Political leader of the United Worker’s Party (UWP) Ron Green has described the December 18, 2009 General Elections as a farce.
Green was speaking at a UWP press conference yesterday where he said he has evidence that the Dominica Labor Party bought votes and charted planes for Dominican living overseas to come home to cast their ballots.
“This is the heart of the matter. We can run, we can hide but we all know the truth, the December 18 General Elections were a farce,” Green said.
But according to Green the evidence of vote buying and charted planes never reached the courts. “So I say to Prime Minister Skerrit that you know, you know, you know that there were at least eight charters that arrived at the Melville Hall at a cost of $200,000 each. You know that 1,200 came off these charters and each was given pocket money totaling $1.2 million,” he stated.
Green said the Prime Minister knows who organized the entire enterprise and who the agents were. “You know where this was set up, you know where the money came from,” he said.

Ron Green is revealing a few things.First of all, he always thinks that our election is a farce. That’s why he has contested elections for the past 20 years even if he knowingly pledges allegiance to a foreign power. Where is the respect, Mr Green? He absolves PM Skerrit of all responsibility for organizing the charters. He alleges that Skerrit knows who organized them. Is it a crime for nationals in the diaspora to return home to vote?
Secondly, Mr Green claimed that there were 8 charters and 1200 people. That averages to 150 people per flight. When the crew is added we can safely assume that 737 jets landed safely at Melville Hall Airport. Each voter was allegedly given $1000.00; waw!!
@ listen Well; That was a brilliant attempt at manipulating statistics. DLP got 22,235 votes while UWP got 12,660. The difference is 9,575. If you take away 1200 you are left with 8,375. But that’s beside the point. Someone would have to be a brilliant strategist to allocate the votes to each constituency based on your formula. Their names would also have to be on that constituency’s list. If not, you are choosing the wrong poll clerks to represent your party at the polling station on election day (hint- wink, wink).
Lastly, Hon Justina Charles got 1350 votes in Grand Bay for the DLP. UWP’s Leanthia Pacquette Lewis got 119 , DFP’s Harian Henry got 19 and DPP’s Peter got 9, totalling 147. 1350 – 147 = 1253. Then 1253 – 1200 = 3. So Grand Bay alone has taken care of the alleged 1200 voters and Hon Justina still wins by 3 votes.

Frankly…I don’t believe that you want to know….See,sadly,I’ve come to the conclusion that some Dominicans do not like truth, even when it is right before their very eyes…they refuse to see, or believe. Mr. Green, I have a problem; do so never like so. You speak about the plane loads of people coming in to vote like the UWP never did the same thing. It worked in their favour so what? Castle Bruce was won by the DLP by 155 votes
Laplaine was won by the DLP by only 2 votes
Morne Juane was won by the DLP by only 8 votes
Roseau North was won by the DLP by just 117 votes
The total margin for these 5 seats is 357 votes
Subtract that from the 1200 figure stated, this leaves you with 843
Then go to St. Joe for example, a win by 350
Roseau Valley, a win by 270
Must I go on?
And then you couple that with all the double voting, plus votes on dead people’s name.

Plain and simple, your cousin Palestrina ask the PM to call the election, he did, you ask for foreign observers, you got it, they said election was fair. You lost. You been going to court since spending all the little money all you had to spend instead of using it to rejuvenate the party and get prepared for the next election. Is there a way to know for sure how each person voted after leaving the box? Were these non Dominicans coming of the planes? If they were in fact born Dominican citizens, has their right to vote been taken away, because they live abroad?
the hard raw fact is that as long as your name is on the list when the final writ is issued then you do have the right to vote.The prelimminary list of electors have recently been published along with invitations to lodge objections to the list. I wonder how many objections has Mr. Green and his party lodged. Yet they are wasting time and money quarrelling about past elections and voters list while Roosevelt Skerrit is alraedy preparing for the next one.that why he will keep beating them.
