Skerrit says he will contest next general election to defeat UWP

The Prime Minister and his wife at the meeting
Skerrit said he had told his wife (left) and colleagues that he would not contest the next general election

Leader of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP), Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that he will contest the next general election because he is determined to defeat Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton and the United Workers Party (UWP).

He made that announcement while delivering an address at a DLP meeting held at St Joseph on Tuesday night.

According to Skerrit following the party’s win on December 8th 2014, with a four consecutive mandates, he had no intention of contesting the next general election as Prime Ministerial candidate.

However, that decision has changed because he wants to defeat the UWP, “one more time” since members of that party have made him angry by “doing damage to Dominica.”

“Well let me say something here this evening and I want you to listen to me very carefully,” he said. “On the night of December 8th when we won the last election, I told my wife and a few very close associates and my colleagues that was my last election campaign as leader of this great political party. I had absolutely no intention of contesting the next election as Prime Ministerial candidate. But these guys have made me mad. These guys have made me angry. These guys are doing damage to Dominica that will take more than five years to repair.”

He continued, “I have now told myself, my work in this country is not complete. Not only will we rebuild this country in four short years, but I will lead my forces into battle one more time to defeat Lennox Linton and the United Workers Party.”

He noted that he wants to defeat the UWP and punish its members “for the wrong that they are doing to Dominica.”

“I am predicting here in St. Joseph tonight that we will take back no less than the four seats from them,” he stated.

Skerrit went on to say that the opposition wants to fight its wars in the international media, but he will fight his war, “in the homes and villages of Dominica.”

“Is blows they want and is blows they will get,” he stated. “Tonight I give you the assurance that Roosevelt Skerrit, God willing, shall be back to lead his forces into battle four years from now.”

Meantime, he told his supporters that he view the individuals in the leadership of the UWP as not being clever, but as “traitors to Dominica.”

“They are selling this country out, they are teaming up with others to portray Dominica as a place not worthy of investment, not worthy of residing, not worthy of visiting and unworthy of assisting,” Skerrit stated. “Years ago this would have been called treason, tonight I say to you they are traitors…and I want you to do the same as well. When you see them on the streets, in the supermarkets, at a funeral, on a plane or even in their cars shout out to every single one of them, ‘traitor.’”

“Every single one of them who join with others to tear down and destroy the name of Dominica must be called out for what they are,” Skerrit added.

I never get into politics, but, you made ME angry with that foolish comment. Why don’t YOU step DOWN and give someone else a chance? Dominica is NOT that developed under you ( News Flash!) Maybe you should let somebody else have a go at it? Who do you think you are, God?

Greetings to all right thinking Dominicans and people all over the world. ….
Mr Skeritt has become a clashing cymbal. Here comes Mr Prime minister calling people traitors and calling on his supporters to chant traitor. .
Mr Sterrett is an immature leader who is just evading the real issues of national debt.
So many allegations of wrong doing by this government of which Skerritt is part of…
They are the traitors to Dominica. ..
But honestly speaking the uwp must continue to expose them .. tell the world about their bad behavior. ..
Talking nonsense about uwp are against the friends of Dominica. ..
The role of the opposition is to keep you all in check.
This government has been doing so much nonsense, it’s time to get a new PM cause Skeritt days are over
    Poor Skeritt poor labour. ….
    Such a waste of a government. ….
Now call this writer traitor. …
Skeritt must keep opening his mouth cause nothing good comes out……….
Skeritt was a sign of hope but…

Right now Dominica is almost an embarrasment to the rest of the caribbean . As far as leadership and functionality of the country . We need some new people with new tactics and ideas to get the country
out of the hole it is in . We sometimes say we are better off not being under England . But I wonder what
it would be like if we were still under there rule and this point . I don’t think alot of the things Skerrit and
his cronies are getting away with would be allowed . They would have been arrested and sentenced already.

But that’s what happens when you allow hungry people to share food .

The Dominica Labour Party was established in 1955 by E.C. Loblack and Phyllis Shand Allfrey, out of the trade union movement founded ten years before that. It was born out of a need to protect the rights- & stop exploitation of the ordinary working class. The first chink was created by N.A.N. Ducreay by expelling Ms. Shand Allfrey from the party for daring to challenge his proposal to introduce an export tax on bananas – yest, you heard right, mr. Ducreay wanted to tax the export of bananas!
Mr. Loblack resigned from the party in protest and joined Freedom for the rest of his life..
Is today’s labour party true to its principles? True labour supporters need to reclaim their party and go back to its roots if they want it to remain viable and demand respect. They should divest themselves of Roosevelt Skerrit if they want to rescue their party because he is far removed from the principles preached by the founders of their party, as valid today as they were back in 1955.

So, of 24 clear dictatorships in 2011, three have perhaps slipped out of that category — South Sudan is in the middle of a civil war, and Syria’s Assad has lost control over much of his country. So … CHANGE.)

Syria: At least for the nonce — I think Assad has a decent chance of sticking around. (And four years later he is still around. We Dominicans like we’ve been told before have “memwoir poul” and we carry “our ignorance like a badge of honor”; have we forgotten that skerrit at the beginning of his political tenor stated clearly that he had no intention of ending his political career “minding pigs like Menyard Joseph” his then political opponent. Do you honestly expect this boy in a man’s body to be interested in the development of Dominica. The annals of Dominican history when it’s re-written will judge me right that this has been our darkest hour, and biggest political blunder; politics is big “Man” thing. Keep flying your kite sir; but mark my words for as sure as the sun will shine, you and your kind are headed for self destruction. Continue playing your Voodoo politics; God is not a policeman.

Dominicans should realize that labour is in power because of the lords choosing.Sirach chapter 10:1-5 says A wise ruler will educate his people and his government will be orderly. All the officials and citizens will be like their ruler. An uneducated king will ruin his people but a government will grow strong if its rulers are wise.the Lord sees to government of the world and brings the right person to power at the right time. The success of that person is in the Lord’s hands. The Lord is the source of the honor given to any official.

Fellow Dominicans what are we coming too and where are we going with this ignorance. we are letting hatred take over our minds. All we are doing is building barriers and walls to block and divide us, promoting hate, fear and ignorance. Thats why our country is not going anywhere. Take note i said our and not the country, because Dominica belongs to all of us. After the storm Erika, the leader of the country called on every Dominican to unite and work together as one to help build the country. Today the same leader is asking us, we the people to hate each other and to generate fear in each other, not because your party is in power for you to preach hate and ask your supporters to terrorize non-supporters. As a leader of a country you should not lower your standards that low, you should be able to rise above negativity, where are your values. I must say to the power hungry leaders of Dominica all reign must come to an end.

Mr Skerritt told his wife that he would not contest the next election, but now he is angry and says he has told himself that he will lead the DLP in the next general election. First he says one thing to his wife but renegs on his promise and unilaterally decides to do his own thing .What kind of husband behaves like this?No wonder his style of leadership of Dominica leaves so much to be desired. The true nature of Mr Skerritt’s Machiavellian, dictatorial style has been confirmed by his own words. His wife,I am sure is ready to settle and have a family life,so she is not going to be in agreement with this, off -the -cuff,mad man decision.I feel she will not take this. She has two children and wants some quality family existence.I don’t believe that Mr Skerritt will let his hatred for Lennox Linton destroy his family. Look at this , Skerrit is making this issue he has with Linton a personal one . And while he is doing so
I am yet to see any provisions being made for the emergency state Dominica is in . Whether we are for Labour or UWP . We have to do what is best for the country and the youths . There is a time
for all things political to stop and Common sense to start . We don’t have time for trivial things . We are
already behind . . And we are not in gangs . This is not a war between the crips and the bloods

For anyone, Laborite or UWP leader making those type of future plans, tomorrow is never promised – for the Lord who Himself, is the ONLY guarantor of his words is well able to say to anyone, “Thou Fool – today your soul is required of you”. He did it with the rich man who was building bigger barns to store up grain at the expense of the poor farmers. Anyone who talks with such a high level of arrogance is so far removed from the Lord who has numbered our days. I cringe at the thought that any human being can utter words like this, forgetting that the only hope that is without reproach is Hope in the Living God.

Neither Lennox nor Skerrit may be around for the next election people. There may not even be a Dominica in 5 years.

Labourats are the most stupid people I have ever seen, my God, is this the way I was when I supported Labour? One year into a five year term, Skerrit tells a stupid bunch of people that he change his mind, he decide to contest the next general elections.
Skerrit has not accomplished one iota since the last elections and his mind is on contesting the next, does Skerrit know what can happen between now and 2019? Does he recall Chavez visiting Dominica full of life and then in a shake he was begging Jesus to give him a few more years to finish his work on earth?
Skerrit is a Mad Man and the fools who follow him are even worse.

Does Skeritt really expect Lennox Linton to win the general election and he will not face the raft of this man. Linton has been hunting Skeritt for years before he became a politician, accusing him of corruption. According to him, things have done from bad to worse. Linton would want to prove to the world, he was right, Skeritt was a corrupted leader. Skeritt called the man, fraud, vacabond, traitor, uneducated leader, bully, joker, man with the booway face to name a few, and expect this man from Marigot to forget all those insults. If that is indeed the case, then it is not in the best interest of Dominica and Dominicans. Also, this is becoming a personal banter between two little boys. Enough already. They both need to step away from the political arena. Hon Skerrit has made his contributions and Hon Linton has made his albeit not in the political arena. Both need to make room for fresh blood, new ideas, new strategies, etc.

Hon Linton is doing what he knows best, being a reporter, he loves to talk and loves hearing himself talk and alas he has drawn Hon Skerrit into the ring. Step up JF and lead your party. 77. I like the way you said: “God willing” Mr. Prime Minister, for it has to be His Will at work for productivity of Life in its all. I am hearing God saying to you: “I am willing”; let us work together.

You just apply faith, trust, and humility and watch God doing His for our Dominica, through you and the men and women of your government.

Personally I do not see this “Will of God” in that attitude of Lennox Linton and his followers–God’s Love has to be the ground of man’s doing, for His glory–this is certainly NOT THE CASE in the attitude and conducts of Lennox Linton and his counterparts

How can those people believe that God would appoint them for any good works, I will never understand that.

For as I already said: God works through people to glorify His Love in them –He cannot do that in the works of UWP in Dominica; for that reason He will not appoint them–or else He would be giving the enemy victory against Himself; this cannot happen!

And before you run of your stupid mouth. Note: ” whatsoever a man seweth that shall he reap.” You are playing a dangerous game with the name of God, but remember God is not mocked, that is the game you are playing in the name of Skerrit.

However, remind yourself if you think that God is in Skerrit life, compare his lifestyle of living to yours, and tell me personally if God is on Skerrit’s side to a point where he has given him more wealth than his honest money can afford, ask yourself why the God you believe is helping Skerrit would cause you to be living on a welfare check, and have government pay your rent, keep you in poverty While Skerrit lives a billionaires lifestyle.

Elizabeth there are only two ways people earn money, and become rich; one way is by working honestly, and investing into something, more certain into buying and selling according to the Bible. Skeritt has lost the battle and he still lost the war. When he is gone, his greatest legacy would be known as unemployment. Like some correctly stated in a different article, his majesty is fully aware that his Labor jet is about to crash and there’s only one parachute on board for him and his family. To hell with the rest. He doesn’t care. If that man leaves office right now he wouldn’t need to work again for the rest of her life. While social security is struggling for pensioners he already has the best retirement package known to mankind. What a ruler!!! Not even Pharoe that could compare to him. 5 more years, 5 more years. Labor for life. Fools!!! At least he could have brought down Destra to shake her wonderful boom boom for them last night to cap off a great productive evening

According to Skerrit following the party’s win on December 8th 2014, with a four consecutive mandates, he had no intention of contesting the next general election as Prime Ministerial candidate.

    • @Not So Fast February 3, 2016

Why should it matter to you what he does if he should step down?

This is another comment of no substance. When are you people going to try to reveal the productive thoughts of your mind; or is it that you all cannot do that because you are nurturing too many negative seeds on its ground; hence no space for that which is fruitful?

      Just think about it!

When you can afford to buy a ticket to travel from Canada after 42 years and not beg SKerrit on facebook I will take you on. Meantime old woman go and count your lost years. You have nothing to show neither yonder nor skelter and shamelessly admitting it on FB. 2018 when you get a vep on Skerrit plane to come to Dominica like you tell him for voting I will take you on, until then go back to your dull miserable life Liz

Kid on the block, do you have a dictionary and if you don’t go and get one and look up the word ” Traitor” then ask yourself how is this that person.. Dominicans you get the kind of PM that you all deserved.

        February 3, 2016

Sorry Sir it isa not about you or for that matter Lennox Linton- It is about my home land—-just who gave you the permission to say that…we go see

Let’s just hope that the Supreme Leader won’t be attempting to contest the next General Election from a jail cell or, worse, the grave. The great and mighty untouchable King of Dominica seems to be under enormous pressure. The vultures are circling from all over the world. I know even Labourites can feel the sense (vibe) that something is happening with our Prime Minister and that “something” is NOT good! You can see the level of stress and fear in his eyes. It’s like he knows something is coming and he can’t figure out a way to stop it. In the photo above you see the level of grave concern on his wife’s face. This is not a look of defiance and readiness to fight back, it’s a look of “God please take this burden off my husband’s shoulders”. I won’t be surprised if we find out in the near future that our Prime Minister is very ill (God forbid). I do not hate the Prime Minister. In fact, it’s the opposite. I simply don’t want my once very close friend to self…

Come on Skeritt – Run for office to help the people of Dominica, and to finish the work you have started not for appease your ego by defeating Linton or the UWP this statement is juvenile at best. Concentrate on working for the advancement of Dominica, and the betterment of the people. Focus on moving Dominica forward, do your job well, and Linton and the UWP will be a non-factor.

What is your PR officer thinking to let you put out such a statement?!
“Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that he will contest the next general election because he is determined to defeat Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton and the United Workers Party (UWP)”. Fire your advisor and PR Officer, you are better than that. Stop falling into UWP’s traps.

Uuummmmmm, 1 or 2 elections campaigns ago, I heard Skerrit say that he intended to be in power in Dominica for the next 50 years.

So it’s either he was telling lies back then or he is telling a lie now by saying that he was not going to contest the next general election.

Anyone believe Skerrit? Definitely not me. I’ve heard just too many lies and conflicting statements from that man with my own ears.

Oh dear. The MADuro influence perhaps ? He’ll be lining all of his opponents up against a wall next …. I would suggest we yell something at him when we see him on the streets but that’s near impossible of course because a sighting of the PM on Dominica is about as common as a sighting of a crapaud. Now there’s an idea for a nick-name ……
