i am concerned that up to this point in time i am yet to hear any one from the government but more so the Prime Minister of the country, congratulate the Carib Chief elect, i am of the opinion that the government is to lead and to demonstrate the qualities of leadership, although they may have done so internally, but as government of the people i would prefer hearing it openly so as to demonstrate that is the government of the people.

congratulations to mr williams.of all the 4 candidates you were the best man.
i for one did not show up to vote because i did not find for myself that there was any suitable candidate to represent me.however of all the candidates that were contesting you were the best man.
you were carib chief before and i did not approve of the things that you did personally which is why i could not see myself voting for you. with that said all the best and hope you have a better more productive term this time around.
p.s leave politics out of kalinago chief/people business.

Mr. WIliams’ election is very telling.

In spite of his success at grabbing attention his reign was pockmarked by irrational outbursts; inflammatory and racist statements, (as you can see, he has already resumed), bullying of his co-councillors, and megalomania. It is no surprise that there were more votes against him in this election than there were for him.

This guy is more likely to do more harm to advancing the Kalinagos’ ethnocentric agenda than good because no one outside the Territory wants to work with him.

Clearly Mr Charles Williams is not a popular chief. He won by just about 40% of the votes cast while 60% voted against him.

The Law should call for a run off election in such a situation.

Man you are obviously not a mathematician! First of all there were 4 candidates not 2 so your assesmentvis totally off!How do you arrive at saying they voted against Him?There is no way to ascertain that, the vote was for a particular candidate not against, the voters chose their candidate and overall Mr. Williams was the favorite because he got the most votes.

Then I guess the world would have to change history on your behalf seeing that this has always been the way of a democratic country.

At the end of the day Mr. Williams has won fair and square. The faster you realize that and accept that the better it will be for you. Happy or not we are moving forward in a new and better direction. You can either be a part of it or get left behind. We the Kalinago people have chosen Mr. Williams as our Chief and we will stand by him.

Every Carib chief must work hand in hand with the Government. He must remember that the same persons that support DLP are those who put him as chief. If he is a smart chief and want to remain in power for many terms, he should work in the best interest of the Kalinago people, and learn to collaborate with the government at the same time.

    • Proud Kalinago
      July 8, 2014

You only now ask that question out of nothing else but your biasness. The former Chief Mr. Garnet Joseph was also a former yet he was allowed. Mr. Auguiste is also a former chief and was allowed to run several times.
Mr. Williams has won fair and square. It could have been by one vote but he did. If you people would look at the bigger picture and take your heads out of your asses you would realize Mr. Williams is the best representative for the Kalinago people. No other Kalinago person knows our history as well as Mr. Williams and can understand the laws and constitution and who can represent us locally, regionally and Internationally.

Jah4all……….I quote this nonsense you wrote:
“……………….Kalinagoes should know that Skerrit is the one paying the Chief, the councillors and sustaining the Kalinago Council………..”
Jah4all……… you are wrong, very wrong and it appears that you are ignorant to the fact as to how government functions in connection with local authorities…which the Carib council is among the other 40 Authorities in Dominica.
For your information, We, You and I, are the ones through our taxes who pay all civil servants, Local authorities AND NOT Skerrit. By the way, WE pay Skerrit`s salary.
Skerrit CANNOT stop money going into the Carib Council accounts……..NO wonder Skerrit gets away with bad government administration, because some of his supporters have no idea of what governance is and as a result our resources are being abused by this leader and his government and some of his followers remain ignorant.

    July 8, 2014

DNO I want to provide some points to consider.

While in first past the post system the winner takes it all and that is our election laws it is my view that in such case the election does not represent the will of the people.

Charles Williams received 311 votes in a four way race all the combined votes against him is 466 this means more people voted against him than for him. In such a situation he does not represent the will of the majority of the people.

In such a situation I believe that their should be a run off election between the two top candidate so that a clear winner can immerge voted by the majority of the people.

I congratulate Mr Williams he has won by the law as he is the single person who received more votes. Lets hope that his reign will be less controversial than the last time he served.

Well it is people like you who do not care about the well being of the indigenous people, you are a very selfish individual, and cares about yourself only, that is why you did not even have a chance to visit the electorate as Mr Williams did, that has always been your interpretation of the outcome of the votes, but you should have tried like the last time and you would be very surprised, like it or not you gone a put it in your pipe and smoke it.

Just for your knowledge, please note that the indigenous kalinago people are the first people living in the entire eastern Caribbean for over 5 thousand years; in the last 5 hundred years the Europeans came and brought with them the African slaves of the eastern Caribbean who forms the majority of the Caribbean population today; slavery lasted just over two hundred years and when it was abolished their European masters left them on the lands of the indigenous people with all the resources, surface and sub surface, the political power, the military power, the economic power and a functioning judiciary. We are pushed in a small corner on the north east coast where we have to fight each other for a little piece of land while the head of state enjoys $30,000.00 a month the entire territory gets from central just a little;e over $4000.00 monthly, can any one tell me how much was paid for the liberty of occupying 98.5% of my country and now who pays who Mr. Jah4all.

I see no sense in having Charles in the position of Kalinago Chief again. He claimed boldly that he is the only one to stand up to Skerrit and people voted him on that basis? Strangle.
Kalinagoes should know that Skerrit is the one paying the Chief, the councilors and sustaining the Kalinago Council. You think when he came to beg you to put him as chief that he would do anything different than to say thank you to Skerrit for the monthly salary?
