I have no interest in politics – O.J. Seraphine

Former prime minister of Dominica, O.J. Seraphin, is making it clear that he has no intention of re-emerging into the political landscape of Dominica.

A recent Sun Newspaper article reported that there are moves to revive the defunct Democratic Labour Party, which was formed by Seraphin in 1979 after he resigned from the Dominica Labour Party led by Patrick John.

There have been whispers that Seraphin could be part of the revival.

But in a release on Wednesday, Seraphin said he has no desire to return to politics in Dominica.

“I have been resident abroad for the most part of the past six years and wish to state categorically that I have  at no time expressed a desire or demonstrated intent to form any other political organization for the forthcoming general elections in Dominica,” he said.

The former prime minister stated that a recent visit to Dominica should not signal his re-emergence into politics “despite the very enthusiastic homecoming I received.”

“My focus has been and is in the area of humanitarian funding for regional governments and as ambassador for church-based organizations,” Seraphin said.

Quoting unnamed sources, The Sun reported that organisers of the new Democratic Labour Party said their aim is to unseat the Roosevelt Skerrit-led Dominica Labour Party and “they will work with the opposition United Workers Party to achieve that result.”

Seraphin served as interim prime minister of Dominica from June 25, 1979 to July 21, 1980.

During his term in office the island was devastated by Hurricane David and he became preoccupied with rebuilding efforts.

He lost the 1980 general election to Mary Eugenia Charles and has not returned to politics since.

I think OJ got it wrong. One faction of the Labour Party wants to abandon the sinking ship and form a Democratic Labour Party is my guess. The fact that OJ led a, now defunct, party with the same name a mere coindidence.

You hope!? The amount of poor and jobless labour party supporters that is out there, don’t you think that they are fed up? Don’t you think that they want work? Don’t you think that they want better for their lives, their children and the country? It is not everyone who is party mad, you know – some people put country first!

DNO report the full ting nuh. The embalming of DEMLAB thingy is coming from the Douglasses who have been DISCARDED by Skerrit.
DNO follow up on the happenings in Portsmouth – get up go follow the news. Me self standing in line for my cow boy hat wi papa. Ian I will support you strongly not because you are a Douglas but because we must teach the corrupt labor Party a lesson in Porssie Politics.
Also we want to teach the back stabbers a lesson in honesty and truth. The truth is Ian is one of the party corner stone who did not run with the ATM and what is even worse is the way Ian was and is treated.
I do hope that Ian strap on a pair and take a stand against Roosevelt Skerrit who in the first place was never a laborite.
