PM takes swipe at critics

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has taken a swipe at his critics who he says want to kick him out of Roseau.

Speaking at a town hall style meeting in Penville last week the prime minister said he will remain focused on his job. “I am focused on what on what I am doing, I am committed to what i am doing,” he said to loud applause from his supporters.

The prime minister said some of his detractors have been trying to chase him out of the nation’s capital but their efforts have been in vain. “They try to chase me out of Roseau and some say they have succeeded,” he stated. “But they have not succeeded in kicking me out of Roseau. Nobody is going to kick me out of Roseau.”

He described himself as “Roseau person.”

“I am a Roseau person just like all those who are living Roseau,” Skerrit said. “Roseau is part of Dominica and I can go anywhere in Dominica at any time.”

He urged his supporters to continue praying for him.

“So do not let your hearts be troubled,” the prime minister said. “I appreciate your prayers…continue to pray for me but do not worry yourself about what you hear. Nobody can touch me, nobody can kick me out of Roseau or Dominica.”

15 years ago a man named skero came on the political scene on the invitation of Rosie Douglas. That Rosie had the poor at heart, a miossion to development Domiica, clean hands and in his heart to make a difference for the developmentn of people in need. That Rosie then never used poor people and neither did he se the riches of the state and of the poor to enrich himslef himself. Rosie Douglas died a humble and clean man. Todays Rosie or Skerro is before the courts and has lost all credability to be a leader and champion of poor, so READER it seems that you are not living in the same Domioica that we do. The country is poor and focus on true meaningful Dominica has never taken place but with the operation of a red clinic where poor Domiicans were subjected to a low of walking up the steps of the Financial Centre to beg for money, food etc. That system and leadership has reduced Dominicans to beggars and a damn insult to our credabilty.. So please open your eyes and get to know really what development is.
    God bless and save Dominica.

skerro tell the people of penville and dominica alike of job creations, market for exports, legal aspects of inland revenue, the country’s state on deficits, small business, foreign payback (for sure the chineese are not working for nothing back), your countless travel for purposes unknown, and stop boasting of roads that you know being built by chineese is short term. and stop being too macho and disrespectful.

Dominica is no longer a priority for this our so called PM. He thinks he runs the country good when he is running it down the drain. Wake up Dominicans……then again bad choices made are currently affecting the Country and no one can stop him so he say.

It doesn’t surprise me that the prime minister chose Penville to make this nonsensical statement; that’s the only village in the constituency for some reason still support him. To talk about Roseau people trying to chase him is proof that the man has not grown one bit.
He should have remebered how he grew up in an environment that was anti E.O Leblanc. In the days of EO, while he would win handsomely in Penville and Thibaud, he never did well in his own village. His greatest enemies in Viellecase came from people Skeritte hold dear to his heart. EO was always popular in Roseau. So you know better than that Mr. PM. In case you were to young to know,he needs to ask people who was EO’s biggest enemy in his own village and and he will know who chased EO from Roseau.

Almost 15 years ago, an unknown young man named Roosevelt Serritt stepped up to the challenge and presented himself as a candidate for the January 2000 elections. I recall listening to him on the political platform and, in spite of his age, he was charismatic, intelligent and full of energy. Most of all, he was passionate about the plight of the poor of our country and he truly wanted to do his part to improve things here. Since then, he has worked tirelessly to do just that. That’s just one of the reasons why I love our prime minister and will continue to work together with him to develop our country. I sincerely hope all these issues are laid to rest so that he can continue to do what he loves best – doing all he can to bring development to our Dominica.

Many, even those who reside afar are broadminded enough to observe and conclude what he has done for Dominica that no other PM was able to achieve. Dominica is far better today than previously. He should be appreciated for this. He deserves all the encouragement. My parents would make the identical statements. May god bless him.

Mr. Prime Minister, you are a man in public office; you should expect people to talk and maybe even villify you. As a leader you cannot expect every citizen to be in favour of you and your policies so people are going to say what they want. I just find that a bit more maturity and professionalism should be exhibited on your part. You do not have to answer to everything. Choose you battles and make sure when you’re doing so it is for the best of the nation and my fellow Dominicans. Not too long ago I was talking to a fellow Caribbean brother and he was questioning some of the things that he’s heard from you in speeches etc. People are checking what’s going on in Dominica, so please sir display some professionalism in word and deed.

You are most welcome in Roseau sir, and more so any part of Dominica; you are especially welcome in the walls of the IPO office; we want you in Roseau, to answer the questions that you are running away from. So when you decide to run from Roseau, from the IPO, you wont have any excuse that people running you from Roseau. You are a strong leader. You will be ok comrad.

  23. A True Friend
    January 29, 2013

Sir you are going about this the wrong way and you are just working on the emotions of your people. You are from VC and should be proud of that, being the Prime Minister doesn’t make you a Roseau Person, are you entertaining the idea that Prime Ministership is too good for a person from a rural community? This is however besides the point, you have been accused of wrong doing. As the leader of the country you live a public life and as such you come under public scrutiny. You know well that there is always going to be opposition from both within and without and when there are alleged breaches especially by people we trust with our highest offices, these men and women must be made to answer. You need to grow up some and be more mature and rational in your approach. As you rightly said in July 19th, the IPO’s decision to carry out an inquiry into the legitimate ownership of Blair Court and the Villas is an opportunity to vindicate you. My friend you have to be more consistent and seek to have your actions and words compliment each other because we are listening when you speak. No one is trying to distract you or cause you to lose focus, once one engages in putting his or her interests above the country’s interest, then he or she loses focus. When a leader places a greater premium on his/her election or reelection legacy than serving his/her country’s interest, this individual has surely lost his/her focus. In this business it must be country before self and party and that is where the focus should remain. So please make yourself available to the investigation and let’s prove the critics wrong and continue with the business of building this country. If you are wrong, no matter how much we love you…. you have to answer and if you are vindicated, all the better. We want you to do what God has placed you here to do.

I find this to be Juvenile, not so much the speech but it making the rounds. Well what’s the purpose of the PM telling Penville People that he is a Roseau boy when they know him as neighbors. Personally, If I were from Penville I would take offense, or Veille Case for that matter. He could have said something to the effect that he is in Roseau to do a job and he will be there until the job is finished, in addition, my home is in Veille Case.

Dominica Politics is rather childish, and thrives on ignorance. The populace applaud any rubbish without even understanding what they are hearing. I feel pity for these people and will pray fro God to help them all.

It’s ironical that the Dear Leader would go to Penville, the heart of the countryside to tell his coterie of supporters that he is a “Roseau person” In effect he is saying he is not a country bookie. When I was growing up, country people hated it when people came back from Roseau playing “comsidee” and Roseau “persons” did not like the country bookies. Pray tell, what’s the difference between a “Roseau person” and a oountry person? What’s next? Are we going to revisit Phyllis Shand Allfrey’s “Rose-O” satire?

Nobody, ran after Oliver Leblanc, or chase him out of office.

Leblanc took it upon himself and retire from public office, while he was in office around 1958, or there about Leblanc made comments such as this: ” I may not be around;” we read that in the Dominica Chronicle, and also in the Barbados Advocate, those words were the beginning of the end of his political career, give credit to Leblanc because he knew when he should have bowed out gracefully.

He was not rejected by the people!

Let the story be tolled as he occurred, and do not distort history, Leblanc is still alive, living off the Taxpayers of Dominica, people get older, and decides to relinquish power, and simply phase out of public life!

I seldom comment on DNO but I have been waiting for someone to point out the problem with the way this article is written. I mean is that all the PM said at the meeting that was of relevance or was this part of his speech specifically chosen and skewed (for it could have been written another way, I argue) to solicit the type of discussion that is going on right now? I am not a one-party supporter and I always welcome when DNO posts all sides of the issues as it pertains to political parties in DA but I am disturbed by the essence of this article. In my opinion there should be more substance and a balanced representation of what took place. Maybe I missed a previous posting about the townhouse style meeting?

The PM is losing it. He must be a victim of the madness bug blowing in the wind or a casualty of too much babalen light all over the place. Hold on PM. We wait on the Court of Appeal or the IPO or 2014 whichever comes first.

Why put God in this nonsense? I agree God is with Him just as he is with all of his creation. But the question is, are his ways and dealings pleasing to God? When a person is willfully doing wrong every month, without repentance, praying for him not to get caught is not promised. What is promised is,”Know your sins will find you out.”
I wonder what he ask for prayer for? For him not to get caught? Sorry,Francis Chicago, you drinking your soup in Chicago without a problem but we in DA have had enough. We have cried enough and the cry of the people has been heard and finally I smell help on the way. Wee-pe-peep! Hurray!

Mr. Prime Minister: You amuse me, yet you sadden me. I have always thought of you as an intelligent young man, even if flawed. But your monumentally silly comment about people wanting to run you out of Roseau has shaken my belief in your intelligence. You can do better than that.
And by the way, attempts to change the subject by appealing to your supporters for sympathy will not make the charges of corruption go away. Only an appearance before the IPO commission can accomplish this, even if your lawyers vow to keep you away from the commission.
My advice: grow up, Mr. Prime Minister. The couintry expects more from you and you risk being left behind if you do not grow up.

Fear No More !!!! My brothers and sisters.

It is Skerritt and the rest of the Cabal who are scared to death, fearful of being questioned by the courts, the IPO, the opposition, the patriots all.

They are losing the people’s trust day by day. On one hand PM claims to be willing to face the IPO, then he and his perpetual defence SC make a 360 degree turn. Will do anything to prevent the IPO from questioning him about his declarations.

Dominicans should ask,”How comes is only PM Skerritt the IPO has issues with and want further clarifications/evidence/information about what he disclosed to the IPO?”

PM go to the IPO and save yourself any more embarrassment and suspicion. The IPO cannot send you to jail or fine you, nuh? But is the questioning the Cabal fraid. They fraid PM incriminate himself,i.e found not to be speaking the truth.

dominicans all, SC nor PM must be allowed to dismantle the IPO given its powers, mandated by the Constitution to go on with investigating the PM. The IPO, Electoral Commission, Judicial/Courts System, Police are all institutions under heavy manners. Our Constitution are being torn to treads right in our eyes.

Is so dictatorship start in Haiti. Innocent Haitians suffered under dictators Papa and Baby Doc for decades. The rich, Elite class was getting richer and richer, while the majority lived miserably. Millions were stolen from the Haitian people.

The few who had power, economic and/or political did what they wanted, disregarded the Law, set up ‘Tonton Macoutes’ to put people in line, shut them up. Intimidate. Create fear. Defending, protecting top officials and their ilk, aiding and abetting corruption and other illegal acts by all means possible.

Experimenting with dictatorship rule? Think again or we will all REGRET sooner not later.

Do you read the blogs featuring the local poitics of “other countries”? E.g Do you read the never ending partisan political blogs from St.Lucia one of our closest neighbours? I suppose you do not have time for that type of activity. Are you aware also that the PM is under a relentless, savage and wicked conspiracy to get him out of office by any means necessary? Are you aware that compared to that well orchestrated 24-7 attack spnning more than five years now, the Pm’s response is few and far in between tot he extent that when he does not respond his critics say he is guilty as charged? Are you aware of that? Are you aware that the Pm has rights like every other Dominican irrespective of who brings chrages against him? And that he is entitled to defend himself with every legal means available to him, including chastising those who seek to tear him down? Isn’t that an expression of our democracy. Every one is free to criticize and the one to whom the criticism is directed is also free to respond. Isn’t it so? Pm go right ahead and defend yourself by any and every legal means available to you.

In my humble opinion, this should not even be an article in the public space. Who are “those” people who want to get him out of Roseau? I am getting fed up with the PM and all these silly statements. Everyone knows that any citizen of the country can roam any community at any time without hindrance. What is needed, on the part of the PM,is for him to come clean with the citizens and have Mr. Astaphan stop making a fool of him. The PM said in July of 2012 that he was happy the IPO would investigate the alleged abuse of his position as Chairman of Cabinet. Why, then, is Mr. Astaphan now trying to have the investigation to be carried out by the Integrity Commission squashed? The PM not a man then? if you are to pray for skerro… then please pray that he owns up, and face the i.p.o… please pray he’ll be vindicated when he stands and tell the truth…… please pray that people n bandwagoners like ‘peeping tom’ aint in his ear like YEH YEH… telling him to do negative… pray for health, long life, truth and honesty for the p.m…..

I agree with your point of view it’s not a Country/Roseau thing it have to do with what’s happening in the whole Island we have to put all the people and the Island after God he is King of all he survey The only man we should be giving praise to is the almighty father The p.m must redeem himself before coming to his for mercy and one of the ways he can do that is to show leadership and stop Tony form making him look more guilty

there are so many competent people waiting in the wings to lead this country forward when the cabal of corruption has been defeated. not defeated by stones and sticks but by a fear of an even deeper poverty by the people. A fear of running this state awol with crime, violence and corruption. As the great late martin Luther King once said ,” no lie can live forever” NO LIE

The real correction due is in my spelling. For your own edification: Depose-remove from office suddenly and forcefully. I lived in Germany for 14 years. It is well-known that the Allied Forces cornered him in a bunker. What do you think they were there to do, throw him a tea party? The fact is that he was forced out. Had he not been forced into a corner, left with no other option than the cowardly act of suicide, he would have remained in power and your post would have been in German Mein Leibling.
