Stay out of US-Venezuela dispute – UWP to PM Skerrit

The United Workers Party (UWP) is warning Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, that he should stay clear of a dispute which is raging between Venezuela and the United States.

The UWP said on Thursday that “Dominica has no issue with the United States of America where thousands of Dominican born human beings have been able to earn a living, make their homes and support their relatives and friends in Dominica who are struggling more and more everyday to make ends meet under his administration.”

Last week US President Barack Obama, issued an executive order which considers Venezuela a threat to the national security of the United States. The US also slapped sanctions on a number of high ranking Venezuelan officials accused of violating “the human rights of Venezuelan citizens” and engaging “in acts of public corruption …”

At an ALBA summit in Venezuela Skerrit described the actions of the US as “unfair” noting that “no country has such authority to impose a measure that way to a country like Venezuela or any country.”

But Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton said that “by unreasonably challenging America’s right to determine if, when and by whom its national security is being threatened, Mr. Skerrit is threatening the security of our own US-based Dominican and other Caribbean brothers and sisters who are dependent on the US government for their protection and the enhancement of their quality of life”.

The UWP is now calling on the Prime Minister, “to stop compromising the public interest of Dominica by thoughtlessly poking his nose and selfishly taking a side in yet another diplomatic flare up between the United States and Venezuela.”

See full UWP statement below.

Roseau, March 19th, 2015 – The United Workers Party (UWP) is reminding Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit that Dominica has no issue with the United States of America where thousands of Dominican born human beings have been able to earn a living, make their homes and support their relatives and friends in Dominica who are struggling more and more everyday to make ends meet under his administration.

Parliamentary Opposition Leader Lennox Linton says that “by unreasonably challenging America’s right to determine if, when and by whom its national security is being threatened, Mr. Skerrit is threatening the security of our own US-based Dominican and other Caribbean brothers and sisters who are dependent on the US government for their protection and the enhancement of their quality of life”.

The UWP is therefore calling on Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit to stop compromising the public interest of Dominica by thoughtlessly poking his nose and selfishly taking a side in yet another diplomatic flare up between the United States and Venezuela.

Earlier this month, US President Barack Obama issued an executive order declaring Venezuela a threat to US national security. The White House said the order targets Venezuelan government officials who:

  • undermine democratic processes or institutions
  • commit acts of violence or abuse of human rights
  • are involved in prohibiting or penalizing freedom of expression or
  • are involved in public corruption.

Mr. Skerrit who is systematically undermining the democratic processes and institutions in Dominica and who has done nothing about his own December 2014 accusations of organised crime taking place with the issue of visas and work permits by the Labour Division of Dominica, is bitterly criticizing the US decision in an irrational show of support for the Venezuelan leader.

Speaking at a specially convened Caracas meeting of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), which was called to show solidarity for Venezuela, Skerrit said the US action was “unfair and inexplicable.” But he made no mention of the US concerns of undemocratic governance, criminalization of legitimate protest action, violation of human rights, public corruption and provocative anti-US diplomatic posturing by Caracas.

Mr. Skerrit is attempting to insert his greed driven, personal agenda into a dispute between two sovereign countries by advocating for America to be deprived of the very same privilege of self interest independent action that he claims for Venezuela.

If he is in fact pursuing a balanced foreign policy agenda that makes us friends of all and satellites of none, then Mr. Skerrit has a moral obligation in the enlightened self interest of Dominica to stay out of this dispute and allow America and Venezuela to sort out their differences through dialogue and diplomacy.

My comments are not intended to criticize any particular point of view – I am only making a few observations.
First as Prime Minister, one must always consider himself – as the representative of his country. The Prime Minister must guard against making ‘personal’ comments when on an international stage. It is the job of the opposition to oppose or find fault with the Government in power. It is has always been the case in Dominica.
Without contest, the United States is the most desirable destination in the world. People the world over benefit and prosper because of the United States. That fact cannot hind the reality, that this same ‘great’ country has been responsible for some of the history’s greatest atrocities. None can deny. So too, even if Cuba was at the forefront of the struggle against Apartheid – we cannot deny the untold persecution that it has levied against its own people who are/were decedents. Venezuela may have helped us – that does not make them innocent – Be…

Hello, please stop being scared of a nation who select what nations it attacks and which nation it negotiates with. The U. has done nothing for the people of SYRIA who are being killed by their friend. They did nothing in Zimbabwe. They have punished Cuba for over fifty years, please. What has Venez done to the USA, can Obama tell us why Venez is a threat to US safety but Venez Oil is good for US economy. They lead a decrease in oil prices to impact Venez, Russia amd Iran economy. US talking about human rights only when it suits them, stupes

I wonder if those criticizing Prime Minister Skerrit understand what is going on with the US and Venezuela? I also wonder if they know which countries make up ALBA? Skerrit as a member of Alba and he has every right to stand in solidarity with Venezuela and also, he is not alone. Venezuela today has very strong backing from its neighbors against what almost every government in the region sees as an attempt to destabilize the country.. Skerrit has not taken any position to antagonize the USA or to jeopardize Dominica’s relations with the USA. Too many people are on this forum biting off more than they can chew. The Prime Minister of St. Vincent made a stronger statement than Skerrit and Vincentians did not see it detrimental to their security or in any way harmful to their country’s relations with the USA. What we have is a bunch of sour grapes who have not recovered from the election defeat the Labour party dealt to the opposition.

Some people just don’t get it. Venezuela has no problem with the US. In fact it is the US that has a problem with Venezuela. All Skerrit is saying is America should leave Venezuela alone and nothing is wrong with that. Who on earth knows two people very well and will not step in to quell a heated argument between them? When America decided to invade Iraq, the Pope voiced his opinion against it and asked Bush not to invade Iraq. I did not hear not one Catholic say that the Pope has no right to get involved in it. Some people are too damn hypocrite. Don’t you know that there are citizens of Venezuela as well as all the other members of Alba living and working in America? Again we see Linton and his followers displaying downright infantile behavior. Mah qwaysah!

There was a saying in creole I don’t know if it is still in use.

“They love the biscuit but hate the American”

For hurricane David other countries helped but none came close to the US.
1000s upon 1000s of pregnant Chines women are coming to the US to give birth so that their children can have a US passport.
Put all the nations of the world together, more people are coming and want to live in that great nation.
Dominica is benefiting tremendously because of people with relatives living in the U.S.I know a couple who are sending over ec$26,000 every yr.and that is dry cash plus barrels.
When America and other nations came together to free Kuwait from Saddam America was accused of wanting their oil.At war with Saddam is oil the US want all now so is oil the U.S. want.
I was listening to DBS 3 weeks ago and it was said America have so much oil that there is no place to store them, and I heard the same news on a TV here in the US

Dogberry, for your information it is Obama that is undermining the congress. It is Obama that is showing utter disrespect for we the people of America. When the president said congress will not be involved in the negotiations between his administration and Iran. The man is insulting us,because just 5 months ago we gave the republican party the house and senate. The 47 senators who wrote the letter was speaking 4 us, because we voted them to speak on our behalf,so by letting the leaders of Iran know that any treaty signed by Obama without their approval will have no teeth by the next administration. That is not undermining.
According to the U.S.constitution.ONLY THE SENATE HAS THE POWER TO REJECT A TREATY SIGNED BY THE PRESIDENT.
In the U.S.there is what is called “Checks and balances and separation of powers” and that is to prevent dictatorship.I can continue but….

Whatever Obama is and pertaining to what he said, he will use his executive power to veto the Senate’s decision, as bold as he is, some of you appear to caste aside that Venezuela aided Dominica. Therefore, the PM was within his right to make such a statement. He did not threaten the US. This is something you should take into consideration.

After a while the listener (s) will get fed-up of you to the extent, you will be avoided at all costs.
Even though you are behind a computer and the readers do not know you and cannot see you, such words become boring, depressing and do not benefit others. No one will want to read your comment. This goes for the others who do as you do.

Have you ever given it a thought that nothing is hidden from God and that He knows, sees and hears all things? The Lord said, “Vengeance is Mine! I will repay!” He will repay everyone who cause division, disunity and lack of peace. There are more. Examine yourself and your conscience..
This is what some of you cannot stand to hear. You want everyone to bring down the PM and make evil statements about him. He is not that bad. God knows it. The bad ones are those who band against him, encourage others to hate him and make debasing comments about it. It is not fair to him. God will deal with people as you in time.

The President of the United States has made four points clear why he has decided to issue the sanctions. Skerrit must tell Dominican which of the four points made by Obama he disagrees with. It is not enough to show support to wrong things because someone is your friend. Again, the inexperience of Skeritt in foreign affairs is blatantly showing. As Chairman of the Caribbean group, he should address the situation from the Eastern Caribbean Organization point of view, by first discussing the matter with President Obama and then report his findings to, the Caribbean Governments, ALBA and Dominicans. Maybe, he feared having a meeting with Obama during those troubling times, might cause a rift between himself and Maduro.

Fools, ever since I knew myself the US policy concerning corrupt leaders and leaders that abuse and oppress their people, has been the same. Their policy is nothing new to Skerrit. In the past 25 years Venezuela has not changed its human right attitude. That Skerrit knows about too.

In November 2013, less than two years ago, that leader had an option to choose between the so called well loved policies of Venezuela that he always tries to defend verses the much hated and what he refers to “unfair” policies of the USA. So Lennox, you believe the US will punish us because our PM exercised his freedom of speech? The US has more to worry about than our PM being sympathetic to Venezuela. While Obama is trying to make peace, the Republicans are trying to undermine his efforts. There is ISIS to deal with; Netanyahu; North Korea; Putin; death threats against US ambassadors overseas, and much more. There is such a thing as free speech – freedom of speech. Some D/cans criticize the PM for supporting Venezuela and speaking out. They criticize him in every respect. The Prime Minister is right. Linton tries to exploit every situation in order to gain cheap political milage. Linton’s policy has always been one of antagonism. He has never given any verbal or moral support to the Government of Dominica. Does he ever look at the international news? Has he not seen how the different leaders in both America and Europe put their differences aside for the common good? It seems that in an effort to to sway public opinion, he says anything. No matter who our friends are, if we do not have the moral backbone to condem what is wrong. ……who are we? We should never forget that “a threat to justice anywhere, is a threat to justice every where ”
Obama should try to show that he is on the side of the oppressed. He should focus on how he can change the lives of the countless millions of black Americans who suffer so much because of racism and economic deprivation. Does Linton know about the suffering and exploitation of women in Saudi Arabia ?

    • The Facts

It is obvious that Linton never appreciated what Venezuela did for D/ca. I call him ungrateful.
Any country which assists D/ca, I will support them. Those who do not are also ungrateful. These are the ones who support Linton and remain at his side no matter what he says. My other view of them is, they are unfair.

The Uwp leader sound such a wimp, petrified of America, what exactly are they going to do bomb us as the did Iraq,Libya etc. I dont think so, maybe if we had oil. After all Dominica is an independent state and as such our PM is allowed to voice his opinion on matters he considers important. We in dominica appear to be so out of touch with current affairs. I would hazard a guess and say that the majority of the caribbean leaders would be supporting Venezuela.

So, by your logic, if the government of Venezuela commits genocide against its people, Dominicans should support them because we have accepted their hand outs in the past? Essentially, our nation has assumed whore-status?

I think you are the one a bit out of touch here, the world is highly interconnected and peoples of various nations can identify with the struggles of their counterparts in countries near and far. We would not tolerate in Dominica, what the people of Venezuela must endure under their current administration. If nothing else, our leader should remain silent. He is the representative of the Dominican people, and the majority of Dominicans do not support the actions of Maduro and his camp.

The thing is that most Dominicans look up to America and hold her in high esteem. America is not what she portrays to be. Do some research and find out America’s role in other nations with resources, especially oil. Who has the so-called Middle East (North-eastern Africa) the way it is? Who supports Israel with arms to fight against the Palestinians? Who created Isil? If Dominica had oil America would have her army in place and would be controlling the resources.
Wake up! my people, and do some research instead of just talking.
What is wrong with the Prime Minister supporting Venezuela? Venezuela has been supportive of Dominica so why turn our backs on her when she needs our support?
The thing is, if America cannot control the resources of other countries, they will attack these countries by placing embargoes and sanctions against them and make the world believe that these countries are communists and that they have the right to invade them.

Do you realize that America is exporting oil and soon will become the worlds largest exporter of oil. They don’t need to invade any country for their oil. Venezuela have oil but no food or toilet paper. Dominicans living in America have everything if the want to work for it.

I agree with the position that the UWP leader has taken. It is his democratic right and responsibility..The fact of assistance from Venezueal does not justfy supporting them regardless of what actions they take in the hemisphere and against their own people….I support also the position of the US and President Obama.. He has an obligation to the security of the US and its interests in the region.. To do otherwise would be a violation of his duty..Those who hold an opposite view should consider the vast remittances from our Dominicans in the US, the extent of trade, tourism, the medical schools, ..and even the haste with which folks like Skerrit himself and Tony Astaphan have established a beachhead in the US ..not in Venezuela… in case

The PM has a right to support Venezuela. Who in their right mind would not do so when Venezuela assisted them?
Furthermore, who commenced the uprising in Venezuela? It was the opposition and supporters. Something has to be done within a country to quell uprising and to restore peace. A country cannot function if there is no peace. It is something that Obama did not consider.
Frankly, I am disappointed in Obama. I have previously stated it that I was an avid Obama supporter but not anymore. Another time I will cite my reasons. Obama himself is a dictator. We, the sensible only have to listen to the politics of America and what is transpiring in their Parliament. Do these critics not listen to US politics and other news?

Remember that brazen statement. There was no concern about the Us being angry against Dominica. If Lennox only started taking interest in the politics of Dominica after he was delivered the leadership of the UWP, then he must understand there are quite a few Dominicans who have been following Dominican politics for years including the period May 1995- January 2000. Obama has just restored diplomatic relations with Cuba in spite of their human rights violations. Now he is imposing measures against Venezeula instead of letting them work out their own internal problems.

The USA loves to tell smaller nations how to conduct their affairs. When it is ignored it throws a prissy fit and threatens them with sanctions. America stands ready to tell a tiny nation like Israel what it can or cannot do with its land.

Noticeable is the way America has used its size on the world stage to force its liberal mindedness on small nations in the Caribbean. Their ambassadors to island nations have been known to depart from diplomatic protocol and scold their host nations for not supporting same sex marriages. The reason you may have not found anything on Dominica, is because we get ours from the method, or through the Caribbean Basin. If you notice Jamaica, and Venezuela is not considered part of the Caribbean basin, it ranged from Barbados, to St. Kitts, Nevis and Anguilla.

That money is dispersed via the American Embassy in Barbados. The last time I remember we got something from the United States, is when Skerrit insulted the American who presented the gifts by handing him two bottles of Dominica cheap white rum, as if to say drink it and get drunken, you do not have such good rum in America.

What Skerrit does not realize is that there is more alcohol manufactured in America, than all of Skerrit’s millions can buy, and if that man wanted run he could have got it from St. Croix, or Puerto Rico, which are US Territories, where rum is distilled! It appears to me there will be a lot of people who will be punished, the ungrateful ones and who wish others evil. It is better to do good than evil; far better.
Therefore, you must be fair and just, always be loving and kind. If you do not have those godly virtues, you should pray to God for them.
I expect you are a Christian. Recall what Our Lord said, “Those who do not use their gifts/talents, they will be taken away and given to others who make use of them.” These will be punished.

Naturally, if France wants to move forward with a sanction or a ban…or present an issue to the U.N it is obvious that they would need the backing of their close allie the United States… However if the U.S does not share the same views as them…the U.S has to let France know what are their views based on the matter. Not because you and someone are partners you have to go with every thing they say… From the looks of it Skerrit is afraid of saying no to Venezuela because every time he goes to beg Maduro gives him knowing that Skerrit is unable to pay him back. Therefore, he looks for undeniable support when situations like this one arises. Skerrit is just the pawn in this game between the U.S and Venezuela. Maybe MAMMY need to pray so he can open his eyes.

Please ask the Prime Minister of Dominica what is his view on the leaked HSBC Banked files which showed that President Chavez bodyguard became a millionaire on the Revolution! “The official listed on that account is Alejandro Andrade, who started off as a bodyguard for the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez and rose through the ranks to become National Treasurer from 2007-2010. Andrade was also president of the Economic and Social Development Bank of Venezuela (Bandes) from 2008-2010. During his time at the financial institution, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York charged four Bandes officials in a kickback scheme that generated $66 million revenue for a Miami brokerage, but Andrade was not named in the suit, according to the ICIJ.” What is your view on thieves in the brotherhood or comradeship as you guys call each other, my comrade Prime Minister?

      March 21, 2015

You are hypocritical. You are now calling him friend?
Dominica will suffer because many of you are not fair and grateful and you do not support your PM.
Maduro is no more a crazy man than you are. Due to your comments, I often wonder if some of you have any sense at all, are still within your senses and if you have entirely lost it.

  54. Go To Hell!!
    March 19, 2015

Skerrit done send all of us Dominicans to Hell already and now he wants us to lead us to hell? Tell Skerrit the best thing for him to do is to go to Venezuela and fight in the defense of those corrupt leaders and see if he will not get to go to hell before any of us. One thing, I hope when he gets there he will not look for me to help quench his thirst there.

    • The Facts
      March 21, 2015

Oh please, you wish people the same. You are a sinner wishing other sinners evil, some who may not be as bad a sinner as you.
You will be there long before anyone who will go there – to Hell. Mark my words, he will not go there.
Look out for your soul and pray to God for repentance. Make penance and restitution.

This is the best advise I have heard from UWP.
Cats dont have no bussiness in dog race.
It is because of the bad decisions from stubborn head Skerrit that Dominica is in such a debacle and striff.
Drugs dealing is on the rise, crime and unemployment.
The U.S knows which carribbean islands and leaders who are not supporting its goals, and as the saying goes ” we will take care of our own!”

Yeah ,,, that’s right .. Waitikbuli should just stand idly by while its friend is being bullied by the US … and make no mistake about it .. this act by the US is nothing less than kicking an opponent when they are down. Obama is such a dissapointment … trying to curry favour with the right wing of the Democratic party attempting to make things easier for his successor in 2016.
The UWP does itself no favours in suggesting that we passively and tacitly condone the US in its actions. That would be spineless and cowardly. At the end of the day while our citizens seek better lives in the US (and they have every right to do so) US foreign policy in the last decade has helped impoverish the region, not the least in its spport for the destruction of our banana industry. This is not a claim you can level at Venezuela. While I am no Skerrit fanboy , I thing he got this call right.

      March 19, 2015

I agree, you can stand by a watch a country that’s been a friend with you and don’t stand with them in times of need. I guess that how the UWP plans to deal with its friends.

        March 19, 2015

The worst spin I’ve ever heard. We can continue to be friends with the Venezuelan people of course without supporting Maduro and that is what we should do. One man alone does not speak for everyone or owns the rest of a country. No, I say long live Venezuela, down with Maduro! Our friendship with Venezuela is worth far, far more than just one man.

      • The Facts
        March 21, 2015

You can call them traitors. Traitors neglect friends who assisted them when they were in need. God punishes traitors as they deserve.
All you have to do is to look at a person’s face. You can easily tell who and what they are and what is imbedded in their hearts and minds.
I support the PM and will continue to do so. Those who do not, lack common sense and intelligence.

      March 19, 2015

I’m sorry but you know nothing of American politics, judging from your statement.
Secondly, you keep your mouth shut in matters that don’t concern you. Skerrit needs to understand that. It’s funny that he would make these statements against the US but it is the same US that he sent his son to be born. Something must be great about them to him. Why didn’t send his wife to Venezuela or Cuba to give birth to their son. Matter of fact, his beloved Dominica is not good enough for his wife to give birth????? Dominicans open your eyes.

Skerrit is not a good leader. No one on his team is. Secondly, I am not sure if Lennox is the best person on the UWP team to lead the country. There are two individuals who in my opinion would do better at this point. Just my two sense. Then again I don’t own a Dominican passport so who am I to talk about Dominican politics. Hence, who are you to talk about my president as a disappointment, a great majority of Americans like myself…

      • Calibishie Warrior
        March 19, 2015

Well, I am always open to an educative experience so what is it that I am missing about American politics? .. please enlighten me. You prohibit me from expressing dissappointment in Obama , a man whose actions afect my life directly whether or not I am an American .. and who has let down those of us that had invested vast amounts of progressive hopes in, and yet pronounce on Skerrit’s leadership when you do not hold a Dominican passport (confused). But to the main point… Were Skerrit to espose the kind of spinlessness that Linton recommends and not support Venezuela in its aversity, I might follow your example and not hold up my passport with pride. I think I perfer the alternative.

      • The Facts
        March 21, 2015

What you comment about is American politics? OMG too! You know nothing! the PM said that the US is unfair to sanction Venezuela. I could inform Obama about that to his face. I could get the general line of the White House and/or email address and inform him. I would tell him something more that as, when he sanctions a country, he also sanctions the little children and take food from their mouths.
Obama has two children whom he adores. He should remember that.
Those of you who support the US and Linton and hate the PM and Venezuela, one day it will return to you two-fold.
You better pray to God with a humble and contrite heart for when the wrath of God comes down on you and your environment, you will bawl and go down on your hands and knees. Will you be bypassed? Only God knows.
Always support your government and be obedient. God expects that of everyone with no exception. You err and will be punished in time, be it sooner than you expect, if you fail to do so.

Why does skerrit support corruption? Wasn’t he taught stealing is wrong as a child!

    • The Facts
      March 21, 2015

Why are you judging him? Do you not know that it is wrong? Need I inform you what Our Lord said about judging others? Surely, by now you should know.
A lot of you are committing grievous/mortal sins by judging him and others. Do you not fear that you will be severely punished?
I need not elaborate. Go to Holy Scriptures of the New Testament and read/study it. You are in dire need of the Word of God and to practice it.

    March 19, 2015

I strongly support UWP in this matter. I am not taking political sides neither am I supporting Obama USA over Venezuela, but I stand in defense of my country Dominica. I would not be surprised if there are more Dominicans residing in the USA than those that in Dominica. While I am thankful for the help we have received from Venezuela, I am even more grateful that there is a country called America, where every single household in Dominica benefits from in one way or the other. Not only that, but I cannot depend on Venezuela to defend us in anything. In fact this week we were warned about the possibility of a tsunami, & should it happen I can bet you not one of us will try to go to Venezuela. Furthermore, Obama made it clear that the innocent Venezuelans are excluded from this. So Skerrit needs to talk to those warned (I guess most of them are in photo with him), and tell them to correct their ways. He too better becareful because he will soon find out US don’t play with corrupt leaders

  60. Jam Rock
    March 19, 2015

The UWP needs to understand that not because Dominica receives aid from the USA or is greatly dependent of them, means that the PM or any group cannot express an opinion on the matter. Time after time the USA has made decisions towards a particular country and other member states head have expressed their opinion on the matter without fear of reprisal. Just consider the embargo on Cuba. For many years alot of countries have commented on the matter and their has been no reprisal…instead the US has listened and are now haviong talks with Cuba.

    • Go To Hell!!
      March 19, 2015

@jam rock, tell Skerrit to use the name of his party when he making those thoughtless statements of his. FYI, the USA Never issued any warning against any country and he sure did not issue one against Venezuela. The warning was against those that hinder the freedom of the people, against corrupt leaders who have placed the people of Venezuela in a situation where they cannot even get toilet paper while they have used the wealth of the country to enrich themselves and their partners in crime, and against those that are hiding monies in US banks. If Skerrit is not involved in any of the stated crimes then he just needs to shut his mouth! Maybe there might be something he too is trying to defend. Again, I say MAYBE

Freedom of what people? Obama is a very big offender of the people, their rights and religious ones. The man is a great disappointment.
God is displeased with him. As I have stated, I will comment on this another time. I have the information which I must look for in order to state it accurately.

    • Observer
      March 19, 2015

Even the UWP chastised the great US over Cuba. Infact it was the UWP under PM Edison James who ignored any fear of US sanctions against Dominica and established formal diplomatic relations with Cuba. Mr. James went on to refer to the US as an “economic terrorist”. There was fear about that move among some in Dominica, who were worried of a US backlash. The move proved very forward looking. Today the US is warming up to Cuba. Venezuela has its own domestic issues to deal with. During the last election campaign, the UWP poked its nose into Venezuela’s domestic affairs when the self acclaimed “novice leader” lambasted Venezuela for not having “toilet paper” whilst at the same time supporting corrupt government’s like the one in Dominica. We are not daff lennox. We can read too and some of us can speak proper English too.

      March 19, 2015

mr Skerrit can express any opinion freely as any other Dominican but he must understand that when he does so he is not necessarily speaking on my behalf for a start. That is where a lot of leaders go wrong I believe. They assume the right to act and speak on behalf of, others without consultation and if you object you may be called a traitor to your country and jailed, like in Venezuela, Cuba, N. Korea. I don’t want that for Dominica.

      • The Facts
        March 21, 2015

If he is not speaking on your behalf, why criticize him? You should not let that bother you.
He is the PM of Dominica and he had every right to speak and yes, on behalf of Dominicans who have been helped by Venezuela. Therefore, smarten up! You are too narrow-minded and lack comprehension.

  63. March 19, 2015

Well, I must say that I am favour with the DWP, lennox Linton comment for the first time. The prime minister should not get to involved with the happenings with both countries. Dominica has enough deal with at home. We all know that there is an interest with Dominica and Venezeula but the prime minister should take a back seat on this one.
