PM congratulates new Bahamas leader

Perry Christie

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has congratulated the Progressive Liberal Party of Bahamas on its election victory.

On Monday opposition leader Perry Christie and his PLP party secured a commanding majority of the 38 seats in the house of assembly which will allow it to form a new government.

He served as prime minister from 2002 to 2007.

Prime Minister Skerrit said the decision by Bahamians to vote for a new government should be respected.

“I had the privilege of working with both parties. I worked with Christie when he became prime minister and I continued to know him while he was in Opposition, so I have no doubt that he will bring that level of brotherhood to CARICOM,” he said.

PM Skerrit said often times Dominicans find themselves embroiled in court cases for extensive periods because some politicians don’t concede to defeat.

He said Christie’s victory to lead the Bahamian people comes at a time when the world is grappling with a financial crisis.

“Every one of us is having tremendous economic problems and Bahamas isn’t any exception. He will be tasked with charting the way forward and bringing hope to the Bahamian people,” he said.

The same way Bahaminians vote for a new political party is the same way Dominicans are going to vote for a new political party in the next D/ca elections, and I hope you will repect our decisions the same way you did for the Bahamianis. There in no money now to bring don all those diasporans.
Get ready Dominicans the winds of change is coming to D/ca from France, Bahamas and to us.

I was following the Election in the Bahamas and I can say to whoever read this comment that I was very suprise of the result,I just couldnt beleive the FNM loose to the PLP and so bad.The race was close and the battle was tought but I throw my support to the FNM cause they were the party in power and their colour is red.I congratulate Perry Christe for bringing victory to his party and also congratulating Mr Ingreham for accepting defeat. But while saying that let me send a message to political parties esspecially those in power never put confident to huge crowd at rallies cause you can be disapointed and even get mad at the end, never forget those that have been supporting you and give your enemies previledges in other to buy them, never bring popular bands in your rallies to atract crowds, never send free buses to pick up people for rallies and always take into consideration the main things that affect people such as unemployment, lack of financal resourses, crime and not to wait for when election coming to go meet ur people and do things to-pa-to.And alway remember building roads, bridges, big building and stadiums will not bring victory to no political party. The FNM in bahamas thought that hudge crowds, infrastructual development and trying to buy their enemies would cause them to win,but sad to say they lost badly.Once again congratulation to the right Honourable Perry Christe for a job well done.

My fellow Dominican I would like to say thanks for the tips but we are already at the next level of conduct. You talk about bus load of voters we do plane loads of illegal voters; you talk about unemployment not even the Russia space craft can climb to our level of conduct poverty ;as for neglect and corruption?so rampant the people don’t even know the difference between the good and bad, corrupt or honest

“PM Skerrit said often times Dominicans find themselves embroiled in court cases for extensive periods because some politicians don’t concede to defeat.” Hahahahahaha, skerritt boy we will take our bat and ball and go when the other side cheats. Is that the message we are sending to our children that it is ok to cheat?
