Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton, said the barring of the media and the public from witnessing his swearing-in as leader of the opposition, is more evidence that Dominica is in a state of dictatorship.
Today, Tuesday December 23, 2014 Linton officially took the oath of office and got his instrument of appointment at the State House in Roseau.
The ceremony took place in the office of President Charles Savarin in the presence of Linton’s wife and two hand-picked media houses, state-owned DBS Radio and the Government Information Service (GIS).
“I don’t feel good about it, I don’t feel good at all,” Linton said at a press conference at the Prevost Cinemall after the ceremony. “I see more and more evidence that we are living in a police state, a state of dictatorship, in a state where those in authority feel the necessity to abuse their privileges and to abuse their powers. And I don’t think it is a good thing for Dominica at all.”
Linton had earlier told privately-owned Q95 that he was told because of “space constraints” only the other five elected members of the United Workers Party and his wife could attend the ceremony. He said he was also told that only DBS and GIS were invited to provide coverage and he could invite Marpin, if he was so minded.
He said after careful consideration, he decided to invite journalist Carlisle Jno. Baptiste instead.
Jno Baptiste freelances for a number of media houses in Dominica, including Dominica News Online.
However, Jno Baptiste was prevented from entering the State House on the basis that his name was not on the list of invitees.
“I had one option and that invitation was declined.” Linton stated. “This morning at the President’s office, he was denied entry claiming that he was not on the list.”
Linton said Jno. Baptiste informed him of the situation and when he went to smooth things out, the President said that granting him access was not going to be possible.
He said he has to apologize to Jno Baptiste “for inviting him to a function that he could not come.”
Linton noted that he will always remember the incident as Opposition Leader and he also told the media “to take note.”
“I will always remember this as Opposition Leader,” he said. “Because my first act as Opposition Leader to invite one member of the media to attend the swearing-in ceremony was denied by the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica in this season of peace on earth and good will to men, in this season of olive branches, in this season of let’s move on. I ask the media to take note of that because it will accompany me through this term.”
Linton also questioned why the ceremony was not held in the State House Conference room but the President’s Office.
He said now is the time to calm down.
“I think we need to calm down,” Linton stated. “I think we need to remember what the party in government is trying to let us remember, that election is over and as they say it is time to move on.”
People of Dominica, you voted for Skerrit when you were sucking salt, soon you will be eating dirt. The writing is on the wall.
THE Marigot people just land here, they never learn to speak the English language or the creole.they are in a world of their own,you tell them what to do and they just carry on with it no question ask.James use them to his advantage and now hand them over to wild Linton. madam speaker, will the gentleman get to the point or sit down. The House adjourned sini die because the gentleman is out of order and take his followers with him,we are in for good laugh
Alas, poor you. All this hate because labour was rejected by the community of Marigot?
Lennox, brace yourself for what is upcoming. These people are about to make your life a living hell.
One thing ya’all got right is to this man Mr Lennox Linton in ya’all writings cause he is really a mister among misters.
I am seeing many comments about Mr Lennox Linton saying this and that about the state house and now he has to go swear there. But I have two scenarios you make your choice which is the more flippy floppy.
Scenario 1: Lennox and others criticized the building of the state house based on priority of the spending of 27 million dollars on the state house instead of things that are able to bring revenue to state. He was invited there by the President to swear in and had no option in that matter.
Scenario 2: Skerrit and his ALBA friends lambaste the US calling them Yankees and saying they can shove their visas where the sun doesn’t shine. 2 weeks later he flies of on Christmas holidays to join his family in the same US by choice.
Make your choice now………
This is a time for cool heads, time to stop think and analyse. Law is a tricky business. Lennox, do not allow emotions to sway your utterances, but stop and clearly plan the chickens are coming home to roost.
Mr. Linton, I read this article and it almost brought me to tears.
Be vigilant, be alert. They will try to frustrate you. Keep a cool head.
I hope the Americans like Dr Finn and Teacher Glen and Cuthbert Joesph and all the others who are supposed to be sensible and be able to reason will read and analyse this.
I wonder if they feel satisfied that they did the right thing to come to vote and leave. They have contributed to all of this. They help put Skerrit back in power. The cry of the Dominican people are now on their shoulders.
Dominicans , let us join forces and pray for our country.
If Mr Skerrit thinks he is invisible he will soon learn he is not. I want to make it know that God knows his heart and his intentions.
His days are numbered.
Stop and think Dominicans if this man can be so disruptive as an opposition member when he get in whatvwill he do. It appears that he does not understand protocol how can you invite someone eithout pre warning those involve are you for real. This man is the joker in the pack of cards
You stupid or something. Your prime Ministers and his dolly house playmates are trying to keep a good man down. Fair is fair what is good for the Goose is good for the gander. Lennox will rise and he will defend and give Dominicans what they truly deserve which is respect and try to free us from this Slave trade. I feel so sad but yet happy that we have a strong opposition that we will not just sit and agree about whatever Skerrit say goes.
“We should ask, is Linton really interested in Dominicans as a human being with a heart or is he looking for fame and to be continuously in the limelight. Linton we are not in Hollywood”(Zuma).
Zuma, only a fool, an idiot would ask such a stupid question!
And so I ask you; are you interested in Dominica; and if you are, I suggest you express it in words what exactly are your interest?
Lennox looking for fame?
Ridiculous, what sort of fame can one gain from politics in a rotten, corrupted backward place such as Dominica? If there is any fame to be gained, Lennox gained it a very long time ago when he exposed the corruption he found in the thievery of the many hundreds of thousands of dollars your god’s stole from the people of Dominica. They pretended they were purchasing trash bins, at hundreds of dollars per piece, when in fact the trash bins could be bought in retail stores such as Home Depot and others such stores for less than US$20.00 dollars an equivalent of EC$7.41. Had it not for the fame of Lennox in this case, the thousands of dollars he caused to be returned to the government treasury would be in the pockets of some thieving politician in Dominica which idiots like you revere!
Such are the realities in our country, nevertheless, idiots like you are not concerned, as long as you can go to the red clinic, and crawl on your belly like a red crab, and Skerrit feed you for a single day, you are prepared to help him keep the country backwards, so you can continually visit him kissing his butt, because you do not wish to sweet to be able to make an honest living, your kind has no ambition and does not know how to make an honest living; you are the same as the thieves who calls themselves honorable. They need to call themselves: “honorable thieves” because that’s what they are!
If Lennox did not have any interest in Dominica, he would have sold his soul to the devil, and dictators of Dominica, and would have remained silent like a fools as you while the members of the labor party gets richer by the day on stolen money, and other corrupt means! Lennox has a reputation, known to be an honest person whom no one has of yet caught in any lie, he is not one looking for fame or trying to be in the limelight, you are such an idiot you do not even know the meaning of limelight, and when to apply it. If you believe Lennox wish to be in some sort of limelight, only an idiot like you would not realize that every politician in the country, including Skerrit might not be interested in Dominica, but play politics simply to be in the “limelight” also; you see how stupid are? Lennox name is known throughout the Caribbean: Remember he worked for Observer Radio in Antigua, I think his name and voice is better know through the Caribbean than the pathological lairs in power crippling the country.; and mind you When he worked for my friend Ron Abraham at Marpin Television, we watched him on his program What About via the once popular Website Cakafet, right here in Los Angeles California, so I do not believe he is searching for the limelight!
Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
Why isn’t he any more at Marpin. Why has he been deported from Antigua. Why wasn’t he offered a job in dominica . If he was so good as you trying your best to convince me he would be in gainful employment. He came from idle house estate to an opposition leader role which was passed unto him…unlike spags Hector John who campaigned.. So you see who is the fool. Me you or Linton…
Her we go again you fool; if you are going to ask me why is Lennox no longer at Marpin, I can ask you why Marpin no longer belong to Ron Abraham? Marpin is the brain Child of Ron Abraham; which dirty, nasty, jealous, be-grudging Dominica ******** like you stole from him. All of his hard work they took from him, any wonder Marpin has decline?
Let me tell you something fool, Ron planed his business way back in England: in 1976 in Harlow Essex England Ron and I had a conversation in which I told him I was about to return to Dominica, and build a public Radio and Television complex. Ron advised me to go home and build a Cable television station, I guess that was his personal dream which he handed to me. I argued with him that Dominica people may not be able to afford to pay for cable television. I went to Antigua and set up an electronic business instead. Years later Ron went home to fulfil his dream, you dog’s did not rest until you all stole his dream from him!
If I went to Dominica and did as he told me, you all would have done the to me as you have done to him; the only thing is; I would not take it lying down okay; I would have taken my offenders out, and go to live at that place on the hill, I would spend the rest of my life in jail, but those who seek to steal my belongings head would never rest easy while I am alive. The government of Dominica is so corrupt, and bad minded, when Marpin began to fail, and in fact failed, and came up for sale, two relatives of mine, “yours truly” one from Marigot, his mother is from the Telemaque Klan, and another from the Village of Wesley his mother is my biological aunt; their first names I will not disclose so that your curious mind could drive you mad, and I mean drive you insane!
They formed a company, they had all of the money to buy Marpin, and have the knowledge to effectively operate the Station. The bad minded nasty thieving corrupt government ensured that they sold Marpin to some foreigner, or social security crap. I yearn for the day when Marpin will fail completely, I mean shut down completely: the only way Marping will ever become a successful and viable company ever again is when it goes back into the hands of its originator Ron Abraham. And as to why Lennox was deported from Antigua, that is another stupid question,: if by any chance he was deported from Antigua, how come he returned to Antigua prior to him getting elected to parliament.
When one is deported from any country, they are declared “persona non grata:” translation, not welcome in our country. So that is another stupid question you asked. You know scum bags like you only open your mouth to babble, spewing venom based on nonsense you all hear people talk, not knowing any better you pick it up and run with it; and say what your masters, and handlers who bought you with a drink of rum want you to say about Lennox; but I must remind you Lennox is not in Lennox class!
I’ll leave you with this, Lennox father was at one time a minister in some Labor Party government, if Lennox was an idiot, and cannot see the truth, and right from, he may have conclude “my mama was, my papa was labor, so I ‘is labor too’. ” If he was an idiot, Skerrit would have bought him out a long time ago, and indoctrinated him into his cabal. some people are not for sale, and cannot be bought at any price, and Lennox Linton is one of those people who just cannot be bought!

To Mr Telemaque .
Hello and good afternoon my people. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you Mr Telemaque. Sir why don’t you just make your point and stop using derogatory words at people. I hope for the new year you will look into yourself and change your language because I spoke to you in California about your language but you still fail to to take into account my message.
@Tony December 28, 2014
Telemaque was born with that mentality of his–I know from the way he has spoken about his past–even from childhood–through an email forum. That built his existence through compulsive lies, he has an extremely conceited mentality.
As human beings, no one is perfect–but we have the rules of God in Love, by which we can thrive into the perfection of Jesus Christ–that is what God wants from us; we will have no excuse for not being so, when we stand before Him in judgment.
However, everything is wrong with this man–everyone knows it except himself–so how can he ever change?
And by the way, he told us that Lennox Linton is his cousin–it is not surprising that he doesn’t see any faults in Linton either.
Tony I do not know the meaning of the word derogatory you know; by now you know how ” I is a dumb boy!”
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
I simple write it as it flows from within, now if I believe that someone is a fool, based on the rubbish they talk I will let them know that they are a fool.
I d not know how to mince matters, nor do I know how to minimize, or polish it: I have not attended diplomatic school, so what you see is what you get.
Sorry old boy!
Read the post that follow your post that person have written a master piece, I love it so much, that I am giving him a thousand and one thumbs up you should also complement the person for having the guts to recognize the truth.
Respectfully Yours
Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
Mr. Telemacque, in no way should these bunch of thieves be called honorable.
They are dishonorable men.Dishonorable Reginald Austrie, Dishonorable Roosvelt Skerrit, Dishonorable Peter StJean and so on.
The Opposition Leader is just doing what his suppose to do and only knows and therefore will do for another 5 years which is oppose everything thing. This I consider to be dangerous that if it is bad he opposes but more dangerous he will also oppose the good.
Leader of the opposition in this country are not for nation building they keep campaigning until they get into power and the only way they can do so is by opposing.
Parry, I would remind Mr. and Mrs. Savarin that the President’s Palace is not their personal property. They are allowed to reside in that building through the courtesy of Dominicans, especially those who pay taxes. All Dominicans must be welcomed in the building regardless of their political affiliations. Parry should also remind the Lady that Mr. Copiel is a Dominican and that she must behave like Mrs. Michelle Obama at all times.
i think dominica have more fools than anything
@Zuma December 23,2014 “We should ask, is Linton really interested in Dominicans as human beings, with a heart, or is he looking for fame and to be continuously in the limelight. Linton we are not in Hollywood”
I truly like all of that you spoke in your comment below with that quote above to start off your message –you are right on, with every word!
When it comes to “humility”, Lennox Linton does not know that virtue of Life, because it comes through the guidance of God. When it comes to “wit”, that attitude cannot be effective in someone who doesn’t have “charisma” to bring to wit, the light of warmth and laughter –those two are negative in the mind of Lennox Linton–that is factual!
All I am perceiving, from that man’s messages, from the first time I read him, is pride, self-conceit, anger, and hate, which definitely provokes that contentious mentality which Linton possess–That is the reason he is always quarreling about everything and even nothing whatsoever! He has now escalated from bad to worst, and he is going to get worse before this 5year term comes to an end.
To think that Linton was just sworn in as Leader of the Opposition–the privilege to sit at parliament on behalf of those who voted him in–and all he has to say about that appointment or swearing in, is that:
“I don’t like it”–“I will always remember this as Opposition Leader,” he said. “Because my first act as “Opposition Leader” to invite one member of the media to attend the swearing-in ceremony was denied by the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica in this season of peace on earth and good will to men, in this season of olive branches, in this season of let’s move on. I ask the media to take note of that because it will accompany me through this term.” and I will never forget” News Article
With this said, I ask the question: Who is trying to lead the people into a bloody revolution, if not Linton, himself, since he declares that he is going to take that “incident” –his most recent grievance against those whom he will have to interact with –through parliament with him? How many of those kinds of grievance that Linton will continue to build in his mind and to live with them, instead of working on behalf of the people who choose him?
Can we not see that Lennox Linton is not at peace with himself, and most certainly not with God? A person like that has nothing reproducing in his mind, but the things of darkness –a negative production that is extremely bad for those are following him.
I am so afraid that there is way too many–especially the younger generation of Dominica–who are feeding their minds with the attitude and conducts of Lennox Linton.
Linton must come to believe that God is in control–He is the primary controller–man cannot do nothing all in all, without His final say–that say which will give Him the glory and Him alone. The President of Dominica did nothing that God did not command him to do, and against the rudeness of Lennox Linton.
When it comes to exaltation, God will only exalt those who humble themselves before Him; for God has spoken about humility and exaltation at 1st. Corinthians 1: 27-31, the apostle Paul says:
“But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty. And the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the LORD
Those who will not take heed of the Message of Life, the word of the God of Spirit through His Person Jesus Christ, those are they who will forever be embarrassing themselves–unfortunately they will never acknowledge that flaw of theirs, the only way that they can fix themselves.
One thing that can not be denied is that Roosevelt Skerrit supporters accounted for only 57% of all votes, despite the many imported voters. That means that 43% of the voters want change and do not support the present government. You can put as much spin on that as you want but that does not alter the facts. Trying to humiliate the opposition and engage in character assassination does not help to smooth out any differences but will only highlight them. if Roosevelt Skerrit wants cooperation he will need a more conciliatory and smoother approach. He does not need more enemies at this stage but his behavior may create exactly that.
How do you become the Opposition Leader?
The Opposition Leader and the Party Leader is not necessary the same individual. That has already been the case with the UWP. The last opposition leader was not the UWP party leader
The Opposition Leader is not an automatic position. The person who commands the majority of support from all the elected members in opposition becomes the Leader of the Opposition.
Could that be why they were not invited when the Leader was taking the oath? Was there someone else the elected members wanted as opposition leader?
Who else could be the Leader of the Opposition among the opposition elected members?
Joshua francis
Zuma, don’t waste your breath. Sowing division is the speciality of Roosevelt Skerrit, contrary to Team Dominica. Your tactics will not work.
It is clear to all but the blind and deaf that there is a concerted effort, on the government’s behalf to belittle Mr. Linton. It lies in the pseudo-innoccuous things like receiving an invitation, not from the President but from the President’s secretary, a claim that there is a space constraint at the State House. The message is that it is the government aka Skerrit is in control and I sincerely hope that Mr. Linton treats these slights like the proverbial duck handles the water on its back.
Remember, a man’s stature is not measured by material things. If that were the case we would not be celebrating the birth of Christ right now, the man who was ridiculed by the Romans and his own people alike as the King of the Jews, yet came to live for ever.
Dictators are little men and their legacy is never a glorious one.
I will not attend a pretentious Christmas service in my church this year, because it would be hypocritical the way I feel right now, but pray in private for the well being of my country and all its people, regardless of which party they support, or none at all.
The Olive Tree is running out of branches – first Olive branch to be broken is the firing of the young Security Officer at Marigot for using his discretion and allowing Linton to give back crab backs to whoever took him to the airport; the second branch to be broken is denying Carlisle Jnobaptiste Lennox’s invitee entry to witness his swearing in; and the third branch to be broken is to insist that Lennox and his party pay all VAT due on campaign material while the tons of material and flare that came in for the DLP was allowed free of VAT, and other taxes. Garcon we good in this country wee!!!
Democracy in Dominica has lost oxygen and is now on life support.
More than sixty years after the Universal Declaration of Human Rights proclaimed the right of every person “to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers,” that right remains in peril in far too many countries, and more specifically in Dominica.
My simple understanding of the role of the free press is the strengthening of good governance, democracy and human development. A long tradition of theorists have argued that the existence of a free and independent press within each country is essential in the democratic process by contributing towards the right of freedom of expression, thought and conscience, strengthening the responsiveness and accountability of governments to all citizens, and providing a diverse guarantee of freedom of expression and information is recognized as a basic human right in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the UN in 1948, the European Convention on Human Rights, the American Convention on Human Rights, and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights. The positive relationship between the growth of the free press and the process of democratization is thought to be mutual. The core claim is that, in the first stage, the initial transition from autocracy opens up the state control of the media to private ownership, diffuses access, and reduces official censorship and government control of information. The public thereby receives greater exposure to a wider variety of cultural products and ideas through access to multiple radio and TV channels, as well as the diffusion of new technologies such as the Internet and mobile telephones. Once media liberalization has commenced, in the second stage democratic consolidation and human development are strengthened where journalists in independent newspapers, radio and television stations facilitate greater transparency and accountability in governance, by serving in their watch-dog roles, as well as providing a civic forum for multiple voices in public debate, and highlighting social problems to inform the policy agenda.
Given the events surrounding the swearing in of the Honorable Lennox Linton as the opposition leader, raises several questions that pose a very serious challenge, as well as a threat to the maintenance of these noble principles of that relative concept, that we so glibly refer to as democracy, particularly in the case of Dominica.
The press been the medium by which information between the governed and the governor, is generally one of the first institutions to be undermined by potential dictators, in their effort to control information, and to disseminate propaganda.
Let us look very carefully at the request or should I say directions from the president, to Mr. Lennox Linton, a duly elected person by the constituents of Marigot. In effect saying that due to constraints of space in a newly built facility costing the Dominican taxpayer well over $30, million, only about twelve (12) persons could be accommodated, and that he Mr. Linton could bring along some one of his choice from the media, “Marpin2K4” a media house owned by the government. It is worth repeating here that the President was directing that the journalist Mr. Linton was allowed to bring would have to come from the government owned media house.
To demonstrate how serious he was, he refused Mr. Linton’s choice of an independent journalist, who as far as I am aware is not aligned to any political party, but just a freelance journalist, and the President refused this journalist entry to the people’s r4sidence, so that the swearing in of the people’s representative could be reported to the citizens.
This by the way is the same person who had the country shut down for 47 days over what the passing of a piece of legislation at the time that was viewed as restricting freedom of the press.
But that was then, Oh! How times and positions have changed.
Here the press has an opportunity to demonstrate that it is worthy of the term journalism. This issue needs to be regionalizes and internationalized. I would have thought that the so called press in Dominica would have called on their counterparts around the world to shed some light on this dark period of Dominica’s history, as we descend deeper into the throes of dictatorship
I want to entertain the premise of your argument for a free, fair and open democracy for a moment, ably supported by a free press. But I notice, significantly, you say nothing regarding the equal importance for responsible reporting by the media. Where a free press is a necessary instrument of the democratic process in a free society, that same press – and those who practice within its ambit – have as their responsibility to be scrupulously devoid of bias. In fact, they have a responsibility to seem to be non-partisan and doggedly objective in their reporting. To seem otherwise does not advance democracy.
In the instance pertaining to the swearing in debacle of the Leader of the Opposition, you would have to be living outside of Planet Earth to ascribe the desire for honest and objective coverage of the swearing proceedings by Mr. Linton. His choice of media personality – that’s what Carlisle is – and his motives were impure, and that is putting it mildly.
But more than that. The actions of Mr. Linton is ten times more undemocratic and dictatorial than that of the President in this case. Time and again, Linton shows his disregard for protocol. By his own words, he Mr. Linton was issued clear and specific notice and guidelines ahead of time. Instead of seeking to negotiate in good faith – a skill he would do well to develop for his new role – elements in the guidelines not to his liking, he choose instead the confrontational route. The daring!
Baptists, I cannot find any fault in your comments; very enlightening I may add, nevertheless; there are some idiotic persons who will give you the thumbs down. Those are illiterate people who do not have the commonsense to understand it all; even if you had written your comments in the middle of their foreheads!
Some people has actually accepted the dictator mentality, and has indoctrinated themselves into it. I read where some person commented ” Lennox was told he could invite Marpin.” Why should he be told which reporter, or media he should invite to report on the occasion. In the first place, Dominica is a very small island, with two Cable Television Stations, and about four Radio Stations one of them might be a religion Broadcasting Station.
We do not even have a daily newspaper in the country, to people such as me; DNO serves that purpose, it is ironic that any of the few reporters in the country, should be denied the privilege, and opportunity to be present to witness the official swearing-in of the members of the opposition. When someone say to another person “you can invite Marpin.” That is an order, and not a request, as such that must be construed as a dictator ordering; or coerce someone in doing something against their will, or belief.
That is wrong!
The State House, belongs to the people of Dominica, it is not privately owned property, it does not belong to Savarin, Skerrit, nor the Labor Party, and its members; and supporters, it does not belong to the UWP, nor the DFP. That building belongs to the people of Dominica, and no one should be limited to its use on such occasions. Holding the swearing-in; in his office is an insult, a slap in Lennox’s face, and a kick in the Butt, of the nation. Savarin attitude is that certain areas of “my white house; my state building is off limit to you and the news reporters of the country.” How can an intelligent people of a nation sit back, and tolerate such nonsense? Before long, we might learn that the State House is privately co-owned by Skerrit, and Savarin, and perhaps Skerrit’s adviser, the real Prime Minister of Dominica in the person of the Barbadian boy Hartley, and they are renting it to the government of Dominica
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!
Seriously, something is wrong with the whole issue, these people are acting as if every government building, every bit of government land, and property belongs to them personally, that is why they make everything personal to them, politics is a thing where different factions (UWP, DFP & the DLP) will forever have different opinions on many different things, that’s the nature of politics. However, the Dominica politicians take it beyond politics, by creating hate among each other, this hate spreads among families. Right now I have brothers and sisters residing here in the United States, I have not heard from them for a very long time, and I am not going to pick up a phone and call not one of them; because I know they are fuming angry with me simply because they are pro-Skerrit, and I am none partisan, as such I will continue to critique Skerrit and the Labor Party any, and every time they step out of line; am simply a protector of Dominica. If they want to be my brothers and sisters, I will be their brother, if they prefer Skerrit who is (“me almost nearly cousin) to me who are their biological brother, and prefer Skerrit over Lennox of which our grandmother is his aunt, so be it what can I say.
Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
Frans I am convinced you a raging lunatic. I have said before Lennox deserves what he gets, to be treated with no respect and disgust. He will continue to eat humble pie for the rest of his egoistic life…. He is not humble and he is not very well liked two elements which won’t be accepted in a future PM. And if, he really cared for the people who voted him in he would not even be concerned of the place which he was sworn, in which is why I believe he is all about himself and always looking for fame at all cost… He must get off his high horse and come down to the people’s level…..you must ask yourself really if you see Lennox as a PM…,this is the debate which is at the moment in the UWP camp. Members are deciding what should be done about Lennox …
@Zuma December 28, 2014 “He must get off his high horse and come down to the people’s level”
Zuma Telemaque, himself claims to be sitting on a high horse–how often have I read him telling people on DNO that they are below him. Except that he is forgetting that some DNO readers know who he really is. He is even worse than Linton! The two of them are cousins.
So they are seeing themselves through the same eyes–what they do not realize is, they cannot keep themselves on that high horse, which is built from straw–for it belongs to the world–; they will come crashing down when they are least expecting it. Just wait, watch, and observe!
Well Selected and Written @ The Baptiste. Much of this applicable to this one here, right now. Miracle You Came Through, Loud And Clear. Many Thanks.
There are always two sides to a story. Who is correct and who is wrong? Some people do not look beyond and think further. As much as they think they know it all, some people only view a situation one way. It all depends on whose side they are on. If it were the other way around, their views would be quite different, even by remaining silent.
Some of us have a sixth sense. We are also just in our opinion and are not usually deceived by what we hear and read. When we do, we weigh matters of what is right and wrong and who is correct or wrong for there is always a correct side and a wrong side.
You state dictatorship? I am considering if Linton had won the election how much dictatorship would he have imposed on Dominican residents. Only God knows. People are judged by their overall attitude. I visualize that there would be chaos in the land.
Talk about a sore loser who consistently view such matters negatively. This man is not a positive one. He twists and turns everything to suit him, his mentality and to receive sympathy from his supporters who, in turn, will provide their views according to what they are told. You must be fair and just.
if i were you i would first look up the meaning of the word dictatorship and if you had any integrity you would have commenced your article with the meaning of the term dictatorship. you call a system of democracy a dictatorship, you clown.
i am not reading this. Why did admin post this. This is ridiculous. Why didn’t you right an article instead mr. Baptiste?
Listening to the Heng this morning; it appears the Leader of the Opposition chose not invite the other elected members of the opposition and chose to bring the uninvited news reporter instead and comes with a distorted press conference of dictatorship. Why didn’t he extend the invitation to Marpin, He said he was
Why should he be limited to just Marpin??? Why should there be any restrictions on media attendance for the swearing in of a member of government? This must strike you as a bit bizarre. Whoever you support, you must admit that this is not a normal practice, or one that we want to uphold.
He has no choice my dear he is not the PM he is in the op Po Si tion get that into your sculls the opposition, that’s why he opposes and that’s what he will continue to do…. He will always be told what, when and how to do in the presence of the PM and the President, and if he does not like it well then he has a choice…you see my point…
I’m even at lost, listening to Lennox Linton some months ago claiming that Mr. Charles Severin was an illegal President so I cant see why he should be even taking the oath before the illegal president as he claimed. Lennox believed that he could do anything as he wished in front of the illigal president.
Why don’t you try to educate yourself?
You lack commonsense, the procedures used to elect a President of the country was not legally followed by Mr. Skerrit. I have a problem with you: You are one of those people who simply talk off the top of your head without any sound concept of what you are rambling about.
Skerrit gets away with everything because the law’s of our country does not apply to him, and that is all due to a corrupt judicial system. In another country Skerrit would be charge with treason or some other high crime, whereas in Dominica he steps on every law of the country.
It is ironic that the judicial system was quick to send Patrick John to jail for a meager $3.00 dollars he could not account for, yet we have a man who has broken the so many times and simply smile at the paid corrupted Judges, and magistrates who allow him to get away with the most vicious crimes he commits.
When someone said: “No law; or the constitution can prevent me from becoming Prime Minister,” and not even facing a judge, and was set free knowing he indeed broke the law of the land in regards to his true nationality that speaks volumes, that is an indication he has every officer of the courts, and the Dominica judiciary in his pocket.
I am not suggesting that Tony did not do his job, he did, using some cynical tactics: However the Judge was corrupted and allow Tony to get away with his methods of defending Skerrit, but if that case was appealed to a high court where Skerrit has no influence over the Judge, Skerrit would have lost, and all of whatever he presided over, every contract he signed with the Chines, every appointment he made would have become null and void.
You need to educate yourself on the issues before you talk; you make no sense whatsoever!
Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
Seriously? He was “TOLD” who to invite. How can you tell a person who to invite to his party?
Linton stop crying for god sake, and stand up and see how u can move your party forward ,every time u spend time crying labour one head of u ,forget the state house i have always known is always in the President’s Office in morn Bruce all misters took there oath ,now de same state house wee u blast so much now u want de same Conference room hahahahahahhah take what u get
Do you hear yourself? “Take what you get”?? This is why Dominica has NO standards and will continue to be the laughing stock of the Caribbean. Something as simple and routine as a swearing in, has to be impacted by the far reaching double standard. Linton won his seat like every other member of the parliament, so do explain the reasoning why he should “take what he gets”. Be reminded that ALL Dominicans are paying for that State House. It is our money so we should have the right to critique its use, and have usability of the building equally.
Dominicans really need to search themselves to identify where this spirit of “take what you get” comes from. If people are not encouraged to speak out in a democracy, decry something when it is wrong, and continue being treated like a respectable citizen, then have truly learned nothing from our painful past!
It should have taken place in Parliament, the House of Assembly. Did it have to be at the State House. Oh boy! Considering this, if it took place there, there would have been a worst outcry from him.
Mr. Linton, get it through your head “You are NOT the Prime Minister of Dominica”!
But you clearly must be the chief beggar of the Red Clinic. Keep your wisdom to yourself and kiss your leaders rear end when he is back on the island again. You make me sick!
the psycological anatomy of a labourite
Yes Sir, they have their cloaca close to their lips!
Politics unusual…umm as usual.
sing some more calypso bro.
Mr. Linton, you are demanding that the State provide you with certain concessions at your swearing. Why? What are your motives? You had a well prepared speech to go after the President in his office? Because you cannot get who you want, you are crying dictatorship. Hector “Spaggs” John, former Leader of the Opposition in the UWP must tell us how many times the dictator prevented him from speaking at rallies, press conferences, meetings of the party. You are really changing things around here. This is the first time that he incoming Leader of the Opposition is making demands concerning who he would like to be present at his swearing in. Ask Mr. Edison James how many people were present at the three opportunities when he served as Opposition Leader. It was always a private arrangement. I notice you could not wait to leave the office and the dry, emotionless handshake. It really took something of you to first of all go to the “Illegal President” to be sworn in as Opposition Leader and secondly to contain yourself given the refusal of your reporter to attend your swearing in. You should not have gone to the swearing unless your demands were met just as you wish.
Some Dominicans will die ignorant these people forget the things Charles savarin did in Dominica with civil servants and the other union now they are soo scared to demonstrate and listen to the things that’s right for them I just can’t understand where their brain is and now he is President of our little island Dominicans wake up before it’s too late
At the time, As President of the CSA, he was fighting a just cause, the Govt. of the day was about passing some draconian laws which would muzzle the workers and the media. People would’nt beable to vent their speech in public.
The answer to the question: “where their brains are”, all these people appear to want is Rum, Beer, and Seewhoe, give them those three things in any combination and they sell their hearts, minds, and souls,,,
A backward people always reward wrongdoing
They are sitting on it, their brain.
what is the problem here LL is not the PM in the USA the only person you see sworn in is the President everybody else goes into a litter room with there wife only. we are just people who like do what we want just remember Linton dost set the rules in Dominica the only change I see we need in Dominica is a new party
Congrats, you in the hot seat now Linton. You took your oath from the illegal President. You were asked to invite Marpin if you wish, you decided to invite your friend Journalist, he was not on the list Marpin was. Ok you invited Carlisle instead but did you inform the President’s Office of that choice, NO. Once again you wanna do things Linton’s way; sir, learn quickly, that will never fly. go back in history have you ever known the swearing in of the Opposition Leader equal to that of the PM, NO. the respective offices are not equal ok. Yes, there is need for us to make some changes but you seem to think that you can force those changes down our throats because it is you. Do you want to swear in your senators at the Windsor Park Stadium too? hahahahaha. Have you now recognize the serving President? You cannot just invite who you want to the President Office for an official function bossman, there are protocols that you MUST follow. Stop crying and learn the rules quick or you will embarasss yourself in the Parliament. Who did Edo, Earl and Spaggs invite? did you hear them cry about it. NO. Boss grow you cannot have your way bro there are rules. You go out to smoothen things; nonsense; that should have been done before sir, with one call to the President Secretary, foolish man.
Section 44 of the Constitution requires each member of the House to take an oath. Section 65 requires a Minister or a Parliamentary Secretary to take 3 oaths before entering office. In the case of the Leader of the Opposition, Section 66(1) only requires that he be appointed by the President. Unless there is stipulated elsewhere a requirement for such oath taking by the Leader of the Opposition (of which I am not aware), it seems to me that Hon. Linton could have told the President that he would only attend such a ceremony after arrangements for that ceremony were agreed between the Office of the Leader of the Opposition and the Office of the President.
You presume The President would act in the correct and proper manner. Not a chance. Then the accusation would be that Mr.Linton would not be sworn in.
This matter was a. Correct following of the constitution .The Elected representatives should have been treated with respect
Not the whim of El Presidento
Once things dont go mr linton way dats how he behave well i can see u gettin thrown out of d house very regular
The same state house you did not want to see built you want to use it’s conference room? Men i must say you have some big ones. You are not running the operations of Dominica so take what you get. Keep in mind you are just the opposition.
Proud as a peacock, wanting his way and no other consideration, he lacks humility.
From baby sitter at TM center 1970’s to radio employee to DCP -CP- Marpin – Starlight columnist Tropical Star to radio host Antigua-Idlehall Estate to Leader of the opposition.
Boy Have I changed the colour of my Parachute.
Now this is beautiful. And the once too-long idle Linton can boast himself the LOO in Dominica!
Lets face it people, Dominica is a truly a mature democracy! A place where the likes of Mr. Linton could lambaste and vilify the head of state – indeed every institution of the State – unrelentingly. Accuse them all of every type of malfeasance, nonfeasance and criminality; and still contest elections that were free and fair and harvest the fourth most important office of the land that he would want to destroy.
What the h… am I doing in foreign? Now I know – maybe too late – that if you can make it in Dominica, you can make it anywhere. At least for Mr. Linton, things are not looking so bad at all. The skies are certainly the limits.
Mr. Linton, no more pussyfooting around. You said in your press conference yesterday, “It is time to move on.” I myself take you at your word. I understand you to mean that you are prepared to help govern our nation with maturity and responsibly. We need you to go in the House and kick some &^).
Light some dife under this government once and for all. The people are watching and waiting.
He should get from Edo how long he served as Opposition Leader,. Linton was expecting to come straight from Idle Hall and jump right into the Prime Minister’s chair
Yes, didn’t he do well!
The result of this election is really causing havoc to our once peaceful land. We need to find that peace again within ourselves and towards each other.
ONE LOVE
before we can find peace ,we gottta clean that crooked government
why is it that this blessed country is becoming like a war zone in some eastern countries? politics have the country divided so that no matter what is right or wrong as long as is my party i agree with it. i think the country needs a week of prayer and fasting. too much nonsense. wrong is wrong and right is right. both sides need to stop the nonsense and act like professionals.
Dictatorship clearly falls on Linton. Let common sense prevail. His choice was not on the list and was therefore denied..
At the last minute you cannot seek your personal preference. You must be held accountable for your actions if you disobey to follow protocol and no one else.
The same person who performed the PM’s swearing-in is the same one who performed yours. What is the problem?
Now you begin to talk like a fool. The poor will always be with u
I really do not believe the reason given or the excuse given by Mr. Charles Angelo Savarin. This is nothing more than a spiteful act coming from a mind filled with malice . the world is a cycle .This Govt. is incapable of sincerity, when they offer an olive branch one must look out for a dagger. labor party continue to be malevolent, your ill will , will be your own undoing. Honorable Lennox Linton this fight, this struggle will only mark you for greatness ,this is your fire of baptism, sometmes it will become lonely but when it does look up to the rock that is higher than you. stay the course and you will triumph because as the darkness flee before the light sowill the evils which you confront and fight. God’s blessings upon you & your family and the patriots.
Why does everything have to become an issue with the UWP? so far every little event has been taken personally and has made Lennox into a victim. Why cry wolf when there is no wolf around or in sight? smh
Because THEY dress in Sheep’s Clothing

This is what those UNEDUCATED labourites have done to our country!
Amen to that!!!
‘An optimist may see a light where there is none, but why must the pessimist always run to blow it out?’
The above originates from Rene Descartes, but bears significance to Dominica’s current circumstances. Try as they may, neither the current occupant of the Presidency, the office of the Prime Minister, the head of the Security Services, direct beneficiaries of the Current Government’s mis-behaviour cannot, will not, stem the growing tide. Dominica is changing. The Labor Party had hope this would be a repeat of the peri – procedural of 2005 and 2009. Fortunately, and to Dominica’s benefit, those desirous of change have few physical wants, those antagonizing change have a unending need for great possessions.
To those who plan to respond to this post: Remember! it is not what happens to you, but how you respond to the event!!!
Move on Linton. You really need to move on.
How do you expect him to move on when the supremo is setting up road blocks in every direction?
Move on to where, wonder what would you say to, Marcus Garvey, Malcom X,Haile Selassie and the likes,,,
@ RastarMan, Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X were liberators. The UWP though out of office is an oppressive party, it is the only party in the history of Dominica that is demanding jail time for people exercising their right to vote.
The closest Dominica got to ditatorship was with Patrick John, when due to public critism he attempted to pass laws to restrict freedom of expression. In the last parliament the government had a 18 to 3 majority and inspite of critism coming from all direction no attempt was made to restrict freedom of expression. It looks as if once someting is done that does not find favor with the opposition it is called ditarship. Dominicans be carefull what you wish for….
Linton, brace yourself for it is not going to be easy in parliament. These …. are going to do their best to frustrate you and the other members of the opposition. That is the type of state we are living in.
And all them dum dum ini cans let them shout hooray for their king skerrit.. in due time they will start to feel the pinch and beg you for help.
It is sad to see and hear all these people doing their best to stifle you when you are out there fighting for all of them…it’s a damn shame. They will continue to live in there misery.
By the way, don’t forget that the president acts on the pm’s advice, so we all know who is behind all of this crap. Skerrit is going to remind you everyday who the pm is.
MR Linton don’t forget who was skerrit best friend Hugo chavez. so he is very well trained ,believe it there is a lot more to come. this guy is the most corrupt prime minister I have ever seen. keep ur head high mr linton we love u and the uwp team one love my brother.
you must not mess with gods children
MR Linton you have the nerve too dictate which room in the state house you want to be in. The same state house ,you didn’t want the government to build and criticize And campaign soooo much about.enbeh way papa.
so what’s your point Candia; you guys are so empty – maybe like me you are one of many who criticized the expansion and upgrade of Melville Hall Airport and who would have rather have seen the building of an international airport instead. So because you or I or a group of us criticized the renovation of the airport we should not use it and or travel through the airport- how much dumber can people like you be!!! real classical idiot!
Mr. Linton just voted in an election that required his name to be on the voters list before he was allowed to vote. So why would Mr. Linton now a member of parliament want someone not on a security list to be allowed in one of our most restricted places and call that dictatorship.
Mr. Linton appears to want to ignore rules and see how he could break them and then come back and tell us someone is not doing their job properly because there it is he was able to break the rules and no one questioned him or stopped him.
The new Leader of the Opposition must realize as the Opposition Leader he only gives meaningful contributions but must realize his suggestions and contributions will not automatically be used if not in the best interest of the country and he cannot dictate to Government that they should what he wants. Talk of being a dictator. We elected the government we wanted to work in our best interest.
We know it will be difficult for him if he is accustomed to get his own way. He will now learn to sit still and listen to others in the Honourable House and await his term to speak.
And The Eyes Have It.
Doubting Thomas then why did the Supremo Pres give him a choice -if he had is invited list cast in stone why didn’t he just indicate up front these are the three media houses that will attend, period. But you all see only Red poor you.
honestly if that’s the way Mr. Linton wants things to be we are heading for a lost country. What about protocol, but we all know you cant invited who you want at a swearing in. in other countries when you submit your names a background check is made of all reporters and invitees. however because its a small country you have submits name if the name is not on the list that you submit or is allowed of course they will be turned away. what so hard in that. lets move on and build our country lets uphold the law and stop being on the radio and t.v. all the time crying. man up and lets go to work and see how we can work together and build our beautiful country. enough is enough man I fed up with all the yapping .stop acting like a juvi.
Protest action we need a revolution in the land… To much talk!!!
Go and rebel against your abusive parents and don’t come on DNO with your crap. We are in a modern society and not in the jungle. Do things as educated intelligent people.. Get off your wild west emotions.
And to think that 27 people, at this moment, support this childish comment! No doubt that they are children themselves; but Good Lord!
Mi comesss… Ple tar ple twist… Zor ka savar….
One day we most regret
Not all elected ones are leaders and not all leaders are elected. I am a birdwatcher, but I
have never seen a WHARVET in the lead of a flock of geese in Canada.
i
linton u are not yet in the house and u looking for problem, wait to see what ma knight will do when u start yr bulling in the house
Lin you Hearing yourself? – that’s why this Olive branch thing is a joke!! you all out to antagonize Team Dominica is out to raise the bar and to enlighten.
Theses things are so distasteful. Gushhh. Trust me I am so happy I am away from this bull. Dominicans must feel it be no afraid. GOD piece of land is non of ours. Empty we come empty we go. So those who think Dominica is theirs for keeps they well wrong. Peace on Dominicans.
anonymous2, I find you to be very insultive, any one can be bought, in no matter what form they are bought, the day will come when we will know peace, the bullying we are asking for maybe right on our beds with us.
you fighting fot the state house now after all what you said about it. Poor linton, feel sorry for me? You not the PM
Miss Eugenia Charles, RIP, must be turning in her grave. Mr. Patrick John must be reaping all the hairs on his head. Wasn’t it Charles Savarin aided and abetted by Dominicans who brought down the Dominica Labor Party led by Mr. John because he felt John was trying to muzzle the press. When he prevented Mr. Jno Baptiste from doing his work as a journalist at a public function like the swearing-in of a man who is the leader of approximately seventeen thousands voters, in my opinion, he is worse then Mr. Patrick John. I wish to borrow a quote from Savarin, if he does not behave himself, the public service will not work, the police will not work, the nurses will not work, the firefighters will not work, the teaches will not work and finally the PRESS will not work.
you make no sense what so ever
Frankly, I always like to leave room for the other side of the story and my comments are relying on DNO’s reporting, but if the report is correct, the authorities are just bringing more attention to the gentleman than warranted. What is the big thing about keeping people out of the swearing in? What harm can be done if the ceremony is witnessed? I can understand that numbers would have to be limited, but to say to the gentleman that he can only bring his wife is stretching it!
We need to walk the talk. If we are moving on we must show that we are, both sides. I don’t think this was judicious at all. We are all aware of all the insults to the President etc. but that office must be higher than the propaganda and insults and not seek to pay back if that is what was being done here! Let’s get the act together folks!
actually HE chose to bring his wife only
LL I why don’t you tell Skrit et AL to go tohell with their ceremony?
Olive branch my big toe. There are no Olive plants on the Commonwealth of DA. The only person in my experience/knowledge who attempted to grow olives on DA was Joseph Azar the Syrian Merchant who live at the Corner of Bath Rd & River Street outside the back street of the Stadium and the bridge going to Goodwill. It did not do well. He settled for grapes.
I don’t think, LL should deal with Olives at all let alone its branches. In addition Skrit’s Grapes would be sour.
Rolling in snow! I concur. Contrary to Miss Saunders’s views The Guys who occupy our principal position on island are not worth their salts in ethics, morals, statesmanship etc Charles is a Clown SKirt to say he is one would be being nice to him bc it’s Xmas season . I know very little about Olives let alone the branches extended or withdrawn. This offer from Skrit is triple standards. If you tell the nation go to hell why offer Olive branches? We can by em in bottles at any Super or mini market.Even 7-11
Skrit should try boiling the Olive branches he is extending like Sorrel then tell us how it taste.
Happy New year to citizens and denizens as well.
Linton is Carlisle Marpin? You were asked to invite Marpin if you minded but you felt like you were the boss and after proper consideration you ignored what was said to you,and dictated to Carlisle you wanted his presence without even informing the Present. So who is the Dictator? You talking about procedure, did you follow procedure?Linton is there a cloud hovering your mind that you are the PM? You seem to have had in mind that your swearing as the Opposition Leader would be one of the biggest thing to happen this 23rd December 2014.Look like you wanted the entire media and the entire Dominican public to be present to witness history. What a joke! What a conceited egoistic behavior. You are really living in a world of FANTASY or Lennox in Wonder Land. Take what you get and be quiet.
Hm. I wonder what it takes to get your comment posted? I guess a rambling, non focused diatribe like “Just Observing” commentator would allow my comment to go through. I have only recently started coming to this board. I have realized that this board does not encourage sensible discourse. I am a bit disappointed. I now understand why Dominica is the way it is. The people who can help Dominicans do not want them to improve. So rather than post sensible comments you post rubbish. Alas it appears that I will have to continue to read this paper for comic relief. Thanks anyway. Laughter is good for the soul.
Linton when you look in the mirror who do you see? Do you expect to sow corn and reap ochroes? Look who is embarrassed now!
LOL, well they treat you like a yard Negro, that should motivate you boss work hard do the right things and you will have the last laugh which I know you could never do, look where you go wrong again everyone and their grandma knows if you are not listed you can’t enter but you chose the least journalist to cover you, you were asked to bring a bigger media house you chose one man, boss when will you get it? and you wonder why you get treated like that.
Three media houses Controlled by the Labour Machine
Actually five: Kairi, DA Vibes, DBS, Marpin, GIS and still they losing ground.
These are lennox’s words. “I think we need to calm down,” Linton stated. “I think we need to remember what the party in government is trying to let us remember, that election is over and as they say it is time to move on.” Lennox, i think you finally got it. Government in power do not and never put the opposition in the spot light.
The President must have felt GREAT to have the man who disrespected him saying that he is not his President and that the STATE HOUSE which he called the state malice was ridiculed by him is the venue in which he had to take the oath. You had to eat Humble Pie believe me guy you must have felt very small to stand by the man you so cruely hated with the good book in your hand. I am certain after five years if you are still in the house you will be a change man.
Zor sort wii…….Linton did not choose the venue zort DUMI IN CANS…..He was invited to do it there so what choice did he have????
And how is it a choice on his side if he is told which media house to invite if he cares to??……and would Marpin come do it for free if he invited Marpin to come film his swearing in????
One thing Lennox Linton is no push over that is one man skerrit cannot break, he will be prime minister someday no matter what they do!
i don’t understand wat the labour government have to do with where Linton was sworn in, Linton u are opposition not the prime minister how do u expect to get the same treatment, just now u will ask for guards to and a gm and a driver to take you to where u want to go to. yes jah somebody explain to linton the difference between the pm and the opposition leader nah i don’t think the guy understand.
Yes,It seems quite obvious that you Do Not understand any of the correct procedures of goverment
I want to make the observation that the only person attempting to dictate here – based on what’s stated in this article – is Linton. Apparently under the illusion that he has earned the right to every privilege that is given to the PM, Lennox decides to do what he wishes, and not abide by the rules of the game. And then in typical fashion cry out for sympathy. Mr. Opposition Leader, when will you follow protocol?
By the way, did the President break any law, or did he go against established norms and precedents? If the answer is no, then what is all the bawling about? Is as if the Opposition Leader was denied what is justly his.
I just don’t get it. What right of Mr. Linton did the President violate? Because if he did transgress any law merited by Mr. Linton, I will be the first to call for the President’s impeachment.
Ok Lennox Linton. Is this the same President you said you did not want when he was nominated and even threatened to take the matter to court so that he would not serve as president? Is this the same Carlisle Jno Baptiste you lambasted at your press conference when he asked you, “If you were to win the next general elections, would you allow that same president whose nomination you declined to support to swear you into parliament? You are now stating that you asked Carlisle Jno Baptiste to attend your swearing in ceremony? Man you have amnesia! You need to do some serious introspection.
We all want to move on and get on with regular life. This is why we need standard processes in Dominica. Too many darn routine issues have to be influenced by one person in power. Aren’t Dominicans of all stripes fed up of this? I’ve heard people complain about all sorts of people abusing their authority in some shape or form. Today something as simple as a swearing in, can’t be done in a regular manner? If its the conference room, its the darn conference room for all similar functions! This is a disgraced and yet another reason why that state house will not stand.
Well, if there were any doubts that Dominica is run by more than one dictator this is the proof everyone need to figure out that we do not exists in a democracy anymore!
There are lots more to come!
Sometimes in our life’s we create the monsters around us; which when they get out of control they turn on the ones who created them. You see, when we talk and say watch out for the devil, many people anticipate seeing, or finding the devil dressed in red, and having two long horns protruding out of his forehead, and possible a pitch fork in his hand.
No such thing; the devil usually comes dressed in suit and tie, using charm, and sweet sounding words. An olive branch was supposedly extended; but we are realizing now that the olive branch was nothing more than a crown of thorns the devil himself extended to the UWP, and supporters. Believe it or not if the nation survives this five years of the labor party without a revolution; we can expect there will no longer be general elections in our country.
We are going to exists under a dictatorship.
Way to go Dominicans, to those of us who soled our soul for a fist full of dollars, house, and building materials, I hope you have a happy life until the next five years when the devil shall again buy your souls, but this time that may not be necessary, since a dictator decides what will, and what will not happen in the country, until then Dominicans, you have to tolerate the heat emanating from hell fire.
And by the way Lennox your wife was indeed appropriately dressed for the occasion, I am happy that she had the commonsense not to make a pappy-show of herself dressing in some kind of Madeira (carnival costume).
Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
Frans my dear please read the article again before making this coper Tigre nonsense statement
Francisco, I always look up to your post. Maintain your integrity man. These comments are young teenagers. Not for grown intelligent men like you. I am referring to comments like that. “And by the way Lennox your wife was indeed appropriately dressed for the occasion, I am happy that she had the commonsense not to make a pappy-show of herself dressing in some kind of Madeira (carnival costume).” That is not like you.
@Lenpro December 24, 2014 “Francisco, I always look up to your post”
Lenpro, I don’t know how you could have found any post of the Telemaque to look up to, in the first place. Much worse for you claim that he is “intelligent” But you are right, this man has the mentality of a five year old boy–even worse than that–because we all find a lot of good things in a five year old boy.
That comment of his, which you pointed out, is nothing, compared to the many derogatory remarks which he writes here–I believer that that man is hungry for attention, he is making sure that he add something that will attract certain readers–but how foolish!
I know, because I am one of his victims–he has written so much lies and made-up stories, here against and about me–I don’t even know why DNO prints those comments of his.
I can see u are day dreaming, Mr. Francisco!
Franco, The Devil’s Colour is Red you said that was the expectation of most people but their colour just happens to be Red LMAO.
Like the song goes the devil is alive.
Just imagine if that man was in-charge. Laud have mercy. U want to have parliament every two weeks, (so when will the work be done) you want to dictate where the oath should be administered, u want to say who should be speaker of the house. What next? When u all should have been in the house allu found it fitting to have peoples parliament. The last budget was debated in a theater. Allu boycotted everything to do with the President. Now who has the last laugh?
But apparently seems like Mr. Linton can’t comprehend. He was advised that he could invite Marpin if he wishes, I didn’t know that Carlisle Jno. Baptiste is the new Marpin…..stupesssssss
So therefore Lennox he did not have a choice to invite who he wanted then the President should just say so and should have invited MARPIN end of story;
Why was LL advised to invite Marpin? They should just go ahead and invite all the Media that they wanted. LL had NO CHOICE in the matter. Is so we Dominicans want things run, we can’t think for ourselves, we can’t have an opinion. As we usually say,”So it is.” We accept everything and we settle for less. I quite agree LL should have informed the president’s office that he was not inviting Marpin and that he had invited Mr. John Baptiste, but all these people who are on here making all these kind of comments and making it look like LL wanted it his way, they need to look beyond that and see what is actually happening in Dominica. It seems we are blind to the lack of principles, ethics and the ways our ancestors instilled in us. Its a new way now, and I don’t see it as a better way.
Keep up the good work Mr. Linton. We must maintain our democracy,at all cost.May God give you the strength to continue to fight the good fight. You are a true patriot. Some of our people are still in denial.Open your eyes my people. We need a few more good men like Linton. Our freedom is being taken little by little. Please wake up.
Sometimes you think things cannot get more bizarre and it does. Why is the President trying to be both Judge and Jury? You gave the Leader of the Opposition the choice of 1 media. You then proceed to tell him which one he should choose. That is not a choice. What are you scared off? You should let people see how magnanimous you can be. I guess that would be too much to ask.
People of Dominica you can see where this is going. The Government is going to try to be the Government and the Opposition at the same time.
It goes like this. “You can be in Opposition. But you can only oppose what I tell you to oppose. If you don’t you will not be allowed to oppose”. Get it.
Here’s my suggestion. Why not get the President appoint his own “Opposition” then he could tell them what to do and everything would be nice and quiet in Dominica.
Seriously, to the legally elected Opposition I say. Please keep the Dominican people informed. Let them know when their rights are being trampled upon. Dominica is still a Democracy and people are watching. The people are depending on you to keep them informed, please do not fail them. We are staying tuned.
It seems to me that the new DLP adminixtration is inviting strife and controversy rather than peace after the 2014 general elections. If this continues, chaos will visit Dominicxa anytime soon. Mark my words; the DLP administration is looking for an opportunity to formally declare a state of emergency in Dominica. Then, that will be the end of our society as we know it.
Linton stop crying for god sake, and stand up and see how u can move your party forward ,every time u spend time crying labour one head of u ,forget the state house i have always known is always in the President’s Office in morn Bruce all misters took there oath ,now de same state house wee u blast so much now u want de same Conference room hahahahahahhah take what u get
‘Linton said Jno Baptiste informed him of the situation and when he went to smooth things out, the President said that granting him access was not going to be possible. He stated that he has to apologize to Jno Baptiste “for inviting him to a function that he could not come.”
Savarin shame on you – a man who came from the Union- the people–that is papy-show you’all and sadly we are all part of that nonsense. Where are you Diaspora voters?
really, really! why a you not asking if linton let it be known that he invited x person from the media in advance so his name would be on the list. crab backs mistake by linton he blames dlp gov. fire at airport mistake by linton blames dlp gov. inviting media and not informing in advance, linton’s mistake blame dlp gov. he lost the election Linton’s mistake blame dlp gov. am i the only one seeing the pattern here?
Nincompoop, did you read the article. John baptist is a freelance journalist whose name was not on the invitee list. Secondly Marpin who was on the list sent no representative, this could be due to the fact that Linton did not ask as he said in his above statement, read before you jump in the empty pool hitting your coconut head on the concrete.
Marpin if you continue to bar Q95 on channel 97 I will disconnect you and put SAT. Be warned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I have the same experience. I will not be dictated to by one broadcaster what and that I should not listen to and at the same time pay in advance for such dictatorship. Government does not own my soul or my mind and I will act accordingly.
bro linton had to inform the president secretary that carlisle was invited instead on Marpin. he cant just show up to the official function and gain entry and Linton cant smoothen things out as if its warehouse disco he invited Carlisle to. that is not Lintons private party ok, think before you type and send.
i will always maintain that is time for dominicans to take to the street it is over due .people it is time to get the to the drawing board.Stop sleeping wake upppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
go by yourself and have five years to do it
ppl like u are one of the reason, that make me think dominica will not be developed
i guess that is just how it is
Oh my gosh Linton! It looks like someone stole your lollipop from you and you will not rest untill you find it. Come on man, give it a rest.
That’s exactly why you will be sold without knowing it.Just remember a dictatorship is not made overnight .It’s built little by little.People like you is going to ask for more people like Lintion.
You people are so sick with those trifle comments, and it is not until something will happen you guys or some member of your family when it will really hit home that our democracy is being undermined in this country.
In 2014 when an opposition leader is being sworn in it is being dictated which media should and should not be there? This is crazy!!!! And since when the board of dbs and GIS boss so eager to have Lennox’s voice or a story about him being aired. They tried to fire Brenton Henry for running a story on Lennox and now they are the only ones being allowed to be present. Savarin must remember where he came from, how a short time ago he could not even speak. God is in control.. How long…not long.
fool
wey pa..never ceases
Congratulations mr Linton the will of GOD will never lead you where his grace will not keep you. Remember there’s a time for everything under the heavens and I know in their hearts of hearts they know very well that their demise is near and very soon for he who tries to demote others to get to the top will and can never stay at the top when he gets there
so darn true
@ zulu, 5 years is a long time and 5 more years after that, demise for Who?

How many people are you speaking for in Dominica? How many will change their mind because of this in five years?
You mean not even Honourble Lennox Linton’s two children were permitted to attend his swearing in ceremony? Where is Peace? Indeed, this is true dictatorship in Dominica!
What you believe this was, a clown show. What children have to do with that. His granny should come as well oncle, cousin , paren, tangy and nen nen. And who else… You and the Linton cabal is just a pappy show.
Ronald Milner Green is a Dominican politician who has served as the head of the United Workers’ Party.
In that capacity, Green was also the Leader of the Opposition of Dominica from 2005 until 2009, when he lost his seat in the House of Assembly in the general election.
Green is now serving in the Assembly as an appointed senator.
Green holds a B.S. Degree in Health and Physical Education from the City College of New York, a MA in Education from Manhattan College in addition to pre-doctoral level studies at Columbia University.
He was employed by various local NGO’s before he first entered Parliament as MP for the La Plaine consistuency in the 1995 general election.
In 2006 he became deputy leader of the UWP following the resignation of Earl Williams when he became the Political Leader. On August 8, 2008, he was officially sworn-in as Leader of the Opposition
see papa show as to not let media in.
It appears that while Linton is busy preaching peace on earth and retreating to bureaucracy and preparing for speeches in parliament, the other side has no illusions about politics and is positioning for their piece of earth in 2019.
but when skerrit was sworn in as minister of finance it was done in the president’s office… linton want to feel high like he is Prime Minister so he complaining …. you simply leader of opposition what you want all that for .. they should have allowed Mr. Jno baptiste in but did he let them know in advance that he invited him???
That’s not true. When Skerrit got sworn in as PM there were several people present.
And so what’s your point exactly he is the highest person in public office in the commonwealth of Dominican. The others are common folk…
This is not right, the way Mr. Linton is treated by a team of incompetent so call government, and how on earth can a civilized people vote for such a backward political team like the D.L.P can any one recall that after the death of Pierre Charles the President of the day and the then Parl Rep for Soufriere Mr. Baron protest against the appointing of the Vieille Case Parl Rep in capacity of Prime Minister. why were they not in his favor for being PM is not because he could not speak, is not because of his age, is not because his job as a school teacher was not certain before he became involved in politics because of the acid incident in the lab.
I want to know about the acid incident in the lab.
Linton gets what he justly deserves,,, disgust.. He is seen as a trouble maker, seeking fame at the hands of you all brainwashed supporters. You are all a bunch of canterkerous fish mongers, looking for Roro. What joy and cheer did he bring to the Marigot constituency.. What did he give to the less fortunate. To the persons who voted him in. Look at what Joshua Francis did. I believe it’s time you all vote for the rejection of Linton as opposition leader…
Did you read what was stated? It was dictated to Mr. Linton that he could invite a member of the media, and the president’s office mentioned Marpin. It was dictated to Mr. Linton who he should invite. You must be kidding me. Why Marpin? Carlisle is a reporter for the Associated Press and other media houses. Marpin is not. You guys need to stop being so bias. By the way, if you checked when the PM was sworn in, he was not in the President’s office. Did you see the number of people who were present at that ceremony? Get your facts straight and your head out of the PM’s behind.
You said it all the PM, look it up in the dictionary. Whilst you are at it look up opposition as well, they are not the same hense the reason for the treatment of Linton as opposed to the Honarable Prime Minister of Dominica.
We should ask, is Linton really interested in Dominicans as a human being with a heart or is he looking for fame and to be continuously in the limelight. Linton we are not in Hollywood. Wherever you were sworn in should not be the issue. You should be great full that you were sworn in. What’s your reasoning for this comment,.. I know of stories with persons who had only one Sunday best which took them everywhere and it was always clean and still did what they had to do and succeed. Why are you so concerned about the place in which you were received. It’s like saying if you had to choose a barn where Jesus was born and a palace, you would go for the palace, even if you are trying to make us believe you are like the masses, humble, and that you are fighting for whatever you believe we need to be liberated of… It’s not true , we are seeing right through you. You are seeking came at any cost… .. This is so sad, your wife looks embarrassed and I’ll at ease with herself. Why put her through this.. I am guessing that you don’t sleep well at nights… .. Take example from Ghandi, he was a people’s person , natural
,humane and down to earth and he got all what he wanted.. And he was in fact much smaller than you physically, but he was an intelligent, kind and humble servant to his people.. Stop fighting with your ego use your wit..
How important was it for him to be sworn in elsewhere? Yes! He is only an MP not the PM. Yet the PM was sworn n the President’s Office. What makes his swearing-in more important than the PM?
This makes no sense. Linton as a former news reporter, radio personality and journalist should understand how this works.
You can’t just call your friend and tell them to come and videotape it. the proper procedure should be taken. So Linton should have asked Marpin to record his swearing in ceremony and request that the person you want to come is Carlisie JnoBaptiste; so Carlisie would be Marpin’s representative at the swearing in. If he goes by himself without the company’s permission he is going as Carlisie not Marpin or any other news agency.
And now about the space: It’s not PM Skerrit that make the space that he was sworn in small, it the room he was in. Skerrit was sworn in the conference room while Linton was sworn in the President’s office. Skerrit didn’t tell The President not to swear Linton in the conference room. Charles Savarin independently decided to swear in Linton in his office; so it’s not Skerrit’s fault. Not everything will go in Government or Oppositions way. So if something doesn’t go in the opposition’s favor you shouldn’t be screaming “Dictatorship”.
Are you retarded? He was told he could invite MARPIN but he chose to invite Carlisle instead so what is the issue?
Well said! I was going to explain it but you did a much better job. There are ways that things are done and protocol has to be followed. Don’t put blame on Skerrit for everything. There are things that Skerrit does not control because they were in place long before he was involved in politics and Linton knows that, being a former journalist!
you need to shut the hell up,dominica is becoming a communist state by Roosevelet Skerrit and Charles Saverin,The people elected these bastards and the are out of control, but dont worry it will stop soon, where is chavez now?
the seeds that we plant,is the fruit we will cultivate meaning if in a free country we remain on the side not giving voice to the undemocratic practice that pass as normal we will find life difficult as we move forward.there are many examples of leaders that took control of every institution of state in very recent pass.when the people had enough history will show that many regretted their pass passive stance.
What a shame…..The LABOR PARTY GOVERNMENT…… another shame…. sorry I should say the GOVERNMENT OF DOMINICA…..I hope those are the signs that will make the majority realize that we have to break down those barriers if we are to make DOMINICA the best place to live, the best place to work and the best place to enjoy life. That move by the President is reminiscent of the firebombing of GON. One day we will be liberated……. Mr. Linton…… I now believe you are the chosen one for the time.
Congratulations to Dominica’s new Leader of the Opposition. That is a giant step ahead of what we had in the last parliament. At least we expect Mr. Linton to aquit himself in the position as a statesman. One who sees Dominica first, second third. Coming out of the election, Mr. Linton sounded like a bitter loser. Now two weeks later, things seem to have mellowed down and we “move on”. Move on to what.
We move on to an effective dialogue on important matters of state. We move on to ensure that the state apparatus (Parliamentary committees) are fully established and running. We move on to championing the cause of justice and peace in the parliament always. WE move on to recognize that whilst the opposition will have its say, government will always have its way. We move on to recognize that the opposition’s role is not to prevent or stop development. The opposition’s role is to ensure that a wide cross section of thought and planning goes into the development of government projects. We move on in the recognition that 17,000 Dominican voters (diaspora and residents) voted for the UWP and that a significant 23,000 plus voteers voted for the DLP. We move on in the understanding that we operate in a system of first past the post takes pride of place in governance. We move in the recognition that the majority party in the House also has a role to support the majority side when legislation meant and designed to improve the life of the people are brought for passage. We move on in the recognition that the to disagree is a healthy thing. Being disagreeable does not in any way assist ones cause. We move in the recognition that the elections are over – a government is in place and the duly elected leader of the minority party in the house has taken his important place as Opposition Leader in the House of Assembly. We move on in the recognition that President Charles Savarin can also do good things when he administered the oath of office to Mr. Lennox Linton, a man who once described him as an illegal President and who threaten to remove him from the State House if and elected to office as President. We move on to recognize that DOMINICA is bigger than all of us. It is yours. It is mines. It is all of us. Let us move on. Bickering, name calling, denigrating, misrepresenting the truth and in fighting will only make us poorer. Dominica is richer if we pool our resources together. We have a country to build. I hope that I did not miss represent Mr. Linton’s remarks when he said “I think we need to calm down,”. “I think we need to remember what the party in government is trying to let us remember, that election is over and as they say it is time to move on.” Next stop. The High Court if and where necessary – Grand Fond. I recognize th eright of the UWP to seek redress in the duly establish arbitration body. The streets must be the last resort and even then we must adhere to the law of the land. Certainly we look forward to multiple stops over the next five years at the House of Assembly to conduct the people’s business. So we move on.
I believe it’s time you move on and remove the biasness from your reasoning and stop being an ignoramus.
Charles Savarin as Head of the CSA moved on to the streets demanding 100% increase in pay ,he moved with such momentum that even President Degasson had to flee the Country and live in exile and later on Prime Minister Patrick John was stoned out of Office .Many Labourites were threatened .As Minister of Labour Charlo denied any raise and as a reward He was elevated to President. Now He is President in the back pocket of Roosevelt Skeritt how do we really expect Him to act or rather react?
If I had to give an award for the most cunning Citizen I would choose Him and Skeritt would be His running mate .
The writing is on the wall they are acting in the very way that historians have already written about and it is not about being magnanimous like Mandela but rather like the Scoundrels Qaddafi,Mugabe and the likes!
But we cannot move on leaving your dirty lenning behind as if you all are so clean, we know that’s your ploy but the majority of Dominicans are on to this one. Your vindictive and coniving ways are being displayed every day on the supporters of the workers party. Your prime minister Is so damn wicked and dictatorial that he victimise even the poor and lnocent that he perceive to have voted against him. You are just an agent of this wickedness and you come here talking about moving on. What hypocrisy… shame on you.
Obviously you support democracy, which is mob (or majority) rule. The democratic process is something else. In a Republic you have equal consideration given to minority factions. In a democracy, you run over the opposition.
Are you thick or something? Have you never heard of a democratic republic?
If this labour party did not start well do not expect them to end well, they are beginning to crumble from the inside.
Just Observing, you said, ‘SO WE MOVE ON.” What exactly should we move on to? Should we move on to a country where the citizens have absolutely no say? I do not know if you are, but Lenox Linton is a citizen of this piece of rock and he has every right to voice his opinion anytime he feels he has been wronged by a government which is slowly assuming absolute power.
This piece of rock doesn’t belong to Mr. Skerrit and his supporters. This land is our land.
I think you are one of those significant Labour Party operatives who have been hired to execute this last leg of their malevolent scheme to steal the elections. Your role now is to try and pacify the people into an acceptance of their fate of being ruled by and illegal regime. IT WILL NOT WORK!
Two weeks after the general election and Mr. Linton is yet to concede defeat and congratulate the Labour Party as the elected Government. Is this man an honourable person?… awa.
How can Mr. Linton concede defeat when He not only won His seat but the UWP won twice as many seats as they had before? He has every right as a New Parliamentarian to feel not defeat but a sense of accomplishment a sense of success for having brought His Party forward and strengthened it’s position as the Official Opposition. The DLP under Skeritt should not be congratulated for many reasons, too many unknowns.”Where is all that money coming from? We know the response “Is not Your damn business where Labour party getting it money from!Go to hell ,go to hell ,go to hell.
Would You congratulate based on that response?
Mr Linton is not a hypocrite…………if they had won fair and square he would have congratulated them, but the way things were done…..oh no! But the God above is in control, He allows what He will and nothing escapes Him.
Is their any reason why you can congratulate them yourself I would suggest you post comment that have no merit to it, open your mind and take up reading especially election results especially in the USA , since those of you keep compering Dominica to the USA, and that’s why you get such low comments you do not make sense.
And what you are trying to do isn’t an avenue of dictatorship Mr Linton? By trying to shove down peoples throat your ideologies? By doing things your way even when the masses are clearly not with you? You are the dictator…. Stop your idiocy and foolwangery….. You’re speaking as if you are the majority and not the minority. Stay in the yard and clean it…
From your comment, its not hard to realize how brainwashed you are. But its just a matter of time before you wake up and smell the stench that coming from your DLP government and trust me it will be too late.
Are you stupid?
Lennox u are not the Prime Minister of Dominica so chill out brother!
You know if I was workers, I would not try to change Dominicans, all you well spoil. I would not waste my time and energy with some of all you, cause from since Skerro come into power some of all you walking around the place like head less chickens. Take a page from the French, Bajans, Antiguans, Jamaicans, ect. these people would not stand for all those nonsense that happening in Dominica.
Linton who jar bless know man curse.keep your head high and God will take you to higher land.
A jar of jam ..the word is Jah. You can’t spell
Mr Linton, when I was a teenager my friends said that rules were made to be broken. when I grew up, I learned that rules were made to be followed.
They asked you to invite Marpin if you wish which means that Marpin is on the list. As usual you choose to do whatever you wanted. When you did not get your way, you upset.
You going into the House of parliament now. There are so many rules that they made a book. I see problems ahead.
I see problems too ,while there are all these rules the Speaker of the house allows Roosevelt Skeritt to break them as He pleases and interprets rules to silence the Opposition ,She must go and I see lots of problems if She stays!
That’s what dictators do they dictate to you who you should invite and do not allow you to invite someone of your choosing. This is why “”Change Is A MUST'” WHICH EVER WAY IT COMES.
Because the government now has Martin in its pocket????? Let’s them have their way…he won’t be president for all time…I hope he doh end up like mama hidding under her table…time has a way of humbling ppl and those so called elected leaders and, that president will have theres
Our problem is, we have too many functioning illiterates in this country. A democracy without a free press is doomed.
A free press is the eyes and ears of any democracy and any nation which picks out how news should be covered is not democratic. Wise up. We are slowly losing our freedom of expression.
Do you know what dictatorship means or what does dictators do, I can see you a lacking that knowledge and I suggest you educate yourself if you can go to the library to see if there are books that will be able to help you to understand more, then and only then you will see how your comments are off but it’s your comments Too Hard Too Long.
Ha ha ha
This is ridiculous. You are advised that you can you can invite one other media house provided it is the one nominated- and owned by the government. That is not an invitation, is it? Suppose you are invited to a birthday party and you are told you can bring a guest along but only as long as it is a guest already named by your host. I would decline but maybe that is what the President’s office hoped Mr. Linton would do, only to cause more roro. I’m sure that when mr. Skerrit offered that olive branch he knew we don’t grow olive trees in Dominica.
To: Too Hard Too Long.
Hello and good morning my people. First I must say that I don’t reside in Dominica and don’t vote in Dominica. I want to address the middle portion of your post. The Government in office shouldn’t be the one to tell the opposition who from the media they can invite. We are a Democratic Country and we suppose to have a free press therefore Mr Linton can invite anyone of his choosing from the press. The only problem I see is that Mr Linton should have notified the Government in a timely manner of the person from the press that he invited. We can’t be blind and bias and fail to understand what happened is wrong so let’s start the new year by looking into ourselves and be objective otherwise our citizens who reside in Dominica will suffer.
Poverty accelerates under a dictatorial regime. Unfortunately the poverty struck people who could be bought off with pocket change don’t realize this. This is the downfall of DA.
This is just the beginning.
Its been a long time coming
Stop, being a drama queen/king with your false accusations, go read a book and educate yourself on issues before coming on DNO and spewing your fustration
