Former Prime Minister and President of the United Workers Party (UWP) Edison James has alleged that he has learned of plans to assassinate him and that illegal wiretapping is currently being carried out on select individuals in Dominica.
James made the announcements at a UWP public meeting in Lagoon, Roseau last evening.
James said after learning of the plan to kill him he prepared a will.
In regards to the wire-tapping allegations, LIME Dominica’s General Manager Jeffery Baptiste told Matt in the Morning’s radio programme, in an invited comment, that LIME is not involved in tapping peoples phones and there is no such clause in the legislation that supports wire-tapping.

To be fair your comments and others like yours here in this forum has amused me more than I would have imagined, and might have done so even more if it was not for the serious nature of the matter. The matter I am talking about is the sullying of the name of the ruling government. I honestly don’t give two hoots about which political party steers Dominica forward as long as they are doinging a good job of it. Despite the fact that I am from Salisbury, I am of the opinion that this Labour Government has been doing a remarkable job of moving Dominica forward. I dare say that many other Dominicans shart this view also as is evident from the results of the last elections held a year ago. It is my opinion that as adults and people who have been reasonably well educated, we should seek political mileage in a far more mature way than the United Workers Party has been doing. I am in fact looking forward to the day when a robust opposition party will rise up from among our ranks to challenge the Labour party. Not because I think that they are failing in any way, because i don’t, but rather because I don’t want to see Dominica as a one party state ever. Of course the UWP needs to oppose certain things in the best of our interest, thats why they are the opposition. However to do so in a random, uncoordinated and totally immature manner does not lend clout to their cause. Tarnishing the name of your foes in order to diminish their numbers of sympathisers is something we did in primary school and should not even be considered at this level, let alone enacted.

Dominicans get real Mr James stated that he was informed by someone that he was due to be assasinated why did he not inform the police and NAME the individual who disclosed that information to him. Mr James and Brian Linton should be called in by the cops and questioned for withholding information about a possible crime.

While what you are saying is true, i still think we need agriculture. Where will the food for the tourist and us come from? I personally think that the people of before made us believe that agriculture is for people that did not make it in school, and have it as a dirty job. In truth agriculture has the potential to make you a millionaire. I wish i had acres of land to plant right now, then you would grudge what i have. Farmers need to start running their farms like businesses, do your accounting etc and show your kids and the youth that agriculture still has money. Besides all them older doctors, lawyers and engineers from the country still go back to their lands. When you become so called educated will you buy all your food?

When a politician is 67 years old and has spent more years in opposition than in government throughout his political carrier he begins to reflect at the things that made him once strong and the things that have made him lose political office and the fear of how history will remember him!!!
So for example Mr. James being in opposition and having a lot of time on his hands – not attending House of Assembly, holding People’s Parliament, calling poorly attended meetings and protests and all the other things he is doing, he has another 36 months to go over opportunities that he has missed, weaknesses he should have turned to strength and the things that made him PM at least once.
The bugging allegation was the strength of the UWP and James in the mid 1990s. So, why not use the same approach again? At least it made him PM once and brought the UWP in office!!! Never mind he had to pay the Dame over EC$77,000.00 for that lie when he lost the PM position.
There was never a good enough rebuttal by the DFP on this bugging allegation – no matter how the Freedom Party tried to explain their innocence and declare their innocence nobody wanted to hear – there is no smoke without fire was the UWP position and that flawed Freedom. The inquiry was of little consequence.
The real problem Mr. James has to sadly leave with is the fact that he did not take control of the Ministry of Finance when he was Prime Minister and secondly he was a poor government tactician when it was time to call his first election to defend his stewardship as Prime Minister of Dominica.
To be frank Mr. James was too soft and he spent too much time during the election campaign of 2000 and even 2005 defending members of the UWP in the eyes of the electorate that later turned against him and disappointed him in life and in opposition post election 2000 and 2005.
But Mr. James not fooling me with that death threats he is talking about. He just want sympathy and hoping when Skerrit calls election in April 2011, yes this year (News Flash: So all you doh know that up to now? Why you think dem man balling for Electoral reform and threatening to make Obama invade Dominica?) he can get many former supporters to come back in UWP and give him the 11 parliamentary seats he want to become PM again and for him to hand over PM to Mr. Green when he James turns 70 years old.
