Kervin Bateau tops La Plaine Village Council election

Polling in La Plaine on Monday

Kevin Bateau has topped the La Plaine Village Council election which took place on Monday, January 9, 2017.

The previous council was dissolved after differences among members became irreconcilable.

A record 486 people cast their ballots in the election.

The full results are as follows:

Kervin Bateau-246
Jason Fontaine-238
Ella Laudat-229
Asher Laronde- 222
Rose Blaize and Vernika Allan tied at 211

In November 2016 Minister for Social Services, Catherine Daniel gave explanations why the Council was dissolved.

And according to her the reason for the decision was based on the fact that it seemed as the people on the council were not able to work together and there were some shortcomings in the performance at council level which some people were very much disturbed by.

She said differences had become irreconcilable.

Can you tell us the composition the previous council?

  9. “A record 486 people cast their ballots in the election.”(Article).

I am fully aware that I might be a dunce, an idiot, maybe mentally challenged, or simply exist in a state of inebriation! However, something is absolutely wrong here, and perhaps this might be the reasons Skerrit always wins!

If only 486 people voted, how come the votes given to Kevin, Jason, Ella and Asher; total 935 votes, that is 449 more votes whereas it states only “486 people cast their ballots in the election.”

And how do we account for Rose and Vernika who seems to get an equal number of votes totaling 211 each. This makes no sense whatsoever. To me it seems 1357 people voted!

ADMIN: Voters were allowed to vote for more than one candidate, hence the number.

    • Thanks Admin for your clarification; appreciated!

But that still not making any sense. How you mean voters are allowed to vote for more than one canidate?
More than one canidate in the same position? I do not see the rational behind that.

they elect a council, hence; they dont vote for one person; they vote for 5.

The council had become too political where preferential treatments in job distribution existed. As a result of this, the people LaPlaine from both parties were dissatisfied with this practices and decided to establish a united front to tackle these deficiencies. Now with members from both parties represented, we can proceed with the business of council for the development of our community.

Now that is a democratic decision by the people. Jason, you came second but don’t undo all the good work and work with Kervin and all the others without argument please and I thank you.
