Statement by former prime minister of Dominica, O.J. Seraphine, on the death of Patrick John

Oliver Seraphine

Oliver “O.J.” Seraphine is a former prime minister of Dominica who served in an interim capacity after the removal from office of Dominica’s first prime minister, Patrick Roland John.

John, who  led Dominica, a former British colony and associated state, to independence in 1978, died at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital this morning.

In the following statement, Seraphine pays tribute to the man who can perhaps be aptly described as the father of the Dominican nation.

GOD DEFENDS AND PROJECTS HIS OWN

The God of PJ’s strength, in whom he trusted; your shield and the horn of your salvation, his stronghold and my refuge; his Saviour, You saved him from the BACKBITERS and VIOlENCE he called upon you LORD, who is worthy to be praised; so he shall be saved from his enemies.

But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name be joyful in You. For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.
