Leader of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP), Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that he will contest the next general election because he is determined to defeat Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton and the United Workers Party (UWP).
He made that announcement while delivering an address at a DLP meeting held at St Joseph on Tuesday night.
According to Skerrit following the party’s win on December 8th 2014, with a four consecutive mandates, he had no intention of contesting the next general election as Prime Ministerial candidate.
However, that decision has changed because he wants to defeat the UWP, “one more time” since members of that party have made him angry by “doing damage to Dominica.”
“Well let me say something here this evening and I want you to listen to me very carefully,” he said. “On the night of December 8th when we won the last election, I told my wife and a few very close associates and my colleagues that was my last election campaign as leader of this great political party. I had absolutely no intention of contesting the next election as Prime Ministerial candidate. But these guys have made me mad. These guys have made me angry. These guys are doing damage to Dominica that will take more than five years to repair.”
He continued, “I have now told myself, my work in this country is not complete. Not only will we rebuild this country in four short years, but I will lead my forces into battle one more time to defeat Lennox Linton and the United Workers Party.”
He noted that he wants to defeat the UWP and punish its members “for the wrong that they are doing to Dominica.”
“I am predicting here in St. Joseph tonight that we will take back no less than the four seats from them,” he stated.
Skerrit went on to say that the opposition wants to fight its wars in the international media, but he will fight his war, “in the homes and villages of Dominica.”
“Is blows they want and is blows they will get,” he stated. “Tonight I give you the assurance that Roosevelt Skerrit, God willing, shall be back to lead his forces into battle four years from now.”
Meantime, he told his supporters that he view the individuals in the leadership of the UWP as not being clever, but as “traitors to Dominica.”
“They are selling this country out, they are teaming up with others to portray Dominica as a place not worthy of investment, not worthy of residing, not worthy of visiting and unworthy of assisting,” Skerrit stated. “Years ago this would have been called treason, tonight I say to you they are traitors…and I want you to do the same as well. When you see them on the streets, in the supermarkets, at a funeral, on a plane or even in their cars shout out to every single one of them, ‘traitor.’”
“Every single one of them who join with others to tear down and destroy the name of Dominica must be called out for what they are,” Skerrit added.

Right now Dominica is almost an embarrasment to the rest of the caribbean . As far as leadership and functionality of the country . We need some new people with new tactics and ideas to get the country

The Dominica Labour Party was established in 1955 by E.C. Loblack and Phyllis Shand Allfrey, out of the trade union movement founded ten years before that. It was born out of a need to protect the rights- & stop exploitation of the ordinary working class. The first chink was created by N.A.N. Ducreay by expelling Ms. Shand Allfrey from the party for daring to challenge his proposal to introduce an export tax on bananas – yest, you heard right, mr. Ducreay wanted to tax the export of bananas!
Mr. Loblack resigned from the party in protest and joined Freedom for the rest of his life..
Is today’s labour party true to its principles? True labour supporters need to reclaim their party and go back to its roots if they want it to remain viable and demand respect. They should divest themselves of Roosevelt Skerrit if they want to rescue their party because he is far removed from the principles preached by the founders of their party, as valid today as they were back in 1955.
But you talking like Dominica political parties still have ideologies? See them red today see them blue next week … there is no difference; none … nada! All of them is one hot comess. No wonder so many are jaded and could not care less.

Back then she was interested in the well-being of the children and encouraged us to reach for the sky. She gave after classes especially before common entrance exams. Felix Thomas was one of these students. Some could not pay but she did not turn them away. She was a VERY GOOD teacher. She taught us honesty, discipline, to tell the truth and to also look out for each other. Today she is one of the members of Mr Skeritt Cabinet. Where did those teaching gone? However, what I heard from HER leader (not from Mr Linton), MISS DANIEL, YOU FORGOT TO TELL ME WHAT YOUR LEADER SAID IS THE CRITERIA FOR LEADING A COUNTRY. I did not want to shame you so I never went into politics. I guess I still have a chance then.
