President of Dominica, His Excellency Charles Savarin, has called on Dominicans to put behind them last year’s general election, push politics aside and move forward.
Speaking at the First Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament last week, the President said the politics of an election do not provide the environment for moving the country forward.
“One unwelcome feature on general election campaigns in our small island communities is a string of broken and hostile relationships they create and leave in their wake,” Savarin said. “The separation of scarce human resources and capacities into coloured camps of anger, bitterness, recrimination and disinterest does not create an environment for moving the country forward in the interest of all, no matter how attractive and seduction Manifestos and platforms may have been.”
According to him, the election is over and all Dominicans who love Dominica must reach withhin themselves “to find the magnanimity of spirit that truly places God and country first so that all hands and minds can work cooperatively in building the country.”
“And what better time to do this that as we enter the Lenten season,” the President said.
Charles Saverind have to face his maker, and give account for his many many too numerous to mention sins of ommission and culpable sins. If the President is serious about forgetting the past general election, he must start within the camp of the Skeritt led DLP. Apparently, he does not listen to the Kamala show along with the PRO of the DLP on Wednesday mornings. Many Dominicans including supporters of the DLP and I would not be surprised even Skeritt must be hanging his head in shame when he listens to the supposed Doctor. What has Hon Joseph Isaac’s face or Hon Lennox Linton’s disagreement with the Speaker on matters of interest to the people of Dominica, has to do with their characters or leadership qualities. Mr President, if you really and truly want the olive branches coming from yourself or the Prime Minister to mean anything , the Aarons, Regie, must come to the realization that the elections are over, we are in a period of lent, peace and love.
Mr President how can we move the country forward when there are pending matters you fail to address. How can we move forward? Dominica is not the property of any political party. It belongs to all Dominicans. The more recent revelations about the Swiss Bank and the HSBC just proves that something is not right in our beloved country. Mr President you must use your brinkmanship to put an end to all that corruption that is plaguing our nation. Charles Savarin you as president have that responsibility to educate and enlighten the masses.

Joe, wouldn’t it be more useful to ask yourself why all these bloggers feel so incensed by mr. Savarin’s speech? We are simply the messengers. We are not responsible for what mr. Savarin says in public but we have every right to comment on it because he is the head of state and supposed to represent all of us. This was a very timely Speech; an Excellent Speech with so many new members in Parliament who better that a person with that special talent and knowledge to address the House in such a manner. 1979 era was a time when Dominica was under serious problems and you needed people like the now President to stand up for the rights of the people. Here he is again in 2015 and again doing what is right for the people of Dominica. What a blessed man. I followed him throughout the years and he is yet to disappoint me. President Nelson Mandela himself a union man back in his days, did what was necessary including leading strikes in a different time. If we can admire President Nelson Mandela and I do, why not His Excellency The President, Charles Savarin? Nelson Mandela would have admired him, I am sure of it. And what did President Nelson Mandela do in the later years? He spoke Reconciliation. Thank you President Mandela and President Savarin. Time to heal, Elections are over.

In response to a reporter’s question, the late PM Dame Eugenia, once famously responded that she believed bad elections are better than no elections at all. Should we let the jury decide whether we just had a bad election? Was it better than none.? As the old song goes , si oh tay Norway sar ou tay Kay faire.
With my primary school friends years ago, we used a smelly plant called “zacasia ” to escape classes. Once you opened the pod no body could stay in the room. The late Johnny Cochran famously referred to the pink elephant in the room. And Just like the stinky zacasia you can’t ignore them because everyone knows they are there. Sometimes it is the leader’s job to address the elephant in the room just like my teacher addressed the zacasia by punishing the offenders. I must admit that parliament is again becoming( and by extension the land which bore me) an entertainment sport. It ought to be opened to the tourist industry so visitors can go for laughs have lunch by our many favorite eateries ( if their tummies will permit em) to return post lunch.

Why should you move on? I have thought of this: because your face is not behind your back. It is in front of you. You are not walking back nor is your body. The retention power of many of us are infinite; we want justice in the country, you wish all Dominicans will wake up and forget the brutality, the lack of mere necessities to keep many alive, and the unemployment of more than half the country.

If you have the text in the bible that says what you wrote kindly enlighten me by quoting the verse/s where it is so that I can read it. The dishonestly of speech by politicians like Savarin and Skeritt has become a form of political culture. Remember the olive branch offered to the UWP, when you listen to Regie in particular, during the parliamentary debate, do you believe the offer was genuine. Since the last general elections, the UWP has been voicing their dissatisfaction with the results. In fact, the UWP has been contemplating criminal actions against the persons who allegedly had some kind of involvement in the dishonesty which took place on December 8th. Savarin is aware of the UWP ramblings and never though it wise to speak to the leadership of the party, low and behold, after all those months, we hear of forgive and forget. Like I said before, maybe, the man has become a born again Christian or Politician, now he is in his twilight years.
Here we go. We can do all kinds of crap, tell the public lies, and decieve the masses. However once election is over we can forget all the evils and move on, only to repeat the cycle every five years. This is not the way to move forward. How about let’s take a new approach. Encourage debates during elections, speak to the need to make the voter list a bit more accurate, how about holding house members responsible to the public. There are a whole lot more the president could suggest. How can we move a country forward together when we insist on keeping the status quo, and have a political system and process that goes one step forward, then four in reverse. Our leadership is a big joke.

If he really meant what he said then why did he not tell Skerrit that the presence of his bully speaker for a 5th term represents a continuation of the same old politics that have kept us divided. Furthermore Savarin, if you meant what you said, then why did you not tell Skerrit that your position as president of Dominica will greatly affect national unity, especially with statements Savarin made national radio, the Christmas morning of 2010, and later when the house of GON Emmanuel was fire bombed? Dominica was divided way before the 2014 election and will continue to be so as long as Skerrit is in power and surrounds himself with political appointees who are not qualified but only there to cover their corruption. the president should be saying all legitimate cases off election fraud will be investigated and we will leave no stone unturned.this will send a clear message to politicians,the people of Dominica and the International community of the high standards of democaracy that exist in Dominica.He has not done this instead hints to hide all election bobol.
