Prevost wants PM to discipline McIntyre on Roseau Market

McIntyre

Norris Prevost, MP for Roseau Central, is calling on  Prime Minister Skerrit to discipline Minister Collin McIntyre who is Minister responsible for the Roseau Market, for failing to provide him with the plans and estimates to cover the Roseau Market.

According to Prevost, in replying to a call he made for Government to cover the open area of the Roseau Market made whilst addressing Market Day with a difference in 2010,  Prime Minister Skerrit said that he had the money and the reason why the open area in the market was not covered and had asked the relevant Minister for plans and estimates. But for five years, these had not been submitted to him.

However, one full year later in 2011, with Colin McIntyre being responsible for the Roseau Market, Prevost again asked Government for an update on the covering of the Roseau Market, and neither McIntyre nor Alvin Bernard, representing the Prime Minister, was able to give an update.

Instead, McIntyre in his address at the market told Prevost, that the market is not the place to ask about the covering and he must go to Parliament.

But according to Prevost, “For Minister McIntyre who was in the last Parliament and who knows that I raised the matter in the last Parliament, to come here and suggest that I have not done so, is very dishonest politics. I first submitted the question to Parliament in March 2011, and asked for a written reply, as permitted under rule 24(4). The Speaker did not allow it. I again submitted the question for the last Parliament of 25th October. This time it was allowed. It is question number (9) on the Order Paper and reads as follows:

“Status of Plans re covering of open vendors space at the Roseau Market”

“Question from the Hon. Norris Prevost, Member of Parliament for Roseau Central, to the Hon Prime Minister and Minister of Finance for  House of Assembly sitting of 25th October  2011,  for written answer: With regards to the statement made by the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance on Market Day with a difference, that  it was over five years since he asked the relevant Ministry for the plans and estimates for the covering of the open vendors space at the Roseau Market, will  the Prime Minister inform this Honorable House as follows(a) What concrete actions has he taken over the five years and eleven months to obtain the plans and cost estimates  from the relevant Ministry, and the dates these actions were taken? (b) If such plans have been obtained, can he make a copy available to this Honorable House, along with cost estimates and proposed commencement and completion dates. (c) If not, what deadline has he given the relevant Ministry to provide him with the plans and estimates, and what deadline has he set for commencement and completion of  the covering of the Roseau market.”

No reply from government

Prevost said, “The day after the sitting of the House, I checked with the Clerk for the reply to the question. There was no reply from the Government. By Minister McIntyre failing over the last year, to provide the Prime Minister with the estimates to enable the covering of the open space at the Market, or even to enable the PM to answer the question in Parliament, McIntyre has embarrassed both Prime Minister and the  Government. This is a serious failure and warrants serious disciplinary action.  Whether transfer, demote or dismiss, something should be done. To do nothing would be a sign of weakness on the part of the PM. That is not an option for any Prime Minister.”

I stood watching the bridge which is under construction next to the market and what came to my thinking is that the market will soon disappear,GOD forbid.I may be wrong, but i see the market becoming irrelevant at the location it now occupies, and this is due to the fact a KFC was allowed te be put there and the bridge is gonna facilitate so much traffic that a new sight will have to be found for a market. The will be happy to taking over the market as i think it’s their intention.Alas!for the people who goes to the market to earn a living, but i dare say if this happens it will be their fault as they refused to do something against the construction of KFC.

Mr. Prevost this one is hard because Skeritt cannot touch MCIntyre because that would open an old can of worms like the “Gabage Bin Bobol.” In fact Skeritt cannot decipline any of his ministers because that would cause trouble which he cannot afford to handle. Not even Bobbles the man can touch far less McIntyre.

Mr. Prevost, give back the tax payers money you did not work for and that will help contribute towards covering the market.

You need to ask former DLP ministers Loreen Bannis -Robert and Vince Henderson to pay back monies they are recieving from the government because they are not working and yet, are recieving a fat pay check every month. They need to be investigated.

Hats off to you Prevost. Politicans go to the podiums and run there mouth make statements and promises and we never hold them accountable. You are playing very healthy politics and alot of stright minded thinkers will support your initiation although i have my objection of the area being covered.

Yeah, he should go to the House for true instead of criticizing the system from outside. However, the response is not due to him but to us the people of Dominica. That’s the true meaning of having Parl Reps elected by US, representing US and addressing OUR concerns. This is how Democracy works.
