Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has written to his Ecuadorean and ALBA counterpart, Rafael Correa, congratulating him on winning the presidential election in Ecuador on Sunday.
Correa won the election with 57 percent of the votes, earning him another four years as president of his country.
In a letter to Correa, Skerrit said he felt ‘a great sense of joy’ when he learnt that he was victorious at the polls.
“I therefore wish, on behalf of the Government and People of the Commonwealth of Dominica, on behalf of the Dominica Labour Party and on my own behalf to congratulate you, Vice President Jorge Glass, the Allianza Pais Party, and all Ecuador for this victory which constitutes a clear ratification of the Citizen Revolution that you lead,” the Prime Minister wrote.
He continued, “Comrade President, all of ALBA, the Caribbean, Latin America and indeed the world celebrates with you tonight for this is a genuine victory that is built on the positive results in the areas of political stability, public infrastructure, access to health and education, and poverty alleviation that your Government has been able to secure with and for the Ecuadorean people.”
The Prime Minister said he looks forward to working with Correa within the ALBA family “as we strive to cement the independence and sovereignty of Latin America and the Caribbean and tackle the sad legacy of inequality that we have inherited within our societies.”
Correa, a US and European educated economist, first elected in 2006, won the vote in 23 of 24 provinces in Ecuador, demonstrating both his sustained popularity and the fractured opposition, according to media reports.
He appeared before thousands of cheering Ecuadorians on Sunday evening in Ecaudor’s capital Quito saying: “I’m not going to disappoint you”… and “nobody or nothing will stop this revolution.”
Very, very interesting! It’s difficult for me to understand how Mr. Skerrit is looking forward in working with his ALBA Buddies, to “Tackle the sad legacy of inequality that we’ve inherited within our societies”.
Think about it! It seems like Mr. Skerrit has a great deal of work cut-out for him. Because under his administration, more local merchants gone under, the gap in poverty has grown wider, and more people depend for handouts from the system, creating a deeper divide in the nation. Lawyers, Doctors and Politicians have become more corrupt especially when they are aided and abetted my a corrupt system. So you see Sir, I see a lot of work for you and ALBA.
I would advice that you look in a mirror, and you’ll see a whole lot of inequality right here in Dominica. Here’s a simple question, “Are all political parties have equal rights to use the nation’s station DBS? No! Why not? I’m just asking Sir!
I wonder if you were PM, whether things would be any different in Dominica. While I agree that there is much work to be done to improve life in Dominica in general, your comments seem to insinuate that the PM is personally responsible for the sad state of affairs in Dominica. The former government of the UWP has its share of blame for its policies. There was as much corruption, my friend. I find you people to be so very biased! What is your contribution to national development? What have you done to improve life in our beautiful country? Think about that and stop pointing fingers at others.
J.L.O,
I didn’t insinuate what you’ve assumed my beloved brother or sister. I simply stated the known facts. And in layman’s terms, I’ll say again that I don’t understand how Mr. Skerrit can tackle something that he enables and promotes. There’s nothing biased about my comment if you stick to the point in issue. I respect your position though….. Thnx!
i love your comment, you seem to be a pretty inteligent person, i couldn’t have said it better.
That word making a come back”COMARADE” Long live Maurice Bishop. But I join our PM” in the “AM” in congratulating presendent,Rafael, and the people of Ecuador.Comarde!we might invite you to Dominica soon, just make sure you bring us some much needed $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$! and then tell us who to vote for in our next Election. Stay tuned.
How childish and immature!
