New UWP leader promises international airport

The new UWP leader addressing the delegates conference on Sunday

New political leader of the United Workers Party, Lennox Linton, has said the development of an international airport is one of the many initiatives that will be undertaken if the party is elected to office in Dominica.

Addressing the party’s delegates conference after being elected leader, Linton said the international airport will be part of a  “comprehensive sea and air access initiative” that will “facilitate more productive engagement with the global community.”

Included in that initiative, will be a Dominica-based airline and a high speed ferry, according to Linton.

As part of its drive for economic growth, Linton noted that the UWP will “pursue an economic development strategy promised on sustainable, innovative utilization of our natural resources to transform our economy from a state of helpless decline to to a level of vibrancy and adequate diversification, able to provide for the current and future needs for our people.”

“To that end we will create an enabling environment through leadership action that carefully connects our vision, our values, our business fundamentals, legislation and incentives to the economic growth strategy,” he stated. “In so doing we will facilitate the emergence of a strong private sector that drives new investments and job growth, that earns foreign exchange and increases disposable income.”

He said the UWP will position Dominica to take a leadership role in technology regionally. “On the technology front, we will reposition Dominica to achieve technology leadership in the region by engaging the highest speed, wireless broadband available in order to enable new cutting edge business development driven by video calling, streaming and data transfer,” he said.

Linton said in the development of the island, the party will prioritize the utilization of Dominica’s human and financial resources of those living in the diaspora, “who patiently await the arrival of a government committed to putting the national interest ahead of personal interest.”

He pointed out that the UWP’s foreign policy will be based on productive engagement with the outside world, with the interest of Dominica coming first and it will be determined by a UWP government ‘and not imposed on us.’

“Let us be clear, foriegn governments around the world are working hard to stamp out corruption, we do not expect their monies to be coming to Dominica for ministers involved in corruption…” he said.

He noted that the UWP will restore the faith and confidence of state institutions, offices and officers of state “to function in the public interest without fear or favor…”

“We will create a Dominica first environment of caring, mutual respect, trust and committment in which nationals and home and abroad, especially traditionally disadvantage groups, can participate fully with their unique talents and backgrounds in achieving and sharing the fruits of our success,” the new leader said. “We will strengthen democracy in government insitutions and civil society organizations while purposefully reducing the size and the cost of government…”

He promised that the UWP “Will not operate with the largest cabinet in the OECS delivering the poorest economic results and managing the smallest economy in the grouping.”

With regard to poverty alleviation, Linton said the UWP is committed to rules-based poverty program which is comprehensive “and free of petty partisan politics.”

“Consequently we will work to provide complete health care and elderly care, housing support and social protection for those in need,” he said.

In terms of crime, Linton said the UWP will “establish and implement an adequately resourced strategic plan for sustained reduction of crime and violence.”

He also said the UWP will move to achieve literacy of the entire Dominica population, improve training and employment of the youth while strengthening youth organizations and provide proper sporting facilities islandwide, among others.

“Dominica can become the best place to live, work and enjoy life in the global community,” Linton said. “We can become a globally recognized nature island democracy, of the people, by the people, for the people, standing tall as a beacon for the advancement of civility around the world.”

But wait awhile…..how will Lennox Linton do business in Antigua on behalf of Dominicans? Will he have Antigua as an enemy?

On the issue of an international airport, wasn’t it the former UWP leader who stopped DFP from getting funding to build one????? Now they have resources to build one. hmmm, strange.

The DFP under Miss Charles did announce that the U.S army was about to start earth moving for an international air port.Mr.James immediately wrote the U.S embassy complaining how the U.S government was interfering in Dominica’s elections.

The UWP administration promised an international air port, they paid the farmers 4 the crops and land, but no money to start air port.

While labour was in opposition they were against the International air port. But I can remember Jan.8.2008 Sean Douglas Government press secretary while highlighting Skerritt’s 4th year as PM.said

“This year there will be a massive private sector investment in the country.”

He did mention China, and Dubai would be constructing the air port.
Jan. 28 2008 Julius Timothy said.

“Unless there is an international air port, Dominica can never go forward, the economy will remain stagnant”
And I believe he was so right,as we all can see there is not much we can talk about re job creation.

    UWP is promising once more

You thought power in Dominica was the preserve of one man called Skerrit? Well you were dead wrong. Linton is Dominican like you and me, why he cannot want power IN HIS OWN COUNTRY. You are sounding so foolish. You are sounding even more stupid than Skerrit.
You could decide that you want power too. It’s your country. I could do it, tom could do it, Dick and Harry also, once you are a citizen of the country.
Why are you all Skerrit slaves lacking in commonsense like that? No wonder Skerrit is insulting all you, and all you are clapping, at his insults.
SHAME ON YOU AND THE CRAP YOU ARE WRITING. Skerrit must be laughing at your stupidity.
You thought Lennox has a French Passport man?

Hello fellow Dominican, I hope you don’t call me foolish to for asking this simple question. I welcome Lennox Linton to the arena to which he has always belonged. Now it is easy to say that one will pursue an International Airport, but I need to hear HOW he will raise the financing to build that airport, considering that he has vilified all friendly Governments that has been a source of support for Dominica? This is what some of you seem not to understand we are not Barbados or Antigua we have serious challenges which will triple the cost of an airport in Dominica due to our terrain. I will stop here for now but look out for many other questions from this blind bat. Oh by the way I am also Dominican.

It is simply amazing the level of dishonesty exhibited by Dominicans. Hear them, what are the plans of the UWP? When plans are presented then it becomes empty promises and pie in the sky. What this tells me is that Dominica are not interested in creating a better country/nation but are content with things just the way they are. Roosie Douglas promised to make Dominica a part of Europe, the most ridiculous promise ever made to the people of Dominica but that was ok. Skerritt has made promise of hundreds of jobs in as many days, this we have yet to see but that is ok. I tell you this country will get nowhere and I feel sorry for the children and future generations.

Journalism is an act of courage, revealing truths in the face of powerful establishments risking jail or even death. Some Journalists often portray themselves as merely asking questions, depicting their own motives as pure in heart when everyone knows a verbal mugging is what is actually taking place sometimes.

These muggings generally take place under disguise. They portray their attacks as an attempt to expose evil doers, persecutors, hypocrites, violators of law, someone who deserves to be exposed all the while enhancing their own image as they assault another’s.

Questions may appear totally innocent, seeking only information but they get to repeat allegation (preferably on television or Radio) while denying they are making it or that they are repeating it for unsavory reasons.

Many people love partisan Journalism disguised attacks because it has an air of legitimacy to it, after all it’s a journalist saying it not a politician, right?

The question that has to be asked is, if a journalists wrap their accusations, allegation and innuendos in disguises, can we then say that the reasons they implicitly or explicitly gave for what they are doing is a lie? That question can only be answered if a “journalist” stop pretending and come out of the political closet.

What exactly is your point? Wasn’t the tax payers money misappropriated in the purchase of the bins? Wasn’t the IRD cheated of tens of thousands of $s in the land transfer transaction? Isn’t there a 2 million plus $ residence in v/case? Are you convinced that the villas, the lilac coloured villas in the north of the island belongs to bubbles? Are you denying that kickbacks are received for awarding government infrastructure contracts? I am asking those questions because I am trying to discover the innuendoes ,allegations and accusations of which you speak. I have challenged in the past those who claimed that Earl Williams had built a million $ house to provide the evidence and they have yet to provide it, that my friend was roumor and allegation. And least you forget tony astaphan was paid by the tax revenues of the country to provide proof of corruption by the UWP and we are still waiting on his findings after 13 years.

well well they totally disregard my parlrep and throw him in a ditch.well i want to let them know that lennox is just full of talk with no action.he is not capable of keeping a job,no one employs him.and all u want to tell us in salisbury is that all u bringing for us?being able to speak is one but performing and being able to attract funds and grants from donor countries is another.lennox has no respect to countries and agencies, who are friends with dominica.he lashes out at alba, petrocaribe, venezuela and china and has a problem with every form of development for this country.he oppose just for opposing sake.for lennox nothing which is done in this country is good.this man is sick.sorry but this is my opinion.

    • Kriptonite
      September 2, 2013

your opinion really sucks – you need to clear your head off the emotional conflict and think clearly. All that stuff about keeping a job ; being able to speak ; attract funds is all kinder garden stuff that the leeches on Kairi wants you to dwell on. Why don’t you call the “deceptionists” on Kairi to discuss the things that matter. Like jobs, poverty, unemployment, Economic prosperity, crime, education. You are living in 2013 , you obviously have access to the internet. Open up your mind and grow up. Move away from the old Labor Party politics of mepwi and deliberate perpetuation of ignorance. where have this brand of politics taken us other than in the pit of poverty and under performance.
Lennox may have rubbed some people badly But who have not However I never heard Lennox oppose countries who are friends with Dominica – that is not true at all. My fellow Dominican referring to the US consulate officers as having Rum Shop talk or calling the Western governments racist for standing against Kaddafi or blatantly disrespecting the Taiwanese can also be considered opposing countries that are friendly to Dominica.
After all is said and done the unnecessary distraction seem to benefit not you , not your children but the likes of the deceitful senior counsels, the self serving lawyers, the self enriching politicians and their mercenaries or cabal. You should be asking the genuine question – not who has a degree, dimples, who speak better, who smile and who doesn’t. ask yourself what do we as a people want – corruption, poverty and unemployment or growth , development and forward movement. Ask yourself whether or not the current administration has shown the capability and if so discuss the issue on this merit. If you are satisfied that the current administration has not then begin to explore your options based on the values of the opposition team. If the opposition team is not satisfactorily dealing with the issues then make a sound decision.

Stop allowing yourself to be the tool to prolong ignorance by those who willfully wish that ignorance persist so that they can continue to flourish and become wealthy on your ignorance .

Being a 3rd generation of a Dominican. I have spent much of my life visiting Dominica. As well of having dreams of quitting the diaspora and returning to my grandparents native land. To use the education and job opportunities I have been afforded, to help my fellow Dominicans to have a country we can be proud of. With the ability to compete with the other islands which are much more advanced. People wants jobs for themselves and the kids growing up. It’s time for Dominica to be place where people are proud to raise there children, and not having to be separated from love ones because the health care, education, housing, jobs and economy are better on other islands in Caribbean, and Europe and North America. Real Dominicans love their country and want to see it return to it’s former glory.

Our people are hungry, struggling even at month end. I want to see Dominica return to being a place where people will be enticed to quit the diaspora and come home. Contributing to building a better Dominica. I feel that if Dominicans want change Skerrit has to go. He has choked the country slowly, and it is time to say no more. This is very simple boycott his rallies, do not put up campaign boards, do not accept the election bribery money. Instead make your discontent known with him. Put up blue rags on your homes to let him see the sea of blue. We want the following ” forward we go, forward we go, and we promise to be what we can be, oh yes promise” our new UWP leader can deliver this for us. Put your trust in him, he knows what the people want , as he has been listening to the people for years! Yes listening not like Skerrit who doe hear nor! You know what to put on your ballet paper?

My take on this… Sometimes persons use impressive words which although some person do not understand but will clap and applaud. But we need to be realistic. There is an economic crisis worldwide. If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

As one reader wrote I think the new Leader is claiming a responsibility that he will not be able to live up too–just like most politicians do. One has to be objective and face the real situation. Another thing, persons must stop being fanciful and trying to impress those who are less fortunate than us educationally. When we speak, we have to be as simple as possible so they can understand.

Securing funding to build an international airport is a daunting undertaking, given the state of global economics and finance. However, these reasons alone should not prevent Dominica from moving forward.
We know that Dominica is mountainous. I think some of us have been so accustomed to sub-standard service in Dominica that we do not believe that better can be done. The roads were once atrocious. New engineers showed us that the sharp corner in Tarreau could be broken down and the road widened. The gradient in back road was also reduced and the width of the road expanded.
That being said, I see no reason why this project should not be undertaken. We just cannot move forward with the state of travel in Dominica. If the constant foolishness that is: Leave Island Any Time Airline continues, we are truly going nowhere fast.
Lennox is correct in looking the use of high speed Internet and data transfer as possible economic ventures to aid Dominica’s growth. Building Applications or (Apps) that can be sold or commercialized can be done in Dominica as well.
Part of being a politician is a sense of grandiosity. That being said, why can’t someone take a stand and get this airport done? St. Vincent is building one. Why can’t we? As citizens of the nature Isle we need to envision Dominica as we would like it to be and go out and turn these dreams into reality. We need to stop thinking that we are everyone’s step child, worthy of hand-me-downs only. We deserve new fashionable clothes too.

Anthony Ismael we are doomed by our ignorance. Lennox mentioned that his administration will pursue an international airport and the labor party supporters choose to make fun of this declaration. Note the same Labor Party promised us an International Airport but because the current administration choose to disregard previous plans and activities by the UWP administration and to blow away almost 200 million at Melville hall they are way to ashamed to admit that the Labor Party vision and action had been shameful and a failure. So what must they do – criticize any plan or effort to right their wrong. This is the level of maturity we are dealing with in Dominica. Seek search and destroy at any cost.

This current Labour Party has no plans or strategy to position Dominica to make positive strides economically or otherwise. Things are done as we go along and even the things which fall into our laps by accident we have no clu how to use them to good effect, case in point the coffee plant. And the mist disturbing part if all this is that it takes a man from Barbados, Heartless Henry to decide what happens in Dominica. Are you not ashamed of yourself for giving support to such a state of affairs in the country which I’m sure you go about claiming to love? It is time we get a leader who is prepared to treat Dominicans as GROWN-UPS. A people who have proven that they can prosper if they are given the right leadership. For the last 13 years we have had a leader who treat us like children giving us milk, butter and cheese. Those he think disobey his command are punished and victimized. Dominicans we can do better than this.

  48. Me again
    September 2, 2013

I think the most important message that must be delivered to Dominica by a political leader at this time is that there is no free lunch. The handouts will not last forever. If Lennox can convince Dominicans that we can have success with less dependence on loans from a government, be it foreign or domestic, he has my vote.

Dominica needs hope, we need confidence, we need government to do what governments do and allow us to do what we do. Governments do things like building proper airports and seaports, that we can do our commerce with ease and efficiency.

Governments develop infrastructure like roads that we in turn can develop our businesses and be more productive at whatever we do. Governments develop schools that we can inspire and educate our kids and ourselves that we know how to do what we need to do.

It is important that we realize that the more government has foresight and is able to lay proper groundwork now, the less we will depend on them in the future. For example, if governments allow us the opportunities to study and become entrepreneurs, we will build and operate schools, security companies and hospitals that you, the government won’t have to worry as much about those necessary and important about pillars of our society.

If Mr. Linton is able to convince me that he is serious about integrity in government, to include fairness in law enforcement, fairness and seriousness where the prosecution, incarceration and rehabilitation of criminals is concerned, and a dedicated focus on the effects of illegal drugs on our society as a whole, then he definitely has my vote.

Changing the prevailing mindset and winning the next general election will be a tremendous task, but I think it is achievable. The DLP has made some serious inroads that will be hard to overcome, Get your grassroots organizations on the move, and send a consistent message.

    Congratulations Mr. Linton. Much respect.

Look, please stop it. We know that we are not going to get an international airport, so don’t do like all the other politicians and promise what you know quite well you won’t be able to keep. We have been promised international airport since the early 80’s and still nothing. I don’t think we can afford an international airport now. Don’t come into the political game playing the same way as the others, with promises and useless crap. We would like a new game plan from a different captain, not the same game plan disguised like a new one from you. If that is the case we can say you are the same type of leader. We need to hear new plans and be able to visualize what you’re talking about. Many have made promises and failed to deliver – I suspect that they may well have been very genuine until they came face to face with reality. I’m NOT a member of any political party however I believe that the current PM genuinely wants more than anything else to be the leader who makes it happen and that if it was possible he would have done. It’s really very easy for candidates to make promises. It would have made more to say ‘I’ll make every effort possible to ensure that we have an IA ‘ or words to that effect. The biggest promise that any political party can make to Dominica and Dominicans is accountability and transparency in government. I look forward to a Dominica where all ministers and senators will be held responsible for their actions. Dominicans please remember one thing, these people are representing us and not the other way around. They are accountable to us. We are their employers. What we need at the moment are politicians who are willing to make sacrifices for love of country and not for love of party.

The Labour Party administration have failed to deliver on this promise because they have been too busy lining their pockets while throwing the crumbs out to us. The Dominica State College is a clear example of the mess they have created. I am kind of fed up of hearing If not Skerrit who. As part of its drive for economic growth, Linton noted that the UWP will “pursue an economic development strategy promised on sustainable, innovative utilization of our natural resources to transform our economy from a state of helpless decline to to a level of vibrancy and adequate diversification, able to provide for the current and future needs for our people.”–News Article

I am not taking sides in this issue because Politics was not meant to be for me. However there are many times that we need to face reality and to ask ourselves what are the men and women of politics really saying to us

I am referring to the term used above, especially the part that says: “development strategy promised on sustainable, innovative utilization of our natural resources to transform our economy from a state of helpless decline”

Well what is this statement saying here? That this supply of natural resource is not available for the now Government of Dominica to use it for the same purpose?

in 1974, when I left Dominica, was the economy of Dominica in its height, and now it is in a “helpless state of decline?

Well that did not seem so to me when I was in Dominica about 3 weeks ago compared to the way of existence that I knew when I lived in Dominica from the day I was born and up to April 1974.

When I lived in Dominica in those days–if I wanted to go the city of Raoseau, without walking there from Giraudel, I had to be out of my bed to get ready for the transport that would live at 7:0am in the morning.

In August 2013, I did not even have to use the buses to go to the city, my family alone owns 6 vehicles among them. Our family now have the basic needs of living in a home-it is so much better compared to the years prior to 1974.

Not only that, I was in Dominica for 6 weeks in 2008 that was the time I noticed the development in Dominica. The fact that I was able to do my banking, through my Canadian Bank, in Dominica, does not make it seem like the economy is in a helpless decline.

I believe that we, Dominicans need some form of training to learn how to put our finances into investment–what we are doing is waiting on the promises of our men and women of politics–who can do nothing for the development of our country, on their own.

Yes! It is true that we are very slow in development, but to say that the economy is in a helpless decline is a statement that is a little bit too hard for me to swallow.

I am sorry to say this but I do believe that Mr Linton is claiming a responsibility that he will not be able to live up too–just like most politicians do.

      September 2, 2013

your family has six vehicles so what does that imply the economy is doin utter rubbish having six vehicle is not indicator of how the economy is doing please think before you speak.we heard the budget speech by the Prime minister that growth was projected for 2012/13 3% rather the economy contracted by 0.1% that a helpless state of decline

Everyone is entitled to interpret what they hear according to their intellect and education , however, I don’t see how interpret the statement quoted the way you have. My understanding of the statement, which I am sure is the correct one, is that the current gov’t is not making best use of the natural resources and that there doesn’t seem to be any strategy for so doing.
Are you sure you want to make a camparism between 1974 and 2013? What did you expect? To see Dominica in the same state as it was in 1974! Well I am really shocked that you would chose to express this opinion in public. You are correct about one though, Dominicans are too dependent on politicians for hand out and this is something that the UWP is seeking to change.

If you have nothing to say it is better to remain mute less people see your dark heart and character through the rubbish that comes from your mouth.

Our overall views and comments are in action. Let us wait and see if this international airport will be a reality.
Ms. Eugenia Charles, (R.I.P.) had made every effort to try to have an international airport built but the cost was too high.
If I recall Ronald Reagan, (R.I.P.), former US President could not financially assist her for this major undertaking which would have cost billions of dollars.
In view of hilly and mountainous Dominica, finding a suitable location to build this airport would also be difficult.
I had heard that an area which was considered then was Canefield. Today, it is predominantly a residential area. Where else could it be built? Surely, not at Melville Hall.

      September 2, 2013

before the UWP lost power to the DLP the land for the international airport was bought everything was in place along with 60% of the money to built the airport was sure as soon as the DLP came into office the idea was thrown out and they decided to spend money on night landing for planes that dont come

then again, change is the only certainty in this world so we shall see

well thats why its time for him to go and for another to take his place. he made promises and he has failed to fulfil most of them while at the same time enriching themselves. if we stop the skimming which is happening maybe we would have enough cash to do certain things, i suspect the corruption and inefficiency might be eating away almost 30% of our GDP

Sounds good. Of course, I am not surprised that there are so few comments (or none at all here), since it calls for intellectualization of the content of the speech and is more than beff. The content of the speech is rich. I am more interested, however, in the how than the what!

A DEFINING MOMENT IN DOMINICA’S POLITICS

What a moment! What a moment! This is definitely, a game changer in Dominica’s politics. There is absolutely no doubt about it. Tony and others may wish to dissect and spin the speech as much as they wish –it is what it is. The winds of change are blowing and picking up in intensity.

By all measure, this was a great speech. A display of confidence but with humility, intelligence, political astuteness, grace, courage, and a strong desire for positive change, a source of inspiration, national pride and patriotism. A dynamic and uplifting speech, laced with moments of deep and genuine emotions, particularly when referencing his gratitude for family support and professing love for country.

One can safely state that Roosevelt Skerrit has never presented a speech of such magnitude at a political convention/conference or anywhere for that matter, partly because he lacks the maturity, communicative skills, eloquence, wisdom, vision, temperament and intelligence to do so.

According to Lennox, while the people are catching hell our leaders are doing well. Our freedom is under attack as our government is operating the largest cabinet and offering the least economic results. They took our money and are enriching themselves. They have paid themselves to lie and now, we are last in the OECS as per every economic indicator. We are last in economic progress in the region but first in the creation of millionaires from public funds, sale of passports to criminals, corruption and bribery.

Lennox sees himself as a leader elected to build a team of good governance and economic advancement. Demonstrating good leadership skills, he called on his colleagues, who contested various positions during the just concluded elections to resolve their differences and put their shoulders to the wheel to build the party and country.

Lennox touched on some popular themes such as the need for Voter ID cards but more importantly the cleansing of the voter’s list. He promised that the UWP will ensure that we vote with our ID cards and the Voters list shall be sanitized by removing the names of all dead people. He promised that together, we shall renew the UWP and together, we will face the future in confidence

The new leader challenged us to rise up and live up to the highest standard of excellence in service to our country. Things cannot be allowed to get worse than they are now, he said. He urged us to put the national interest ahead of personal interests as we collectively work to stamp out corruption in this land in an effort to restore faith in our institutions, public offices and officers.

Mr. Linton stressed his commitment to the strengthening of our democracy and promised that we will not operate with the largest government in the OECS. He expressed his commitment to the development of a human capital program so as to reduce our human capital deficiency

“Justice”, he declared shall no longer sleep and freedom shall no longer weep as we are now going to put our country first. We cannot be asked to accept beggar days for better days. Therefore, the UWP under its new leadership will create an enabling environment that will foster economic growth and the development of a strong private sector.

Under the leadership of Lennox Linton, we are promised that the UWP will ensure a comprehensive air and sea transportation sector that will include the development of an international airport.

It may have been a long time coming. But now that it is here, we are happy in marriage with Lennox as leader of the UWP for the better. These are promising and encouraging times and signs. Today, we are more confident that the refreshing change that we so desperately require in Dominica will come and we can let go of all fears that change will be a must not an option. Dominica will become the best place to live, work and to enjoy life in the global community.

Congratulations Mr. Linton! Congratulations UWP! Congratulations Dominica!

    We are elated! Respectfully

There is something you need to be reminded of before you make the statement quote “A DEFINING MOMENT IN DOMINICA’S POLITICS.” Politicians should not be judged by there rhetoric, history is our guide to this cardinal rule. The belief that a Politician can transform a country by mere words is cynical and ludicrous, you must not be lead by emotions but by reason.

Yes, it is true that the political landscape in Dominica has been changed by Lennox Linton,it has changed simply because he knows and understand how to use the media as a tool and he has done a very effective job in promoting himself as the czar of morality and integrity who is going to bring Leadership to a decaying country. It should also be remembered that in politics rhetoric is very important, it is the use of language to inform or persuade,is very important in shaping public opinion as people can be easily fooled by
language especially when it is used by other people who are skilled.

There is so much jargon, rhetoric, and selling of of false hope in that speech, I hope at some time we will get the specifics. As to your nonsensical assumptions saying quote “we are last in the OECS as per every economic indicator. We are last in economic progress in the region but first in the creation of millionaires from public funds, sale of passports to criminals, corruption and bribery” do you have the facts to prove such statement. The happy marriage with Lennox and The UWP you are embracing I hope will not be just words.Rhetoric is cheap, evidence comes more dearly.

Gary you frigging hypocrite; stop pretending just state your loyalty to Skerrit. It is amazing the things that people latch on too just to avoid dealing with reality. As a leader Skerrit has failed to motivate the people and to unite them. I can’t recall hearing a motivational speech from Roosevelt Skerrit – at least I am yet to be motivated. I can also safely say that the people are not motivated simply because of the grave reluctance to venture into small businesses; Farmers have abandoned their plantations; tradesmen escape Anguilla and Antigua.
Until Gary people like you call the monster by name our country is destined to remain in a Backward movement. I say so irrespective of who or what party is in government. You know darn well that the country is in the worse state and clearly the current administration is incapable of driving this country out of the sink hole.
How long are we going to play this game – gary you can obviously play that game while you reside away from Dominica but then how do you measure your patriotism. Do you continue to make excuses for under performance ; incapability ( square Peg in round hole); do you continue to play the politics of keeping some people ignorant just to fulfill your own selfish partisan or cabalist interest.
Why don’t we engage ourselves in dealing with the issues that are directly related to our economic woes- unemployment, poverty, crime, A non functioning agriculture industry( I am sure that you are singing a different tune cause I know and you know that you were one of those who made excuses for the very poor Agriculture performance performance of the Labor Party. I remember you denigrating agriculture by stating that ” Agrarian society are doomed to failure” You said all of this just to appease your political party but look where we are today.
Gary what other facts do you need to demonstrate the level of corruption and venality that exist within the Labor Party – Let your conscience be your guide and I do hope that you teach your children to do what is right and to speak the truth. A dumby woul know by now that the Villas belong to Roosevelt Skerrit – you want the evidence Gary follow the events surrounding the money trail and the various ownership interest. also examine the players like Isidore, Hartley henry, and the Guyanese connection. Gary you want the evidence for the garbage Bin and Fertilizer bobol? I am not sure you do; Gary you want to examine the sudden wealth enjoyed by the cabalist maybe yourself included – go to bo bois, Borne and the three houses owned by a certain minister; look into the ownership of equipment companies and construction companies.
How can people be so immoral and corrupt always bug me – the very same Laborites who painted the UWP as corrupt and without evidence to prove even while they have the wheels of power in their hand. Now that the finger is pointing at them the Labor Party ( deservingly so) they are asking for evidence. This time the evidence is all over and the people are poorer than ever; the law enforcement is more comprised than ever; and the justice system is not just fractured but certainly disfigured and dismantled.

Don’t worry Garry we are use to rhetoric right- we have had 13 years of lies and rhetoric. 11 years of cut and paste budget ; and 11 years of Tony Astaphan talking down to us. Maybe a some of Lennox’ rhetoric is good for our sanity.

Maybe you should complain about the many years of empty promises. After all if the promise well turns up to be empty and full of sh*****t for 13 long years maybe it is time to go to a different type of well hoping not to encounter the same old same old.

You sit down in Florida still sucking finger and I wonder whether you still hold the post of ambassador to Ch****e. I guess not. Don’t forget it is people like you that selected Skerrit over proven seniority and leadership in the Labor Party. Today you guys are lamenting just because Skerrit chose Freedomites and Tony astaphan to to guard the house of the rising sun

Your reply to my comment is typical of the type of politics that has now taken root in our country and that type of politics has perverted and divided the country never in our history. You have the right to your beliefs and assumptions regarding the Country. You also have to understand that your assumptions and beliefs about the Government are not necessarily shared by all Dominicans, repetitive rhetoric, unsustainable facts and statements, hearsay, personal feelings, and Political dogma spewed and disseminated on a daily basis does very little in building our country.

I will tell you this I have no loyalty to any political party.I’m a Dominican and I have a right to say how feel about the way my country is being governed. The UWP has not shown me they are ready to govern the country. The had a chance and they bankrupt The country.I do not see why these same people should come back again.Yes, political parties do make mistakes and evolve but the UWP has not shown or demonstrated that they are capable or willing to change, their politics is antiquated.

Lennox Linton Leadership is nothing more than a Political strategy created behind closed doors to hoodwink the populace, has it changed the political landscape, yes it has, but the great prize is still ahead and only the voters can decided that come election day.

To tell me quote “You know darn well that the country is in the worse state and clearly the current administration is incapable of driving this country out of the sink hole.” shows such arrogance on your part.I will tell you this I’m not a sheep and I do not have a sheep mentality.Have you forgotten what the UWP done to the country

What does a parrot do best? Anyone can get on a platform with their fairytale stories, however, to make a dream become a reality one has to act. How are these ideas going to come to fruition? How will the funding be secured? Mr. Linton, we want no parrot, we want a genuine patriot. We have had enough of your rants, we know exactly what you are about. We will never trade our PM for an empty vessel. Stop dreaming Lennox!

You know how long that is needed? Dominica will receive numerous visitors and entrepreneurs and investors as a result. And I just feel that Skerrit wasting the seat as PM. I have respect for him but he obviously don’t have the ability to sustain a country. All in it for the fame and want to get a whitewash like what went on in Grenada. I laugh at these Grenadians and I will laugh at Dominicans if they elect this man as PM again. I feel to go back to Dominica now just to vote Skerrit out!

Time to vote 3rd party. Melville hall cannot be expanded for an international airport. where it is presently located. Where does he think that he is going to put it and where is he going to get the money. This sounds like election rhetoric. Just because you build a bigger airport does not mean that more people will necessarily come to the island.

For the same reason just because you build a bridge does not means people/vehicles will cross it. But think of the possibilities/opportunities it presents for both imports of raw materials and consumer goods and exports of produce and manufactured goods. Greater access to DA for visitors and relatives increases the economic activities of DA.
