KNOW YOUR CANDIDATES: The Paix Bouche Constituency

paix bouche constituency
Eunica Anthony-Victor (UWP) and Roselyn Paul (DLP)

EDITOR’S NOTE: In the run up to the general election, Dominica News Online will be publishing a brief profile or biography of each candidate from the two political political parties contesting the poll. The publications will be done in a random order. The material was provided by the both the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) and the United Workers Party (UWP).

Roselyn Paul (DLP)

I am honoured that so many of you, my neighbours and friends in the constituency of Paix-Bouche have asked me to seek election as your Parliamentary Representative on behalf of the Dominica Labour Party.

I recognize that representation is a huge responsibility, but I view service to you as the high point in a life dedicated to teaching and community work.

The development of the people in the constituency of Paix-Bouche will be my primary focus.

I want every one of you to reach your full potential no matter the station or stage of your life. My pledge is representation guided by consultation with the residents of Paix- Bouche, Calibishie, Bense, Anse-de-Mai and Ansoldat.

I intend to build on the strong platform already provided by the Dominica Labour Party by improving skills and introducing a business approach to agriculture and community tourism. Our young people, in particular, will be empowered by being given the training, mentorship and capital to start their own small businesses.

Everything that we do moving forward will be focused on self-sufficiency and employment.

Of course, I will also push for improved main and farm access roads, enhanced sporting and community facilities, better housing and greater access to social programmes for those in need. I am committed to working hard every day for you and all the constituents of Paix-Bouche.

I ask you for your vote so that the constituency of Paix-Bouche can continue on the road of progress for the benefit of each and every one of you.

Some plans include:

-Community/constituency consultations to develop a long term constituency development plan and identification of priorities, resources and realistic strategies

-Continued provision of support to the programmes and projects of the village councils

-Agricultural resurgence programme to encourage constituents to take advantage of opportunities and access to resource support for:
–Establishment of livestock/poultry farms to supply Dominica’s Abattoir and to benefit from employment

Eunica Anthony-Victor (UWP)

I have always felt a need to give back to the people of the Paix Bouche constituency for the values and experiences they have instilled in me, shaping me into the woman I am today. My goal as minister of parliament will be to focus on the development of youth and to re-establish the traditions, ambition and drive for economic independence that once existed in this community.

Growing up in Dominica, I was very active with youth groups and spent a lot of time learning from the members of my family and community. By witnessing their hard work, I learned to apply myself and focus steadily on my education. I attended the Portsmouth Secondary School, Dominica State College and later, the Hugh Wooding Law School. I have always treasured my upbringing, so when I was called to the bar in 2006, part of my speech highlighted my desire to contribute to my community and to give back in whatever way I can.

Through grit and determination, I gained a position as an attorney with the government of Dominica in 2006, and a few years later, the opportunity to work at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank as a legal officer. I now practice law with a private firm.

I am painfully aware of the stagnation in the Paix Bouche constituency and recognize that it is time to take a stand to be resilient and make changes for ourselves. This is my home, it is the place that has given me my happiest days, and I therefore intend to be proactive, to inspire change and help propel growth for my people. By May, 2015, I hope to be sworn in as minister of parliament to represent my constituency in Dominica’s House of Assembly.

Top four priorities

-Youth Development

-Cultural Development

-Agricultural Investment

-Economic Revitalization

Before Roselyn came into politics I already had a few question marks about her despite the fact that she was a church person, former teacher and involved in community work. Ms. paul, please clear the air on the following: 1. Will you now tell us the people of Paix Bouche what you know about monies that departed from the account of The PB Cultural Group under your watch? 2.Did you or anyone you know enter into a plea deal with the leadership of the said group and agreed to pay back in exchange of keeping police out? 3. Can you confirm whether you or anyone you know paid back the money? . This is not mapewee but questions we need answers for since honesty and integrity means everything to me when electing leaders.

Is it a deliberate move by the DNO to eliminate the achievements of the DLP candidates? I have read the “know your candidate columns and what I know about the DLP candidates are nowhere written in the columns. For EXample, if you get the real bio of Roselyn Paul you would see that both academically and in community achievement she surpasses Ms Anthony. All Ms Anthony has is a law degree, which does not include theoretical information on a community level unlike Ms Paul’s degrees.

ADMIN: We asked the respective parties to send us the info and this is what was sent after we told them what we wanted. We publish exactly what was sent to us.

I am Roselyn Paul’ daughter and I know for a fact that DNO has NEVER contacted my mother! In view of this blatant lie, her Bio will NEVER be published on your page. In todays world it is very unethical and unprofessional to resort to such mischief and propaganda. In fact you can check on facebook for a comprehensive account of Ms. Roselyn Paul’s work rather than doctoring aspects from her booklet which was circulated in her constituency.

ADMIN: We never said we contacted the candidates. We said we contacted each party which in turn agreed to sent us the information we published. So you better be careful what you say and read before commenting.

Folks, DNO has provided us with the profile of both UWP and DLP candidates almost throughout the country. let’s put aside all of our politics and and go through them constituency by constituency and tell if any of the DLP candidates have anything to give you hope for a better future. Based on their profile they have convinced me that if elected DA will be worse off in the next 5 yrs than we are today. Is that what we want for our country? Its all about Skerrit and his social programs they running. What if Skerrit departs, God forbid? Who do we turn to? Ambrose? Timothy? Blackmoore? 1 Sure not Austrie! You see the trouble that lies ahead if we vote the DLP back? On the flip side, UWP candidates really have me inspired by their vision for a better tomorrow for all of us. A vision that tells me that even if Lennox Linton were to depart God forbid, the vision would still continue because of the talent seen in the team. I see true leadership in Sandford, Dr. Fontaine, Baptist, Joseph Isaac, Joshua Francis, Eunica Victor and others who can really step up. Can we truthfully say the same about DLP candidates. Dominicans, behave yourselves you hear!

I commend the efforts by DNO to educate us voters on who the candidates actually are but their efforts will be in vain if the present fraudulent activities in this election continues without being stopped. The will of the people is being stifled through the acts of bribery, and importing of voters.

I appeal to right thinking people out there to do their part in prevent election fraud this time around. If you know something. SAY SOMETHING DO SOMETHING. Go through the electors list in your respective constituencies and report all those who don’t belong.

In keeping with my fair and unbiased analysis of all the candidates contesting the December 8th general election and again, not taking colors into consideration (red, blue, green, whatever), here are my analysis of the two candidates for the Paix Bouche Constituency as profiled by DNO.

My fellow readers, I will not waste your time and go through any lengthy commentaries and reasoning because this is the worst profile published thus far. I am once again, very disappointed in the DLP, and I have simply dumped Ms. Roselyn Paul’s resume/bio into the trash. I have no idea who is penning the DLP candidates bio but Ms. Paul’s bio is terrible and she simply does not meet the criteria for the job in the Dominica’s parliament. Therefore, thumbs up its Eunice Anthony-Victory all the way. DLP supporters please don’t hate me because all I am doing is keeping it real here.

    God bless Dominica.

Hello and good evening my people. Well it’s nice to see two women running for office to represent their community. Now Ms/Miss Victor told us of her education and pass employment which is her qualification to hold said office if she is elected. Ms/Miss Paul asked for the peoples vote but she didn’t tell us of her education which would be her qualifications. I would like to know more about Ms/Miss Paul. Anyway best of luck two both women for wanting to represent their community. We need debates among all the candidates.

@ Anonymous, how could you miss this from Eunica Anthony-Victor (UWP)? “Growing up in Dominica, I was very active with youth groups” and spent a lot of time learning from the members of my family and community. As a villager I can also confirm that Ms. Paul was very active in the community; just that she left us with questions

Only this morning on the Kamala Heng show, Vince was trying to convince the DLP supporters and Dominicans by extension, Mr. Linton, according to him, lacked the basic educational background to be a Minister of Government, far less to be Prime Minister. He went on to pay tribute to a gentleman, who he claimed, went back to school and did five subjects five years and upon completion, he was accepted by a college. He also referred to himself, who went back to school in order to receive a degree. In his opinion, Mr. Linton should has done the same, return to school at some time. What he did not say was that, while he was being paid a salary from the taxes of the people of Dominica, he was also attending a university, simultaneously. Mr. Linton was not offered the same opportunity. If Vince is so convinced that educational background is the yard stick that should be used to measure who should be in parliament or not, I hope he can convince the constituents of Paix- Bouche, they should elect Roselyn Paul to parliament instead of Mrs. Eunica Anthony Victor.

Then Vince should run instead of Skerrit. On paper he surpasses him, but with all his big mouth he remains at the mercy of Skerrit and slurping all his insults while crying in the dark. Labour party people like Vince have no shame..

Why are the profiles of the dlp candidates so…..lacking in content. Reading this, no one knows anything about Roselyn Paul. What village is she from, whats her backgound, what moved her to join the dlp?? Is this from their manifesto? if so, they should not have rushed to go to print!

You need to understand that the candidates are just there because the system dictates it. At the end of the day skerritt is the ultimate ruler. The only candidate which skerritt seas as cabinet material is Dr Christmas and he will have no impact as he was bought. The rest are only there to make up the numbers, they will be content to have a job as a minister with all the perks that goes with it. The more seats skerritt wins the less relevant each individual candidate becomes so that skerritt will have his way. I fail to see how educated intelligent people can give support to skerritt but I guess as the saying goes, even the devil in hell has his followers.
