Former Grenada PM to step down as party leader

Thomas Tillman

Former Prime Minister of Grenada, Tillman Thomas, has said he is prepared to step down as leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and work with any leader chosen by the party.

This after the NDC, under his leadership, suffered a crushing defeat at polls held on the island on Tuesday.

“The leadership is not something that I want to hold on to…once somebody comes forward, I am prepared to let that person take over the responsibility of leadership of the party,” Thomas told the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian.

According to Thomas he is prepared and committed to work with anyone who is in the leadership position to ensure the party is returned to power in the shortest possible time.

When asked to comment on the results of the election, Tillman told T&T Guardian that he was “disappointed but not daunted, because we have laid a very good foundation in the last four and a half years in terms of governance.”

He insisted, “We are going to regroup and come again.”

The New National Party (NNP), led by Dr. Keith Mitchell, defied all predictions and won decisive victories in virtually all 15 constituencies on the island.

Mybit can change his/her /it’s name to chicken bites like chicken nuggets.
VDNO..what do you mean that NNP won in virtually all 15 constituencies? Did they win all 15 constituencies, or did they not. The use of the word “virtually” suggests that NNP won almost all, or nearly all.

ADMIN: Didn’t you see the word “DECISIVE” in the story? Read again and you will understand. No time for spoon feeding.

Dominicans, when will we stop that foolish back biting and learn to work together? We keep on pointing finger… one one is offering any true and meaningful solutions to the problems facing us. I agree with the person who said that Mr Tillman is a man of integrity. Can we say the same of our local politicians? And on the question of Linton as fresh blood, in my opinion, he is no different from the bunch! And Thompson Fontaine, just another opportunist, looking out for himself. Check out his history with the Athletics Association and the Olympic Committee. We have very short memory in Dominica and that s why politicians will continue to manipulate us the way they do. Dominicans, wake up and be proactive in your country´s development and stop letting those idiots mess our country up! I have no remorse for my comments because they are all the same, red, blue, green or whatever…..

Mr. Edison James is carrying too much baggage. He must do the honourable thing and pass on the leadership to Dr. Thompson Fontaine. Norris Prevost and other need to give way to people like Lennox Linton and others. There are talented people ready to run for workers but they are not willing to follow Mr. James.

If Mr. James does not take heed it will be labour power again whenever election is called

Lennox Linton i think not. A lot of people would support UWP but becuz of linton they stay and watch from the sides. They want to see UWP take good action and not depend on linton endless stories. We want to know UWP plan for DCA, are we getting the airport? Better healthcare? etc what is the plan

      • Lol
        February 21, 2013

You r not serious. We don’t vote based on what the party has ‘ planned.’ Anybody who thinks need a serious head exam.

      February 21, 2013

Edison had earlier stepped down, but after 3 leaders Earl, Ron and Spags, there was a resounding call from all and sundry for him to return. so technically he was ‘forced’ to resume the leadership. so stop spreading your destructive propaganda!

Edison is not the problem as he always wins handsomely in his constituency. You people want a puppet leader in the UWP that u can come in and manipulate him the way you are doing with pm Skeritt. In the meanwhile the whole country suffers. so go ahead and thinmk is eddo you spiting, it is your children and grandchildren who will inherit the legacy of your foolish spite and jealousy.

He returned because Dominicans needs men of integrity to lead them. So far we do not have that.
