Dominica’s fourth People’s Parliament

MRD's Sam Raphael

The Movement to Restore Democracy (MRD) and the Dominica Citizen’s Forum will host Dominica’s fourth “People’s Parliament” on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 6:30pm at the Peoples Park in La Plaine.

This People’s Parliament will feature informative discussions on the political, economic and social issues of our time. Interactive presentations will be made by competent national and local leaders.

Come out and hear the boycotting UWP MP’s explain their side of the unfolding parliamentary crisis. What is the real agenda of the speaker of the house and the government of the day? What is happening to our national economy? What is happening to agriculture in the east? Where is Dominica heading to? These are some of the questions that will be addressed at the fourth Peoples Parliament this Thursday in La Plaine.

You, the general public, are invited to hear and to share your views on the important issues of the day.

The Movement to Restore Democracy and the Dominica Citizens Forum are civil society committees which are dedicated to the promotion of democracy, the rule of law and other good governing practices in Dominica. The opposition members of parliament are engaged in a boycott of parliament to register their displeasure with the unlawful manipulation of the electoral process which resulted in an overwhelming Dominica Labor Party victory in the December 18, 2009 general election.

The Peoples Parliament is held from time to time at different locations around the island as an alternative forum to ensure the survival of vibrant debate during this period of political crisis.

Though i support the DLP government i support people like Sam Raphael and others who contiue to bring to the attention of our leaders the many problems we face on a daily basis. However let me hasten to say i do not support their motive or the mrd. However i believe we must continue to highlight the things that affect our country.

  4. June 8, 2010

Sam, you and your company has all the right to talk about the issues that are affecting us in

Dominica. Those who do support SOME of the Skerrite’s Regime defaults, need to hear about

them . For now we are not yet a communist state!

Again my people is Sam Raphael the problem? increased unemployment, decline of Agriculture, rise in crime and violence, increased child abuse cases, more and more poverty, issues of respect for our constitution are just some of the problems affecting Dominicans. Everybody has the right to Assemble, to belong to whatever organisation or political party he or she chooses. Everyone has the right to discuss issues of development with whoever he or she wishes to. Once the actions and associations are within the legal framework, what should you be afraid of. You should raise concerns about the importation of vegetables and many other food crops in this 21st century imported into our beautiful Nature Isle, land of abundant water and rich soil. Many of those crops Dominica could produce and with more nutritional value. Human beings are endowed with a brain so that we could think. Let us think positively and put Dominica first, instead of literally trying to chop off the heads of fellow Dominicans like yourselves who wish to continue to contribute to the overall development of the Nature Isle. Never have some of you belittle the foreigners who have done much harm to our country. Wouldn’t you all stop such rotten behaviour. Everyday like that day after day, is a barrage of bad tongue and dog eat dog attitude? Is there any light at the end of the tunnel for many of you? Only darkness surrounds your lives?

OnTheBrightSide, who imported vegies into D.A.? Who signed the import licences ? It’s a stinking shame that any minister of Government would give an import licence to any one to engage in such practices. But again thats what our private sector likes to do best. IMPORT.
And as for us Dominicans we must change our mentality. Why do we have such a large food import bill? Why do we import so many things that can be grown / produced right here at home?
We live in a free enterprise { capitalist } country but government must not allow people / companies to import such items as vegies into our country. We have the land people and plants are more than willing to grow .
Recently an Antiguan minister { government } said he would not sign any import documents to import into Antigua any thing that could be produced or is available in Antigua, THAT’S what our government should be doing to protect local agriculture . OUR young people must stip depending on government to do for them what they should and must do for themselves.

      June 9, 2010

I guess that’s what the next level is. The bad thing is that instead of Dominicans doing something about the root of the problem, they fertilize the root of the problem and try destroying anybody who can speak against it.
