PM dismisses UWP candidates as ‘unemployed,’ ‘loiterers’

PM Skerrit described the UWP candidates as lazy
PM Skerrit described the UWP candidates as lazy

Prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit appears unimpressed by a slate of United Workers Party (UWP) candidates who intend to challenge the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) at the next general election, describing them as unemployed loiterers and lacking ambition.

In recent weeks the UWP has been introducing candidates across the island with a view of picking up momentum to face the DLP with Joshua ‘Sikiri’ Francis being the latest.

Speaking on the Kairi FM’s Next Level program, the prime minister did not mince his words on the candidates saying they not interested in sacrifice and are basically looking for a job.

“These guys are not making any sacrifice, these are unemployed fellahs,” he said. “Isaac unemployed, Sikiri cannot get one legal job besides a bottle of rum somebody steal in a shop and he has to go and bail them, Lennox unemployed, Thompson Fontaine unemployed, Danny Lugay unemployed, the lady in St. Joe, half, half, half, James Alexander unemployed…”

The prime minister pointed out that the candidates are not willing to give up anything or to make sacrifices for Dominica.

“So all of these guys are unemployed people, lacking ambition …all of them … is not sacrifice they are making, they are not giving up anything to come and say gentlemen, I am coming to help this country,” he remarked. “They are looking for something, to get a job, to believe that Dominicans are unsuspecting … they are not interested in making the sacrifice.”

However, Skerrit said he feels comforted that Dominicans see things differently. “I am comforted by the fact that the vast majority of people recognize that this is a bunch of waste of timers, loiterers, lazy men, who have no ambition,” he noted. “And if they have no ambition they cannot motivate your children to do well in school, they cannot motivate your children to work and be diligent in what they do.”

DNO has repeatedly tried to get a reaction from the UWP hierarchy on Friday morning and has been unsuccessful so far.

I need to remind readers and listeners that Mr James Alexander has already motivated thousands of the young people who are employed – whether by others or for themselves. He single-handedly repaired the GrandBay Primary School when the Secondary School was housed there. Remember the days when the school would be flooded and students would have to return home. As soon as he came he put a stop to this with some ambitious work. The School is still there as a testament to this. He also ambitiously enhanced the surroundings of the Pierre Charles Secondary School with all types of flowers and plants – among them fruit trees the fruits of which we enjoy up to today. This school is also still there as a testament to his ambitious work. COME SEE FOR YOURSELVES. He has been ambitious in the past to qualify himself with a degree and he is ambitious enough today to be the owner of his own business. ENOUGH SAID!!!

Oh my, I’m very disappointed at PM Skerrit’s behavior of stooping so low and belittleing others. Playing gutter politics. Imagine how he described an attorney, and the others. I think PM Skerrit has been pretending all along, and now begin to show his true colors.

If PM Skerrit is as humble as he says, he should do the honourable thing and apologize and let his guys like … play the dirty game for him.

In this day and age I cannot believe that some Dominicans are willing to accept that Individuals presenting themselves as the best option to lead our country who are unemployed and have never demonstrated any evidence in recent times that they are employerable, can even for themselves come up with any idea/s to create personal employment are a viable option to lead a country which they say repeatedly is the worst in the Caribbean. It bothers my mind to think that their ability to lead and the unemployed state that they are presently in, should not be questioned. Some of these men have been unemployed for years. Are we going back in time to the stone age. I want to believe that the majority of Dominicans will not and will not accept that the persons asking them for the mandate to lead the country are unemployed for years. I rise up and object to this.

The politics of Mepewis lies deceit and corruption is nothing new for Skerrit and his labour party. The leader is only taking it to the next level. A level i always believe will lead to self destruction. We are familiar with Senior Council Astaphan calling our leader of The Opposition cockroach and calling Dominicans Cacadors, dogs and pigs. The PRO of the labour Party proclaiming that they do not believe in the Politics of truth. So by Skerrit admitting that the unemployment situation is so bad even among lawyers and professionals speaks volume about his failed leadership while he seeks to import lawyers and professionals in Dominica as Magistrates and DPP.It is very clear to me that based on his recent rantings Skerrit is running scared of the so called unemployed UWP candidates. The sign is on the wall and the fright is in Skerrit heart and on his lips.Expect more tantrums from our out going Prime Minister

I take it that you have no shame. Have you even listened to the way Skerrit speaks? I would put him side by side with Linton and expose his stupidity, weakness, inadequacies of the English language, to the world. This man is either mad, or he is too arrogant so it is driving him into destruction.
ANYWAY ONE THING IS CERTAIN. He has strengthened Joshua’s position in Roseau South, because as of yesterday when I visited a particular area in Roseau South, a large number of people were in fact referring to Skerrit’s nonsensical statement as “””Mr mad man to talk rubbish like that”””. COME ON SKERRIT. GO MAKE A SIMILAR STATEMENT TOMORROW. It will make you more popular.

I cannot believe what I am reading. Skerrit boy, you have kids looking up to you. Think about your behaviour. You have an example to set as a leader and that is not it. I know you get it from all sides but you cannot blow off like that. It’s actually a bit cheap. You make yourself look pathetic. Let people talk and keep working on a better dominica. With that said, I hope the opposition does the same. The country is extremely divided and you guys need to work together to fix that. Dominicans hating each other over politics. That needs to stop. That’s to both sides. If you love dominica like you claim. Here is a challenge. Work together to move forward. If you love it like you claim, let. Us see you guys on tv in a debate, on matters that are important to us, and at the end you guys shake hands. Dominica need men and women in power. Not boys and girls. We need leaders and not instigators. Peace and love be with both sides

    • December 9, 2013

The opposition and some other people are tired of asking for debate but the PM feels he is too high to sit with the opposition to discuss. Not even in parliament if they ask a question, he answers. He just asks mme speaker to adjourn the house of assembly without any answers. This is how proud he is.Mr sees us,Dominicans especially the opposition just how Botha saw the blacks in South Africa.

Just took a minute to read the comments. Why are people finding humour in Skerrits’ non-plausible mathematical rant 1/2 /12/1/2 to disrespect a woman because she simply exercised her democratic right to run for UWP? First of all 2 halves make a whole Skerrit, not 3!! So every time you open your mouth you concede how inept you are, no wonder you got caught in the bin bobol and land transactions, having to pay back treasury thousands. To think you are minister of Finance? Keep talking, every attempt to insult and denigrate people falls flat at your feet and exposes you as a dimwit. Your elevator clearly doesn’t go to the 3rd floor, so beat your chest like peacock, still. It is better to be thought of as a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt Mr B.A in English aka HALF HALF HALF!

Unemployed Loiters? Really! It’s because of you less than a 1/4 of the population is unemployed and you’re throwing it in our face to remind us that we’re unemployed!
For 13 years you have been unable to create jobs and have failed us miserably in this regard. The economy is in a dismal state, our GDP is the lowest in the Caribbean and you’re proud of these statistics? These are the results of your failed leadership. No wonder you increased the RED CLINIC’S budget from $250,000 to $1 million because of your inability to create jobs.

If the PM can point out a list of so many unemployed professionals in the country, it simply shows a bad reflection on his government. It shows that the report that poverty on the decline is a lie. It shows that things are very bad in Dominica and the government if a failing one. Especially when you look at so many company closing down or having to downsize. This is just bad on the bad of the PM to let the world know that his govt is not a working govt and that there is no hope for the country’s graduate. Sad state of affairs. Too many unemployed professionals according to the PM in the Island, much to much. The PM cannot even put a plan in place to hire, all he has to offer is an internship which you have to win through a raffle.
I dont even know what to say, but this is really bad. And do not rule out a psychiatric evaluation for this man.

Skerro appears to be out of place and is not aware of his position as PM. Why are you accusing the other party? If you are so knowledgeable, why aren’t you proving it through your actions? Why are you separating the country, why setting up hate and war. Why don’t you use your leadership to build instead of destroying. You should think deep about your actions and words.Ahhhh Skerrit…… afterall man…u stooping just a bit too low now. December 6, 2013

Sir, why do you always feel the need to denigrate and malign the people you lead. Do you ever listen to yourself, is there anybody out there to speak some good sense into you.

Let me remind you, when you Roosevelt Skerrit from Vielle Case came into the political arena you typically had nothing to your name although you had been a teacher for many years. It seems that you only found out you had ambition when you became a politician. I say this because you didn’t even have 10 % of EC$15,000 to your name. Remember when you needed a vehicle and Roosis Douglas had to sign a loan for $15,000 for you to to purchase a white Nissan Sunny?

If you live in a glass house do not throw stones. When we point fingers at others several point right back at us. how long, not long my friend.

Besides these men and lady in Team Dominica seem more ambitious than you. They are not in power but by miles more established than you even dreamt of being while you were in political obscurity.

You shot yourself in the leg with this one. There are more interesting days ahead. As the days progress you are going to continue making mistake after mistake as you put on public display the sort of character we have entrusted to head our government. No sensible person with values, effects and love for humanity should even consider voting someone like yourself or reginald austrie, you are just a bunch of fouled mouth politicians who do not trust each other. You own ministers are speaking badly of you.

But Mr. Skerrit, why don’t you think before you open your mouth? When you open your mouth you always seem to embarrass us as your blind supporters. If the UWP candidates are “Unemployed loiterers and lacking ambition”, does that not reflect poorly on the nations leader that is not able to create employment for its citizens? After all, when UWP was in power the fact that you and others were employed by them is proof that they were able to create jobs even for their opponents. The response of a man who is under extreme PRESSURE.
LINTON is not easy to face up to you know. Tell us about jobs, Mr PM. Tell us why you have driven this country to its knees with your lazy, arrogant, inept and clueless style of management. Tell us about the mendicancy syndrome you have created on island.Tell us why you killed agriculture on the nature isle. As I have already stated on this medium, the mendicancy syndrome will definitely be your most damning legacy, and generation to come will whip even your picture long after you are gone, for plummeting their country into a bottonmless abyss of destruction and poverty.
Now your reign of terror infamous is at its twilight years, you are attacking those who will soon replace you? All these men/women are people with integrity, those who obey the biblical tenets “thou shall not STEAL, THIEF,CHEAT, etc”.
    OUT YOU GO SOON.
    HOW LONG?

This proves that what Si  r Brian Alleyne said about your lack of qualities to be a great leader is correct, you just proved him right. You have continued to show you do not understand that you are the prime minister of all Dominicans and you are to respect the office you now hold.Instead your tone and subject matter sounds like a street woman in a quarrel.Rise above that mr Prime minister and show good example.

Well Mr. PM, maybe when you stop victimizing people in the country because they don’t support you then they and others will have jobs. All the “innocent” people out there that don’t know should know that the long arm of Skerritt can stretch into almost any company in Dominica and get you fired.

This is the legacy you want to live behind? Create employment for all regardless of political afiliation. I thought it was all shall eat but it seems to be one set to eat, and even then is beg you have to beg for it and after that shut your mouth and close your eyes.

For unemployed fellas, they are doing damn good for themselves and their families. They have wives who remain faithful, children who adore them, and faithful followers. If they can survive unemployed, they surely will do an excellent job when they get into office.
Skerrit is the kind of fella who does not engage his brain before he speaks. If he used to do so, he would have stayed mute on the subject. Rosie Douglas did not hold a job before he was elected to Parliament and became Prime Minister in 2000. Pierre Charles ran a village shop before becoming a Minister of Government, but if Joseph Issac is considered unemployed, then Pierro must be considered unemployed before becoming a Minister because Issac owns a thriving food business in Roseau.
Roseauvelt “Huff-an-Puff” Skerrit, is not much more than hot air. He still cant accept that unemployment is a reflection of his poor leadership. He huffs about the need to create employment for the many talented unemployed Dominicans yet he puffs that the unemployed is lazy. What a poor case for a PM!

Matt, Q95; Kairi FM; DBS; and other media houses should open up the lines and to help the PM identify who is unemployed in other words who is lazy and not ambitous – since he has started the roll call lets get a program going so that we can get a true picture or a true census as to how many lazy and unambitous citizens we have on island based on the umployed; that would be a very interesting statistic that all political parties should be interested in not let alone the private sector and potential investors to the island.

Let the roll call continue … the PM has started with a few names which I garuntee is just the tip of the umemployed iceberg.

It is a sad case for Skerrit to be calling these guys unemployed and lazy…when it is his victimizing policy that have such an educated bunch out of a job. Why can’t he capture the talents of Thompson Fontaine and use it to fix up our ailing economy or The lawyer’s expertise or the young man from La Plaine’s education and international working experience and use it in a meaningful way instead of insinuating the man flee America?…Shouldn’t he return to his island? Wasn’t it Skerrit himself some time ago, who call on people in the Diaspora to come back home to contribute to their islands development?

I think before Skerrit start making all these senseless comments, he needs to ask himself whether it is not his government’s job to provide jobs for all Dominican citizens irrespective of their political leaning, especially those who can contribute to the island’ s development.

Look at how his government’s victimizing policy has public works GM, after Skerrit will say the young man who has a UWI degree is lazy and unemployed…when it is his party’s little boy, every-body-must-support-me-or-else policy that has many capable men and women out of a job and on the unemployment list.

    December 6, 2013

Skerrit the country full of unemployed loiterers. I hope you can do something to decrease the amount of them if you win the next election. Because as far as I see employment has not been one of your top priorities.

Then again it hasnt been UWP priority either all they use to talk about is dual citizenship and villas. Both parties need to take that unemployment thing serious. Unemployment leads to social unrest and violence and crime. Please let that be our 1 issue next election. Fix unemployment people want jobs.

    • peeping
      December 6, 2013

Madame Just Blaze, can”t you see PM is fixing the unemployment issue. He has just launched the NEP which will see employment of hundreds of young people. At least he is trying.

I just disagree like many other Dominicans both red and blue with some of the careless words that leave his mouth. When he speaks even though he is attacking the opposition he must take the rest of us into consideration.

He is actually hurting us by some statements and these things go around the globe. PM Please for the good of all us us I beg you to use wisdom when you speak. I know you are human but ask God to help you. The Bible is supposed to be a leaders guide. Apart from that we love but alas depends on the statement you hurt all of us across the board. We have brilliant men on both side of the fence and each one has a certain level of potential. Apart from that PM is doing good in certain areas give jack his Jacket

Let us nit hurt people and the families who have to go to bed at night with embarrassing and distasteful statements. I always ask God to help me not to boast in the position that I have because I do niot know when I will lose it. Oh God please we ask for your help

      December 6, 2013

@CC: Very good point. He encourages mendicancy and laziness with his one man social “catch a vote” type of assistance from the red clinic yet has the gull to call people lazy. He needs to look within his party to see who is lazy and unambitious, when they collect monthly salaries and fail to represent the people who voted them. Look at the neglect of agriculture, the neglect of roads, the level of poverty around the country, the lack of investments in the country then you tell me who is lazy and not doing their jobs.

So only people who work for the Government are employed? People who support the opposition cannot get jobs because they are victimized. In case you do not know, people who work for themselves are called self employed and also have to pay social security and taxes. These men are self employed and are earning income as well. They are not depending on the government to be beggars; they are providing for themselves. But God is not asleep. It is so sad what our country is becoming. Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall, the Bible says. People look out.

Why are we behaving like this, aren’t we all God’s children? We make these statements and yet we keep on saying “God is good, and all the time God is good”. Is that how God wants us to treat each other? fight against each other whether by words or physically? Let us all examine ourselves and be the best that we can, help our brothers and sisters when we can as God is in control. If we truly believe God does everything right then there is no need to fear and behave like this. The greatest of God’s commandment is “love”, so love your neighbor as yourself! God bless.

Besides Lennox and Isaac, what were the other people doing?

According to the prime minister, “the candidates are “not willing to give up anything or to make sacrifices” for Dominica.”

““So all of these guys are “unemployed people,” “lacking ambition” …”all of them” … is not sacrifice they are making, they are not giving up anything to come and say gentlemen, I am coming to help this country,”” he remarked. ““They are looking for something, to get a job, to believe that Dominicans are unsuspecting … they are “not interested” in making the sacrifice.””

    THAT IS A TALL ORDER.

“However, Skerrit said he feels “comforted” that Dominicans see things differently. ““I am “comforted” by the fact that the “vast majority” of people “recognize” that this is a “bunch of waste of timers, loiterers, lazy men, who have no ambition””. ““And if they have “no ambition” they “cannot motivate” your children to do well in school, they “cannot motivate” your children to work and be diligent in what they do.””

Fountain is a top business advisor and owns a couple of businesses. This man is giving up a lot to help Dominicans which most of us would not even contemplate.

The PM is not intellectually capable of debating either Lenox or Thompson so he has to resort to gutter politics.

The sad reality is that Laborites are justifying this coward behavior by sy ” when they were calling him names”. Well up to this point the only name that Skerrit was called is corrupt. I speak to laborites all the time and many of them are afraid to express their honest opinion simply because of exactly what this administration has done for too long.

If talking about the dismal state of the economy and the massive unemployment deserves vitriol by the sitting Prime Minister then god Save Dominica. If such response by the PM is justified and supported by descent Dominicans , people who know better then I would suggest to these people please don’t celebrate the life of nelson Mandela – don’t even mention his name.

Nelson Mandela fought not just against apartheid but against poverty and unemployment , equal opportunity for all whether you are in opposition or on the ruling side.

They are afraid to voice their honest opinion of the economic situation and the things that are happening in Dominica, because of what may happen to them, but they can voice that opinion at the polls, and that is the only action that can change things, besides the grace of God. EVERY VOTE is very important, and everyone needs to exercise their civic right, and do what their heart and gut tells them to save Dominica.

LIES, LIES,LIES, MAPUIS, MAPUIS,MAPUIS, when will it ever end, oh God, when will it ever end. Mr. Joshua Francis is employed and operates his own Law Office. Miss Monell Williams is employed by Clear Harbor. Mr. Danny Lugay is a Senator and like Skeritt is paid from the taxes of the people of Dominica. Dr. Thomson Fontaine is a part time lecturer at a University in Washington and Financial Advisor Internationally. Mr.Isaac Baptiste and Mr. Joseph Isaac own their businesses where many Dominicans are employed. Mr. James Alexander is a retired School Principal and receives a Pension and Social Security Benefits. Mr. Lennox Linton is a Media Consultant also a Political Advisor to many Caribbean Governments. A few weeks ago he was heavily criticized by the Skeritt Labor Party because he accepted employment by the St. Kitts Labor Party as a Political Advisor. Aa, Aa, he forgot to mention Mr. Spraggs John. Why are people so surprised this is Roosevelt Skerrit. A very arrogant and uncaring individual. I have known this man for a very long time – way before politics landed on him.

Roosevelt has the audacity to call people loosers – Looser are quitters ; people who run away, people who never graduate and walk around having people think that he or she graduated. Loosers are people who write bad checks knowing well that the funds are not and will not be available in the checking account.

I will never forget a certain gentleman who was head of the 6 th form college told me that when a teacher keep insisting that any extra time spent with students that teacher should be paid for overtime he told me that this person is not a teacher at heart and not a good person at heart.

This bright school teacher from Pennville has apparently loss his senses after spending a few years in government. He noted in 2000 that his campaign was clean and no throwing words. What happened?

We all know that it is difficult to find employment when you don’t support the reigning government. An aspiration to be in politics is a career and an ambition. If that were not the case then why is he in politics? If he is there only to help people then that makes him unambitious. Being in government is all about helping people develop themselves, developing yourself and the country on a whole. Who makes him judge over these men? To call them loiters – I find that very untrue and insulting.

At 41, I know he has lived long enough to witness the trend of politicians when they are in and out of government. I am the age of the PM and I have heard the same comments by former politicians who have found themselves in the same situation they criticized while they were in power.

The comment of the PM is very ghetto. I’m just surprise of the foolishness that excites my people.

The leadership of the country is unambitious – enjoy being dependents of other countries and recruiting the citizens of Dominica to become dependent on the government. The Prime Minister needs to think before speaking. Had he considered the prior Labor Party regime (fathers of the party) he would not have made such comment.

I AGREE with the PM, if anybody is hungry in Dominica it is because they want to be hungry. There are too many things wasting on the Island. I know that not having money in abundance is hard, but how do you think my parents and other parents raised us, they did not have money and they had no one to give them. They CULTIVATED THE LAND and SOLD their cultivation to buy what they could not grow. The people on the Island is much better off than those that are not.

When I was growing up my father went fishing on days that he did not go to the garden so we could have fish to eat, and money from the sale of same. The breadfruit, banana, breadnut, yams, tania, dasheen, you name it he had it. We did not have money, yet we had everything. For many different reasons I did not want to comment on this one.

Anything I say here will be minimized for obvious reasons; but I think you are out of you mind to make such stupid comments. How can you make such stupid comment in regards to the hungry people in Dominica. Don’t you know that there people in Dominica who has never held a job in their entire life?

And mind you, it is not because they have not tried to find work; in recent years bananas has become unprofitable, most people have lost their means of survival; with nothing to replace what is lost life has become a struggle, the politicians, and perhaps your kind does not struggle, but I am telling you I know people in Dominica who might stave to death had it not been for the kindness of others such as neighbors who remember them when they cook.

How can one effectively sustain themselves under the prevailing circumstance in our country? There are people going to sleep at knights without eating anything; I was informed there was a function some place which someone attended, the person perhaps developed an upset stomach, in any event they got sick, and disgorged (vomit) the contents of their stomach.

Upon observation, it was discovered all the person had for a meal was nothing more than boiled bananas, and chewed dry coconut.

That is the sort of miserable life some people are living in Dominica. Without a job, without a source of money one cannot live comfortable. Who should be responsible for the creation of jobs? Indeed the government cannot provide a job for everyone who needs a job, however, it is the government responsibility to set the stage to attract both local, and foreign investments.

Dominica has a population of less than seventy thousand people, nevertheless, there are less than twenty thousand people in the country who can boast of a job.

Who must people blame for the lack of employment in the country, I refuse to answer my own question, simply because I do not wish to rock the boat. Sometimes it is better not to comment than to talk the crap which you wrote.

“Give me a fish; I’ll eat for one day, teach me to fish, I will eat for ever”

All it takes is a job to change the life of the unfortunate!

Perhaps you do not know but there are plenty hungry people in Dominica, and the reason they are hungry it is not because they are lazy, and it is not because they have given up on life either, the problem is there are no opportunities in the country, and the powers that be is not doing anything important to change the status quo!

    • December 6, 2013

@Arbitrator, the PM said that the people seeking positions to GOVERN the country are ALL UNEMPLOYED and this is their way of seeking employment. He was not referring to every unemployed Dominican.

    • Peeping Tom
      December 6, 2013

I know the PM does not believe this but you must agree that many of those who are unemployed are lazy and do not really want to work.

How do you explain that almost unemployment rate among recent immigrants (Haitians and D0mincans from the Republic) is so low? How do you explain that many Haitians actuallly have two or more jobs?

There are many people in DOmincia who simply lack the appetite or the discpline for sustained employment. They want money but they do not want to put in the sweat and the discipline to get it. This is part of our reality. We can probably all name persons with whom we have grown up but who have NEVER held a job in spite of their ability to work. How do you explain this?

No, the PM did not say that, but you and i know that Dominica is plagued by lazyitis.

      • Um
        December 6, 2013

I agree that majority of Dominicans are lazy.. but do you know how it feels to have a passion to work in a particular field but there is no opportunities? How many Electronic Engineering jobs are there? How many Mechanical Engineering Jobs are there? How many Chemical Engineering Jobs are there? How many Software Engineering Jobs are there? In the end you have to settle for a job you are not passionate about for a salary you can barely survive on… 800 dollars minimum wage… 600 for rent.. 200 can barely buy food for the week anymore…

Afraid to take a loan to go back to school and get a degree in one of those fields cause you know when you come back you would be stuck with a huge loan to pay and no job to pay to help you pay for it.

You being stuck at the mercy of your employers who most don’t look out for your well being…You don’t see your self going higher your are just stagnant and if your employer kick you on your behind you just have to seat there and take it cause that is the only job you can get…being hired with no benefits to entice you… No Medical Insurance… Its obvious that people would look at this and feel derailed and just don’t have to passion to work.

The PM need to work harder to fix this economy.

This is the most foolish statement I have eard from any politician in a long time.
So Dominicans mean to tell me that it is this Man they want to vote for again?
Tell Skerritt to look at his cabinet ministers and tell me ho wmany of them were employed before he paid them to run for him , not for DLP but for him.
This statement is the begining of the fall of Skerritt.

Surely, it must be of some concern to UWPwee supporters that their leader, their Great White Hope, has publicly told the world, without prompt, that no one in Dominica (not even his friends) want to employ him. Yet, he wants us, the voters, to employ him to manage the affairs of sweet Waitukubuli? Dat doh making sense!

It must also worry the UWPwee supporters that their choice for Roseau Central was employed by the government for years to improve productivity in Dominica. Yet, he failed so abjectly that the government refused to give him a new contract. The government rejected, discarded him! Now, he wants to convince Dominicans that he is the answer to our problems? Does this make any sense?

It should also worry UWPWee supporters that their chief economist, in spite of his academic qualification and his past posting at the IMF cannot get an employer in the great US of A or the Caribbean to employ him. Something is wrong here!

Reality bites. UWPwee supporters may not like what they see but the fact is, their “dream team” is no dream for Dominica; more like a nightmare. We are no fools!

To listen to this nonsense day in day out. Mr Skerrit we need jobs, an international airport, incentives for home businesses to set up shop in Da, provide the island with free wireless nationwide. That’s the new investors coming down. Theres no mire briefcase-toting investors coming tomopen factories. The new factory is the internet. Check Barbados, a prime example. We need 2 worldclass resorts, NOT hotels, with 400+ rooms. My town is around 150.000 ppl. You have a country of 60,000 or thereabouts. This should be easy to manage. Get to work, man. I am just hear reading this garbage on DNO, and must say that it is political suicide for a Prime Minister to be attacking a man like Sikiri…

Sikiri was raised just like Skerrit, myself and many youngsters in DA. Our grandparents raised us, and we have become very proud men.

Sikiri used to walk up and down the hills of Fond Baron in hot sun and rain to go to school. Our grandparents were farmers. On many days we walked the Fond Baron road in heavy rainfall with bags of dasheen on our backs. Our backs quickly turned red with pain. That’s what made us who we are today, but some of US do not seem to remember where we came from.

I loved kwibish (crayfish) but Sikiri loved Sikiri (river crabs)!!!!!!!

My only beef with Sikiri is that when he received a pass on the football pitch he would dribble the ball all the way in front the goal and still not score! It did not matter how many times I shouted “Sikiri pass de damn ball garçon the man would still continue dribbling all over the place. But it was fun playing against him (Fond Baron vs Lawiedout). I had the hardest tackle and rocked him many times! And with all his dribbling I still top scored many times in the Loubiere Football League.

Today, Sikiri is an Economist. Today, Sikiri is a Lawyer. Today, Sikiri is a Family Man. Today, Sikiri is still our proud brother from Fond Baron. Today, Sikiri wants to represent us with honour and integrity. My vote is for Sikiri.

They say Sikiri doh have work, but Sikiri is not the dotish Employed Parliamentary Representative who sent his money to a Nigerian con artist all the way in Spain. Sikiri knows how hard it is to make a dollar! He remembers where he came from so his hard earned likkle dollar won’t part ways with him that easily…

Sikiri is the man. I am not UWP. I am not Labourite. I am FREEDOM, but my vote is for Sikiri. LEAVE OUR SIKIRI ALONE.

NOW LET ME HEAD BACK TO POLITICAL EXILE!

The politics of diversion is been practiced by this present government and is growing like the growth of the geo-politics of food (a system of deprivation of self growth) in Dominica.

This is nothing more than a diversion of the issues to be addressed and the rigorous strategies and plans needed to forge this country ahead of, at least, its neighbors in terms of development. This may seem as an oxymoron, but these necessary or unnecessary statements will make no difference to the impact the ideas of educating and informing the masses based on the TRUTH period. The statements may be necessary because of the need to distract the un-favoring wave from the DLP, and this is important because it plays heavily on the minds of many of the electorates, at the same time it is not necessary because this time around, they are not benefiting the DLP campaign for re-election because of the adverse effects the idea of educating and informing the electorate is having on this strategy.

We are shamefully importing agricultural products at an astronomical rate that directly affects the growth of the majority of the populace and we are discussing people who’ve earned the tools to maximize their potential in so many ways. If we understand the geo-politics of food we would also understand how ludicrous this debate is.

We should hold both parties responsible to teach the masses about the importance of food production, especially since we are walking on the wealth and resources given to Dominica to excel in growth and developmen

Mr. Prime Minister, have you ever considered that, had you been doing a good job generating employments in Dominica, that these “unemployed fellas” would be employed? That the fact that they’re “unemployed” is testament to the fact that you have failed miserably? And you denegrate the call to public service as indicative of a lack of ambition? What lack of ambition are you talking about? The desire to do the peoples work without the need to enrich themselves on the public purse? Is that the ambition you refer to? You prefer they declare that they would like to follow in the footsteps of you and your cabal? Your disrespect may come back to haunt you. Careful.

A PM who is laughing at the unemployed. This man has no intention of creating jobs for us. Let us the unemployed come out in full force and get this man out on election day.If I recall when this PM started he presented himself as a university lecturer. From what I recall Dr. Thomson Fontaine is also a university lecturer. Can his be interpreted as unemployment? The Prime minister has just named the ones that he personally fears and are sure of wining their seats. Lennox sure, Thomson sure, Danny sure, James Alexander sure, and the lady from St Joe sure, Joshau sure and Isaac sure. Skerrit has just publicly accepted defeat.

It seems to me that Skerritt is rejoicing in the unemployment of his fellow Country men. Which Country leader would do such a thing? Skerritt is stirring up something which we don’t need in Dominica. If Dominicans re-elect this man, who gets paid more than his “EMPLOYMENT” salary affords – then woe be to that Dominica. I am now hearing that many of his followers are bailing out from supporting him.

He is stating a fact, they are unemployed. To an more to the discussion they are not innovative. During their years of unemployment they did not come with any idea who they could create employment. They could have gone to one of those course given by the government on how to develop a small business. But no, their main job was to sit in these rum shop and on radio and critize. Its not going to work. Show me how innovative you are and I might think about you wanting to lead me.

If the PM and you did some research you would find that all or most of the names mentioned by him own businesses and employ Dominicans. How many people has the Pm employed , with all the money that he is making. joseph Issac has a bakery in portsmouth and IROC subs and pizza belongs to him. Issac Baptiste has a consulting firm and just opened a hotel in Castle bruce wmploying people. The retired Principal mR. James alexander has a buisness in fond cole, never heard of maximum building supplies? Joshoua is a lawyer, Claudious Sanford teaches at the state college, he has a masters degree, and the list goes on and on. So wheel and come again and get your facts right. the PM had nothing when he entered politics, he is now the richest man in dominica with a 2 million dollar house plus villas so who is in it for the money?

After all, when UWP was in power the fact that you and others were employed by them is proof that they were able to create jobs even for their opponents. Those are very strong words by the PM which may appear to be true. However, he should watch those words as they may come back to bite him. Politicians should not critize other politicians on unemployment, because after getting out of politicians they’re likely to become unemployed. Skerrit has a job, we the people of Dominica gave him that job. We also gave him the mandate to govern fairly, within a democracy. As for his ambition…..yes his ambition is to get rich while in that job….and if by the yardstick of his gains…one can say he has great ambition…cause he has a million dollar ++ house in Vielle Casse, he has lands,. If Barack Obama was to increase his wealth and property ownership anywhere outside his salary scale…the system and the people would tear him down and kick him out. But NO NO, not in Dominica, we seem to be turning a blind eye and deaf ear. It is an outrage that Skerrit is still in the JOB that we the people of Dominica Gave him and he has in turn abused. And finally…what a shame to speak of people without jobs in that disrespectful manner…in a time when people all over the world, professionals, doctors, lawyers, builders, chemists, ordinary workers, office workers…have been waking up to suddenly being jobless. I totally support the PM this time around. There is a time and place for everything.

The only persons who criticize him for reminding the world that the same jokers that are claiming to have solutions for Dominica cannot create ONE solution for themselves and their family are those who have been the stung by the accuracy in the criticisms.

This PM, unlike any other PM in Dominica, has endured the most vicious assaults on his person and his character on a daily basis since he became PM in 2004. No need to doubt me, just do a little online search and you will see that the UWPwee has NEVER stopped slamming the PM. When they could find no fault, they invented. Not even his aunt or his current wife was spared. Yet, amazingly, he swallowed all of this. He never said a word.

Now that he has thrown a stone, you hypocrites want to cry? If you cannot take blows, do not dish out. I would not normally support gutter talk. However, every politician must know how to take and give blows. Hon. James and Mr. Linton are experts at throwing punches but too thin-skinned to take. Mr. Skerrit has not even stuck hard. He simply reminds the world of the farce that is the Great White Hope and his dream team.

I fully support the PM this time in his statements. He chose the right forum and his words were sufficiently measured. Now, let us await the next round.

Tan sot la! This is not a question of giving blows, this is a matter of a leader of a country telling lies on order to gain political points. Such filth and gutter behaviour can only resonate with people like you who, lack any kind of self respect. The people being spoken about are persons who are earning a living by operating their own businesses. They are persons who are creating employment for other, whether it is 2 or 10. They are persons who have gone to the banks and taken loans to carry out their business activities.
I am sure that skerritt knows that but he chose to lie to his supporters, supporters like you who are so blinded by loyalty that truth is a bitter pill to swallow. I feel so sorry for you, you in support of what you don’t even know.
Skerrit got and is receiving personal blows for the wrongs he has done, like cheating the IRD,making false declarations to the IPO commission, being involved in fleecing the revenue via the bins transaction and giving his wife duty free when she did not qualify and that is just the tip of the mountain. Skerritt is just mad that all his efforts to gain political traction by hastily calling an employment thingie, was exposed as a none sense.

Sadly, far from the truth. I have lost all respect for the PM with this last revelation of how his mind works. He has revealed himself with full clarity to be nothing but a narcissistic opportunistic egotistical man. Joshua Francis is an emerging prominent defense lawyer with his own office, employing at least two office staff. If he is unemployed then every lawyer in the profession is unemployed. How is that for ridiculous. Joseph Isaac is a sucessful business owner and entrepreneur(IROC pizzas and subs, and IROC Bakery not sure if the bakery still open) I believe with branches in ROseau and Portsmouth, also engaged in Green house farming and exporting dasheen besides working on consultancies as a technical expert from project to project. Is being a business owner lazy and does being a farmer mean being unemployed? Clearly, the PM has no respect for these and many other professions. I can go on about the other candidates, up to James Alexander who is a well respected and loved retired Secondary School principal of many years. Lennox Linton is a highly successful investigative journalist; his name is recognizable across the region. Is being a journalist unemployed because he is not on a company payroll? There is a different being unemployed and self-employed and the PM does not know this?????
This comment turns the PM into a disgrace. He will not recover from this. Besides, being unemployed is nothing to be ashamed of if one is seeking employment and has not found any. Certainly the PM should not have stooped so low and betrayed that his mind is made of gutter material. I am truly appalled.

He became prime minister under falseness where he got a few people including his advisor to sign a paper to take to the president that the people wanted him as PM instead of the one who was acting PM. This behind door meeting was held in the early hours of the morning to overtake the one who should be duly the PM when the PM in office passed away.Go do your research. Thanks.

We have to ask ourselves whether they are enovative or lack the will to do and see things through. If you can’t find yourself a job, tell me how you are going to do it for me.

    December 6, 2013

I don’t want to believe the PM. Are all these politicians really unemployed? If this is true and these guys aren’t motivated to get themselves a job or create a job for themselves by starting a small business or something how are they going to effectively run this country? Is this their master plan to get a job? If this is the case then the idea of them sacrificing themselves is a joke and an attempt to deceive the populace.

I knew Lenox hasn’t been employed and he said that he has been looking for one, why I couldn’t support him as a leader. That shows a lack of will, innovative and bothers along the line of laziness. I always felt that if he couldn’t get himself a job how can he create 5000 jobs? Someone enlighten me.

      @Change,

I think you really need to change your attitude and follow more objectively the political discuss now ongoing.I am not going to attempt to defend any of these guys on the UWP team because I think they are all able to do so themselves. Employment, contrary to popular belief is not necessarilly waking up in the morning and going to someone’s business place for 8 hours. I urge you to consider this, look at all the men and women in the Labour Party inner circle, and ask, how many have sacrificed anything to serve this country? I dare say that you will not find 2.

    • Sunshine City Girl
      December 6, 2013

#Change…please do your home work and do not, I repeat do not just take the prime minister word for it. Do a research on all these people the prime minister mentioned.

If the prime minister is not ashamed of the fact that these educated people, among others, are unemployed under a government that has been ruling for the last 13/14 years, then he is indeed either bold or delusional.

My family has been Labourites all my life, I on the other hand jumped ship years ago. As a educated Dominican with 2 degrees to my name and lots of common sense, I cannot support a man who thinks he can belittle the people of Dominica and then think that he can represent me.
The prime minister need to study the life of the late Mr. Nelson Mandela. It is not to late for him to make a change.

As a God fearing person, I am praying for the prime minister because he is a father who needs to show an example to his children and the other young people of this country.

    • FuturePolitician
      December 6, 2013

Unless the prime minister considers farmers and consultants unemployed. I know for sure that Mr. Issac Joseph owns iRoc pizzas and subs as well as iRoc Bakery and his own farm, he is actually providing employment for people. And Mr. Fontaine and Linton are consultants. In this modern world you don’t need to sit in an office from 8-4 to have a job. You can sit at home and have people pay you for your expertise on how to build a business or improve on your business.

    December 6, 2013

So I guess the PM is finally saying that the unemployment is really high in DA. Students take not that after you become lawyers, economist, mathematicians and engineers your PM is basically saying that it is very likely that you will not get a job. The last time I checked UWP had a few of those people on their slate.
Mr. PM are you saying that be happy you are blessed to have a job and don’t laugh at those who don’t. By the way, where is your class? Stop with this Sikiri nonsense name-calling. Let’s have intelligent informed conversations. Politics in Dominica needs to get an injection of class. You had that class 10 years ago. Don’t forget your roots sir.

I have listen to the oposition call the PM and others lazy. Now I can see who is really lazy and why they want to get in Govt. That is if they are really unemployed. If they are it is a shame and one cannot blame the PM. These are people who want to lead yet they can’t lead themselves? Come on people we have to start looking at our candidates.
