PM challenges Salisbury voters

"Shanks" Esprit and PM Skerrit at Wednesday night's rally
“Shanks” Esprit and PM Skerrit at Wednesday night’s rally

Political leader of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP), Roosevelt Skerrit, has called on villagers of Salisbury to choose the best man to be their member of parliament and refrain from leaving the future of the country to luck and chance.

Skerrit made the remarks while addressing a rally in the community on Wednesday night.

“The DLP is going to win the December 8th election,” he told supporters. “So let there be no doubt about Labour winning on December 8th, and we are going to win in a massive way. So the decision is yours, whether you wish to have a parliamentary representative in government, or whether you wish to have a parliamentary representative in opposition.”

He described the DLP’s Nicholas “Shanks” Esprit as the best man to do the job.

“And I am saying to the people in Salisbury, don’t tell me that nonsense that Shanks is a good man but you are UWP,” he said. “Do not tell me tonight that you know Lennox Linton is an embarrassment as a prime minister and a candidate, but yet you have to vote for his party. If you know Nicholas “Shanks” Esprit is the best of the two candidates going up in Salisbury, if you know tonight that DLP is a better party to run this country, stop gambling with the future of this country and vote for the DLP.”

Meantime, Esprit has promised farmers that they will get help if he is elected to parliament.

“So let me assure you the farmers of Salisbury that me, as your parliamentary representative, I will ensure that your feeder road is repaired,” he said at the rally.

He is also promising to establish a village council for Salisbury.

“There is another issue that no past candidate has addressed and I have no fear in addressing it. I think Salisbury village deserve a village council and I want you to work with me so that we establish a local government in Salisbury,” he stated.

He is also promising to upgrade the playing field and resurface the main road in the community.

Esprit informed that he has already spoken to the prime minister on that matter and he has given his assurance in principle that as soon as the old rotten pipes are removed the Salisbury, the road will be resurfaced.

General election is due in Dominica on December 8.

Esprit will be facing the UWP’s Hector John.

Why is Salisbury not waking up and smell the coffee? Its time to show these guys that Salisbury is fed up with their gutter politics. Wise up my people and get proper representation for a village which was once on top of all other villages. Establish a village council to take care of our affairs.

See how Earl was treated by his colleagues, the current Pal rep is neither here nor there for these guys they treat him with great disrespect. Then again he deserves such treatment sa ou fet say say ou wen.

Get real my people and vote for change in Salisbury. The reality is labour will be in Government for another few terms so do yourselves a favour and get proper representation

I was very disappointed to see/hear candidate after candidate making that statement, the placards also said it.

What a crying shame! It clearly shows that there is only one name on the ballot sheet. If that is the case, there is no reason to have rallies to choose candidates and no point in having an election.

The elected candidates are supposed to assist with the micro issues and the government the macros. One person cannot take care of it all.

I am not religious, I do not support any party, I do not even know the people fighting this election, however, there is one thing I do know from the old testament to the new testament, Moses and Jesus knew they could not do it all by themselves.

Moses was made aware by his father in law and Jesus realised it when he appointed his disciples

Light the light, Share the unconditional Love, and Spread the peace.

Salisbury? The back bone of the Unwanted Wicked Party? Awa. Salisbury deserves better years gone by this village was very productive and was envied by many but today sad to say things has really gone down hill because it lacks togetherness and proper representation.

You know what I don’t get, the UWP treated the former MP so badly. Now the current one is even worse they have no regards for him he is like a yoyo among them. If he himself had any pride for himself he would encourage his supporters to desist from supporting this party.

I don’t really understand why the people is against having a village council in this day and age you mean my fellow villagers are that ignorant? Please!!! come on people get real.

Is patience we don’t have. When Tina John-Charles contested the seat in 1995 against the UWP candidate. Shanks gave her endless trouble ,he was all blue from the sole of his feet to the crown of his head. Now see him, you would swear he plunged in a basin of blood.

Concerning village council for Salisbury I am all for it.Ladies and Gentlemen, not too long ago we were talking about how good a leader Leblanc was,a man present leaders should emulate. But I have a big problem with him.Leblanc was contesting the Salisbury seat, the man rudely and arbitrarily like a dictator dissolved our village council, and his action left a curse on our community. We are still without a V.C..
Every hamlet in Dominica has one, but not the number one developing village on the island. If V.C.was not good 4 us and it is common knowledge charity begins at home.He should do the same in Vielle Case where he was from.
This man had no respect for the people of Salisbury.Leblanc was the one who made this statement about us.
“If he dress a broom stick and send it Salisbury as a candidate,it must win.
In closing let me remind you the readers, I have no horse in this race.I am against workers and the same goes to labour

Freedom will never come back though. it is as dead as it’s founder/leader. She killed it when she left.
UWP does not want you anyway, and if Labour had any shame Skerrit, and all the Freedom people who are now claiming to be Labour would not be there.

Lobourites forgot the amount of things you all did to them. Dominicans have the memories of fouls.

I would like you to tell me which of the many hamlets that have village council is better than Salisbury. I hope you will pay the taxes the VC will charge you for the house and land.

The PM is giving good advice in a democracy, the people must vote for the better candidate rather than party colours. So roseau south Joshua Francis is a much better candidate rather than ambrose George wh had to be fired twice .Grand Fond vote Thomas Fountain a man with international experience of economics in Salibya vote Sandford a University lecturer with experience, Roseau Central, Grandbay, Castle Bruce, Monelle Williams St. Joseph, Coulihaut George over Ms. Daniels. So yes Dominicans put country and integrity first, democracy over communism, a Team over a Dictator, listen and restore democracy to Dominica not party colours..

  15. November 13, 2014

Skerrit you cannot Bully the people of the salisbury constituency. For many years now the people of Grandbay and Portsmouth are voting party so the people salisbury can also vote party if the so desire. you have treated them unkindly, punish them ina most cruel manner now to add insult to injury you want to bully them for their precious votes? It is spags who is there through thick and thin, through good times and bad times not that opportunist of a candidate whom you are presenting to them

The walls are falling so fast that Skerrit daypalaying.. For example, here is what he said in Wesley on Tuesday: “If you do not go out and vote then you are conspiring with the UWP to change the government,” he said. “If you choose not to go out and vote then you are indirectly voting for Lennox Linton to become the prime minister of Dominica. I say tonight that the blood of Dominica would be on your hands, all those who triggered the demise of this beautiful country of ours.” Compare this to what he said in Salsbury on Wednesday: “The DLP is going to win the December 8th election,” he told supporters. “So let there be no doubt about Labour winning on December 8th, and we are going to win in a massive way. So in Wesley they will make Lennox win and become Prime Minister but in Salisbury the dlp going to win. Wonder what he will say in Trafulgar tonight.

People tell me something…is this the way a current Prime Minister should solicit votes from his supporters? Would you allow even your friend to speak to you like this when asking you to do something for him/her?
“And I am saying to the people in Salisbury, don’t tell me that nonsense that Shanks is a good man but you are UWP,” he said. “Do not tell me tonight that you know Lennox Linton is an embarrassment as a prime minister and a candidate, but yet you have to vote for his party. This does not sound like a plea to the good conscience of the voters! It sounds like demands. It sounds like a father scolding his children!!!! People please stop and think! Roosevelt Skerrit has no control of his tongue…why should he be in control of your lives! I urge Laborites to respond to this comment.

  20. November 13, 2014

That is exactly how mr.PM try to brain wash people by dearing them and making them believe a mouse is an Elephant. Oh no PM , if that is the case and Dominican should vote the better candidate on each side you al lcannot win the election. EG. Mr Joshua Francis is a better candidate than Mr.Ambrose, so people of the Roseau South should vote for UWP. Mr. Fountain is a better candidate than Stevenson so people of GrandFond have to vote UWP. I wonder if I should go on. So if everyone should vote for the BETTER candidate, the DLP will get exactly 8 seats. I repeat, the DLP will get EXACTLY 8 SEATS.

This is what Skerritt has been doing to Dominicans, brain washing them, and creating a beggar nation. He makes them feel helpless, and that they must depend on him, not even the government, him, for survival. The people of Salisbury seem to be very strong in their conviction that they plan to continue to work hard and be independent and self sustaining. The rest of Dominica need to adopt that same attitude and pledge to work hard and be independent and DO NOT DEPEND ON ANY MINISTER, PARTY, OR GOVERNMENT TO GIVE YOU HAND OUTS AND REDUCE DOMINICANS TO BEGGARS. STAND STRONG AND LETS MAKE OUR ANCESTORS PROUD, THEY WORKED HARD FOR DOMINICA, LETS CONTINUE TO DO THE SAME.

    2. Paix Bouche: Paul verses ?
    3. Portsmouth-Ian Douglas Verses James? I prefer Mr. James because Ian himself told us that his team captain cannot be trusted and fooled him too many times.
    4. Cottage: Austrie verses Mr. Burton?I prefer Mr. Burton because he is an honest gentleman while Austie himself tells us he likes cow meat.

    6. Salsbury:Shanks verses Spags? Spaggs is better! Over the years Spaggs has shown us that he is a humble , reliable trustworthy individual. Shanks on the other hans has shown us that he is everywhere he thinks he can get something,

    8. Mahault: Blackmoore verses Thomas – I like Blackmoore but because his name is out there in so many stories I prefer Felix Thomas.
    9. Roseau North – Timothy verses Lugay. Lugay all the way! Prevost is not trustworth and has brought shame to us.
I will continue to look at other constituencies later.

    November 13, 2014

I heard a loud big bang and when I asked people what made that noise, 80% of those present said “The walls of Jericho” have fallen and UWP did not even have to fight, while the other 20% said, they did not see that coming. As I followed the result of cases heard this week by The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, and see how they have ruled almost everytime against the government, clearly tells me that the walls of Jericho are falling. When I heard of the closure of Big Bang earlier this week and who gave them license, on whose name was licensed issued, and who had to leave the country to facilitate the signing, tells me that the walls of Jericho are falling. When I heard Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit told Dominicans at a Wesley meeting this week, that if they vote UWP against his DLP and make Lennox Linton the PM of Dominica, the blood of Dominica will be on their shoulders, is further proof that the walls of Jericho falling. Yes, the walls of Jericho are falling and they are falling with a BIG BANG!

Why is Skeritt trying to give UWP Team Dominica and Mr. Lennox Linton, the election on a golden platter. Leave the mapuis for the rum shops, concentrate on your plans and programs. This obsession with Mr. Linton should be thrown in the garbage bin,, stay focus, the bashing of Mr. Lennox Linton is not working.

I am happy to hear P.M wanting we the ppl of Salisbury to vote for the labour party. isn’t it the same Salisbury they haven’t done anything for in the past 12yrs? it is a shame to drive or walk on the street of Salisbury and even think of voting for DLP. Salisbury haven’t benefit nothing, from this Government. change is a must. vote UWP.

I suggest you take this up with your elected member of parliament Hector John. Had he been attending parliament he would have had the opportunity to deal with the issues of his constituency. He could lay the issues of the people whom he represents on the table and ensure that the government do something about it. Instead he kept ignoring the cry of the people and blatantly stayed away . Ask Hector if he did anything for his people.

How biased can u all be…..don’t u guys listen to house of assembly meetings? If spats failed the people of Salisbury it is a reflection on the governments failure to listen to the people crying for help on behalf of their constituents… Labour has failed…Calibishie voting labour since 1995 labour has been the government since 2000.. What have they done in the paix Boucher constituency…

There is a very dangerous trend taking shape in Dominica today. It appears that unless a constituency votes for the labour they will be left behind in squalor and indigence. The funny thing is that there are constituency that voted for the labour party that are worse off than Salisbury, Marigot and Roseau central. Look at St Joseph; millions of dollars spent there and poverty increased. same story all over the land. So why should Salisbury vote labour? To become poor as their neighbours. But there is something more sinister down the road here. it seems to me that Mr Skerrit is not a good student of history. Every where in the world; going back to furthest time in civilization whenever you disenfranchise and marginalize a people they will eventually rise up and destroy their oppressors. Just twenty years ago the Rawanda Genocide or attempted genocide occured and here we are marching proudly towards a rendevouz with a similar occurrence. Somebody will respond and say that it will never happen; they will claim blood of Jesus and all that. We dont all have to support the same party. We can vote different parties and build our nation. So all those politicians that want every body to be the same are only setting us up for a serious catastrophe in the long run. This notion of if you dont vote for me I wont assist you is just pure spoil brat syndrome and has no place in a democracy.

Shanks was a no good when he was with UWP but now that he is attracted to the DLP he automatically is a good man. The same Shanks who asked the question in the House about Susan Oldie. Answer the question first and then I will consider voting for him if the truth is told
