Dominicans add their voices to US presidential elections

As Americans line up at various polling stations across the continent to elect a new president Dominicans are divided over the political happenings up north.

Dominica News Online headed out to the streets of Roseau on Tuesday in an attempt to determine  what Dominicans thought of the elections.

“I am not concerned at all I know that Obama is there to stay, Americans know what’s good for them,” one young man told Dominica News Online.

Another individual seemed more enthusiastic about the elections and compared the current American President to that of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit. “He has a charm just like my PM … he knows what’s good for us God Bless Obama,” she said.

“It’s a tight race but Obama is gonna win, once he wins Ohio which we all know he will, he’s definitely gonna win,” another lady said.

On the other hand some people appeared uninterested in the election and felt that it had no effect on their lives. “Well I live in Dominica; whether Obama wins again or someone else gets the job I don’t see how it affects me. I don’t follow all those political things,” one man said.

A vendor added her voice, “I don’t know much about it but I figure the people will do what they think is best for them.”

When asked why she thought the election was important to Dominica a teenager said, “it affects us because we are a small island, places like America basically rule the world, they have the money so they make the rules for example if they decide to raise taxes on certain things, the cost of living in Dominica also goes up since we rely on America whether we want to or not.”

“We depend on American television; we basically follow an American lifestyle, therefore if they elect a President who is not for the people places like Dominica is in trouble,” she said.

The polls to determine the new president of the United States of America will close Tuesday evening.

America will decide whether President Barack Obama gets a second term or Republican Mitt Romney will become the new head of state.

You people (you know who you are) should use technology for the better and not the bad. Marcus Garvey is surely turning in his grave right now with this wasting of such resources to broaden evil. We are our greatest enemy, and thus the reason we keep heading down the drains instead of out of the gutter. The enemy does not have to attack us anymore since we do him a favor and stab each other in the back. Where have our dignity, pride, charity, love, courtesy and respect for each other gone? Why is it that when we disagree we end up ALWAYS HATING each other? UNITY of the African Diaspora is our only chance of redeeming ourselves of these perpetrated evils that can’t seem to be shaken off. We are demoralized to the point of shame and disgust. This behavior is ridiculous and debasing.

People are fools and the controllers know it. Anyone who voted for either of the puppets in the puppet show has no idea of what the real agenda is. They are one in the same in what they are promoting. Obama takes the lead in the President that has involved the U.S. in the most undeclared wars while simultaneously being awarded a peace prize. How ironic is that.
Most people are under mind control and have no idea of where this is all leading. There will be a major financial collapse in the near future. And if you think that the government is going to save you…….think again and look what it did for Katrina victims and Sandy victims. Nothing.

There is need for greater education in global diplomacy. Just look at Hilary Clinton’s message to us during our Independence celebration. Didn’t we realize that she was soliciting our Dominican votes? And rightfully so! All my family members in the US voted for Obama. Great! We need more substance in the discourse in why a democratic president will benifit the caribbean more than the Republican president.

DNO give a chance to explain to the ‘ignorant’ ones why neither romney or obama can save the economy…. why the printing of money from thin air by the privately owned federal reserve will cripple the u.s.a….

under the eight year Bush administration, the national deficit grew from $5.7 trillion to $9.1 trillion. That’s a 60% increase.

During the (less than) four years of Obama’s presidency, the national debt has soared to $16.2 trillion. That’s 78% increase.

The debt is increasing now on an exponential curve.

How do you pay back all that debt? Especially when you have to pay interest on it?

You either debase the currency, or you default. To debase the currency, you print more money and flood the market with diluted dollars.

The Fed has been doing this in earnest since 2009, and it hasn’t helped the economy recover. It’s probably kept americans out of an “official” recession, but we don’t think the 60 million people out of work care too much about “official” status.

Even a 6th grader can tell you the economy is broken.

Continuing with a policy of money printing will (eventually) cause runaway inflation.

Defaulting on the debt (or restructuring it) will cause massive deflation and another depression.

Neither candidate has put forth a plan that adequately deals with the problem. Frankly, we don’t think there is a candidate that could.

Romney’s plan may be more austere than Obama’s. But it is only a plan to reduce the defecit spending. It doesn’t actually reduce the defecit itself.

In other words, Romney promises he will grow the debt at a little slower pace than Obama.

    Big deal!

So at the end of four years he’ll have a $21 trillion dollar debt instead of a $25 trillion dollar debt?

An economic crash is coming our way, and people are acting gullible. debating about skin colour, DNO next time put out a post asking MOTS to get in touch with u all for an interview on such topics. u all have a right to seek out informed people instead of those street stalkers who make the rest of us look dumber than dumbo…. how i detest when they put skerrit n obama in the same sentence… lucky one haven’t said that in front of me…. we fighting on sight… i will knock the stupidity off your brains lol

I dont votE colour or looks. I vote for progress. For those who voted Labour in 2009, what was the reason? For Dimples. Where has Labour taken the country? To be one of the poorest in the Caribbean. What are they doing to the people? Insulting them: “Go to Hell”, ‘It’s not none of your dam business’, Man to Man we will Marsh them up, etc. How did Labour deal with the unemployment rate.It is now higher. What did Labour do to agriculture? Kill it. With tourism? Less arrivals. With loan money? waste $27 000 000 on a State Evil. With our institutions? Kill them., and a million other things.
I DONT VOTE COLOUR OR LOOKS.

Met yo,are you serious, despite Obama’s battering by Mr.Romney during the first debate, Mr.Obama didn’t show cowardice like Skerrit who is afraid of a debate,he did his home work and came back very strong.Skerrit is afraid of debates and press conferences. Please dont compare Skerrit to Mr.Obama. Mr. Obama has received lots of criticisms from the press because of the manner he handled the attack on the Lybia embassy. Recently, Skerrit left the country to address the people of one the islands in the Caribbean and business men in the United States,he has returned and up to time of writing, the press appears to be afraid to ask him to comment on the trips, mind you, it was the taxes from the people of Dominica that paid for the trips. Therefore, if he possesses any kind of charm,he must stand up like man and emulate the high standards of statesmanship like Mr. Obama.

@ Doc Love… But you have to be real… Can Skerrit Debate? This would be public embarrassment? This would be a public shame.
No wonder his acolytes keeps on insulting us, by saying Dominica does not have the infrastructure for debate. For this and several several severl other reasons i cannot suppoert our present government. It’s the worse thing that has happened to Dominica,

Doc. Love I was highlighting what DNO reported and then telling them to please not put Obama in their commess. What does that mean? That I am not in favor of what DNO reported the person said. Gosh. Everyone on DNO know by now that I do not support Skerrit.

One more thing…i saw an idiot talk about 18-3 and college vote. Boss, why allu not sticking to allu kind? It is naked hypocrisy to support Skerrit and Obama at the same time. Oil and Water that we, hahahahaha
