Despite the many allegations launched by anti-government forces within the last few months, Deputy Political Leader of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) Ambrose George has said that there has been an increase in support for the party in 2011.
A major achievement for the DLP for the year, according to him, is the “uninterrupted and committed” support which the party continues to receive from Dominicans here and abroad.
George, who spoke on Kairi FM’s Heng program this week, said that interaction with persons on the ground can prove this notion.
“We again continue to be probably the most structured organized political party in Dominica with none to compare and then that in itself has helped us to maintain our position as a party and to continue along with the government to deliver on the many promises that we have made to the people of Dominica,” he said.
He added, “So in 2011, definitely, we continued to see the overwhelming support of the people coming out of the 2009 general elections. I think if one should take a poll at this point in time we realize that certainly that support has increased. As to the numbers, we can’t really speak to that at this point in time but certainly based on the response if you go around the community, you go around the constituencies… you speak with people on the ground.”
Meanwhile Leader of the DLP Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said in October this year that the DLP had actually lost some of its key supporters over the years.
He told an awards ceremony at the Cabrits National Park that some of the DLP “brothers” had found themselves entrapped in the ‘language, innuendo and lies’ of those who do not wish his leadership well.
“Instead they proposed a strategy of moving towards with their eyes fixed on the past, rather than learning from it and moving ahead without violating the social democratic principles of the party. It seems a law of nature that there comes a time when even the best of friends must part; I wish them well, but the door is always open to their return,” Skerrit had stated.
Mr. George the results of the Jaimaican december 29,2011 election show a sweeping victory for the opposition (PNP) against the Jaiamica Labour Party. The issues that concerned the people were the economy, and corruption. Beware and take note.

I understand the rationale for it being that the DLP government is working hard and the signs are there for all to see.
But I do remember that in 2000 the UWP government was considered a hard working team.

This is the gospel truth, this “recycled freedom Party” seems to better shelter and address the needs of selfserving men and women of the then Freedom Party at the expense of BONAFIDE Labourites.
