Savarin commends Prevost

Savarin entering Parliament building on Thursday

Former Parliamentary Representative for Roseau Central Charles Savarin is commending the efforts of Norris Prevost for taking the “brave” move and attend parliament on Thursday.

Prevost is one of the three elected members of the United Workers Party (UWP) who boycotted the Parliament proceedings, after being dissatisfied with the December 18, 2009 general elections, that gave the incumbent Dominica Labour Party (DLP) an 18 seat victory.

Prevost however attended Parliament on Thursday and took his Oath of Allegiance.

“It is worthy for us in the House and Dominica to note the fact that Mr Prevost was in Parliament today Thursday], did take his oath of office, and is the duly elected and sworn in member of Parliament for Roseau Central. What it means Madam Speaker is that member has the responsibility to give effective representation to the people of Roseau Central in and outside of Parliament,” Savarin told the House of Assembly.

He said in previous years, Prevost was in the habit of coming in, spending half and hour, making a speech and leaving.

“We expect in this Parliament that he would come in, follow procedures and make his contribution on each and every matter that comes up so that the House of the people will be heard in the Parliament of Dominica,” he said.

According to him, Prevost will have ample opportunity to the concerns, aspirations, hopes and wishes to the people of Roseau Central.

Are the Laborites embracing Charles Saverin only because it is convenient to do so. If so this a double whammy cause one cannot take Charles seriously nor can we take what the Laborites are saying about Charles of any value. Let us not forget that truth remains the truth… Given the opportunity to lead and build an entity Charles bowed out. Why – because Charles does not have the backbone and “ Stick To itiveness “ . To those who think that Charles would take an active role in denouncing the … Labor Party –don’t hold your breath. There is no opportunity in there for Charles Saverin other than to blow Skerrit’s horn.
Charles had been demonized by the labor Party so much so that he was dubbed the Ayatollah. Now Charles is breaking bread with the very same people who called him the Ayatollah. After all Charles could become the Parl Rep for Portsmouth. Porsy people you know Ian … so no need to fight me on that. Short leave this cabinet. Mark my words.

like it or lump it you have to admire Charles Savrin…

This is the only man in Dominica’s history who has figured out how to live and retire comfortably as a career polititian.

No time or money wasted in degrees or startup businesses or charity organization etc…

You have to stand back and marvel, probably there is another model…hard work probably is over rated.

hey!!!!!!!!!!!! every body who is employed by the government [this one,,, or those before ]is paid with TAX PAYERS MONEY .,prehaps even you ”duly elected?”, your children and relatives are all paid with tax payers money. so what is your big issue that savarin is paid with taxpayers money! !!!!!!!!!!! you probably borrowed from him that same money you grudge him so much[ and is yet to pay him back] the fact remains that charles savarin is the best politician in dominica today and that’s what your problem is . WORRY MORE ABOUT YOURSELF AND LESS OF CHARLES SAVARIN brother man.

Prevost took a step in the right direction, but he must now show up at each meeting of the House of Assembly and provide representation for the people of his constituency.

As the only member of the opposition in the House he has a great responsibility to contribute to the debate. So, he should be on time and try to make an intelligent contribution to the proceedings.

Not surprising that you are unable to join the dots since 1/4 of western civilization suceptable to mental illness. But since 1/2 da population left after undergoing mental health screening during visa interviews=> we are effectively left with a population that has an estimated 1 in 2 succeptability to mental illness.
Chased by a French man who said publically “I have no problem educating dominicans for export” and
“some will fall by the wayside”

This does not even factor in the known influence of highest teen drug abuse in caribbean, unemployment ~30%.

Yes Prevost made a good move by going to Parliament because what his party is doing now is pure nonsense. Had they gone to Parliament that would be an additional forum they could use to voice their concerns. I would have liked to hear the sarcastic tone which Savarin used to commend Prevost, you know these two are the best adversaries (Remember when he said Prevost can BUY, PREVOST CAN SELL etc .

      It went over your head.
Prevost educated himself in a MASTERS of public administration at Harvard, and an MBA plus an Agri degree so he can be of service to his country, made several investments that have raised the standard of living for Dominicans, toiled in the soil as an agriculturist….
While the other did what? How many investments has he made?he Was rewarded for bringing down the same DLP under Patrick John. He was sent to play diplomat but achieved nothing in DA ‘s favour but has been unofficially educated/MASTERY in the transferring of dominicas resources and projects to non dominicans and how to transform the ‘DFP’ to become the ‘DLP’ in collaboration With the psychology degreed Frenchy. LOL LOL… Yes he has MASTERED this art while playing diplomat.

You named yourself correctly Coshonee LOL.
You all so blindly follow he not even realise he its no longer the DLP but a French/€ policy
With so much similarity to what was done to Haiti. After we ancestry defeated the Frenchy

  14. No business incubator for Roseau
    April 30, 2010

Savarin has no moral authority to attempt to correct anything. Who organised a 47day strike against Labour Party as CSA General Secretary? Who went into coalition with DLP when he was leader of Freedom Party. The outcome soon after was a COLLISION. His Party became submerged by chance or by choice? DFP disintegrated, while he all that time was becoming a DLP man. His DFP was no more, but that situation did not disturb him at all. Prevost has and will never relinquish his party or constituency for a few dollars more. Prevost has built himself from scratch honestly, with integrity and through hard work. Prevost has never been at odds with the Treasury. Prevost proposed setting up a Business incubator in Roseau to enable local entrepreneurs to do business and make some money, what was the response? He was snubbed by Savarin and his Govt. Instead some foreign concern got the same place to set up an off-shore medical school.

Prevost has spoken of and advised on development issues, but to no avail. DLP treated an entire community with scorn and utter contempt and sided with the upper class, the money man, man of material wealth and power, against the poor people of Layou. Prevost does not wait on hand outs or sell his party for material stuff. He has a history of hard work in the country. Prevost’s heart is clean because he has not betrayed his party or colleagues. Be frank, any person who finds him/herself campaigning on any party’s platform, then is appointed house speaker by the said party when in power must have a bias to that party. No effective representation can be given in parliament when the ruling party refuses to listen to the other side of the issue and rejects any good proposal or idea put forward by opposition members for the development of Dominica.

Well said. And yes it was intentional.
But note that the DLP is taken over by €U and DFP. With a greedy Frenchy with a psychology degree.
Was he not a young freedom movement?
Who and where was the French counsel?
Who was used to represent dfp in roseau south but lost his job after he has diluted bobby fredricks vote? Who has replaced him? Is it not another Frenchy?
Look at de chronicle back page. Is it not one of the only remaining DLP who was used to say “we helping our neighbors ” when he was to hand over Solomon quarry to de French company?
Tink is not spychology … ?
D more implicated the less can point a finger in d up and comming treason trial.

That was tactical on the part of the UWP. They know that they can defend the Marigot and Salisbury seats in a bar election. But Roseau is a whole other story. Prevost survived the December elections by only 8 votes.

So I don’t know how people are thinking that Prevost broke with the party stance. That was A UWP decision for Prevost to attend parliament.

  17. Channel 1
    April 30, 2010

This is a bit funny. Mr Savarin is cleverly attempting to paint Mr Prevost’s attendance to parliment as a brave and worthy gesture with the hope that the population will think that there is a break in the boycott idealogy among the UWP ranks & possible disunity. Mr Prevost’s attendance to parliment was more likely all part of a brilliant UWP tactic to maintain and strengthen their boycott of parliment without jeapordizing the Roseau Central seat. Prevost attendance ensured that the Roseau Central seat would not be involved in any by-election therefore preventing the Labour party from claiming it; the Marigot and Salisbury seats are very strong UWP seats and will more than likely remain UWP seats in the event of any by-election and once the UWP takes part.

Now supposing by-elections are called in Marigot and Salisbury, the UWP stands to gain more from the elections than the Labour party. Chances of the Labour party winning any new seats are very slim and by-elections offer the UWP added leverage to continue their protests against this government and its dubious actions. The by-elections also provides the UWP with an additional platform to keep their concerns high on the front burners of local and regional media.

    • May 1, 2010

      EVERYBODY TALKING THIS AND THAT,

HOW MANY BYE ELECTIONS IS LABOUR WILLING TO CALL, AND HOW MANY RED CLINICS ARE THEY WILLING TO KEEP , ?

I WISH PEOPLE TAKE ALL THE MONEY THEY GET AND STILL VOTE WHAT THEY WANT,. THEN THEY WOULD HAVE ANOTHER CHANCE OF GETTING MORE THE MORE LABOUR LOSE.

IF THEY CALL A BYE ELECTION FELLAS CONTEST IT, AND WHEN THEY LOSE YOU WIN BIG TIME; AND DARE THEM TO TRY AGAIN.

Why the hell do we care what charlo or any other politician thinks. Get on with it already. DLP do you have to comment on everything> sit and do your work already

  19. April 30, 2010

Mr.Savarin you full of it and who it is you are catering to Mr. Prevost was the very same representative that was in the house before when your party DLP the House speaker and yourself didnt show any respect to what changed it’s because the UWP stop you all in your tracks call for bi-elections in the other 2 constituencies and you will reap the consequence. DLP can fool some of the people some of the times but not all of the people all of the times.

“well i doh no ehh, but eef mr cwros de flaw too ehh den dat is it ehh for de dominica peeple.” I have to agree with the person that said that to me. Everything seems to be heading down hill lately in this country. I know by the look of all the partying and activities that seems to be going around that a lot of people think that Dominica is doing good, but in reality, we’re in a lot of trouble and the old say that if you put a frog in hot water it will jump right out, but if you put it in room temperature water and slowly bring it to a boil, it will stay in the water till it dies; sadly this to me seems to apply to what I now call, The Dominican Situation or The Dominican State Of Mind. May the good Lord be with us all.

      April 30, 2010

I would want to agree with you but you could have at least chosen a better screen name. Anyway, Dominica is going nowhere – fast and the normal person on the street is not even aware of it. I do not support the move to go to Parliament but as with anything we have to see if this strategy works. I am one who thinks that all three seats should be sacrificed at the risk of having a one party state. That would surely catch the world’s attention and have people like Skerrit on the same list like Noriega and the like.

But there is the other side that says that Skerrit only wanted the Roseau Central seat so now his wind was take off his sail the opposition can now focus on showing the world the illegitimacy of this government.

Whichever works is well worth the sacrifice that we Dominicans are about to make.

      May God help us.

WHAT IS YOUR STRESS? DULY ELECTED.??to go so far as to state that savarin has a french name demonstrates an emptiness that i;m sure neither savarin nor anyone else can feel for you . lol. for all you know you yourself have a french name since all of the names/ surnames in DA are either french or english.even the caribs have french or english names/ surnames , even the place names are either french or english. you probably do not know that roseau and marigot are french names like so many villages, mountains, rivers bays etc [. go do your research and learn something before you open your mouth]
