledging that he is wrong and apologising.
Didn’t Skerrit send you to Hell THREE TIMES? He also told a slave like you that “Man to Man he can Marsh Up UWPites”. You are such a clown you must have been clapping and screaming like a comic. SHAME ON YOU! YOUR SOO TEE WERT!

Has any one envision a scenario where Linton, Lugay and fountain is meeting a delegation from the IMF & world Bank where it agencies are saying that a restructuring program is a must for Dominica and the trio is not happy or in agreement, oh how frightening that environment would be, with the sentiments already expressed by these men I would be very fearful for the IMF & World Bank team.

As it is written, ‘The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked’……. Jeremiah 17:9. Why is it that some people feel that they hold the monopoly rights to insult, abuse (verbal, physical, mental, emotional etc.), ridicule, induce pain and suffering to others (In a nutshell render pure evil onto others) and they feel good about their behaviours and they honor themselves for doing so, they have even convinced themselves that their victims must lie down and play dead, these people do not feel that there are any consequences for their actions and decisions taken. Yet if and when the truth is spoken about them base on their actions and behaviours; by their victims or anyone else, or they are given a taste of their own medicine then they become upset, angry, agitated, defensive, portray themselves as victims, demand sympathy from others and even becomes violent. While we all must pray for the grace of God daily to be able to deal with what we are faced with on a daily basis; we should always ask God to help us that we do render evil deeds with good.
God himself said that he had regretted that he made man. Genesis 6:6. God was grieved at heart when he made that statement. MAN IN HIS SIGHT WAS SO EVIL AND WICKED.
The devil wants to correct sin… a reminder that is not a position that the devil will ever be able to hold. Man may deceive himself and others thinking that he is God and he is untouchable/immortal but that position is also only for and will only be held by Jehovah God Almighty. We have seen the demised of those who thought so……. Sadam Hussain, Osama Binladin, Gaddathie to name a few.
The DLP and it’s supporters needs to examine itself and turn away from the unrighteousness it continues to dispense on the people of Dominica because evil cannot prevail over good. It may last for awhile but will soon be repaid according to it deeds ……The wicked will be cut off by the sword…, thus said the Lord. Ezekiel 21:3.
here is a season for everything and the unrighteousness will not be there forever. God will soon destroy this system of things.
NOT because one does not believe in GOD or may not acknowledge his word as true, it will not change the fact that God exit and that his words are true. He will do what he says he will do and he will fulfill his promises because he is a God who cannot lie. Numbers 23:19.
I pray for my Country and it’s people that evil will not reign in the land, I pray that the Lord God almighty will be acknowledge and will be allowed to reign above all in the land. Material and physical possessions will soon perish and disappear. I pray that the spiritual eyes of the people will be open to see the love, beauty and glory of God. John 3:16 ‘For God so love the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believe in him shall not perish but have everlasting Life.’

Wow, religion can do strange things to the mind, it sad to read some of the absurdities repeated and believed by you. Why are you using your religious belief as the focul point to give credence to support your Political beliefs regarding the state of The Country. You have made statements regarding God and his regret about making man. It is very sad to believe such thing as a Human being and worst of attributing this to God. The ultimate form of ignorance is not knowing something, it is the refusal to find out about the things you do not know,as to your prayers very nonsensical.

It is amazing. After reading the statements made by readers of DNO, I ask myself how can so many people be so blind, so miss-lead.
Mr Lugay made a statement and others took it to heat, mainly PM Skerro. Every blind follower jumped on PM train and started to bash Lugay and UWP for the statement, demanding an apology….but wait..who demanded an apology from PM or/and any member of his party for all the statements they have been making over and over. The PM has insulted Dominican’s over and over, and what has the public demand? NOTHING. Seems when PM speaks who is not in favor will feel the long end of the stick.
Dominicans are just damn two face. I feel sorry for all these blind PM followers, for when he is gone they will be lost. Why haven’t apologies been demanded for all these vulgar and violence statements made by the DLP et al?

Please take note. This man has admitted and apologized fir his error; this is a remarkable thing for a politician to do. How many times has our Prime Minister and his band of merry men apologized for their many misdemeanours?

The Labour Party treats us with contempt. This is one of the many reasons why they need to be voted out at the next election.

  17. July 8, 2014

DNO I spoke at the first of this message but you did not accept it–but I have something to say as well–I hope that you will allow the audience to hear my voice this time

The apology of Danny Lugay is not sincere–he is not sorry or sincerely regrets what he said–but he simply tried to clear his conscience and to brush off the dirt which he spilled on his own integrity. “For as a man thinks in heart so is he”

His idea of being a “believer” the reason why he would not (kill)–take out some people from his environment–caused me to question what kind of “believer” is he; for a person who believes in God is guided by His Holy Spirit. And Holy Spirit is the Person from conscience who teaches him to rebuke wicked, evil, or sinful thoughts which enters the ground of that person\s mind–so that those seeds will not be formed and produced–especially not in words. For Life and death comes by the spoken word.

However, not only did Danny Lugay entertained those thoughts of his mind–he also executed them by his spoken words–according to one blogger here, “spoken words do not return once they are executed”–that is the reason the Word of God warns us to be careful with that tongue of ours.

And those words of our mouth are more powerful than any physical weapon, and any action of goodness–for words will kill a person spiritually, and “a broken spirit dries the bones”; goodness can be done without Love .

The thought of and spoken words of killing is just as bad as doing the action–but thanks to God, He will guide and protect His chosen people; those who call for evil and wickedness will know the rewards of their call–an apology that is spoken with the lips and not from the heart is just as fruitless and empty as no apology at all.

But Danny Lugay’s apology is simply–his word of mouth; it did not come from his heart.

Parry, I would encourage the Prime Minister to take a leaf from the book of Mr. Lugay. Not many Dominicans including the Prime Minister is prepared to accept responsibility for there wrong doings. For instance, if the Prime Minister had acknowledged he has made a foefar when he made the statement concerning, “no law no constitution,” that statement would not be following him like a bad scent.

DNO Please allow me space in your forum to express my view on my birth place DA.
Although I hold strong feelings in regards to persons office on island even the much considered and held in high regard by many(Dame EChar les) I do believe the problem has its roots in our triple standards. and to a large degree. Some folk fall for pedigree others for lack of it.
When people of humble birth get into office they manifest from whence they came. ej.Our first P.M review 1975-79. Then the DFP elitist party, then those who lacked everything expected in that office.
When a P.M with some studiation addresses his nation on his first Independence anniversary in office and claims to be on stage and inchargeand claim people don’t like what he looks like and where he comes from, manifests an inferiority complex whih his education should have defined him different. When a Minister suggests a smoked herring breakfast for invitees(regional at that) what does one think of ? Pedigree for sure. Think it was Mr.Boyd who said in June of 1995:” the horses are out of the stable”
Many took offense Then came those we have now after the death of Rosie and Pierro. and just screwed up everthing even calling themselves DLP when the neos took control.
The current P.M is a joke remember he did not apologise for the Land Transfer when Matt in the M at morning wrote $5K salary million $ assests? Danny was emotional and went off at a tangent Danny had the COJONES to apolgise today. Skerrit is yet to. and DA population finds all faults in Danny and the boy from VC lack the cojones ( written in lowercase little balls.

Sorry. This is not an “insult.” This is a vile attempt to foment and encourage violence against the subject of Luga’s angst, Alick Lawrence, Senior Counsel.

All the commentators on here want to forget that this man was particular in naming the one person whom he detests for obstructing his wish. He did not limit his comments to calling the man obstructionist, or any other pejorative befitting someone blocking your way. No, that would not be enough.

So incensed is Mr. Luga with those like Alick who would stand in his way that he would like to see them be killed. He said as much. Alick is amomg the “some” Danny would liquidate. Only, he is a believer.

    July 8, 2014

I am amazed or should I that some people exalt wrongdoing. So he apologized. What is that? One of the things that come not back is “The Spoken Word.”
If it were the other way around, the Party you do not support, I visualize what some of you would have stated. There would be no end to your criticisms and other uncomplimentary words. But it is someone whom you support, you are even complimenting and exalting him for apologizing. Well, well, some of you are something else. Some unfair people.
All he should have been told officially is, “Thank you” from those whom he offended, if they felt like it.
From now on I hope they will all button their lips if they think of a derogatory word and refrain from them. Speak your mind, address the issue and do not deviate from what you planned to say.

So I am calling on Danny Lugay to step down. You said it twice, you meant it. It is only because it has become an embarrassment you are apologizing. Be an even bigger man and please step down. Only by stepping down you will have shown that you are sincere and taking responsibility for your action. The public is waiting!!!!

Too many people play they are God, make such statements and take the Law into their hands. Someone or some people might follow-up on what he stated. He should pay for this.

Now Mr. Lugay, you made the statement twice so the second time would remove all doubts of it being a mistake. I do not recall such a strong statement even from the most radical of activists in Dominica, (i stand to be corrected). • The Facts
      July 8, 2014

He will not apologize. He will go to his grave before he apologizes and you know where such souls end up in eternity.
There is something I find with some people. They make derogatory/insulting statements and when informed, they never apologize. I find this with many people who regard themselves as practicing religious people. They are proud as a peacock and will never admit their fault much more to apologize and genuinely say, “I am sorry.” Wicked hearts I would state.
We are aware Our Lord said, “Unless we become as little children, humbling ourselves, we will never enter the Kingdom. of Heaven:”
Do they not know that as they call themselves believers? Holy Scripture tells us: “Humble ourselves before God (before man) and He will exalt us in due time.”
The Lord needs to cleanse those who will not do that. If they are not cleansed, consider where their souls will end up.
Need I state as I have previously, St. Paul said, “Nothing defiled will enter Heaven?”
People must root out all evil thoughts, words, statements and actions from their hearts if they ever hope to please God and to appease him. Threatening anyone under any circumstances is totally wrong.
Some say Dominica needs a change of Government. I do not see that. What Dominica is in dire need of, it is a change of evil and proud hearts.
Those who judge and condemn the PM will themselves be judged two-fold and will condemn themselves. They are heaping burning coals on their heads. Therefore, from now on, everyone cease your charade of derogatory statements against the PM and his Party. You are no better. Let God be the judge; not you.
Come Lord Jesus. Come and purify your world.

I applaud Mr. Lugay for apologizing, however, there needs to be more ramifications. Anyone seeking to represent people must be very careful when addressing a gathering. The Senator should be terminated immediately! A clear message should be sent out, that this behavior is unacceptable. It is good to forgive, however, we must proceed with caution in order to avoid future damage. Mr. Lugay must pay the price, he has inflicted his own injury and so he must suffer the consequences. He should be dismissed asap.

      July 8, 2014

I do believe that some people are imagining things and also exaggerating. Have you considered their approach? It is how they approach the PM. They probably do not do so respectfully.
When they feel changes are needed, their approach must be respectful. When they make suggestions, they must await his response and know that not all suggestions and demands are feasible and can be approved.
You cannot force a Prime Minister, a leader of a country to match to your tune. This is what they have to take into consideration and learn.
Consider children being disobedient, rude, disrespectful and demanding of their parents. Those who have children should fully know what I am trying to relay here.
I have been accessing this Website for approximately two years now. The comments I have read against the PM, calling him and his government corrupt, etc., is shocking and they are getting away with it. With that type of attitude and approach, do not blame the PM if you find him indifferent. I am certain he is not being that.
They must comprehend that he is the PM and must be respected. You must wait for his response. You cannot boss him and force him to do your will.
Some of you need to learn godly virtues of discipline, respect and humility. Did you not learn this at home and in school? Furthermore, Holy Scripture teaches us about it. God is taking note of your general actions.

What the PM meant is, you lack discipline. I have deduced this by the comments of those who do not support DLP. Therefore, do not twist and turn what the PM stated to suit your mentality and exalt Lugay.
Lugay must confess to God for what he said and ask his forgiveness. There is a price, a penalty for making such statements which are words of hatred. They are not words of discord and frustration.
Do you think God will exonerate him? By no means for as a believer he should have known better. God knows if his apology is sincere. He has to answer to God for that.

It is water down the drain which has already flowed into the river and to the sea. Where is it? You will never know. Therefore, do not raise a storm in a teapot and with your imaginings..

We accept your apology. That”s a man. We are proud of you Mr Lugay. Thanks for showing them that you are a man. However we just find that the Prime Minister is to double standard and Hypocrite for calling a press conference and for even making untrue statements saying no one in his party has ever behaved or said such things. Mr PM do you have memoire poul. or you deliberately forget that in lagoon at you alls victory meeting after winning the court case when the lawyer on your team etc said to go find them in all holes Marigot, Salisbury and droowne them get rid of them etc you forget and you yet to comment about it. why Mr PM please call a press conference and tell us.

I am glad that mr lugay apologized but the PM and other members in his party has made sooooo many statements that were despicable to the ppl of D/A and never own up to it by saying that they are sorry so that tells you that our PM is a boy and hasn’t grown up as yet .Men take responsibility but boys are like chicken .Danny you did the right thing You were raised well. I give you all the respect for doing what is right.

Those who are raised well must show it by their life and their actions in words and deeds. They do not, as a rule deviate from such discipline and moral teachings.
I think he is influenced by the attitude of Lennox Linton which is to be expected. Birds of a feather flock together.
Show me your friends and I will show you who you are. What comes out of the mouths of people project who and what they are. Also through their fingers on the computer keyboard.
It rubs off on others who associate with them. No getting away from that. In order to change, they must disassociate themselves with such people.

        Dear The Facts
You are so pompous and sanctimonious.

I am sure that you are not whiter than white.

This man has grown ten feet in my estimation. He was man enough to admit and apologize for his mistake. When has the P M or any of his Yes Men shown such gumption?
Mr Lugay, you are what Dominica needs. Bravo!

Let this apology be an example to ALL politicians who, unwittingly or not, make statements not in keeping with the expectations of the people of Dominica.

Accordingly, the people of Dominica are expecting several other apologies from DLP politicians. They know, and we know, who they are…

But wait a minute, didn’t he also say that he said the same thing in an earlier meeting in Fond Cole? Why didn’t he also apologize for that? It is clear that this apology isn’t sincere and the man meant every word he said. The police need to keep serious survellance on these blue guys, starting with the leader

The first time it must have been overlooked. The second time is not regarded as a mistake.
It became a habit which, if not checked, could culminate into something worst as it is getting closer to election.
Did DNO post his words the first time? I cannot recall reading it. Unless I missed it.

    Senator Lugay apologizes for
    His Miss-statement .
“Whist many Dominican politicians have from time to time “crossed the line” in what they have said, rarely have they shown the political maturity and the humility, to apologize unconditionally. Senator Danny Lugay, in his unconditional apology for as statement made by him, which he deemed inappropriate, has raised the standard expected of Dominican politicians, and must be commended. It takes courage, maturity, humility and sincerity, for one to make an apology privately; much more so, for a public apology. My respect and admiration goes out to Senator Lugay, for the courage, maturity, humility, and sincerity, which he has demonstrated.”

Mr. Prevost you did not see any reason why Mr. Lennox Linton had to apologize for “rapist Ministers” statement, but you are quick to jump onthis one. No amount of public relations will absolve what was said twice.. It had to given the number of times and the intensity that goes with UWP plans to “get rid” of the government. So no amount of pontification about what a “good man Danny is for apologizing” will absolve him of his sins. He must do the honorable thing. His mindset, attitude and mental disposition to dealing with people who does not share his ideas is not required in Dominica. He represented his views and that of the UWP very well. I suppose his indirect call to “non-believers” to act has already been heard.

@ Mr Prevost, come on you know better than that, you and I know that this is a non genuine apology , Danny said it in a previous meeting ,he neither none of you realised it was wrong , he said again and it was still ok ,and I believe he would continue to say it, does it have to reach so far for some one to realise he did some thing wrong? Danny just opened up to ppl and let us know who he really is I think he was genuine by saying what’s on his mind, Team terrorist is what you all are.

Now thats a REAL man. Thank you Hon. Lugay for being the adult in the House Of Assembly.

Now I await apologies from Skerro, Reggie, Charlo, and others on the red team for all their insulting, threatening transgressions. BreezieMart is no more and people are out of jobs because of Charlo yet no apologies…I await earnestly! But be reminded that Change is on the way.

It takes a man to apologize. Unlike the people of the labour party when they make statements of this sort, the Prime Minister in particular does not do any damage control. He just sits back and do nothing. I just cant take the double standards.
