Skerrit tells party members it is not business as usual; warns against “negative forces”

Skerrit

Prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit has told members of his party that things will not be business as usual “this time around”.

Skerrit was addressing the formal session of the Dominica Labour Party’s (DLP) first delegate’s conference held in Grand Fond on Sunday.

He told members that they must intensify their efforts to make the DLP a more vibrant movement in Dominica and suggested that members must admit if they are not up to the task.

“If you have been nominated and expected to serve in a particular office and if the fire is not burning your belly to give 100 percent to the responsibilities that are entrusted to you, it is not too late
for you to decline,” Skerrit exclaimed. “Effective leadership at any level with the Dominica Labour Party today is not for the faint-hearted.”

The prime minister told delegates they must change the perception that the DLP only acts when a general election is drawing near.

Meantime Skerrit called on Dominicans here and overseas to unite against what he called “negative forces” and “those who demonize our country”.

“It must matter to all of us what persons hear about Dominica and the image they have of this country,” he pointed out.

Skerrit, don’t you see that Dominicans are getting fed up with you?
You are losing grounds. Too much lies and bobols going on in the place.

You truly are brain damaged… PM Skerrit is more popular now than ever! Only the disgruntled and confused minority of UWP supporters are against him, the vast majority of patriotic Dominicans support our Prime Minister and our Country.

Stop being negative and running down our nation! Be positive and help build Dominica!

It is not just business as usual, counsels Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, to his members of Parliament. For:

“If the fire is not burning your belly to give 100 percent, the responsibility that are entrusted to you———-.” “Effective leadership, at any level, with Dominica Labour Party today, is not for the faint-hearted.” There are a few other terms that fit with “faint-hearted”. One of them is “cowardly”

Through those words above I hear Mr. Roosevelt Skerrit advising his members of Parliament, that they should be prepared to function with “passion–the burning fire in their belly” to complete their works with 100 percent effectiveness–which wants nothing to do with “cowardly–faint-hearted” attitude and conducts.

I hear the Prime Minister telling us–Dominicans–that he is aware of what he is into, as our Primary leader of Government. I imagine that Mr. Roosevelt Skerrit is considering his personal situation, pending the court’s ruling; and he does not have to answer to anyone, pertaining to those situations, but God Almighty, alone.

Prime Minister, I personally trust your words, as God is my witness. If I cannot trust those words of yours above, I will never trust no other. However, you, alone, will be accountable to God, for the rewards of your work. That I know for sure. You know what you are into!

It is quite obvious that UWP does not have an agenda for the development and advancement of Dominica and its people. Their hopes rest on spreading propaganda.
For the faint-hearted who feel that UWP have a remote chance of winning an election in Dominica in the immediate future, rest assure that while Dominicans in general like to get caught up with party politics hoopla for fun and entertainment, they are sensible and responsible voters and know where true leadership and hope for advancement is most practical and feasible. Dominicans sent that message to UWP in the last election and will do so in the next election (2014).
As to those who are so desperate that for self-advancement they are willing to take their ignorance to the next level by writing letters (without authority to do so) to funding agencies, the parties receiving these letters are more intelligent than you think and can make a sound assessment and see that your claims are totally unfounded. Most of all they can determine that your intentions are self-serving and demonstrate a lack of respect for Dominicans and Dominican authority. There should be amendments to legislation to hold such persons with such contempt for people’s choice and for being so reckless in tarnishing the country’s image accountable.
We are a beautiful country and a free and independent people. DLP is not infringing upon our freedoms but rather are steadfast in developing our country and in giving Dominicans the tools and resources through education and training necessary to be part of the development and live more fruitful lives. However the actions of reckless abandonment by UWP and their minuscule supporters sure infringe on our voice, rights and freedoms.
For you confused narcissistic UWP members and supporters, what transpired in Egypt is in keeping with what transpired in Dominica’s last election. We Dominicans made it unequivocally clear that we want DLP for leadership and No to UWP. UWP members and supporters No Means No!!
UWP get your act straight and learn from the good stewardship by DLP. Either you with us or against us!
UWP one thing we can assure you and your members is that you all will not survive out there on your own!

In simple terms – where do you stand on morality and integrity. Are you still requesting evidence that the PM is a liar and Machiavellian in behavior. I also believe that UWP is not ready but I also believe that it is asinine to believe that Skerrit is the messiah and that no other person within the DLP is capable of restoring trust and integrity in the day to day government. For one moment doesn’t it occur to you that the PM is associated with too many Scandals. Are you so blind or too bias to think that all of those scandals are just only mischievous fabrications or that not one of the scandals is true?
It is sad that intelligent people can be so dumb and gullible.
Like many other Dominicans I thought that the DLP was the only party ready for the role of government. Just so you know I came down to Dominica just to vote for the DLP candidate in St Joseph. I voted for the DLP not for just skerrit. Some may argue that Diasporans should not vote but I believe that by nature of my continuous patronage and on my going investment in Dominica that I do have a right to vote. I have no regrets voting for the DLP but I also believe that the DLP must seriously consider whether or not the party wants to continue with Skerrit’s leadership. I am fair and I do love my country very much however I will not be blind folded by partisan politics. There just too many scandalous issues hanging over Skerrit’s head and it is shameful to concede that Skerrit is the only capable leader within the ranks of the DLP.

It is no coincidence that the UWp is attacking Skerrit and I am confident that the UWP do have legitimate reasons to do so- I am not so naïve to think otherwise. If the Labor Party creates the impression that Skerrit is the messiah and the one and only then why not go on a full fledge attack on the shepherd who is obviously not without blemishes. In the interest of Dominica and to a lesser extent partisanship maybe we Labor part supporters should start thinking differently. After all the more Skerrit and Tony try to cover up lies is the more they plunge themselves into the cesspool.

We think that the UWP is doing more damage to themselves and that maybe so but by the same token the Skerrit image is not doing the DlP any good. I call it as I see it. People may call me a liar or claim that I am pretending to be a laborite but I have nothing to prove but that I genuinely love my country. Will I vote for the Labor Party again ? That is left to be seen .

        You sound fake all over.

Skerrit may have his faults like all other human beings. But he takes care of his people and that is what we want. We dont want a squeeky clean person who doesn’t care about us. If Skerrit did wrong, I am sure that he has learnt his lesson. In the meantime my granny loves him and she would throw me out if I said anything bad against him. She say that while I am overseas “..is Skerrit I does turn to”. She knows everything that you lot are saying about him and she responds to that with a ‘Mafu chu’y. Yo pa meye.”, Then she plays Sparrow singing “Leave de damn docta.” She said Skerrit takes care of her medication and hospitalization so she prays for him every day and night. Can I go against that? Should you? What’s your point?

That’s what the dispute is all about it haven got to do with Parties who can win or who is best it all have to do with Morality and Integrity and I am sure you would like to know your children have those good quality inbreded in them they can go down the street with their head held high so you cannot tell me that the PM falls in that category I also believe that the PM have the wrong people giving him advise men like Tony and Hartley them have to go because they will be the person that will bring him down.

    February 14, 2011

Most of the Parl Rep are weighing the Prime Minister down. They are not influential and don’t provide leadership in their individual constituencies. It seems as if they want to make the P.M. pass out because he has to continously pull up the slack where the minister fallter. Ask for the one in Wesley mamsel is no leader just a follow and very vindictive.

    • truth be told
      February 14, 2011

Its not of their own doing but his dictatorial leadership style and his involvement in wrong doing and his blatant disregard for the constitution. They are more holding him up, knowing of all his wrong doings, than they are weighing him down.

      • Help the PM>
        February 14, 2011

Don’t tell me its not their own doing because I will not accept that. When persons decide to take on the role of leadership they have to demonstrate that they can actually lead. The P.M. have nothing to do with Parl Reps taking initiatives in their constituencies. Unless they get a written invitation to functions in the communities they will not attend. They don’t have a clue what is happening around them and you want to blame the P.M. He cannot be every where and is doing a fantastic job trying to carry the slack for those lazy Parl Reps.

It’s all about speeches and making an appearance and funcions and waving and blowing the horns. It is across the board. The opposition have a little more time on their hand so they will sit idle and chat but make no positive recommentations on the way forward.

So don’t blame the P.M. for taking leadership, that is what he was elected to do. Will you be comfortable if he was just as lazy and had no sense of direction like the others, opposition included.

They not holding him up, to putting too much strain on the man. Please give the man a break. He displays attributes of a dynamic leader. If he were to leave can you pin point one person in the political arena in Dominica at the present moment who could take on the responsibilty of Prime Minister and move progressively with it. No, No. So stop the dictatorship crap and allow the man to move Dominica forward.

Any time someone show strenght it is viewed as wanting to control. Some body have to. Are you suggesting that Dominica revert back to the laughing stock of the Caribbean or the world.

Mr. Skerrit, because of your national popularity those “negative forces” that try to demonize our country, can easily be quieted and stopped. However, you are the one Mr. Skerrit that still giving them vome because you have failed to come clean. No wonder you have to try to motivate members of your party to give 100%. Like myself, they have been hearing what you have been accused of and you have yet to come clean. We all love you in DA, but it is very offensive to me, when I hear your name in so much gabage and you cannot say anything to clear your name. Please tell us the truth Mr. Skerrit and nothing but the truth and let us judge based on truth. Also, I think you should be having such a conversation in private [with your elected members]. Doing this in public makes your party and it’s members look very much uncomitted to the development of DA!!

As for the Dominican’s who says bad things about DA and still want to visit…… they should just surrender their passport. Don’t get me wrong, it’s ok to be critical about DA… but it’s another thing to do it in a disdainful & ugly way!!!

The haters will look for ways to spin his words but Skerrit is right.

We complain about lack of jobs, but foreign direct investment is the best way to get new businesses in the country to employ our young people. The gov’t can’t hire everybody!

Two of the main factors which attract investors are infrastructural development and political stability. Yet when the PM goes out to get funding to develop our infrastructure without crippling us with more debt, haters say he’s just a beggar, and that building infrastructure is not development.

Skerrit builds relationships so that young Dominicans can go to places like Venezuela, China, Morocco, to develop the human resource in D/a, the haters only focus is to say that Skerrit is aligning with communists.

Why would an investor choose to come to D/a right now when the opposition is preaching that we’re under a dictatorship, and warning that a situation like Egypt might be around the corner in D/a? Such rhetoric is a definite deterrent to a potential investor.

Out of desperation to remain relevant the UWP politicians and their cronies exaggerate the situation in the country. They are willing to put their personal political ambitions before the image and development of our country. It’s downright shameful if you ask me.
