Nicholls ‘Shanks’ Esprit has been selected contest the Salisbury constituency for the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) in the upcoming general election.
In a Facebook page that was activated on Saturday, Esprit stated that he was ‘extremely honored’ to be selected by the party.
“I am extremely honored to have been selected as the candidate …” he said. “I am tremendously grateful to the villagers whose trust has afforded me the opportunity to be voted parliamentary representative, and make the daily life of every constituent better. The road to archiving this historical feat will be long and hard, but I’m confident we can be victorious.”
Esprit said the constituency requires a lot of improvement.
“I will direct the attention of the government to the needs of our communities. In the coming months, I will articulate my plans for the constituency,” he said.
He noted that he appreciates the support given since the launch of his Facebook page.
“I’m truly appreciative of the support gathering behind my candidacy. This goes to show that the people are crying out for effective representation, which I intend on providing,” he stated.
He said he looks forward to “bringing home the Salisbury Constituency to the Dominica Labour Party.”
The constituency consists of Salisbury, Coulibistrie and Morne Rachette.
Esprit will be facing opposition leader, Hector John, at the polls.
Efforts to contact John for a comment were unsuccessful.
The DLP’s hierarchy has not yet commented on the matter.
