      Me

      DLP stole –
Mahaut? Grandbay? Cottage? Salybia? Petite Savanne? Soufriere? Portsmouth? Viellle Case? Paix Bouche? Colihaut? and Roseau Valley? That’s eleven! Are you saying that the mighty UWP could have taken the other ten plus one of those I mentioned?

You all need to stop whipping up people’s emotions into a frenzy on misinformation and dissatisfaction with yourselves! Why isn’t Alvin Bernard in Roseau Central ranting and raving, seeing that the count was so close? Why isn’t Athenia Benjamin shouting about the people from the Diaspora who came in to vote for the UWP? Why is it that every decent person is congratulating Joshua Francis because of the work he did and his personality, rather than looking for some ulterior mechanism by which he won. Finally why is it that all the seats won by the UWP were achieved freely and fairly while those won by the DLP were stolen?

May God heal and look over us as a nation and protect our children from the daily display of national anger, hostility, hatred and envy at every turn.

Hon Blackmoore has only two persons to blame for this margin… himself and his supporters…. He allows himself to be persuaded and influenced by his supporters which allows him to treat others like they are not worth his time and effort…… I hope Hon Roosevelt skerrit would put some sense into this man and let him know that his attitude will take him nowhere and will only cause the DLP to lose votes….

I hope to see change from him in the next 5 especially for those villages in his constituency he pays no heed to.

The long and short of it is now obvious. “Empty vessels make the most noise” and my God didn’t this UWP make plenty of noise.
They were so triumphalist, that they took the Dominican electorate for granted thinking that victory was done, dusted and secured.
I am not hearing too much noise coming from the UWP supporters now. In fact they have gone so quiet that their silence is absolutely deafening.
Well they have five years ahead of them to go and put their tails between their legs and lick their sorry wounds and restore their battered egos.

Lennox Linton and the UWP ran a negative campaign from start to finish. Rather than concentrate on their policies and be relentless on their manifesto programme, instead they were pre-occupied in going on constantly about alleged corruption.
Also the UWP hierachy need to undertake a course of public relations to endear themselves to the public.
The Dominican electorate is way too clever to fall for negativity and hot air; and that is exactly what the UWP offered during the election campaign.

The plain facts are; the Labour party has been in government for 14 years and the country has spoken and has given Labour a clear and unequivocal mandate to govern for another five years.

If the country’s affairs was being managed so appallingly as everyone was being led to believe by the UWP, then surely they would have lost the election wouldn’t they????
Now Labour must be relentless in their efforts to continue driving the country forward over the next five years.

      Too Much Borbol

You couldn’t have said it better. The trips overseas to paint Dominica as the worst place on earth were particularly appalling. I don’t even want to remember the names that Dominican citizens were called during that process, then you come back to the same citizens and ask them for their votes as if they have no brain to analyse these things.

I can understand Dr. Thompson Fontaine’s desperate fight to grab that seat because from everything I hear that might just be his lifeline.

  15. December 9, 2014

WE have not lost anything. We voted for change in Senjo and Dominica in general. Did we get the change we had hoped for? The answer unfortunately is an unapologetic, NO. We, and I say, WE because Dominica did indeed vote for change. We shouldn’t be coy in saying that the the election was taken from us over a year ago. This election wasn’t taken on the 8th. of December, 2014. It was taken when operatives around the Caribbean, Britain, Canada and the United States were given the mandate to galvanize supporters of the Ruling Party living in the diaspora to make up their quota for every constituency in which they knew they were in trouble.

As a citizen from the St. Joseph constituency, I counted over five hundred new faces in the village. There were faces I had not seen in three decades and some of the older ones I did not know were probably the faces of those we thought must have died forty or fifty years ago which was still on the voters list. So, the question is: did the UWP candidate lose the contest in Senjo? You be the judge of that.

According to the official results, the UWP candidate, My Parliamentary Representative, only had a deficit of 268 votes compared to the other candidate who had a count of over one 100 of his relatives and 400 others who came from all over the globe to put him over the top. Walking through Mero I saw faces that I knew who were gone for over 20 years who were also recruited in New Jersey for that sole purpose.

The election should be contested on the ground in Dominica not on chartered flights from the US main land or on the ferry from Martinique or Guadeloupe or on Hummingbird Air nor Liat. Why after 36 years of independence for a supposedly democratic country should a political party which has been in control of the government for past 15 of those 36 years go to such length to deny me the change I believe was necessary in order for the country I love to move forward? After 15 years of control any party, or for that matter any government, which cannot go to the people and ask them for an extension to allow them to govern has already failed. Anyone, be it government or individual, who has to take extreme measures to maintain control should not be trusted with power.

However, to you my very talented and gifted PAL REP, don’t lose heart. You were denied the win this time but you day is coming. You are a formidable woman. You are young and you are admired by many. For the many years I have been alive you and your leader are the ones who inspired me to become an active participant in the electoral process.
So stay focus, tread carefully and avoid missteps and I can assure you that your future will be golden.

Remember, UWP TEAM DOMINICA did not lose. they were just denied the opportunity to govern this time around.

    • December 9, 2014

This long winded CHIM CHIM BWA SHESH assumption you have made with regards to your perceived reasons why the UWP lost the election.
Can I ask you?? Are you suggesting this level of malpractice that you have alleged took place in St. Joseph; Were these alleged malpractices prevailant at all the 15 constituencies where Labour have won???

And If dark forces of the government were so much at work as you have alleged; how come they fail to secure victory at 3 of the 4 Roseau constituencies.

You should look at your party’s shortcomings and their failure to connect with the electorate and stop looking for silly and ridiculous excuses.

You are a bad loser and your comments smacks of sour grapes and an insult to the majority of the electorate who voted for the party they felt was best suited to drive the country forward.

      • December 10, 2014

Boss Really…. Let not mix apple an oranges shall we.. Let us stick to the facts. What kind of dumb question is that “Were these alleged malpractices prevailant at the all the 15 Contituencies where labor won” ? Absolutely Yes.. They would have no effect in the labor strong holds , I am sure you know where they are, and they would have little or no effect in the UWP Strong holds.. In the areas where there had no effect these are the areas which is populated with middle class, and public servants .. they only work in the poor and vulnerable constituencies of Dominica. So please.. Stop defending and making baseless argument. You all know what wnet down…. Geeze!

If the UWP take a leaf from Joshua Francis book and behave as he did, a good man an honest man, a man who responds to people Joshua Francis and Joseph Isaac did the personal touch thing, people responded to them also Danny Lugay they won on the personal touch, so from now on the rest of the UWP team must develop that personal touch, with the electorate. Spraggs ,Joshua Isaac and Danny an Ezekiel Bazil won because they were loved by the people, Lennox won his seat because it wa a safe seat in Marigot. The UWP have to consider these factors when they next meet, Stop seeing the UWP as a Marigot party which need a marigot leader think Dominica, think who will the rest of Dominica respond to as leader. Lennox is not a peoples person and his concession speech was unstatesmanlike no thanks just more of the same whining in stead of recognizing how well they had done and the support of the people who voted for him. If all you want to be in power in 5yrs time change the leadership. Appoint someone that all of Dominica can relate too.

One thing that stood out was the margin of victory in the various constituencies. Of the 15 that DLP won, 13 were by 10% or more. Of the 6 that UWP won, 3 were by a margin of more than 10%. The others 3 were marginal.

UWP has made tremendous strides on a per sea basis, but there is a lot of work to be done. There is a lot of analysis to be done. I would not advise them to adopt the same strategy that they employed before – the long drawn out court challenges and boycotting parliament. I don’t think these were effective.

They need to start engaging the constituents from today. They need to start working on their team for the next election and get these people on the ground, building their names in the community. Getting involved and organizing all kinds of community events. They have to be recognized as representatives of the people.

Also although it may not come naturally to Lennox, he needs to consult an image consultant. This is not meant as a put down, but he needs to connect better with the people.

Like him or not, Skerrit has done a masterful job of that. He is the face of the party. People may not as much as vote their parl rep, but a lot sure did vote for “Skerrit”. He needs to present himself as a warmer person, someone that people can easily relate to.

When all is said and done, we are all Dominicans and we must all work for the betterments of our country.

The election was bought with money , materials and diaspora votes Lone day they will pay for it also those who encourage such behaviour.I am listening and praying.Loreen brought in over a hundred plus diaspora voters people i never saw for over thirty years just to secure her job, God is good all the time.

Wow…Election was closer than what many people expected. I think if it was called next year Labour would have lost more seats. I think the diaspora vote made a difference in Morne jaune for sure but I always maintain I see nothing wrong in Dominicans coming down to vote. It is their right. Americans can vote from anywhere in the world so why not us.

And its not like Workers did not have overseas voters as well, maybe not as much but its the same thing. Lennox need to give the people some credit, we are not a foolish people. I don’t think the bribery labour tried worked..Dominican not fooled by two sheets of plywood again or 5 bags of cement. A lot of the older people still stick to their labour but the younger generation know better. I believe if workers had revved up their campaigning from long time, it would’ve worked in their favor.

Labour got a wake up call for sure, now lets see how they respond for the next five years.

The election is over and now we can look back on the result . We can see how close the votes were, which leaves us to believe that the people that actually live in the country wanted change. Why did those who live out of Dominica had to put the government back in power and return to their safe haven? That is because they really dont care about the people and what they are going through. Just look at how close the votes were, it is clear that The party won because of the extra votes that came in from outside and not because the residents wanted them. The people were cryiny out for change but they were denied and thats very sad.

      December 9, 2014

You must be kidding. I looked at the numbers and you cannot blame the diaspora given the margin of victory in some of those constituencies. Here are some of the figures for 10 constituencies where DLP won by huge margins:

      Cottage – 83% to 15%
      Colihaut – 76% to 24%
      Ville Case – 85% to 15%
Mahaut – 55% to 45% (Blackmore won by 397 votes)
      Paix Bouche – 80% to 20%
      Salibia – 61% to 39%
      Grandbay – 80% to 20%
      Petite Savanne – 70% to 30%
      Soufriere – 62% to 38%
      Portsmouth 80% to 20%

You cannot attribute those margins to diaspora votes.

Skerrit ought not to have brought anybody down, but the UWP would be foolish to focus their attention on the diaspora. That is not where the fight is.

The colihaut and salybia had diaspora and intense bribes, the worst in History. 32 million in dispatched in various ways. That can sway most people. That’s why proplr go into drugs, the money is exciting!

      • December 9, 2014

Thor, you got the percentages right but there is one thing you fail to recognize. UWP only need 11 seats to form the government. The very eleven seats that you excluded are the seats where all the diaspora votes were planted and these were the constituencies that the Labour Party new they were losing.

        December 9, 2014

Thor…… I like you analysis thus far but let it be comprehensive.

What are the margins for on the Laplaine, Morne Jaune, St. Joseph and Roseau Valley? These seat were all tip by the Diaspora votes therefore you need to keep the influence of the Diaspora…..because we are talking about 19% on the constitutional seats going to DLP were clearly due to he Diaspora vote.

19% constitutional seats swing by the diaspora is a high percentage when it comes to voting.

Add Castle Bruce to, the amount of voters increase by only 32 since the time loreen bannis of the UWP was elected in 2005.

over 400 people were imported Friday. Saturday Sunday and even Monday had more importees. You can immage what a difference over one 1507 people could make.

      Grell

That would still give the DLP 12 seats. What’s your point?

    Congratulations all!

Seems to me that except for Grand Fond, all the wins whether Labour or UWP were emphatic. Special congrats to Joshua Francis, seems a really nice young man and people responded to him.

The wins were so emphatic that those who are insisting that it was the diaspora votes that made the difference would have to explain how so many people got to come from overseas in spite of the intimidation and threats. I hope that the logic applied to the Labour wins is not also applied to those of the UWP. The wins were doubled in favour of UWP this time around on the same voters’ list and same conditions at the polling stations as applied to the labour party!

Guys, time to move on! Country time now! Continuing the accusations and hate talk won’t change a thing except the warm and loving relationships for which Dominica has been well known.

    Peace!
