PM and faith group urge acceptance of court’s decision

Skerrit

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has called on his supporters to accept the judge’s decision in the election petition matter.

Justice Gertel Thom’s decision is expected to be handed down Tuesday after lunchtime in the highly anticipated matter.

“Personally, I have made up my mind to accept any decision and I am calling on my supporters to accept with grace and humility,” the prime minister said on DBS Radio this morning. “My hope is that everyone of us in the country will respect the judge’s decision.”

The prime minister said if the court decides against him he would accept the decision. “If the court decides that I have to step aside, so be it. If the judge said you are properly elected, so be it also,” he stated. “At the end of the day everyone of us must respect the judge’s decision.”

Meanwhile the Interdenominational Committee on Crime and Violence (IDCCV) is calling all Dominicans to accept the court’s decision with prayerful humility. “The IDCCV recognizes that this particular result will be received with different feeling from each of the main groups concerned. Acknowledging this; we therefore call on all citizens to approach this anticipated result with a prayerful and humble spirit. We are reminded that the peace and stability of our nation should always be  prominent,” the group said in a statement. “We are therefore calling upon all Dominicans to refrain from any action that would impinge on the rights of others and create any sense of fear; intimidation or apathy.”

“Dominica is ours to build therefore our approach to the handling of this result should be statesmanlike, regardless of who it favours,” the statement concluded.

“Lawrence said that the lesson to be learnt from the ruling is that, “you never go to court on sensational allegations. And whenever you are to go to court you must have evidence and you must have facts to prove the allegations.

“Someone asked me earlier what about the court of public opinion, well the court of public opinion never goes to the court of law.

And we are ruled not by public opinion but we are ruled by the court of law…so unless someone has the facts and the evidence to prove one should not go to the court at all. And one should keep sensational allegations outside of the court. And one has to rise at the level of proper litigation and these petitions were not of such a nature,” Lawrence said”

Finally, again people keep your sensational allegations outside of the court. That is what the court was about and all the supporters of the Opposition are being fed with sensational items. So people open your eyes. It is time when you hear something to ask for the evidence. If we cannot do that then all the petitions and cout cases will go down as frivulous and cannot hold water in the courts . Lesson ended. The Opposition needs to learn this and move on and start doing the business of the people who elected them. Do that or give way to persons who will represent them in the House.

the Hypocrisy and comical scene created here is amazing. But as it is said God forgives and is not like some of us who are suddenly praying but tomorrow will use that same tongue to defame a poor less fortunate individual who opposes the party. I really hope that the praying mood continues and the “Humility continues until 2015. I am not a member of any political party and some of you are being to dramatic. Just remember we cannot fool GOD. I hope all of this is done from deep down in our hearts.

Remember we have no suicide bombers or small faction groups to sacrifice for our bitter hearts. But remember like how the body cleanses it self Mother nature can. the day will come when all this will stop.

I think a Volcanic Eruption would suffice. Mother Nature spares no one. Rich, poor, educated uneducated, dumb, blind, middle class, drug addicted, alcoholic.

What ever the decision this hypocrisy will still linger.

Pray on Pray on. But only an elite few seem to benefit at the end of the day.

    SMH!!!!

The God above knows how hard it is to survive in this county.

This so -called faith group has been mislead and scripturally wrong. Where in the bible does light and darkness agree? For what communion has lightwith darkness? 2 cor. 6:14. The answer is, none! Anytime light and darkness come together and agree and speak asone, you know it smells like the devil. Take a look at the socalled leaders of this faith group and you will see why Dominica is so messed up.
The Evangelicals used to call catholics darkness and not for a thing you would make them come together. So by cominig together this group is now telling us that they and those they used to criticise have finally become one. God and the Devil can never agree let a little to get married in the name of peace.

    • Justice and Truth
      January 10, 2012

      @ Time for truth.

People like you talk without discernment. You are not truth and probably not even peace. Where does light and darkness come in? You are being judgmental and condemning others.
Catholics and evangelicals have not become one. If you feel they do they can agree on a few points.
All those who believe in God and worship Him must be fair and just. They will agree on this basis.
I am quoting the following by an Archbishop/Cardinal of Toronto who passed away last year.

It is Jesus to whom we look
It is Jesus whom we imitate.
It is Jesus whom we follow.
It is Jesus who is with us so we can be with him.
      Yes, we work with others.
      Yes, we learn from others.
But in Jesus we find our ultimate identity and purpose.
He is the Alpha and the Omega for each one of us and for every human being.

I hope that you comprehend this.

      @ DOMINICAN

Let it be known that not everything we pray for God will grant it especially if our hearts are hard, lack humility and we are vindictive.
I have read the previous comments specifically from last year against the PM. God knows what some Dominicans have stated which were unfair and disrespectful to the PM. Their wicked aim was to oust him from his position. Do you think that God was sleeping and stupid? Let justice prevail in DA.
Even though you do not support a certain Party and its PM, there is no reason to scandalize his name and spread rumours about him which are unfounded. All of you could have been sued for defamation of character. Furthermore, you were putting DNO in a position to also be sued. Did you give this a thought? Be careful about the stones that you throw. Much more could be stated about that.

Pm Skerit is being blamed as the one stirring up hysteria ahead of the court’s decision Are we serious people/ haven’t we heard about “putting boots on the ground’? haven’t we heard about tommorrow Skerrit will be no more?” Haven’t we heard about it is time to strike in the country and throw out that corrupt government and Prime. If you in doubt ask the hosts of the call shows on cue.

In this matter, since it was filed against him PM Skerrit has acted within the law. He has rights in law just like everybody else. He has a right to remain silent or speak out knowing fully well that whatever he says or do can or wil;l be used against him. So like all of us he has rights. He also has rights like Lennox to appeal when court decisons go against him. We live in a modern world. Si whetehr he accepts a “losing verdict” and demit his office or he choses based on advice recieved to appeal that decision if it goes against him, that is his rights so to do. We should not fault him. After all he is fighting for his name and glory. Which one of us in a moment of need or despair, fighting for ur name and glory would not instruct our attorneys to do whatever is necessary WITHIN THE LAW law to defend us. Show me one such person in court. I noted the retired Chief Justice when ask about the possibility of appeal did advanced a personal opinion totally “rubbishing” the granting of permission to appeal and “delaying execution of the court’s order”. he says it was his personal opinion, but he failed to say what the LAW says in this regard.

PM Skerrit I would advise that should the decision go against you you should accept, stand down and advise your replacement to call a bye-election within 21 days. If you win I would go for an immediate general poll – 21 days. Let us see what the talkers have. They will I am sure find other excuses to talk

blacks continue to be second class because they arent tough enough to tell their bro man when he has gone wrong….

thats why the white always have the edge in the ending over the black race due to the lack of intergity which many blacks either lack or just will never get a grip of basic values!

Given the way things are going in Dominica evil may very well prevail today. The constitution will mean nothing and we will go about our business like all is well.

but at the same time dont he dlp has betta tings to do for d country dan sittin in court arguing over and i will not call it senseless because it is an offence to go against the supreme constitution of a country for a senator or representative to have been nominated wen under two dual citenship, but they got more sensible tings to be occupied in!!!!!!!
however i accept the uwp decision to bring the matter forward since anybody would do dat to overthrow another gov’t

    • ?????????????
      January 10, 2012

What is your point??? Who take who to court and you blaming the DLP for not having “betta tings to do for d country”. You should have asked this of the people who not representing the people who elected them and and according to you all they thinking of doing is “i accept the uwp decision to bring the matter forward since anybody would do dat to overthrow another gov’t”

dominica is finished even if he is still there. stop acting like skerrit is a God. there is only one God and it’s not skerrit. when will you people realize that the country is in need of change? when you all realize that things a getting worse day by day? stop hiding your true feelings and say how it is. some of you are living in conditions so bad and yet still saying thank God for skerrit. thank God for skerrit for what? what did he do? I am not a person to just support any party. I look for what you can do for my country and if you’re not doing anything then i think it is time to move out. if dlp does for the country i will support them; id uwp does for the country i will support them; if freedom does for the country i will support them. but if they are all just hungry for power i am not supporting either one. so stop acting like skerrit is a God and start looking at who can do for your country. everyone has a right to their own opinion and if someone says that skerrit is not doing anything then let them be. you people say that you are God fearing people and yet you act like labour party was sent to take you to heaven or something. come on. grow up and look at the bigger picture here.

This ruling and what happens after the reading will be a test of the constitution of the Commonwealth of Dominica, the judiciary system, democracy in Dominica but most of all it will test the character of the Dominican people, so far from what I read on this board regarding this case, it is quite obvious that the character of many Dominicans leaves much to be desired. I appeal to the patriots to continue t assert yourselves, continues to register your dissent to evil, fraud, moral bankruptcy, Total disregard and defiance of constitution, criminality in high places. Continue to fight for good, legal, accountable governance in Dominica, and the restoration of rule of law, integrity, decency, and morality in our beautiful Dominica. However do it lawfully and peacefully! No violence, no people of people alive!

Isle of beauty, isle of splendor,
Isle to all so sweet and fair,
All must surely gaze in wonder
At thy gifts so rich and rare.
    Rivers, valleys, hills and mountains,
All these gifts we do extol.
Healthy land, so like all fountains,
Giving cheer that warms the soul.
    Dominica, God hath blest thee
With a clime benign and bright,
Pastures green and flowers of beauty
    Filling all with pure delight,
And a people strong and healthy,
    Full of godly, rev’rent fear.
May we ever seek to praise Thee
For these gifts so rich and rare.
Come ye forward, sons and daughters
    Of this gem beyond compare.
Strive for honour, sons and daughters,
Do the right, be firm, be fair.
Toil with hearts and hands and voices.
We must prosper! Sound the call,
    In which ev’ryone rejoices,
“All for Each and Each for All.”

    To: Dominicans

We all must respect our constitution & laws!!
This is what creates & maintain a CIVIL society!!

This we should ALL agree on; DFP,DLP,UWP or what ever else we support!

We may disagree on all kinds of issues BUT when it comes to our constitution we must all come together in support of it!

May our constitution prevail for all our well being!!

    -Thank you!

While I strongly support you, are you telling me that if you loose, You will accept the court’s decision? If so be it then i would not expect you to appeal neither should you encourage Mr. Astaphans to apply for a stay of execution. However I do pray and hope that you win your case. to those who said the PM is just corruption and nothing is being done in the country, let me say to you guys I live overseas and when i returned home after eight years i was surprised to see how Dominica has developed. Let us not be bias. he is not God and will never do everything right, but I do believe he has Dominica’s best interest.

is development just roads and buildings??? you sound economically blind… what about health care and education….. what about money in the pockets of hardworking men and women… the only reason dominicans surviving is because of our nature… we look out for each other… so if our neighbour hungry they know where to go for food… that’s all… after 8 years?? it’s obvious you only see development in building… well let me tell you… Haiti is more developed than Dominica if you don’t know… as far as infrastructure is concerned… have you seen haitian news… almost on par with cnn etc as far as camera angles and shots… but does that mean it is ‘developed’… i’m tired of people coming and talking about roads and buildings as development…
