Member of Parliament for the Paix Bouche constituency, Matthew Walter, has shrugged off United Workers Party (UWP) candidate for that constituency, Eunica Anthony-Victor, saying she will walk the path of political suicide.
Walter told privately-owned Kairi FM that the Dominica Labor Party (DLP) has a solid foundation in Paix Bouche and she will be facing a formidable team of laborites.
“Eunica Anthony will only follow that path that her predecessors have walked and that is the path of political suicide,” he said. “Because the Paix Bouche laborites are not going to relent and they are not going to lose the record that they have worked hard for so long to attain, that is ensuring that the UWP opposition members will lose their deposit at all times.”
Last week the UWP announced Anthony-Victor’s candidacy for the constituency describing her as an “excellent addition to UWP Team Dominica.”
Party leader, Lennox Linton, said the selection is already creating a lot of excitement in Paix Bouche since the constituency is seeing a ‘new way forward.’
But Walter, who has been MP for the area since 1995, said that he has faced many UWP candidates before, has defeated them all and Anthony-Victor cannot be compare to any of them. “If we look at Elias Dupuis and Marcelin Lockhart, these were two persons who were socially integrated in the Paix Bouche constituency, both men were well known, they were involved in sports, they were involved in youth development and they were totally integrated in the socio-economic development of the Paix Bouche constituency,” he said. “Unfortunately both lost their deposit.”
Walter has indicated that he will not be contesting the next general election and the Dominica Labor Party has not formally announced a candidate.
Anthony-Victor is an attorney who has worked in Dominica, St. Kitts and Antigua.

Reading from what Mr Walter is saying, ” The people from his constituency will vote anything since its labour.” He is also saying that it has been ordained by God for these people to vote Labour in good and bad times. He is so confident that even when the very said persons from this part of Dominica, cant find nothing that has been done in terms of Development under the labour Party regime.

True development is when these people and others are able to access services, opportunities and benefits that will facilitate the empowerment of families, The yes we care, the DYBT, access to secondary and tertiary education with financial and material support, early childhood education. investment in tourism, infrastructure and road network, quick response to disaster, housing for the disadvantaged for those who could never face a mortgage- This is all round development. So never think PB constituency votes blindly but understand that the labour Government is a peoples government and will vote labour once more.
Paix-bouche people continue to vote with their herat. soul and mind a Government which has responded to the issues of the low income and disadvantaged strata of society; the Yes we Care, the early childhood education, access to secondary education and tertiary education with financial and material support, heath care; – people oriented, sustainable and equitable development means access to opportunities, resources and benefits to people at varying levels, not neutral policies and programmes benefiting some. After listening to all these interesting comments, I must admit that Mathew has to regret his comments. Let me remind Mr. Walter that the Paix-bouche constituency is not monolithic. People, please stick to facts and not disrespect anyone. Having said that, I now predict that Eunica Anthony Victor will be the next parliamentary representative for the Paix-Bouche constituency. When one continues to roll the dice and the outcome each time is a bust, that dice is fixed and must be change. How to we ask our youths to work had and be well educated and respected and then turn around and not encouraged them? Mr. Wallter should encourage this young lady and not vilify her. I am happy that Mr. Walter recorded the qualification of Marcellin Lockhart which I need not repeat. During the 2005 election campaign the electorates of the Paix Bouche constituency, more so Labourites, repeatedly informed me that I was more qualified than Mathew Walter and his poor performance should not afford him another opportunity, but they were voting party nonetheless. Mathew enjoyed that privilege, but he must not believe that the electorate will continue to vote blindly. There is a new awakening and people are recognizing that change is a must.
Mr Walter must also check with the Roseau Treasury because I did receive my $500 deposit. As a seasoned politician he should have known what percentage of the votes cast a candidate must receive in order to secure his/her deposit.

The arrogance of Mr. Walter knows no bounds. He should realise that democracy allows for people to change their minds as to who will represent them. There will be people in Paix Bouche who can not bring themselves to vote for Team Dominica. That is their right but they sure can abstain or spoil their ballot paper, to register their discontent because they know that a vote for the DLP candidate will will only be a vote for a nightmare called Skerrit – Walter is a mere side show in this scenario.

I agree with you 100%. Driving from Portsmouth all the way to Calibishie the roads are terrible. There are maybe a total of 10 bridges on that stretch of road, and I say only the hand of God that keeps protecting people on these bridges road. I hear people calling for feeder roads but if the government has failed to pay attention to this main road, a stretch of road traveled by the Prime Minister daily, and for which three government ministers are responsible.
I am listening to the radio daily, I have not heard anyone expressed concern about these bridges. Marpin mentioned them recently in “the cameras are watching” segment of the news and this is where the issue has died.
Everyone seem to moomoo on issues that affect them but I am waiting to hear issues they will raise on this young lady and what they knew about her great great grand parents. This is all we are good for in this constituency. No wonder we had Mathew as a punishment for the last 20 years.

People should not vote for politicians simply because they love, or like them. FET: There are people who will continue to vote for the DLP even though they are sucking salt. They have no jobs; if they do, they cannot make ends meet with their small pay checks. Blinded by an irrational loyalty, they will vote for a party that has done very little to improve their lot in life and excuse their senseless behavior by saying some ridiculous things such as Lennox Linton is aloof, does not smile, is this or that…In the meantime, they continue to suck salt and Dominica continues going down the tubes.
Anytime you find people who are brained wash, it is most of the time impossible to have them de-programmed! Most people in Dominica identify themselves with the labor party, simply because they are unable to distinguished between the name Labor Party, and physical labor, as in work performed.
There was a time when the farmers of Dominica felt compelled to vote labor, because they claimed they constantly laboring on their plantation, and felt that because the name is labor party, they are part and parcel of the party. In recent years those who try to shift away from such primitive ideas were stigmatized.
I remember one lady endeavored to put an addition to her house, she was immediately branded a UWP follower. When I ask what’s the reason for this stigma, I was informed, that all UWP followers are rich, while Labor Party followers are all poor and cannot afford to put addition unto their homes, with that sort of stupid mentality what can be expected.
Here is what I experience with my very own sister. I was told one of her daughters went home to visit her, and found her still burning kerosene lamp in the house, small as it is; my niece informed her that she was going to engage someone to wire the house and get some electricity.
I was told that my sister, told her daughter, she does not want any electricity in the house because she is a poor “labor” whatever that means. No need to say my did not do very well in school, and I am not talking her down, but there are plenty of people like her in Wesley, and all over Dominica, many these people are programmed, and they would rather live as miserable as they are living, and count the number of motor vehicles the politicians has, whereas when it rains they go and squat over there pit hole, and when they are finished they praise god for Labor you know.
Some of those people are so foolish, they see the politicians once every five years; nevertheless, they yearn for that single day to see the politicians in their village driving through and waving their hands you know, and that is all it takes for them to go out on election day and vote them right back into power.
When he is elected, he smiles at his pay cheque, tightens a vice around necks of those who voted for him/her! thus keeping them in greater poverty.

I have to say as a fellow constituent I feel insulted, now Mathew Walter is making it quite clear why this constituency never received an ounce of attention from the Labour Party administration.
I feel sad for my community but also clinging to this thread of hope that eyes will be open and hearts will be more receptive and we in the Paix Bouche constituency will give progress and development a chance, we will all rally with Eunica and support team Dominica UWP and save our beloved country from sinking deeper into abject poverty.
Mr. Walters is being realistic. Facts cannot be disputed. While the leader of her Party has demonstrated his eagerness to hold the position of PM, by taking the easy way out, this young lady is proving what true leadership is about. I must commend her for such a decision. I truly admire a risk taker.
All emotions aside, the DLP will recapture the seat. Any intelligent political strategist won’t inform you otherwise, this is just too late to present the people with the opposing candidate in a constituency with such a strong DLP support.

Let’s not worry with Matthew because most times what we say in public is not the same as what we say in our bedroom. I am quite sure Marttan heard something quite different from what we hearing on Kairi which was why he wanted to contest that same election on a UWP ticket. Mrs. Victor is an attorney at law. She once worked in the Attorney General’s office. She was assigned to the Secretariat of the Eastern Caribbean Securities. She was employed by the Government of St. Kitts as a research officer to deal with the Banking Industry. She was assigned to the Legal Aid Clinic as officer in charge. I understood the gentleman who is being considered to replace Walter is his son, does he have a University Degree or is he a school drop out as being said of Mr. Lennox Linton.

I wish to shed some light on the situation. We all know that a A good leader has an exemplary character. It is of utmost importance that a leader is trustworthy to lead others. A “BOSS” needs to be trusted and be known to live their life with honestly and integrity. A good “BOSS” “walks the talk” and in doing so earns the right to have responsibility for others. True authority is born from respect for the good character and trustworthiness of the person who leads. After perusal of the said comments and careful thought as to whether I should lend word to the same I think it prudent to state with unequivocal clarity that I never indicated ANY interest whatsoever in running for the UWP. People should stop spreading these kind of propaganda for political mileage. I have and will always be a Labourite at heart; this has remained the same from the early days of seeing Roosevelt Douglas sitting at my home, as a boy, being engaged in political discussions to present as a man. I however was approached by the Treasurer of the UWP and also a past candidate to have discussions towards that end. In the end we both parted ways amicably. The DLP does not encourage the degrading of women and children. That is what the new uwp is good at. Just look at how the Speaker of the House was treated on her Presidential nomination. Look at the new uwp attempt of using children during the Independence celebration.

I am amazed at the reasoning of the minister and if people in Dominica still reason and discuss things on this level then the country is doomed. Mr Minister we need thinkers to be in leadership position not rum shop drinkers we need people that can raise the level of discourse and can stratigize on tackling these problems, that is what Dominica needs and if you are still in the 1960’s frame of mind and the persons in your party are still stuck in this frame of mind then that’s the reason the ministry under your leadership have not been able to move forward rather it continues to decline.

Here is a Labour MP telling us that Dominicans do not vote substance, that they only vote Labour! “If we look at Elias Dupuis and Marcelin Lockhart, these were two persons who were socially integrated in the Paix Bouche constituency, both men were well known, they were involved in sports, they were involved in youth development and they were totally integrated in the socio-economic development of the Paix Bouche constituency,” he said. “Unfortunately both lost their deposit.” He might have as well said unfortunately Dominicans, especially Labour party supporters do not vote for substance! The saying that, “A people get the Government that they deserve” is ever so true in Dominica!
I think he was insinuating that those who are socially connected and well known lost their deposits, far less for someone who is not. As a former teacher, I think Mr. Mathew was well known and socially connected in the Paix Bouche constituency. Maybe more so than those he mentioned.
So anyone can put their spin on it and give their interpretation. The political twist is glaring. Everyone with a computer seems to believe that “Dominicans are stupid”.
Matthew Walter is such a waste, imagine Matthew wants to give advice on who should represent Paix Bouche. The man should keep his mouth shut because any person who wishes well for themselves should ignore Matthew.
What has Matthew Walter achieved for the people of his constituency for the last 20 years?
