Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said that he will not “waste his time” and respond to allegations regarding the controversial “villas” or any other property for which he is being accused of owning.
In a question and answer segment of a Dominica Diaspora Entrepreneurship Forum at the Public Service Union this morning, Denmark-based Dominican Patrick Joseph questioned the prime minister on what he said were constant allegations about Skerrit and the “villas.”
The Dominican raised concern about what he said was the prime minister’s “silence” on the topic.
“Please take Mr Linton to court!” Joseph told the prime minister.
“…. I am not gonna waste my time on these people who are there who are hell bent on taking this government out, bringing this government down, denigrating the government. I’m not gonna waste my time. This matter was debated squarely in the elections of 2009. I stated my case to the Dominican people. They listened to every view point and they made a decision in 2009,” he said.
The diaspora member indicated that the allegations had given the office of the prime minister and country a bad name. He called on the prime minister to respond to the allegations and further implied that Skerrit’s “silence” was a sign of guilt.
“Let me say to you my Dominican Danish friend… did you also hear that I own a boat and I own apartments in Dominica and New York? Didn’t you also hear that I own Krazy Kokonuts? Did you also hear I own a home in St Joseph? Did you also hear I own a former building which is Vena’s Guest House? You heard that too?” the prime minister asked.
“Should I sue everybody who says that about me? Should I sue everybody who said something about the prime minister, and how often do I go to court to deal with those issues?” he asked the overseas-based national.
He reiterated: “You can take what anybody says about the prime minister and decide what you want to, how you want to treat it but I am telling you that Roosevelt Skerrit is not going to waste his time on these people who are hell bent on bringing this government down.”
“I have things to do. I have dealt with this matter squared in the public before. I have stated my place in this matter and I am not going to be responding to every single thing that they said about Roosevelt Skerrit or the prime minister,” he added.
The Denmark resident created a small uproar during the proceedings when he interjected several comments and questions loudly while the prime minister responded to his concerns.
This prompted Skerrit to state: “You see, that is typical of those who do not support the government, that they ask questions but they do not want to hear response to the questions and so forth – unless the response is what they have already planned in their minds.”
After several interruptions from the Denmark resident, the prime minister stated: “So if you want to believe whatever you want to believe you take it and you go back to Denmark with it and do whatever you want with it. But as far as I am concerned I have dealt with this matter.”
“They can shout, they can scream on this matter I have stated my claim and you won’t get me to respond to these guys… on every issue,” he added.
Government officials and other stakeholders had gathered with the diaspora to speak on issues which affect them this morning.
I have emails in my possessions clearly stating that the registered properties of an investigative journalist belongs to another. When Lennox wins the villa case and it is established in the Dominican court that emails instead of registered documented evidence bearing the seal of Dominica can prove and justify the rightful ownership of property then I advise all Dominicans with emails stating that the registered properties of others belong to them to take the matter to court. Furthermore it doesn’t matter how you aquire these emails, once you have them is proof enough.

enough has been put out there…enough contradictions and clear untruths and change in stories from Tony Astaphan has been heard for any smart person to realise the Villas belong to Skerrit.
At first, when the emails were released where arrangements were being made to pay Supriya and designs were approved and materials purchases for the PM for the villas, TONY SAID THE EMAILS WERE DOCTORED “CUT AND PASTE” EMAILS.
However, when the architect was interviewed and admitted on tape that she worked for Skerrit on the villas and that he is a good pay master and pays on time and in advance, Tony came back with a new story. He admitted then that the emails are being accepted as legitimate, however, they were mis-interpreted.
Surely, I am sure you don’t need Tony or anybody else to interpret a simple email for you as long as you did english at high school level.
So ponder of that for the time….while the clock ticks…and more will be revealed….
I am a Labour Party supporter and if Mr. Prime Minister is proven to have aquired thes assets out of the treasury, I will be one of the first to say jail him. However no one is presenting any proof of this. Even I would be interested in seeing the evidence. Everyone is just breathing this hot air about villas this and villas that. Ya’all just need to shut up and present the evidence. Actions always speak lowder than words.

The biggest problem for the PM and Tony Astaphan ( The Penguin) is that they are unable to cover up this crime. The evidence in not a moving target; the Villas, the design Architect etc cannot change the facts. Note Tony & his co conspirators were able to cloud the garbage Bin issue because there were means and ways of casting doubt on the independent minded people and even those who would rather remain color blind even when the truth is as glaring as the mid day sun. So we here all of this disconnected lies from Tony, the contradiction ; the Bubbles – “ I love Lucy episode”. As the saying goes “ Putty and Paint makes the Devil look like a saint”. The more the PM and Tony lie is the deeper the resentment and the uglier things become. Had the PM openly admit to the ownership of the Villas particularly during the election maybe just maybe this issue would not have been so intense. The PM would have won the election in spite off and the UWP guys would finally give it up.
We have to wonder what else did this prime Minister not lie about. He lied about his dual citizenship and broke the law( See YouTube for Tony Astaphan lecture on the dual citizenship fiasco- according to Tony Skerrit may have to go to jail) The PM lied about the garbage bins and they told us the tax thing was an error on the part of the lawyer.
Fool me once shame on you full me twice shame on me. I am former member of the DLP and I am just perturbed by all these allegations. I love my country Dominica and was truly angry at the corruption of the then UWP and I went all out to insure that they were booted out of office. Now I feel ashamed of the party that I thought would bring back integrity and honesty.
Mental capacity to remain discrete. Skerrit could have and should have lie low and not be so arrogant. This behavior is indicative of the Teenage boy maturity that we see from the PM. We all know the Skerrit is and was not the only one who will and deal the sovereignty of Dominica. There are other ministers involved one way or another. I know the Cottage Dude is definitely not clean.
Sometimes one needs to accept defeat and leave to fight another day. This issue must be bearing down on the Prime Minister whether he admits this or not. An issue like this must affect the performance of his duties. So in the interest of all I suggest a public inquiry into the matter- let us just put it all out into the open and let the chips fall wherever.

You should not blame us for exposing the PM’s wrong doing to international countries. It was Mr. Skerrit that needs to know that international countries know more about his mess than you think. Hold your brakes, I worked at at bank for over 4 years so I know about loan, and debt to income ratio and loan limit based on salary, age and collateral.
And if you were listening you would have heard that the only loan skerrit said he has is a 400 thousand dollar loan for his “simple house”..and another 80 grand loan RCCU.
So its good that you have admitted the villas belong to Skerrit, but please do not lie on our financial institutions in town. There is no 10 plus million dollar loans in any bank to Skerrit’s name.

Isn’t it time that Dominicans start looking at the things that are important to Dominica and Dominicans? Only when PM Skerrit will not be in office that we will know what we miss.
Since Mr Skerrit has people like Pas. BJ, Peter R and Father Sharlis in his circle, they should inform him that responding to accusations brought agaist his name, office of the Pm and nation is not a waste of time because they must have preached from LK.16:1-13 where the steward was asked to give an account of his stewardship because of accusation brought agaisnt him. These men of God need to do the right thing instead of giving Mr. Skerrit a free pass to heaven because he gives them deplomatic pasport, gifts and special favors. As we celbrate independence, the pm should consider doing the following to clear his name, his office and the integrity of our nation: 1. Speak the truth and ask for forgiveness (we will forgive him because we love him) 2. Resign . 3.Conduct a public investigation like Mamo did when Edison and them tried to tanish her reputation 4. Install a government of nation unity with MR Behamzin being the leader, since he is the only man of integrity that seems to be remaining in DA and / 4. As an independence gift to the people of DA, return our island back to Britain since we have shown over the years, that we are too partisan, greedy, hungry and unable to run the affair of others. By this, Mr. Skerrit would not have to waste time with “these people.” Although I voted Mr. Skerrit the last time I voted in 2000, I think the Pm has gotton too rich and needs to tell us about the source of his income. Otherwise, we are left to wonder if it is 1.Drug related 2. Tax payers money 3. The sale of Bird Island to Chavez when he gave the speech in Venezuela in June 2006 where he stated that “Aves Island (Bird Island) belongs to Venezuela” and that ends all dispute – wikipedia. To the one that replied to my first post, I had to say if found guilty because I believe in that right of every citizen. You are innocent until proven guilty. But it gets tricky when the courts are corrupt for example; The lawyer that was giving bubbles and his lawyer advise on the first case is now the attorney general and the one that will be prosecuting bubbles in the appeal. The PM of St. Vincent despite what is said about him finds the time to defend himself in court and wins a defamation case. Are we to believe that Ralph is a war monger or someone who see the importance of his good name and that of his government and our PM does not? I dear say if someone where to accuse us, the main constriants we face are typically money to challenge the person in court or overwhelming evidence that the accused cannot defend. Well, which one do we think is the case of Dominica PM or should we choose for him. In the case of Bubbles lawyer letter to Lennox which hinted possible legal action in court, I hope the PM is not implying that his friend has the time to take on such matters and is not as thick skin as he is to ignore decent and criticism. I do not support any party, and it would make sense for our PM to put this to bed if not for himself, but for the people who are tormented daily with thoughts like, suppose our PM is guilty and we are being mislead; this will be hard to stomach the many foul comments constituents who supported his government will face. But on the flip side one has to understand the situation PM skerrit is facing that he is really alone in the prison of his thoughts, and what worst place is there because every day he has to try convince himself that he is right and they are wrong until they can prove their case, aka 99 days for the you know who and 1 day for the police or better yet God. I hope you are speaking the truth PM because it will be a sad day if it is otherwise.

Just because a person asked a questions, and he is forceful in doing so, does not mean that he does not support the gov’t? If the PM is not wasting his time with the allegations which started in 2009 and never stopped, why is his appointed spokesman Kopere Lapen ranting and raving defending him ever minute on the State owned radio and on his fanatic supporter’s radio station Kairi FM. The PM’s diversion tactics into they say I own boats and planes and other things is just negative psychology at work, if you make the allegations bigger then it sounds ridiculous and people will say it cannot be true. The question is simple Do you own the villas or not Mr PM, because the email correspondences of which there are many point to you. Even Supriya in her interview with Kopere Lapen who is a senior lawyer never denied the emails and was never asked about them, Why? The most important question in the interview should have been Did you send the emails they are speaking about or are these emails fakes? The one Mr Alexis who says he owns the villas in the court under oath showed clearly he knows little about them. When asked who was the architect for this multi million dollar project Alexis replied under oath, I cannot remember. So the two Koperes have alot of cover up to do for the PM who hides behind their walls of Jericho but one day the wall of lies will come tumbling. I read all these bias comments both for and against the PM. I have followed all these allegations levied against the PM. I do reside out of Dominica but visit DA nothing less that three times yearly. We all got to be honest with our selves. Let us all put political bias aside and look at the situation objectively. Should the PM really respond to all allegation made against him through the courts?
There are several issues relative to the PM diplomacy that I do not agree with but I must say that I agreed with the answer he gave when rudely chastised by a fellow Dominican. The PM was asked the question and he answered it. It may not have been the answer we wanted but he did give answer and went on to further explain his answer by letting us know of the many allegations that have been made against him. He is correct, he would spend more of his time in court than in office hence making it impossible to do the peoples work. Some of us may say that he was not questioned relative the other allegations. Wouldn’t that be hypocritical of him to deal with one issue and not the others?
I am satisfied at the moment until the contrary is proven that the PM doesn’t own the Villa. The owner of the Villa said so. I want to hear the PM talk about taking DA forward with jobs, infrastructure development, increase in pay for Govt. workers, education, sporting infrastructure and development, an affordable medical coverage for all among other issues. Please people we deserve more so let us not be distracted by the same old issues that keeps us in the same hole. Lets focus on what’s going to take our people forward and put food on our table. We are a better people than what we portray on this medium. Lets give the elected Govt. a chance to work. Election is coming soon if we are not satisfied we they can be voted out. I don’t think we should take political sides here. It is alleged that my primeminister broke the law. If he is innocent then he should prove it. I am aware that the opposition wants to use that villa charade to discredit the government, but this is an alegation put to hon Roosevelt Skerrit as an individual, so his response shouldn’t be on behalf of the G.O.D but on his own accord. Prove it and let us all move on. He is the PM of our country and he is being labeled as a criminal and he sits there and says that it is not important to respond to this allegation. This position which he has taken in response is actually giving the administration and all the other members of the team, who are the leaders of this country a bad name.

This is to be fair and just. I state: “Have respect for him and his position. Leave him alone to fulfill his elected duties.” May God assist him accordingly.
So the old boring question of who owns the villas is still top priority in Dominica.
If I was continuosly asked the same question and what ever answer I gave was ignored, I to would say ‘go to hell’. Dam, I’d say worse than that.

How many of you have stolen (sorry taken) land and never paid for it. How many of you accept handouts come election time (even though you dont need it). In case you are not aware that is stealing, as it is taking something that is not rightly yours.

PM Skerritt asked the Dominican-Danish if he heard that he owned all those other assets mentioned above apart from the VILLAS. Did the Dominican-Danish man ask any questions about those assets? Are those other assets that he revealed hidden in his SUB-CONSCIOUS MIND and he had to unconsciously reveal that to the public at that meeting? Is PM Skerritt into serious REAL ESTATE BUSINESS?
He called on the Prime Minister to respond to the allegations about ownership of the VILLAS and further implied that Skerrit’s “silence” was a sign of guilt. Well Dominicans learnt in school that SILENCE MEANS CONSENT.
In the meantime the country is reeling from increased poverty and Mal Administration? Bad Governance is the order of the day. Institutions are being DERAILED. Dominicans are realizing that JUSTICE IS NOT FOR ALL. Unemployment on the rise. Crimes and violence taking over. The jails at StockFarm are overfilled with young people. Agriculture, Manufacturing, Tourism on the decline. What is the latest with that GEOTHERMAL EXPLORATION PROJECT that was given to West Indies Power Co.?

I was not a witness however according to the report my immediate reaction was that this expat. Need a lesson in social skills and maybe one class in protocol. If the expat interrupted the PM this type of behavior and treatment of our state leader should not be condoned. With regards to the issue brought up by the Expat. I believe that the PM should really address the issue. The PM should be more diplomatic in his responses. The question however posed was not related to Krazt Coconut , the Boats , apartment in New York and guess houses. The PM should address the issue as this issue continues to tarnish the highest office of our country.
According to the PM’s response the issue had been debated fair and square during the election. If we remove all biases we will all agree that the PM has never addressed the issue. Like the garbage Bin issue the PM should cordially address the nation on this issue. In doing so he might be able to pour water on this fire. It would be prudent to watch the nation straight up and tell the people that the VILLAS is not his property. To date the only response from presumably the side of the Prime Minister is the words from Tony Astaphan’s mouth. I’m not sure if Dominicans on a whole trust anything that Tony says as Tony speaks from both sides of his mouth- it all depends on which side the money is sweeter.
In the PM’s response he also insinuated that the 18 seat victory is a direct or indirect response to the Villa gate accusations. The PM must not forget that he represent the people of Dominica not 18 seats. In a time when families are struggling to put food on the table; unemployment is a constant plague on our nation and people cant pay their mortgages and government ministers are accused of leaving the high life the PM has a moral the moral, social and official obligation to clear all doubts about his financial prowess.
It is unfortunate though that the PM minister is the only target. According to the BVI case transcript the PM was not the only government official who took gifts from the business man. One can only conclude that the is the only one arrogant enough to show off the wealth.
One question I would likee to ask the PM is – How was Dominica able to implement the red clinic program- what was the source of this money? (2) Why didn’t the government do something more sustainable with the money? Did that money come from the treasury or did that money come from personal funds? I am fully aware that some people’s response to my question is – “ Not your Business” . in anticipation of this arrogant response – I shall only say – THE TRUTH LIES WITHIN. And the more I read the direct comments from Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, the more I am discovering that he is a man who deserve to hold the post of authority which he holds in Dominica.
I remember a time when people of Canada wanted to Prime Minster Pierre Trudea–one of Canada’s greatest leaders, who passed away some years ago– to let them know about his concerns of gay people in Canada. They were not talking about gay marriages or anything like that. It was just that the lifestyle was in its rise and they had to demand that goverment look into their rights, based on the constitution. The Prime minster was simply saying that if Canada wanted to live a gay lifestyle, that was their personal choice. But when comes involving him and his government in their choice of existence, that was out of the question, and so was it, until other men took his place.

I was taken aback by “Chiensal’s” comments. He did say that Skerrit will pay one day “IF FOUND GUILTY”. I supposed after an open and transparent investigation and trial. I am surprise that at long last somebody who obviousl;y is not a supporter of Skerrit has finally agreed that irrespective of all the accusations, Roosevelt Skerrit still remains an innocent man untill the duly constituted system of justice finds him guilty. I hate when these Dominicans in the diaspora come to Dominica and show their disrespect and pretend that they know more than others. I am sure this person would never be allowed to interrupt the president or Prime Minister of Denmark in the course of a speech or presentation. No matter how much people dislike Skerrit, the office must be given its due respect because the Office of the Prime Minister transcends Skerrit and any person or personality. Skerrit will eventually leave politics but the Office of the Prime Minister will remain.
I am sure many people remember the senator who heckled Obama during a speech in Congress and the price he had to pay for it. People from both sides of the political fence in the US thought the senator was out of order: this shows how much emphasis is placed on the office of the president and not necessarily the man himself. It is amazing how Dominicans have made their hatred for Skerrit allow them to show complete contempt for the Office of Prime Minister.

It’s a contstant condradiction with UWP supporters, they complain about the right of foreigners to come back to vote but now it’s ok for a foreigner to come back to Dominica and be disrespectful in public to the PM. Tell me how is that justified?
Brother or Sister Chiensal I couldn’t have said it better. A crime is committed and there is an elaborate attempt to cover up this crime which is itself a crime. So I hope that all those involved in covering up fraud will pay sooner rather than later. And ofcourse the main perpetrator should not be spared and should be punished most severely.
It is rather funny that 18 seats was won by the Labour party – but only one man is being harassed. What is going on? Maybe if they destroy the head the body and tail will disintegrate is that what is it.?
But the PM is strong! What God has blessed no man curse. Maybe some of us do not understand that. Some of us have wives and children – lets think of the children’s future – they are watching us, our behaviour and can pattern their lives on that. No body ask you about boats, guest house and krazy coconuts. We the Dominican public are asking you about the Villas. Answer the questions thats all. All leaders in Democratic countries answer their people especially when it deals with corruption.
Remember the past Taiwan president and his wife is in jail for life and he had to pay US$15 million back to the country for corruption, fraud and money laundering while in office.
Our PM is not a saint and the majority of Dominicans know he owns the villas. But as he keeps lying and lying the people starting to trust him less and less. To all the sane Dominicans in here on DNO I would just like to say that he will never be in office forever and the truth will come out and he will have to pay if found guilty.
Both Tony and Charles will also pay for knowingly lying to the public on the PM’s behalf. The rest of cabinet that aided and watched will also be held accountable. After they pay back all that was borrowed with interest their names will be recorded in the history books as thieves.
I promised myself to refrain from posting any comments but with the Jah Cure story and now this I can no longer hold true to that commitment.
We’ll take a short at the latter, and simple state without an independent, transparent, reputable institution, an investigative office, you may call that office whatever, what’s important is that we need in these offices persons performing their duties with integrity, discipline and most importantly with an independence of mind, with their moral compass squarely pointed to the truth; until then, we will continue to have statements being made by people in power like the one’s made by our prime minister.
With an attitude, that they owe us no explanation…
I would like to believe that the majority of folks would like an independent investigation to clear this matter up, these are serious accusations and it is in the public’s interest to get this cleared up as soon as possible.

Mr PM the matter was never debated during the elections. In fact there was never a debate and the PM has always been silent on the issue. In my opinion the PM should have either said yes or no. As citizens we do have a right to question elected officials. The PM need to be more diplomatic. The PM of a country cannot go around answering “ Is not your Dam business) when citizens question issues related to the office of the PM.
If the PM does not own the villas then he should simply answer – No I don’t and request another question. Note though that with all the anger expressed the PM is yet to say Yes or know therefore like the visitor I remain curious about the silence and evasiveness of the PM on this Villa issue.
The PM Said he dealt with the matter, that he does not own it…what then do you want him to say?
