United Workers’ Party (UWP) candidate for the Soufriere by-election, Higgs Adams, has expressed confidence in his chances at victory.
At the UWP’s ‘Rally in the Colour Purple’, on Saturday, he stated that residents of Soufriere have made their support for his party known.
“We are going to win in this constituency! You know why we are going to win? Because the people in the Soufriere constituency have decided that no more, you cannot fool them anymore,” Adams said. “So, that is why they are sending a clear message this time around that we are going to win in this constituency.”
He reiterated a promise made to the people of the Soufriere constituency, saying: “please put your trust in me. I will never let you down.”
Adams pleaded for constituents’ support, to effect change within the constituency.
In the 2014 general election, Adams lost to recently-resigned Minister Ian Pinard, receiving 822 votes, while Pinard received 1,326 ballots.
The UWP candidate will be facing the Dominica Labour Party’s (DLP) Denise Charles in the by-election in that constituency, which will be held on June 7.
Can DNO tells us as a News Online Message Board a news item of much interest to Dominicans, what exactly is the statement made by a former leader of the UWP at their purple rally regarding supporters of the DLP and people waving or carrying the red flags. I would consider that news-worthy and one where people would not speculate but reported by professionals.

The Linton doctrine is talk about your opponent fault even though your fault is just as bad as theirs, and keep talking about it. Linton and the uwp does not have a tract record of the protection of children……. The former MP for Soufiere resigned as a member of cabinet and as MP. What do we have on the other side. Sikiri was removed as Deputy leader an was not allowed to be heard at mahaut convention but uwp still courting him as MP. If allu man ask him to resign and call for a by election in Roseau south and hold another purple rally. Then and only then will you all show you are honorable men. Ian took the moral high ground . Where is the uwp on that moral scale?

Higgs Adam we know and have known for many years; but who is that Denise Charles? We don’t know her at all man. Is she a foreigner that got a free ride on AIR PANAMA? Or better yet, does she have any account in Panama? Is she a friend of any ne wit accounts in Panama? I hear she is not a Dominica and that scares me because when she gets what she looking for she will just go hide it in a Panama bank.

Skerritis speaking FRENCH but was wise enough to give birth to his two children in the US so they could learn English and would not have any problem entering a US hospital if they have the flu. But such is not the case with most of us.

Sam, I am a supporter of the UWP but unfortunately your hope is like that of a male papaya tree. For the past 16 years we have not had one election in Dominica that is based on vision, justice, truth and good moral etc. No wonder Skerrit has won every one. Skerrit is the most corrupt leader alive in our world today, and no corrupt leader gets out by the ballot. That’s the mistake you and UWP making and no matter what the people may have told you, come election day May 7, we will have a repeat of the same old same old.

UWP should not take part in this election because all the electoral reform they call for have not materialized. If they want to be taken seriously they should boycott the polls then I will know they putting their money where their mouth is.
